Bruce Wayne: A large mostly-blue but kind of trippy overall circle erupts forth in the open air near you and your associates. Out of it step a man, who you recognize as Professor Windsor (an expert in the field of thaumaturgy and materials), and a wood elemental cohort of his who was probably the cause of the portal spell charm before you. After the two exit the portal, it closes behind them, and the music ends abruptly. "I apologize for my lateness," says Professor Windsor, joining the group of prestigious folk around you. "I came as fast as possible - this is a student of mine, Thicket, who will be accompanying me here and back." The wood elemental at this point bows lightly and takes a step back from the main circle so as not to intrude heavily. Or, something resembling a step, as you notice that he or she possesses a snake-like lower body-half in place of legs, but is otherwise very humanoid for an elemental. You stop your examination to pay attention to the circle of executives, mostly other businessmen such as yourself, along with their associates such as the (also present) Alfred. One man in a mask and robe begins to talk, you know him as the Emissary of Nexus, one of the most (if not the single most) mysterious figure(s) in all of Creation and head of the economic bastion of Nexus. "I think it's fairly clear why we've all assembled here," states the Emissary, making a minor motion towards the massive expanse of salt-desert that lies before you. A recent result of the so called 'saltsplosion' that occured approximately an hour ago. The Emissary continues, "This recent change in the amount of salt readily available is sure to impact our economy. As such, we've brought the top business associates of our city here for this discussion. But first and foremost, I want this change in the environment examined, and the cause determined - no doubt the Scarlet Empire1 will arrive shortly with questions and arms." At this point, Professor Windsor, who had not been part of the circle for the initial discussion, stepped back into the centre of things having examined the salt with several tools and chemicals. While he and his wood elemental assistant stirred and shook things, he began his discussion of the material. "This isn't pure salt, although it looks like it and possesses most of salts qualities. It isn't breaking down further in the presence of water or other solutions - it's housing some internal source of essence that keeps it from being destroyed. Really, it seems more like sand than anything else at the smallest level. I'll have to run tests with more volatile acids, like Vitriol, but those will have to wait until I return to my lab. Salt is the bane of the undead, ghosts and the like cannot cross a line of salt. If there were any ghosts in the area, which is likely, they would be trapped on location and may have some idea of what caused this." There were no immediate volunteers to investigate, after all, it was a circle of the wealthiest in eastern creation. You thought this as a good time to propose yourself for the position, as you're notably more physically capable then most of the others here. As you volunteer to go ghost-negotiating, Alfred speaks to you, and Professor Windsor follows it up. "Master Bruce, I'll manage the negotiations while you're away." "You seem like the most able-bodied of the people here, but it's dangerous to go alone. Take Thicket with you, he should be able to serve as a functional guide, and can use the portal charm to bring you back when you've finished." Pistachio Disguisey: Andreas part 1 goes here |
