"Anywhere around here that's rumored to be haunted, or cursed?" he asked. "I've always found my favorite part of small towns are the local urban legends and hidden histories." |

Makayla's eyebrows went up and immediately thought of the church the girls in the bar protected. Mortals didn't go near it often, and the Latina gave a light shrug. "An old church in town here. It's not used anymore, and the residences claim it's haunted by the souls in the graveyard. Even though people are still buried there, it's the only graveyard in town, but people always have a tendency to claim graveyards are haunted." |

"Hmmm, graveyard by a church," Ben mused. "There's also Heartbeat Bridge, the Mako Light, and the Deep Woods inside of Fox Swamp," one of the busboys added before sheepishly leaving the area. Ben arched an eyebrow at that. "Now see, this town sounds like fun. I'm going to have to take a look around now. One other thing, is gambling legal here?" |

Makayla smirked at the busboy and shook her head. "And the green fire on the ocean..." she lended in on his list before Ben spoke again and she laughed. "Not so much. Not that they'd open a casino here. I mean I'm sure private poker parties happen, but nothing big." |

A grin spread over Ben's face. "Hmm, I need to find a good poker game then," he replied, taking another sip. "You ever seen anything?" |

Makayla nodded and took another shot, taking her time biting into the lime wedge. Warmth spread through her body, finally after five shots starting to feel the alcohol start to relax her a bit. "The green flames. Some people dismiss it, telling me that it was a driftwood fire on the beach, but I know what I saw." Not to mention she'd seen it the night Dana had come into her abilities. She was a protector, and that's when the flames showed. But that was something she was keeping to herself. |

Benjamin nodded, offering her a smile as he too polished off yet another glass. He was feeling the effects as well, and a healthy buzz worked its way into the back of his brain. He thought for a moment, then spoke. "Where would you suggest I start if I'm looking for my best chance at actually seeing something happen? It's kind of a hobby of mine to document the stuff I encounter firsthand." |

Makayla shrugged lightly and ate another lime. "Graveyard more like. Any if them really. So is that what you do with your nomad life? Find old haunted places and try to experience what the locals have?" |

Owen pulled his truck to a stop outside his parents' home on Stock Rd. They had known about the precious cargo in the back and her relationship to him, but had said nothing for three days. He knew that couldn't have been easy, but he was happy to have met with Cass without knowing. It meant she never had to wonder if he was with her out of parental obligation or because he still truly loved her. Cass would always know it was the latter. He shut off the engine and opened the door to let Melinda out, smirking at the girl as she looked up at him. "Be good for Mormor and Grandpa, and I'll make you something from whatever I hunt," he said, placing a hand atop her head. ~*~ Ben shrugged. "I play cards, dice, any game of chance I can find really. I'm quite good at them. It more than pays for the lifestyle, and when I'm not at a table... well I've always been a bit of a ghost hunter, you could say. But there's a lot more out there too, and I like to see if I can find proof. Not that anyone would ever believe me if I had, but that part doesn't matter so much. What about you? Besides hustling dates at the pool table, what do you do with your... non-nomad life?" |

Melinda threw her arms around Owen and grinned up at him. "Thank you Daddy!" Anygift from her dad was a good gift, even if she didn't completely understand what it was he was hunting. Cassandra grinned as she climbed out of the truck and then turned her attention to Owen.. "Age appropriate of course..." She cautioned, though she knew she didn't need to. Owen had taken to being Melinda's father like a fish to water, and she was impressed every day with how they interacted together. ----------------------- Makayla couldn't exactly tell him she hunted things that went bump in the night. "My non-nomad life is boring. I go to the Inn, I cook from sun up to sun down, come here some nights to wind down, and binge on Netflix. Nothing exciting really." |

Owen couldn't help but smirk at Cassandra's little stipulation to his proposal, and gave her a nod. "Of course age appropriate," he replied. The front door opening to reveal his parents promptly ended that discussion. He watched as his daughter ran up to them for hugs, casting a glance towards his beloved. "You want to come in for breakfast?" Dan called to them. "No thanks, Dad!" Owen replied. "We've gotta hit the road. We'll be back on Friday!" "Be careful!" Paige called back. "Always!" With that Owen climbed back into the truck, and within a few moments they were back on the road. "Sure is going to be nice having someone to help warm the bed at night," he said, looking over at Cass with a wink. The trip was a relatively quiet one as Owen sipped his coffee until they reached the parking area. He pulled to a stop in one of the spots for vehicles with trailers and shut off the engine. It only took him a moment to hop out and extract King from the bright red two-horse trailer, and a few minutes later had the chestnut walker saddled up and ready. Owen had even been thoughtful enough to add a second seat to his tack, allowing Cass some comfort while she rode behind him. He locked up the trailer, mounted King, and took hold of the reins before reaching down to clasp forearms with his beloved and effortlessly draw her up onto the horse behind him. Owen smirked, giving her a kiss on the cheek before clicking his tongue to start them walking down the trail. Their vehicle soon disappeared out of view behind them, leaving them alone in the woods. The ride took the better part of three hours, but that was mostly due to Owen taking it easy and walking the trail most of the way. However, on long straights with clear sight he would bring his steed into a canter to cover more ground. The longest part was the trek uphill to the campsite itself, which Owen always approached from the back. Nature's symphony accompanied them wherever they went, serenading the pair with the notes of songbirds and other wildlife. As they rounded a bend the path became much narrower, and the Necromage slowed his horse to a gentle walk as he guided him to a more open landing where the paths branched. From here he dismounted, helping Cass down as well before tying the reins to a rock a safe distance from the edge. The campsite was nestled in the cliffside overlooking the entire Sunset Valley below. A solid rock overhang kept out the weather overhead while still providing an incredible view, and steel bars supporting thick, heavy curtains had been bored into the wall for colder weather. It was lavish by camping standards, with smooth floors and a large, comfortable looking bed nestled against the furthest wall. Maps, bulletins, and other notices adorned the walls almost like a guild hall. However, none were present save Owen and Cass, and it was intended that way by the Consilium. The previous Boundary Warden had left at sunrise, leaving only the gap till Owen's arrival in the early morning between shifts. It was the responsibility of the hunters to manage the information the Consilium wanted posted on the walls, as well as adding their own notes for forecasting what the next shift might encounter. Owen deposited his things in one of the large chests along the wall near the workbench, holding it open and encouraging Cass to do the same. "This one's mine, and I travel lighter than most so there's more than enough room to share it." Once she had done so, Owen relocked the chest and conjured a second key for her. "Just don't lose this and you can get into our things without needing me," he said with a smirk. The smooth stone floor was quieted by the large rugs covering it, and Owen's boots made no sound as he gave her a small tour. Bathroom facilities were through a portal disguised as a door that led into a cozy one-room pocket realm bathroom with full facilities that cleaned itself after every use. He warned her not to stick her hand in the commode, however, given that it led directly into the vaccum of space somewhere near the sun. He led Cass back to King, guiding the chestnut trail horse up the hill to the landing atop the camp's rock roof. A small grazing corral took up most of the surface area that wasn't stone, and it was here where Owen removed his horse's tack and set him loose for the time being. A nearby waterfall fed into a large, crystal clear pool that stretched to the edge of the cliff face, depositing a much larger flow into the creek that bubbled through the valley. The Necromage turned to face his beloved with a smile. "My own little slice of paradise three days a week," he stated with arms spread in a grand gesture. ~*~ "Netflix and chill doesn't sound so boring. I'm sure I have a lot of catching up to do," Ben said. "What sort of shows are you into?" |

Cassandra smirked back over at him and reached out to take hold of his hand as he drove. She crossed one leg over the other and tilted her body toward him in the truck and watched out the window as he drove, occasionally looking at him. Staring at him really, she was still amazed that he was back, and even though she knew he wasn't entirely whole, he was getting there. Their time together in the bedroom was proving he was becoming more and more like his old self, and the witch couldn't be happier to see those walls he had built up around himself starting to crumble. She was impressed by the scenery, even before he'd swung her up onto King behind his back. Though once he did, she wrapped her arms around his waist and held onto him as he directed the horse to where they needed to be for the next three days. Though the ride was long, Cassandra didn't say much to him on the ride, instead she soaked up the beauty around her in awed silence. She would point out rabbits along the path as she saw them, loving their adorable tininess. She stretched once Owen helped her down from the horse, rubbing her rear a little as she pushed her hips side to side, smirking sheepishly up at him. She wasn't used to riding at all, she'd ridden with him while in high school, but admittedly she hadn't been on a horse since then. She simply couldn't bring herself to do more than coo at the horses as she would bring Melinda to see her grandparents. Her breath caught in her throat as they arrived at the campsite, and he barely took her attention away from it as he pressed the key to the chest into her palm, smiling up at him and she turned back to him from her place near the edge of the cliff and stepped away from it toward him. "How do you come home when such beauty is available to you so often?" she wondered but knew the answer he would give. She smirked and put her finger to his lips to quiet his response and shook her head. "I think I know how... but I won't deny that this place is beautiful. I can't imagine how you tear yourself from it." |

Owen couldn't help but smile at his beloved's question, and though he knew it was almost completely rhetorical. Still, he stepped closer to her and put his arms around her waist as he gazed into her eyes. The Necromage leaned in to place a soft kiss to her lips. "Because you are far more beautiful than this place ever could be," he replied. "You'll have a couple of hours to get settled in while I'm out scouting. Don't stray too far from camp today. Tomorrow you're more than welcome to come gathering with me, but until I know what might be out there I can't risk you being out there." |

Cassandra smiled and wound her arms around his neck, pressing back into the kiss as she leaned up on the tips of her toes. She tilted his head at his last statement and shook her head. "I'm more capable than you may believe, Owen. There's a reason you allowed me to come on this trip with you. You just haven't seen my abilities in action..." |

Owen arched an eyebrow at her, but didn't argue. "Oh don't think for a second that I doubt your ability to take care of yourself, sweetheart," he replied. "It's not about that. I need to be sure the idiot before me didn't give bad intel before I let some Garritrice try to sink its talons into you. No matter how good you are, going out there without a good sense of what you're up against is a bad idea. If anything, I'm less concerned about something nasty being out there now that I have you watching my back. Just let me do this part of my job before we put you in harm's way?" |
