The Necromage nodded, and regretted it as the headache fought against the painkillers. He was thankful he had eaten something as Cass followed him up the stairs. One hand instinctively went to his brow, while the other slid along the banister as each step sent a pulse through his temples. He kept his breathing even so as not to alarm the woman behind him, but knowing what she'd seen Owen didn't think there was anything to really hide. It just wasn't in him to ever let on how bad anything really was.

"I need to call Caleb, see about getting the guys together this week," he said as they entered the bedroom, hoping he could deflect her attention somewhat. "I haven't heard ol'e Munson's voice in a dog's age."

Cassandra smiled and moved past him, taking his hand to guide him to the bed. "And you will after you've rested. I know that Caleb misses hanging out with you too." She gently pushed on him to get him to sit on the edge of the mattress and leaned in to kiss his forehead softly. "Just rest, baby. Melinda and I will be here when you wake up."

Owen's eyelids were already heavy by the time Cass moved to kiss him on the forehead. He couldn't help but smile at little and reached up with one hand to cradle her jaw and bring her in for another. His lips moved hungrily and longingly against hers, those three days having felt longer than the preceding ten years. Owen ached for her, and hated how his body currently betrayed him in its frailty.

After a moment he pulled back with a satisfied sigh to look into her emerald gaze once more. "Before I do... would you mind starting up a shower for me? I'll... make it there by the time you're done."

Ben Valentine did not leave anything to chance. He never had to, being a Threadmage of some aptitude. However, as brash and confident as he was, the mage knew the dangers of hubris. Everything was carefully laid out, tactically and strategically before any action was taken. Ben gave himself the best possible odds, and unlike many young mages understood the rippling effects of manipulating secondary patterns and threads within the Tapestry.

While positioning was important whether physical or metaphysical, timing was everything. Good timing could provide enough margin for error to mean the difference between life and death, and Ben was very interested in staying alive. It was then, at great annoyance and horrific realization of his own fallible nature that Ben found himself in great peril as he entered the sleepy town of Duskmarsh.

It wasn't directly on his heels, at least not yet. However, as he pulled his electric blue 1967 Shelby GT 500 into the parking lot of the Butterfly Inn, the Threadmage cursed his choice in easily recognizable color. Being a mage, however, meant he was never without resources. After shutting off the engine and climbing out, Ben cast a covert matter spell to alter the color of the vehicle to a plain white. He hated seeing the black racing stripes vanish, but it was worth it to make him a little harder to find.

He opened the door to the Inn, and immediately noticed the chesty brunette behind the counter. Ben dusted off his leather flight jacket and quickly removed it within the much warmer confines of the lobby. His vision of the Tapestry showed him that this was no ordinary motel, and that he would be safe here at least for a short time. Ben approached the front desk, but as he stepped up to it a familiar aroma reached his nostrils.

Fried chicken. Ben's stomach growled quietly. He hadn't eaten in days. It hadn't been a concern. Now, however, he was almost painfully reminded of his mortal needs. He was reminded in a different fashion as Miranda straightened and he caught a good glance at her cleavage. Not wanting to come off as a creep, he quickly lifted his gaze to her face as she turned hers fully on him.

"How much for a room... and two big breasts?" he asked, the smell of the food getting the better of his logical brain. "Chicken... breasts..." he clarified a moment later. "That smells delicious."

Cassandra tilted her head just a little in a silent question when he slid his hand along her jaw line, and smiled briefly before meeting his kiss with equal passion. She moaned softly against his mouth, sighing and following after him slightly as he broke away. She licked her bottom lip as if she could still taste him on her lips as he spoke and nodded. "Of course I can."

She turned and moved across the hall to the bathroom, flipping the water on with a quick twist of her fingertips. She glanced over her shoulder to make certain a clean towel was over the bar for him to use, nodded in satisfaction that there was, then held her hand under the spout to check the temperature before pulling the knob to switch it to the shower head.

-----------------------------

Miranda heard the car pull in to the parking lot and set her phone down where she'd been typing a text and erasing it over and over again addressed to Njord before said owner of the car came into the lobby. She sat back in the chair slightly as he approached, and pulled up the proper program on the computer before glancing at him.

He was staring at her cleavage and she couldn't help the smirk she gave as he met her eyes. "How can I help you?"

And then came her answer which made her arch an eyebrow at first, then laugh softly. "Sixty for the room, dinner's included. I'll just have to let our chef know to expect another tray. Just need a name." Miranda's hair swung slightly behind her head from the high ponytail it was confined in as she spoke, the single triquetra earrings that dangled from her earlobes swung almost in time with her hair as she tilted her head and looked from the keyboard to his face.

As promised, Owen arrived in the bathroom about the time Cassandra switched the water over to the shower. He still wore his jeans, but everything else had been left in the bedroom. The shower looked quite inviting, and his body showed the physical evidence of his tussle with the beast.

Thanks, darlin. "If our daughter doesn't need anything... would you be opposed to doing this for me? I feel like it's asking a lot, but... I could use the help."

He hated asking. It was just who Owen was. He was proud, independent, and incredibly tough. Often he claimed to have "taken a few levels in badass", but Cass... she wanted him to let her know when he wasn't at his best. She wanted him to ask her for help when he needed it, or so he hoped.

~*~

"Sixty, right," he replied, digging into his pocket. "After a few moments and a deft Matter spell, the Threadmage produced a small handful of silver coins. "Value in US print is one dollar, but each of these is pure silver and worth twenty six dollars at the current price. Please, check it on your phone. I'll give you nine plus one extra for three days and call the change even on two conditions: You forget the name, and I can get extra mashed potatoes and gravy... Are there any greens? Turnip? Collard?"

Cassandra smiled and nodded. "Give me two minutes," she wrapped her arm around him a little as she passed him, padding down the stairs to see Melinda invested in a science documentary on the TV, then hurried back to the bathroom to help Owen step into the shower.

Without any ceremony in stripping, Cassandra discarded her clothing onto the floor and stepped in behind her lover. She couldn't help admiring how his body had changed over the years, strong, muscular, even with it's blemishes it was still the most beautiful body she'd ever seen. She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed a kiss to his back before she helped to guide the water over his chest.

-----------------------------

Miranda laughed shortly and shook her head. "The owner will kill me if I screw this up." She looked back and forth between the fields on the computer that needed filled in and the handsome man in front of her. "Any name. and the extra food can be arranged without extra compensation. Makayla normally cooks more than enough anyway." she held her hand out and waited for him to drop the coins into her hand. She glanced over them thoughtfully and focused her ability on them, she knew silver when she felt it, such as the necklace draped around her neck, pendant and chain were pure silver. She nodded and dropped the coins into the register drawer, and glanced back up at him expectantly. No, she wasn't letting him get away from the front desk without giving her a name, any name.

Owen smiled appreciatively and gave Cassandra a peck on the cheek as she moved past him to check on Melinda. When he felt her enter the shower behind him, Owen felt a little apprehensive that it was his back facing her. He also realized she was likely completely nude in his presence for the first time in ten years. Owen had no intentions of trying to take advantage, but was a little regretful that it wasn't in a more romantic setting.

Just as his anxiety started to get the better of him, Owen felt Cassandra's kiss against his back and her hands moving the water over his chest. He hadn't realized just how tense he was until he relaxed beneath her touch. Slowly he turned, but kept his gaze to hers for the brief moment that he kept his eyes open. Resting a forearm upon the shower wall, Owen braced himself as the world spun again and tried to focus on the feeling of the hot water and his lover's hands.

"I'm glad you're here," he whispered.

~*~

"Roy Quigley," Ben replied with a sigh. "Keep the extra as credit. I might remember the name. If her cooking tastes half as good as it smells I'll remember Makayla's, though. What's yours?"

Cassandra smiled up at Owen and wrapped her arms around his waist. She held onto him as he spoke and pressed another kiss to his sternum. "I'll always be here." she whispered back and ran her hands over his back. "I love you, Owen." Carefully she guided his head back to wet his hair, her fingers moving through his hair to help wet the strands.

-------------------

Miranda smirked as she put the name into the computer and assigned him a room. "Name's Miranda," she said as she reached back to grab a room key and then held it out for him. "Top of the stairs, straight ahead."

The witch gave him a smile before slipping out from behind the desk and moving to the door to the kitchen to call out. "Makayla. New guest, he wants a couple of big breasts!"

Makayla's voice filtered out of the semi-open door as she responded. "Why don't you offer him yours? You've got big enough ones!"

"Bitch!"

"Slut," came Makayla's laughed response.

Owen sighed as he felt Cassandra against him, her kiss against his chest and hands over his back bringing the world to a standstill once more. He let her wet his hair, leaning forward to press a tender kiss against her forehead before she could pull away to get the shampoo. Her words choked him a little, but he was thankful for the shower hiding any tears that might escape.

"Can you... turn the lights down from here?" he whispered. "Might help with the headache some..."

Once Cass had done so, Owen sank into her, becoming almost oblivious to what she was doing as she washed him. She felt so good against him, and he slipped his arms around her waist to hold her as she washed him. His hands moved over Cassandra's back, gently tracing her flesh with his fingertips in noncommittal patterns over her skin. When she had finished with his hair, Owen finally pulled back to look at her in the dim light.

"Always wanted to do this when we were teenagers and never got the chance," he said with a small chuckle, unable to keep his gaze from raking over her.

~*~

Ben accepted the key and nodded. "Thanks." He listened to the exchange between the two women with an amused smirk, looking at Miranda when she popped back in. "You have very nice breasts. If I'd known they were on the menu I would've ordered differently..." Ben offered the woman a grin and a wink before finding a seat in the dining room. From the sounds of it he might have a chance to bring her into his room that night, but Ben was far too concerned with other matters to relax enough for that at the moment.

Cassandra smiled up at him and lathered the shampoo through his hair, her fingertips massaging his scalp as she worked it into a thick white lather. She threaded her fingers through his wet strands allowing the soap to trail down the middle of his back as she did so.

At his words, she focused on the wattage of the bulbs, toning it down as she trailed her thumbs over his temples. She returned to what she was doing with his hair, focusing on the base of his neck before he spoke again. His touch on her back felt heavenly, and she was able to forget that their naked bodies were pressed together under the warm spray. For a moment it was simply she and Owen, as if it were always this way and always would be.

A blush spread over her cheeks as he did speak and she looked up at him in time to catch his gaze moving back up her body. "I was different back then, as I'm sure you remember. Things have changed for both of us, and yet... we still..." she pressed herself tightly against him, letting her body sway just a little against his. "Fit together rather perfectly, don't we?"

----------------

Miranda laughed nervously as Ben spoke about her breasts and stuck her tongue out playfully. "Maybe if you ask nicely..." she said, throwing a wink before settling back behind the front desk.

Cassandra's touch against his temples and the base of Owen's neck made it difficult for him to focus on anything other than her fingertips. He rewarded her efforts with a soft, whimpering groan of appreciation. When she met his gaze, the mage took a deep breath and did his best not to get completely lost in her emerald eyes.

"You've grown even more beautiful with time," he whispered in reply, trying his best not to notice just how her slender form did fit against his. Every curve of her body seemed to mold to him, and despite his headache Owen could not help his body's reaction to her. As Cass swayed gently against him, his desire became trapped between their bodies, and a sudden very real fear overcame him.

"Cass..." he exhaled on a whisper, doing his best to keep the waver from his voice. "Yes... we do..."

~*~

Ben waited patiently at the table until the fried chicken made its way into the room. The powerful aroma of perfectly cooked poultry reached his nostrils, and he couldn't help the way his insides complained that he hadn't already started consuming it. The goddess that brought it forth was truly the most beautiful creature Benjamin had ever seen, and immediately all thoughts of the woman behind the front desk left his mind.

"That smells delicious," he stated, taking a sip from his tea. "You must be Makayla. You can call me Roy." He offered her a smile. "I don't fancy eating this meal alone. If no other guests are having dinner in here, would you like to join me?"

Cassandra smiled up at him, shaking her head slightly at him with a knowing look in her eyes. She could sense the fear clouding his mind, and sought to ease it as quickly as it had appeared. "We were made for each other, Owen. It's why despite everything that you've been through, you're here. You're with me, and our daughter."

As she spoke she moved her hands over his lower back as she wrapped her arms around him. Compassion shone in her gaze as she reached out to gather the pouf he'd been using, and one handed pumped body wash onto it before starting to wash his body of his travels and duty. She moved the soap over his skin gently, not letting her gaze wander from his for long. wanting to show him he had nothing to fear from her rather than simply telling him.

She knew that taking that step that had created the wonderful being that sat in the living room was not something he was ready for, and it was not something Cassandra would ever, ever force upon him. She almost regretted calling his attention to the way their bodies fit together, but there was a point to it. To show him that there were ways of being intimate without sexual contact. There were ways he had shown her that when they were in high school, and she simply sought to repay everything he'd done for her.

----------------------

Makayla smirked as she set the plate down in front of him and shrugged lightly. "Beats eating in the kitchen... Roy." she took note of the tea in his glass and made certain he wouldn't need a refill before going back into the kitchen to fix herself a plate, leaving the trays for Miranda to deliver to the rooms as she fixed a plate for herself. She then joined the guest at the table, sitting across from him with her plate and a soda.

She fixed her gaze on him and smirked as she played slightly with the bone of the drumstick she'd taken. She didn't believe for one second that Roy was really the handsome man's name, and pondered whether to call him on his bullshit right then and there or let him continue with the charade a bit longer. "What brings you to Duskmarsh... Roy?"

She knew the tone in which she said the name gave away that she didn't believe it to truly be his name...

Did she care?

Not one bit.

Owen sighed softly as Cassandra embraced him, shivering a little despite the hot water raining down upon them. He stepped out of the spray as she began to wash his body, but kept his hands on her waist. She alleviated his anxiety a good deal, but Owen couldn't help but feel he was letting her down. He wanted her in every way possible, and his body betrayed his physical desire for her. The Owen she'd known in high school would've already been buried within his lover's heat, but he was not that same person.

"That feels wonderful..."

He rested against her as she washed his back, pulling back a little as she began to move her actions lower over his abdomen. It was still clear the effect she was having on him, and the mage did his best to relax despite that. "I have missed you, Cass... I don't want you to think I don't find you breathtaking..."

~*~

Ben had to keep from laughing at Makayla's obvious disbelief over his name, and her contradiction in choosing to eat with him anyway. Before he answered her question, however, the mage held up a single finger and took a massive bite out of the first chicken breast. He was unable to contain the groan that accompanied the wonderful taste and texture of Makayla's cooking, and before he realized it half of the first one was gone and he still hadn't answered the woman across from him.

Sheepishly Ben wiped his mouth and took a sip of tea before chuckling nervously. "Hey, like I told the girl up front, she just needed a name. Can't be too careful of folks, and I know that's why you're giving me the side eye. All I can tell you is that there's some not so nice folks who think I owe them, and I'm not inclined to agree. Duskmarsh seems like a nice quiet place to lay low for a while, and the lack of a real name protects any innocent townsperson who happens to do me a kindness."

Cassandra smiled up at him, leaning up on her toes to press a soft kiss to his lips. it was brief, and she slowly lowered back down, moving her touch to his hips. "I know. I don't think that at all. I can tell that you do, honey. You're overthinking...." she said gently, reaching back to cleanse her hand before cupping his cheek. She moved her thumb over his skin and allowed her compassion to show through. "don't you apologize to me, okay? There's no need to."

-----------------

Makayla smirked as he dug into the food and clicked her tongue as she watched him tear into the breast. Though as he spoke she chuckled softly then relaxed into the chair, leaning to the side slightly as she tore a bite of her own off the drumstick. "Mmm," she said tilting her head slightly as if to say I'll give that to you while her mouth was full. "It is a nice quiet place, but it's not without it's... happenings. And don't think either Miranda or I am an innocent person..." she finished with a raised eyebrow as she took another bite.

Cassandra's kiss had an instant calming effect on Owen, and he leaned forward as she lowered back down to make the kiss linger for just a moment longer. He leaned into her hand as it cupped his cheek, bringing his own up to cover it. Owen couldn't help but nod a she told him he was overthinking, and just as he opened his mouth to apologize she told him not to. He was thankful in that moment for the dimmed lights as he blushed from embarrassment, but gently cuffed her chin with his index finger.

"Okay... but... if you want or need something, anything from me Cass... I'll do my best to give it. Whatever it is. I want to be here for you, too..."

~*~

Ben arched an eyebrow at Kayla's remark as he swallowed a mouthful of potatoes. "I don't think anyone really is. But neither of you is involved in my troubles, and I'm not inclined to change that. Now if you'd be interested in showing me what folks do for fun around here besides those floating casinos making their little runs to international waters from the harbor, I'd be game."
