Owen groaned against Cassandra as he felt her coming apart in his arms, and couldn't help the pride that welled within him at having had that effect on her. He brought her through her release and beyond, gently letting her down from her high before slipping his fingers from her. He moved his kisses almost regretfully away from her chest up to her neck, stopping once he reached the pulse point behind her ear.

"I've been wanting to do that for ten years," he whispered against her. "You feel and taste just as good as I remember..."

~*~

Ben nodded. "I don't know if I can say I grew up anywhere. Family moved around a lot, and I guess I inherited a bit of that wanderlust. Either that or I've just never found a place that felt like home. Still, your town seems nice enough. Any local legends I need to be careful around? Wouldn't want to step on the wrong set of toes..."

Cassandra couldn't help the small laugh that bubbled up within her. She was certain the grin wouldn't leave her face for hours. She tilted her head to the side, giving him better access to her, still with a grip on him that was likely holding the both of them up in that moment. "I've been wanting that for ten years, honey."

--------------------------

Makayla laughed outright then, and nodded. "You got a pen?" The amount of legends in Duskmarsh was ridiculous, something all the townsfolk understood. Yet none of the tourists seemed to find their way across any of them... unless you included the townsfolk themselves...

Owen's finger may have withdrawn from his lover's core, but his hand still rested against her sensitive flower, caressing it seductively with his fingertips. His kisses against her throat did not cease, and the grip she held on him told him she wanted so much more, and that his effect on her was still incredibly powerful. Pride welled up within Owen's chest at her words, along with the same fear that had crippled him up till now.

"Cass..." he breathed against her ear, their bodies so close he could swear air couldn't pass between them. "I missed you, sweetheart... I-I want..." his rested the side of his head against hers as the anxiety tried to wrestle control from him, but he wouldn't let it. "I'm afraid, darlin... of so much... but not of you... only of hurting you, disappointing you... losing you."

~*~

Ben chuckled heartily at that. "For such a small town it sounds like you guys do nothing more than breed presidents and war heroes," he quipped. "I'll go buy a ledger, have everyone I meet sign into it and put a number between one and ten to signify where they think they are on the 'town legend' scale. Should prevent any confusion," he said clearly joking with her.

Cassandra couldn't help her body's natural reaction to Owen. His presence overwhelmed her, and she didn't want to deny what she wanted. Only Owen's anxiety made her pause in her thought of pulling him against her and into her body. "I want it too, baby," she whispered, and ran her fingers through his hair, slowly guiding him back under the spray of the water to rinse his hair. Her fingers threading through his hair as she spoke "You, you, my love, have nothing to worry about. You would never harm me. You could never disappoint me, and you will never..."

She stopped, and tilted his head back down so he looked her in the eye and became very serious. "You will never lose me." she leaned up and kissed him then, gently, lovingly. The slow and tender kiss lingered as water cascaded down around their bodies. She leaned into him, allowing her body to press against his the way it had before she'd touched him and shifted back and forth, her hand moving between their bodies to gently wrap around his length.

"I need you," she breathed against his lips before delving back into the kiss, her hand slowly moving over him. Nothing in her actions showed she was forcing him to continue, her touch soft and gentle, her kiss soft and loving, with only a hint of wanting to ramp up the passion.

----------------------

Makayla laughed and shook her head. "There's a lot of rumors that float around small towns as well. Such as the rumor of the quarterback killing his sister and running off. Or the one of a girl killing her father. But there is one legend I could tell you about... Duskmarsh has protectors..." she said with a silly conspiratorial look in her gaze. "The Gods blessed certain people with powers, and when they come into their abilities and are needed to protect the town, Green flames can be seen in the harbor. When it first happened more than three hundred years ago, it was when the Salem witch trials had spread a fire of witch frenzy down the coast. Witch hunters had sprung up and were moving port to port burning women at the stake... But once they came to Duskmarsh, they were met with people who would not have it. Their ships were set on fire, but instead of orange and red flames you would normally see, the fire was green."

Owen's eyes drifted shut as Cass rinsed his hair, unable to keep his fingertips from gliding over her body in tentative exploration of what had changed in ten years. What he found was only for the better, and when she spoke it took every bit of his self control not to break down in relief. Her patience and tenderness was something he could never have hoped for, and she deserved better than the two of them giving into their hormones and ruining a beautiful rendezvous in waiting more than a decade.

"I... I need you too, Cass," he whispered, gasping as she wrapped her hand around him again. "But... not here. I... tonight...? After Melinda's asleep... wake me?"

~*~

Ben nodded thoughtfully and listened. There was certainly a large share of stories, and he was curious to know more. The tale about the protectors and the witch trials particularly intrigued him, and he decided to probe further without making it seem like he was treating her as a tour guide.

"Do you believe any of it?" he asked as they walked.

Cassandra was unknowingly in full agreement with Owen. She nodded and pressed another kiss to his lips. "Not here... No. Just..." She moaned softly and tilted her hips up toward him. "Kiss me Owen. Let me feel how much you need me too?"

--------------------------

Did she believe it? Well that was the ultimate question wasn't it? Makayla gave him a way smile and nodded. "I do. You ever see driftwood be lit on fire? It's green, because of the deposits from the ocean. " No, she couldn't say she believed it because she'd seen a Protector come into her powers... That wouldn't be smart, and Makayla was a smart woman.

Owen could not refuse such a request from his lover, regardless of whether she was currently holding his still rigid desire in her small grasp. He leaned in, capturing her lips in a deep, smoldering kiss. The mage groaned softly as he tasted Cassandra's lips, drinking in her presence like wine. Owen pulled her against him, letting his desire get trapped between their bodies and hoping that she felt every ounce of passion he poured into giving her what she asked her.

~*~

Ben smiled. If she really did believe in the supernatural, Makayla was good at hiding it. A dodge so artful would usually warrant him dropping it, but as they were walking to their destination he figured they had nothing but time. "Sure but, those boats weren't made out of the driftwood from around here, and wouldn't have the deposits for the green flames without having been in the waters for a while."

"Still, an interesting attempt to explain what likely always was the inexplicable," he said. "I believe people see what they see, record what they remember, and generally reliable sources should be considered such even when the reported account is fantastic. We do people a disservice by writing everything off as a hoax."

Cassandra slowly let go of Owen's length as he pulled her tighter against him. She wound her arms around his neck, moving her fingers I to his wet hair to hold him against her eagerly. She drank him in as much as he did to her, letting herself give in to the passion she felt from him. For long minutes she breathed him in, ignoring the slowly cooling water that he was surely feeling before breaking away to rest her forehead against him. "Tonight," she whispered against his skin, turning her passion filled gaze up to meet his.

---------------------

Makayla swallowed heavily and laughed softly. "I did say the legend said the ships were moving port to port. I also didn't say it was a hoax. But legends are stories that were passed down from generation to generation." She gestured for him to cross the street at an intersection, and about three blocks down was the sign for the bar, a wolf throwing it's head back overlaying a full moon.

Owen nodded as she pulled away and spoke, letting out a long, unsteady breath. "Tonight," he agreed. His gaze didn't leave hers for several seconds as he shut the water off, and when it did it wandered over her nude form. Small droplets of water beaded on Cassandra's skin, and the contrast in temperature caused goosebumps to form everywhere and her peaks to become delightfully hard.

After appreciating her for several moments, Owen handed his beloved a towel and got dried off himself. He carefully made his way back to the bedroom after getting dressed, feeling a deep pang of guilt for not spending more time with Melinda upon getting home. However, he was exhausted and hurt, and needed to recover if he was going to give Cass what she truly deserved later that night.

Owen wasn't sure how long he laid in bed awake, listening to the sounds of his family whenever they were loud enough to carry upstairs. When darkness eventually claimed him, it allowed him the peaceful, restful slumber he needed. However, by the time Melinda was in bed, the mage's dreams had turned to nightmares.

~*~

Ben crossed the intersection with Makayla, nodding thoughtfully. "No I get it. Just those stories often have more truth to them than those who hear them secondhand are willing to believe. I've seen enough strange shit in my day that very little surprises me anymore."

Cassandra leaned against Owen under the spray for the moments leading up to him turning the water off. A shiver rushed through her as she saw his gaze wandering over her body, and in that moment desperately wanted his hands to follow his gaze, and then his delicious mouth...

She shook her head slightly to rid herself of the thoughts as he handed her the towel and quickly dried herself off to slip back into the clothing she'd discarded before climbing into the shower with Owen.

She watched him go into the bedroom as she pulled a brush through her hair to straighten the strands and shook it out to separate them so it'd dry faster before padding downstairs to the living room. Her daughter had changed the channel to Ghost Adventures and giggled at the screen as Cass plopped down on the opposite end of the couch from her. She was interrogated as to where Owen was, and carefully explained that her daughter's father was hurting and needed to rest, but as tomorrow was a Saturday, she would have plenty of time to spend time with him the next day.

That seemed to placate the girl and the rest of the evening flew by as they made a Taco dinner, watched a movie together, and then got Melinda ready for bed. Cassandra tucked her daughter in before moving to the bedroom to silently undress and pull on a knee length, electric blue, satin nightgown with a robe to match as she made her way to the bed.

She hung the robe on a hook near the bed, and climbed onto the mattress. It quickly became clear that Owen was trapped in his own mind, in a nightmare. She reached out to him, gently laying her hand on his cheek, grabbing a brief flash of his torment before she called out to him. She trailed her fingers down his cheek, and tried to push the image of her calmly calling out to him waiting with open arms into his subconscious. She wanted him to find her and be calmed by her presence.

-------------------------

Makayla laughed at that, completely convinced he hadn't seen nearly as much weird shit as she had. "Ditto..."

Owen's sleep as Cassandra lay down beside him was fitful and uneven, but as she stroked his cheek and gently called his name, the mage calmed. After a few moments of this, his eyes drifted open with a groan. Finding himself not suspended from the ceiling by chains and instead in a soft bed with his beloved hovering over him made his instincts immediately sharpen to a razor'z edge.

He looked up at Cass with mild suspicion, his breathing still a little uneven. "Am I dreaming?"

~*~

"Alright, so there's a ton of strange crap that happens here, which sounds kind of awesome in a way. So what's the downside to living in a coastal paradise?" he asked. "I fail to see the catch here."

Cassandra shook her head and smiled softly down at him. "Not at all. I'm here baby, you're safe." Her heart went out to the love of her life as she saw the doubt in his eyes. She understood the doubt though, and sought to soothe him as he once did for her. "I'm here."

----------------------

Makayla laughed again and nodded. "The catch? It's a small town and everybody knows everybody's business, and if there's not business to know, there's gossip, and rumors and heresay to begin. Don't get me wrong, I love my town. But there's only so much of the small town life I can take."

The witch looked up at the bar's sign that they were nearing, and then up at the half moon hanging in the sky. She wouldn't, and couldn't mention the random demon attacks because of what she was, who she was, and what she was a part of. She couldn't mention the fact that there were dangers that lingered in the dark alleys that the local werewolf pack saught to rid the town of. Couldn't explain that somewhere out there were vampires, and mages, and whatever the hell her sister's boyfriend was.... Those were all downsides to living in Duskmarsh of all places. A Gods damned spiritual nexus that seemed to draw people both magical and non-magical to it like a moth to the flame.

Owen seemed genuinely surprised for a moment as he considered Cassandra's words, as if even years later he could hardly believe he'd escaped Sadrith Mora. The memory, it seemed, could still hold more power over his mind than reality under the right circumstances. His next words were more to himself than anyone, uttered on a breathless whisper.

"I got out..."

There was a hint of disbelief and incredulity behind the words, but when he turned his gaze on Cass again, he finally saw her. She took his breath away. His favorite color draped over her perfect silhouette like tapestry hanging from a sculpture of Venus, and her emerald eyes seemed to glow with concern in the near darkness. Owen swallowed back an apology, instead letting her voice ground him the same as her touch.

"I'm either in a dream, or in heaven... either way I don't care," he replied with an unsure smile. "Was Melinda upset when I didn't come back downstairs?"

~*~

Ben could tell the Latina was deep in thought, and that told him enough about the town he was in. While not immediately ready to peg her as part of it, clearly there were supernatural happenings in the area. The small town feel made him wonder just how much even the mortal populace knew and kept under wraps to protect their autonomy.

"Yeah, but cities are so loud, even if they did gossip you wouldn't be able to hear it. I grew up outside of a few, and they're all the same to me. Towns like this though are... unique. Each one a small slice of society when mostly left alone. It's why the best stories come out of small towns and not London. Even Harry Potter didn't bother with London much."

Cassandra smiled and nodded, thinking he meant the dream and not the prison she had so much to learn about. She giggled softly as he initially spoke, and leaned down to press a kiss to his lips before he spoke again. She shook her head and gave a sincere smile as she gazed into his violet eyes. "Not upset, no. Concerned for her daddy, but I told her you'll have plenty of time together tomorrow."

----------------------

Makayla laughed out right then as he mentioned Harry Potter and nodded. "Truth, you speak the truth. There's more culture to a smaller town, each one with it's on unique life that sings through the entire populace."

Owen's eyes drifted shut for a moment when Cass kissed him, a smile forming on his lips when she spoke about their daughter. "She's like her mom that way it seems," he replied. He reached up to gently caress her face, unable to take his gaze from hers despite the alluring nightgown she wore. However, his touch eventually drifted to her shoulders, fingering the straps there delicately.

"You look stunning," he breathed, finally letting his gaze move over her slender figure. "Is this for me...?"

~*~

"Sings, huh?" Ben snorted a little. "I've been to a lot of places, but never one where people burst into random musical numbers. This I gotta see. If we stop by the auto garage tomorrow will we hear 'Greased Lightning'?" he joked, poking just a bit of fun.
