Behind the Iron Door; Adventure open!

Tide noticed Banner walk in at the last minute, but decided to hold off on the hi for now. Xe didn't look like xe wanted in on introductions yet and Tide wasn't about to get on the bad side of a 10 foot tall robot. Not that she was sure a robot would even have a bad side...She always remembered Pierce being fairly good nature and rarely upset. Then again, xe wasn't Pierce so Tide would bide her time for now and wait for a better time to introduce herself.

"I am sure it will be wonderful Raferties. And that is always wise...Especially when an illogical field is in play." That was one thing that hadn't changed between Planet and here. It may go by a different name, but to Tide, it was still the same old field that loved to make the impossible possible and break any laws of reality it could find.

The door seemed simple enough really and Tide shook her head, not really having any questions to speak of.

As Raferties pushed open the door, she hung back a little. While curious, Tide knew it would be unwise for her to be the first one down or the last one down. No combat skills and a bad habit of breaking down at the smallest sign of fire made her not a good idea for either one of those positions.

Hanging back a little bit, she found herself close to Banner and looked up at him with a smile. Might as well introduce herself now before things got too out of control. "Hello. I'm Tidesweep. Are you new to Sundered?" She was also stalling before going down those steps.

Scared? Her? Yep. Totally. If the light bats were warning, then something bad was bound to be down there...Right?

James blinked as he watched a armored giant walk in. Ok, now I've seen everything. He wasn't quite sure how to address Xim So he simply just followed Raferties. When they came to the door. James felt... underwhelmed. It was indeed, a plain iron door. He was expecting something a little more... grand. But he supposed he shouldn't of expected much. When Raferties opened the door though. James couldn't help but feel old instincts kick in. Years of being tested and forged on a battlefield are hard to forget.

He passed Tide as she seemed to be holding back. He didn't blame her really. This just seemed like a bad idea. He took point, after Raf of course. His skills were best served if he didn't have to shoot pass a ton of people. Yet he needed light for shooting. Bad time to not have night vision googles. He thought. His hand didn't stray far from his holsters. This place didn't seem... right. He was glad that Hren was here. He was willing to bet his hat against a toothpick that the ranger a good idea as to everything that was happening around him.

"This place is making more nervous than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs." James said, Pitt looked up at him. His eyes showed that he was filing that one away. He looked over at the scrolls. He wasn't sure what they were. Nor if they were useful. When they came to the fork in the road. He looked down both paths. His logic on this things was generally to choose one at random. One path was as good as any other. Though, he wasn't gonna be the one to doom the party if they chose wrong.

His thoughts started to race the way they did when he was solving a problem. He started to take in the room. His mind absorbing the info around.
What did he have? Scrolls, they may provide a the suggestion for a easier route. Or maybe info on where they are. He decided to start looking through them.

"Hey, Raferties, maybe we should look through these? Might provide some much needed clues." He said, motioning towards the scrolls.

(Tried my best to place the question in character. I want to inspect the scrolls.)

Cassandra smiled to herself, pausing to allow anyone with more assertive direction to make their way where they would be comfortable. She remembered vaguely that Tidesweep was not the most fond of aggressive situations, having seen her during the Giant Egg incident when they were all regathering. She couldn't be completely assured of the metallic creature or James, but James was acting rather like a scout in a sense, so she allowed him to "do his thing".

As she entered the primary room with the scrolls, her eyes flickered over her surroundings to analyze it in brief. Then, her eyes locked on the hole in the wall and she hesitated. James seemed as though he had the parchment covered, so she chose to just vaguely pay attention in case anything was magical. Instead, the Djinn leaned against the edge of the makeshift doorway and peered down the halls.

Using her link with Hren, she murmured in her mind:
Spoiler: click to toggle

Aloud, as she stretched her magic like tendrils down the hallways to sense anything mystical, she addressed the rest of the following group. "Do any of you have any experience with delving into the depths of dungeons? I know that Scarheart does and I have had my fair share of the like... I presume that you've dabbled, Raferties."

((OOC :: As in bold, Cassandra is using magic to "detect magic" in a nearby radius.))
((Also, if you couldn't tell, you can all read the spoiler text, but I put it there as a warning that technically none of you can IC hear it. It's for 'story' effect and I put it in the spoiler block to help hopefully not confuse anyone with who specifically Cassandra's addressing.))

The angel looked towards James at his suggestion and nodded in agreement, moving towards the middle of the room so his Radiance shed light upon everything present.

"That is a wise idea - James, correct? I believe I heard you call yourself that previously. Typically I am not in the habit of eavesdropping, but when one is made to listen to things, it is a hard to not hear what happens within a close proximity." He nodded towards the shelves. "Perhaps you will find something of note."

Exploring through the scrolls, many of which were blank, would take about five minutes or so. However one cluster of five papers, tied together in a roll, held written accounts kindly in the common language. Apparently the words of the last librarian to take care of this place, it would reveal that not only was the basement not a new addition, but the hole in the wall wasn't either. The decades-old account related the first adventurers who had ventured down into the depths, and though it failed to note their exact route taken - it seems the caretaker at the time wasn't the bold sort - it would reveal some interesting pieces of information:

It would tell of a race of creatures, content to live and let live, that fiercely protected apple-sized white crystals that grew along the walls of the tunnels, a massive beast that consumed stone enough to hollow out caverns in days yet could be reasoned with and bribed with offers of metals and gems, and some terrifying monster they were careful to avoid that lurked deep within, rumbling in the darkness and had plates on its body like iron, yet by description was no dragon they had ever heard of.

((OOC: Congratulations! You have unlocked a Lore: Dwellers of the Deep))

Meanwhile, Raferties turned to Cassandra. smiling at her words.

"In truth, dealing with the singing castle was the first real time I have ventured into anything underground," he confessed, watching as she began using her magical senses. "Though I have stood in several dangerous situations. I warn, though, for those who do not know this about me I am not much of a combatant. While I am trained to use my staff, it is a secondary attack for me; I can hurl a ball of holy fire with greater precision. I can also heal, but it is limited. Solaris made me to be a Lorekeeper, rather than a normal Guardian. I believe it is only fair that you know this."

Cassandra would detect first the presence of the magic within the group themselves, Raferties most certainly being a part of that set. Though pushing past it, she would be able to pick up on pulsing magics from deep within the tunnels, seeming to bank towards the southern branch of the two routes ahead.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Alright, I just thought I'd take a moment to explain a but more. Whenever someone does something that will possibly have an effect on the others - trying to listen for danger, saying they're scouting ahead, investigation, etc, I will reply as fast as I can what whatever results, if any, are required.. This will keep others from waiting on the results to act, and hopefully allow things to flow smoothly.

I will also be keeping track of information you unlock through the course of this Adventure in my first post's OOC area, with links to each place such information in revealed. What you learn may come into play later on!

Now, on with the Adventure!

(Also, in advance, I apologize for any typos in this. For some reason I've had no end of trouble with my fingers and the keyboard this morning!)
Note: Until further stated, Scarheart, Belial, and Cassandra have standing permission to powerplay Raferties or Anari.

As James rolled up the scrolls, having gathered what information they contained, five shiny gold coins would fall into his hands. Lucky!

(These coins can be used in that shop, given as a Random Event. Congratulations!)

James pocketed the coins. He would of been a little more excited, but the news of the monster lurking in the deep put him off. That, and the frustration of opening one to many blank scrolls. He turned and relayed the Lore he had learned to the other what he had learned. Then remembering what Cass had asked. "Dungeons in particular? No, where I come from, We don't have dungeons. Though I've seen a fair share of old forts. Some of them are old castles that have been re-purposed. So does that count?" He said, turning to Raferties, "Yeah, it's James. And don't worry, as far as combat capabilities go. Shooting fire out of your hand is pretty awesome." James said, giving a small grin.

"Though if we are talking about our fighting skills. I'm as good a shot as they come. Just give me clear line of sight. And I'll drop any enemy that is in the way." He said, pulling Sidewinder and giving a swift flourish to emphasize his point. "So, any development while I was busy?"

Hren, for the most part, absent-mindedly followed behind the group, letting the fact they needed to see ahead of them take precedence while from behind he would still observe his surroundings in all other senses, regardless of obstructions in the line of effect. Despite the sensibility of it all, however, this approach was certainly best for the blind woodsman, for his social skills could well be compared to those of a rock.

At the revealing of the door, its ferrous nature was simple and crude, forged from countless metals from different ore deposits. Likely a craftsman who bought his ore from as many sources as time would allow for his needs... how disappointing.

Scrolls? Useless in the hands of Scarheart... unless of course they were written in touch-common, or braille as some have taken to calling it.

No, it was the allure of rubble and natural cavern that drew Hren's attention. Flanking to the other side of the broken wall alongside Cassandra, he pressed his back to the stone and relaxed into the whispering of the earth itself. Everything he needed to know about the tunnel would be provided to him on the air, or lack thereof should it be old and stale; through the heartbeat of the stone and the contact of the wall; or through that preternatural instinct that one simply developed after countless years of exposure to a myriad of situations.

"Something broke into this room from the outside, I take it, since there's rubble beneath my feet."

Scarheart reached across to Cassandra, getting a gauge of the hole's size in order to formulate an image in his mind as to what could have brought suck wreckage to this sublevel of a library.

Cassandra's lighter demeanor faltered ever-so-slightly as she sensed down the hall, though it was back as soon as it had flickered away.

"Well, anything that could involve more dangerous scenarios is probably going to come of use down here." The Djinn ran a finger over the edge of the broken stone lightly and nodded to herself as she spoke, "Yes, Scarheart... it looks like something broke into our current room."

Taking a small step into the hall, Cassandra glanced up and down the passages as she contemplated their options. "There is magic to the south. I can't say much for the type until I would get closer, and even then, it might be too old or foreign to tell specifics. However..." She spun on her heel, her light skirt billowing around her ankles as she stopped to grin back at the others. "I think we should investigate deeper towards the magic. Anyone else have a say?"

James ran a thumb along the handle of one of his pistols. Thinking about the choices. Magic... He wasn't sure how helpful a bullet would be useful against some sort of magical being. But he guessed he was about to find out.

"Well, if we are gonna run into trouble. Then we might as well go towards it than have it at our back. I agree." He said, nodding in agreement.

"Any body else?"

((A quick response to Scarheart's Perceiving down the corrodor))

Listening with his incredibly keen hearing, Scarheart would pick up a very, very faint noise, meaning that to all the others it would likely be inaudible and coming from the same southern passage that it seems the magic was coming from as well: a clicking noise, as if picks were being tapped upon the ground as the gentle vibrations would indicate. By best guess, perhaps ten or so picks, though they would overlap one another so discerning exact numbers would be impossible. Also, a humming, more felt than heard, through the stone itself.

((Just as an aside, others can still join in the Adventure at this point - arriving late, out voices and Raf's light would be audible/visible from the top of the stairs easily enough.))

"Music in the soul can be heard by the universe."
- Lao Tzu

The blind ranger was definitely intrigued by the sounds he heard. Some sort of creature mining for valuables, that accidentally broke through a wall into a bunch of parchment, wouldn't really be inclined to stay in the vicinity. So far, things were still making sense.

"I agree. Let us face that which might otherwise provide us difficulty later. In the distance, there is a group working at something - perhaps mining. Pointed objects impacting the stone, though the intensity of such impact I cannot detect as of yet. In my home, there are many creatures known for their communal mining, humans included - but I do not think Humans would have broken their way into this particular room and simply left things as it lay now."

Scarheart was curious - a very bad trait to have for someone who didn't really fear death. So many more troubles could be found than silly death. The woodsman would step through the break and into the rough caverns beyond, hoping that being surrounded by the dense stone of the tunnel, all sounds would become much more clear while he awaited others to decide their course of action.

"What do you mean you've a 'delivery' for me?"

A very unrelated pack of Firelizards all perched and/or hovered over a parchment with flowing silver script. Specifically, a zealous little mottled bronze was standing with one foot over the corner to hold it in place, giving Korazjh a glare the Gith had become accustomed to - though that did not prevent him from having thoughts of firelizard-kabobs every time such an event would occur.

"Don't give me that look, Zirog. I don't care if the winged one needs my help, there will be plenty of other do-gooders to respond and I need not waste my time nor effo-"

The Gith was interrupted by nudge from the brown of the pack, Imperator. There was a slow gaze between them, before a smile took hold of Korazjh'iktha's face. "Good advice, Commander. I think I will attend this gathering of souls."

With that, the Gith gathered the Kirava - creatures that could shed light and provide useful, as well as loyalty... unlike certain sanctimonious creatures who thought they knew right all the time... and set out for the Library in question. The trek was quick with the Astral Sea providing plenty of short cuts along the way, and eventually the Gith General strode his way inside the main hall, and took little issue with showing himself around and finding the iron door, and subsequently the stairs down.

At hearing the talking below, he paused on the steps, steeling his breath with psychic dominance over his mortal coil, and eagerly listened.

Korazjh thought to himself with an unspoken appreciation for how his horde was already providing usefulness:
~Yes Commander, good idea indeed - you never know when a favor from an Angel will provide value...~

At the affirmation from the two obvious warriors present and the movements of Scarheart, Cassandra felt that any additional delay would be pointless. So, with a faint shrug towards the delayed silent others, the Djinn smiled and followed upon the heels of the blind ranger. For those that were incapable of necessarily seeing in the dark, she flickers her hand, an orb of bluish frost coating her palm and dripping down her arm, illuminating the intersection and corridors ahead of them.

"Well, it's at least good to know there are creatures down here.... I wouldn't be too fond of the idea of turning corner to find them staring at us in wait." The unspoken appreciation for Hren's perception was implied and she paused to glance back over her shoulder.

"If any of you need anything, let me know. I'm sure you're not defenseless..." Her eyes lingered briefly on the metallic nature of Banner and she knew rather well of Raferties, obviously, "...but I'm occasionally a little overcautious."

With every step, a faint ring of ice would trail behind her, fading with a bit of time, the rough ground not seeming to phase her and her bare feet in the process of their movements.

Oh, Primus save xir, they all knew how to talk.

Offhand Ban didn’t know why that particular revelation came as such a surprise. After all, everything ELSE on this blasted planet seemed both willing and able to strike up a conversation at the least provocation. Why not the humanoids as well? At least they spoke verbally rather than... psionically, or psychically, or however the little flying beasties xe’d tripped over earlier had communicated. Words were easy to block out. Psionic intrusions? Those took a little more work.

There was no time for amazement, though, not when the angel (...that was the human’s term for winged humanoids, was it not?) spoke of danger and warning. Ban stepped slowly closer as Raferties explained the task at hand, little face caught in a fretful sort of frown. Abandoned doors in long-lost storage rooms were never good news, especially in a world as utterly illogical as Teragaia. Back in Tarn they’d held anything from sparkeaters to scraplets. What on Cybertron would they have here?

...and, more importantly, would any of them be able to defend themselves should the worst come to pass?

Banner wasn’t much of a soldier in the grand scheme of things, but xe was still both larger and vastly more armored than anyone else present. That alone was enough to send xir skittering through the door towards the front of their motley little band, electronic ears and eyes flung wide in search of any threat the others might have overlooked. Their first destination proved relatively unremarkable; none too sure xe’d be able to parse the scrolls, Ban left the others to their reading. Instead the Autobot padded off to examine the rough hole apparently blasted into a nearby wall. Scarheart and Cassandra beat xir to it.

End result? One bemused Autobot standing in the middle of a room looking just a smidge bit lost.

Then Tide spoke up, all sweetness and light, and Banner found xirself smiling back as best a mechanical being could. Some things were universal, after all, and kindness was among them.

“I’m afraid I am, Tidesweep. My name is Banner, though, and it’s wonderful to meet you.” Kneeling, xe offered Tide a hand to shake, projecting calm and welcome as best xe could under such atypical circumstances. “Is this sort of thing common here?”

Next to speak was Scarheart, though Ban got the distinct impression neither his response nor James’ statement were aimed at xir. Both men seemed all too eager to jump into things headfirst. An admirable stance, really, but the thought of the two risking themselves made something cold and sour congeal in xir tank. No. No more violence. Not for xir sake, and not if xe could help it.

“I’m not much of a fighter,” Xe admitted aloud, mismatched optics straying towards the two, “But I may be able to sense something you lot can’t. Ah- if I may?” Sorry, Scarheart and Cassandra, xe wasn’t quite sure how close xe was allowed to get.

...or, y’know. How to deal with not-quite-humans in such numbers. Give xir some time, xe’s new around here still.
It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll

The room was pretty big. Bigger than what Tide was expecting at least. Boxes and scrolls and a...Yep. That was a giant hole over in one corner. Looked like something or someone broke in here. Which must have been interesting. Listening to the others, she didn't speak up mostly cause she agreed with what they were staying. Moving towards what would be the greater danger would give them more of an advantage if an attack came up. Not that she was hoping for that. Much like Banner, fighting was not her strong suit. At all.

"I am a little scared too. But after a dragon bonding, sometimes these things are a...I believe the term is a piece of cake." She reached out and shook xir hand. Tide wasn't scared of Banner of course. She was after all used to things towering above her but not meaning her harm. "As for common..." She thought for a minute before shrugging. "I have no idea. I have only been here a few months to be honest. It seems like something once a month is going that I am aware of. Would that count as common?"

Even if it didn't, that was okay. She was starting to realize, that much like Planet, this place seemed like it couldn't survive without some kind of disaster or adventure going on. Must have come with the whole talking companion territory.

Cassandra had already started down the hole and Tide moved to bring up the rear of the group. James said he would need a clear shot and she assumed Cassandra would be the same way. Or at least enough of a clear heading to see where people were. Though she made sure that if they had to make a hasty retreat, she wasn't gonna hinder that for them. She wanted to whisper, but didn't know how much it would echo through the cavern. After all, some people did have better hearing than others and who knows how they could pick up sound.

Tide suddenly remembered something she read and started to walk more slowly, stepping as carefully as she could over the floor. Just in case they could pick up vibrations through the earth and be actually to tell if it was them causing or something else. Reaching the hole, she paused for a moment before shaking her head at Cassandra. She didn't need anything cause she really wasn't planning on fighting. Running was more her style.

(arg! Almost missed this. Results for Banner's scans. Proper update will be on Wednesday morning – I promise I'll get more on the draw with posting results to perceptions and such.)

Banner's scans would indicate much of what the others had already picked up on – tapping sounds that only a blind ranger or mechanical being had a hope of registering at this point, the heart rates of those around him (some faster in nerves or excitement, some neutral in calmness as was their natures), etc – though one of his sensors, when tuned to picking up electrical impulses, would also register something that the others couldn't: a strange, almost chatter-like static that rippled in the air from – you guessed it – the southern turn in the passage. The direction that they wanted to go. Focusing and tweaking a few parameters would get some results, though they wouldn't be neat or organized by any means.
