Cassandra had to double take when she saw the creatures. Suffice it to say, she had not been quite expecting to see something quite like this... more insects, perhaps, but this was a rather interesting turn of appearances.

She shot a quick glance to Scarheart, then to Korazjh as he spoke. Scarheart's words added a slight amount of levity to her mood as he offered the notion to follow the creatures... Korazjh... he made her honestly wonder if he was trying to pull down the forces that be to rain chaos upon them all. He was speaking like it. And perhaps he would enjoy that. The Djinn, herself, liked chaos, but he was just asking for it and for that, she gave him a slightly scrutinous gaze before flashing a smile and nodding.

"Let's just try to avoid any phrases like 'the worst that could happen' and all that, okay?" Cassandra looped an arm lightly around Scarheart to progress further into the tunnels.

The Selu'ani remained silent, even as Korazjh chose to speak up. "I do not think it wise in the slightest to anger anyone unnecessarily, so yes, let us follow them for now. Is everyone else comfortable with this? It seems unanimous so far.." Yes, the creatures were odd and she had never seen anything of the like, but she was not fond of automatically presuming that they had to be in these tunnels with an aggressive intent.

Ashyana was rather calm, otherwise, to the creatures' approach and stepped forward as her hearing managed to pick up on the murmur of the Githyanki to Scarheart. Clearing her throat softly, she added her own note to his words, "Some of us are not quite as charmed with immortality, so one could hope to still maintain a fragment of sensibility to our actions in the eyes of threat. I would greatly desire to not be killed today." Ashyana offered a faint smile, but hoped that it did not entirely take away the intent of her statement.

Everyone

With the consensus being to follow the strange creatures, as even Raferties nodded in agreement, the group followed their strange guides down and into the next chamber, where the heroes would all see what James had seen: four more beings, so six in total, each identical to the first. All of these would have their arms in the more relaxed positions, swaying slightly as they stood and apparently waiting for their fellows to return with us. Two of them, kept near the back, would each cradle in their arms one of the crystals as had been seen in the chamber that had beckoned entry. These would be some of the largest everyone had seen, glowing brilliantly and possessing a secondary pulsing shine… like a heartbeat?

No words would be said as the escorts would begin moving through the tunnels, taking several twists and turns that would confuse anyone not a part of their world and thus accustomed to the path. There would be a growing hum in the air, faint though detectable if one thought on it for a moment and as easily ignored a moment later, which to Korazjh and Banner would be registered as the same increase in telepathic/electrical thrum as had been felt by the two the entire time.

Suddenly, everyone would round a bend and see two more of the creatures, moving from one chamber to another! They would seemingly pay the party no mind other than to glance (if that black diamond shape were indeed eyes) in their direction before continuing on their way. And further down, another cluster of four carrying stone in their arms departing a tunnel. And everywhere everyone and Scarheart especially would detect the clack-click of their steps and the scrape of their blade-arms into stone, the sounds very similar to mining. These creatures, it seemed, were tunnelers. And utterly silent in their doings; never once did anyone hear any sort of communication from any of them, yet it was clear there was something happening. To the Gith, this would be only too clear as a near continual whisper of telepathic conversation would make the place, so quiet to the others, abuzz in his head with noise.

The two of the six escorts would break away from the group, leaving only the two designated as guides and the two with the crystals behind. As the group passed, the others of this strange race would get out of the way not in an alarmed strangers-in-their-midst manner, but almost… anticipatory? Somehow, the presence of the heroes would be immediately accepted, as if they knew everyone would be there beforehand, and even in a way dismissed this in favor of something else.

Finally, after many twists and turns, the group would be led into a large chamber alight by many phosphorescent crystals. At least three dozen of these creatures would be in this chamber, coming and going on business that was transacted without any sound. In the far side of the room would be a new type of these creatures, massive beings in form much like centaurs, with a considerably more muscular version of the creatures for the 'human' part, and a thick-legged quadruped for the 'horse' part (those familiar with Shield Gargoyles might find some similarity). Quite to the point, their arms would be in a definitely more combative shape with one flat and broad like a shield, the other turned into a form very much akin to a huge blade. Each of these would stand easily some seven feet tall, towering over their smaller kin. These two would be standing guard before a large stone, that would have a faint chair shape (think like a beanbag chair) draped in layers of softening lichen and moss. And upon it would recline… a woman?

Well, she would look humanoid in shape, like a woman. Her body would be the same base gray as theirs, wrapped in a dress of lichen. Her face would also be human-like, with proper eyes and nose and mouth, though her eyes would be solid black. Her hair would hand to mid-back in thick waves that would be hard to define as being hair or shimmering jade as at times it would look like each, and she would as best guess stand around four feet tall were she standing.

Again, without a word spoken (except to Korazjh and Banner, who would get an powerful burst of impulses) the two with the crystals would approach and offer them to her, and she would take both of them, holding them close and looking them over for a moment before nodding in seeming approval. This time the telepathic and even empathic response would be so powerful, seeming to come from everywhere at once, that everyone in the group was aware of the elation that was enough to almost knock one to their knees. Raferties certainly staggered a bit, wings rustling. Hearing the noise that broke the otherwise relative silence of the complex, the female would look up.

Welcome to my domain. The voice would come into everyone's minds, powerful and smooth and giving the impression of a matriarch in complete dominance over her clan. If I recall our stories passed to me from my predecessor, your kind often introduce yourselves upon meeting. I am Queen Ilythica of the Sithkin, and you have come into our nest. This is not the first time that we have had surface-dwellers arrive down here, though it has been many, many cycles and even through the passing of another Queen. Her eyes would travel over the group, studying each person in turn. As she spoke, she picked up a violet crystal that had been at her side and began passing it over the crystals she held over and over. While normally we do not like those who intrude upon our world, you have done myself a great favor by defending the Crystal Garden from those beasts who would have destroyed it. That is a debt that I must repay, so I have asked you to be brought here, both to inquire why you are here, and offer my thanks for your deed… despite the tendency of one of your number to challenge my authority in my own realm. Perhaps you might do me the kindness of explaining why you are here, and introducing yourselves? This is polite in your lands, yes? In return, I will try to answer any questions you may have. Raferties gave his wings a small rustle to settle them (and probably to gather his thoughts), then bowed.

“I am called Raferties, Lorekeeper of Solaris, and I thank you for the escort and non-aggression from your people. In truth, I have recently been given custodianship of the library that lies above your realm, and when I discovered an iron door leading underground I asked for assistance to explore it and ensure that it was safe. These with me have volunteered to do so, though I shall allow them to introduce themselves, and ask what questions they have.” Raferties did have some cunning to him; while he knew some by certain names, they might not want those names known, and this way they would only reveal what they wanted.

((Alright, for this segment I will be doing edits, only it'll be answers to any question that are posed to her. Again, you can post – IE ask as many questions – as you want, just be sure that you don't double-ask a question someone else has posed. Some she may not answer, some she might.))

Tide followed them through the tunnels, not even bothering trying to keep everything straight. Directions weren't her forte to begin with and well...Being underground certainly didn't help that matter any. Sticking close, her eyes widen in amazement as they entire the throne room. Or at least that is what she was calling it in her mind, a bit unaware these beings functioned not on spoken word, but mental.

She wasn't paying much attention to what was going on around her. There was too much to focus on to do so. Though she regretted it an instance later as the telepathic and empathic energy went so high up on the scale that she could actually feel it. She stumbled to her knees in surprise as she placed her hands over her ears. Not that it did anything to stop it. If anything, it just made her seem ridiculous as she looked up a the woman, eyes sweeping her face.

As Raferties introduced himself, she stood up slowly and quietly. Biting her lip, she decided to speak next. Give the others time to gather up their thoughts and size the place up in a way. "I am Tidesweep or Tide as most people call me. Um....I am not much. I just came to help out Raferties like he said." She bit her bottom lip for a second before continuing on. "What were those giant beetle things? Why were they after the crystals? Do they really eat rocks for nutrients or..." A thought suddenly dawned on her that maybe the 'rocks' weren't actually rocks. At least not fully. That as a...She wasn't gonna lie, that was a scary thought considering they had almost walked into that craven without so much as a how do you do.

As Tide rose, Raferties flicked a wing over her shoulders to help steady her and gave an encouraging smile.

Those beetles, as I understand your word, are a natural denizen of the underground world. We do not have a word for them, but I believe my predecessor said that those who came down here once before from the surface called them Crystal Eaters. By that name I believe your second question is answered: yes, they liquefy and consume any sort of crystalline material they can find. Normally we do not have such trouble with them, at most one or two every once and a while, as they know well of us. But sadly that is no longer the case. The crystals in the cavern that you unknowingly defended are vitally important to us, so you have my thanks for that. The Crystal Eaters are far smarter than I had believed, and knew to detain my Sithkin from going to defend them. We, as much as I dislike admitting it, could do nothing, and the outcome if you hadn't been there... She shudders visibly, as if it's too horrible to fathom.

Cassandra followed with a slight skip to her step, her energy and elation high. Should it fall, the mood of the group, she believed, would plummet. Thus, she tried to always be smiling and taking the lighter side of the situations at hand and in this case it was that they were being allowed to meet royalty... even it if wasn't technically any of their kind's royalty. But that didn't matter.

Occasionally, the Djinn found herself turning around to walk backwards as she didn't really want to miss a single thing, though when they finally reached the proverbial throne room, she spun to pay full attention to the "Queen". The attention didn't last long, honestly. When the blast of emotion washed over her, she had to bite back a shriek and slammed her eyes shut. The sensation was too familiar to her and she loathed it more than anything. It didn't matter the intent of the emotion that was coursing through the air to all of them, Cassandra had not been expecting it or the rush of memories to the force of will from her previous Masters. It was similar enough to startle her from her own happiness, causing her mood to turn slightly dour after it faded and she managed to open her eyes.

Cassandra's eyes flickered over Tide as she noticed that the other female had been affected by the mental assault, as well, and the Djinn at least didn't feel quite as foolish for her reaction. She still kept her arms tight to her stomach as she listened and watched, remaining silent.

The tunnels were long and winding, something that reminded Ashyana of formian tunnels that she had traveled in the past. Ironic, she found it, that ant-people and these odd creatures would be similar in that aspect and she found herself wondering that since Korazjh'iktha had spoken to the Queen with his mental acuity, perhaps they were a similarly telepathic and potentially generally psionic species.

Ashyana shook away the thoughts for a later time, her eyes darting around and gauging the creatures' reactions and body language as she noted the passageways as best as she could. It would be difficult to find one's way out of this maze, but she figured that if she was not the only one keeping an eye on the routes they were taking, it would be relatively easy to work together if they needed to quickly evacuate.

When they finally reached the end chamber, Ashyana's eyes immediately focused on the Queen, just as all the others in the group probably were. It was hard to not see her as she stood out drastically in comparison to the other creatures and many other entities she had seen in the past. Nonetheless, Ashyana stood attentively to the situation... until there was the wash of emotion.

She was far from immune to the wave that hit into the lot of explorers, but she was rather thankful for her stillness of her mind. Inwardly, she cringed at the overflow of emotion, surprised by a creature managing to show that much empathic capability. Another part of her wondered if it was intentional; a show of power, especially towards Korazjh, since he was obviously a potential threat.

Outwardly, Ashyana blinked and kept a blank expression as she watched the Queen. Not a twitch shook her body, nor a cringe or a sway. She was not attempting to seem arrogant in the slightest, truth-be-told and the Queen would, if she was as strong as an empath or telepath as the Selu'ani presumed, be capable of reading such reactions from her mind. No, Ashyana was merely showing that she was a mountain for her companions.

After Raferties finished speaking and Tidesweep had addressed the Queen and even been answered, Ashyana stepped forward and bowed curtly, not showing the back of her neck to the female.

"I am called Detsuru Ashyana. Ashyana is my addressed name and Detsuru is the name of my family. I believe that I speak for the entirety of our collection present that, as both Raferties and Tidesweep have mentioned, we are explorers at the moment. We were curious as to what was beneath Raferties' building and when we found what you called the Crystal Eaters, we felt the need to eliminate a potential threat." Ashyana knew that her words were long and intricate, a part of her hoping that her speech was not confusing at all for the beings, yet she continued, nonetheless.

"I simply wish to ask this... why is this the first that we are having knowledge of you if you have seen a number of individuals that have made their way down into your domain? Are you a threat to the individuals that live above your home or do you intend peace?" She paused, choosing to ask her final question, as well, "Finally, if I may pry, what is the importance of the aforementioned Crystal Garden? You give indication that it is rather important to you, moreso than any other crystals would be, so I am intrigued as to your culture and the importance thereof."

The Queen briefly glanced her eyes over Cassandra for her silence, but then focused on Ashyana.

In my lifetime, I have never encountered surface-dwellers. But during the time of my predecessor a small group found their way down to us, and interacted with her. That is the only known time that your kind and ours have interacted to my knowledge. As for our intentions, we have lived in these tunnels for generations of my kind. If we intended aggression, would we not have done so already? The crystals in her arms briefly clicked against one another as she held them close, still running the violet crystal over them. Those who came before knew, so I am surprised that the knowledge was not passed on. The Garden, or to be more precise the crystals within, are the centerpoint of our existence.

Through all this conversation, Queen Ilythica would have never stopped running the violet crystal over the surface of the two white crystals she held. Abruptly the white crystals would crack, a spiderweb of fractures appearing over its surface, then shatter and leave...something in its place? The creature would be gray, perhaps a foot long at most, possessing only two legs that would resemble an animal's (reverse knee), a long tail that would likely help in balance, a triangular head on a short neck, and a single black band where its eyes should be. ((for body reference, picture a velociraptor with no front arms, no mouth, no claws, and a band for eyes, and gray all over). Its resemblance to the bulk of the Sithkin would be clear. A moment later, the second crystal would also fracture and shatter, making it two of the things in her arms. Another burst of elation later, and two of the Sithkin would come to take the pair of squirming things, treating them with the utmost of gentleness, and depart the room with them.

Thus you see the reason why you are all in my debt. The Crystal Garden is… what is your word for it? Nursery, I believe. The crystals, while they are mundane and rock in their smaller stages, can be made sentient and alive by the touch of the Queen of the Sithkin utilizing a gem like this. Without them, my entire race would die. Within a time those creatures you just saw will become more workers for the clan, to continue our strength. Someday I will find one that will be different from the others, and that one will become my successor.

Suddenly, she paused in her speaking, looking the group over intently.

With the aura of the other crystals fading… one of you... Her ebony eyes narrowed searchingly, then suddenly she stood – barely four feet tall in total – and strode right up to Tide. You have a crystal not unlike ours, but at the same time… different. There is a life within, waiting, much as my newest offspring were waiting. She looked Tide over a bit more, then held out the purple crystal. Though you are not a Sithkin Queen as I, perhaps this will allow you to bring the crystal's life to fruition.

((Bah! I thought to wait for other to post, but the day being Easter…))

Tide listened to the Queen's answer and then listen to her answer Ashyana. All the while, the purple crystal she held was bypassed over the two larger ones. Suddenly, they cracked open and Tide blinked. Welp. The thought she was trying not to think actually proved to be the right thought after all. Eggs. Those crystals, despite not being technically eggs, functioned a lot like eggs. Then suddenly, the Queen would pause in her explanation and look over the group. Tide's first thought was uh-oh. Her second thought was even more uh-oh as the Queen started to address that one of them was apparently doing something.

Tide was just confused though as the Queen approached her, she took a step back out of reflex. No. The Queen was not tall, but that didn't mean she wasn't a little bit scary to the Flarean. Crystal like theirs but different? But she didn't take any...Oh! "Charlie Biscuit!" Pulling him out of her shirt, she cupped the stone in her palm. "Charlie Biscuit was...A companion of mine that when I was brought here, somehow did not have a form to take ahold of. Unlike my other companions who did find one, Charlie Biscuit went into this crystal. He would...He would talk for a little bit after that, but...He grew quiet relatively quickly. I only know he lives due to the connection in my mind with him." Seeing the purple crystal, Tide reached over for it, but hesitated from taking it. What if it didn't work? What if it just made Charlie sick? Taking a deep breath, she decided there was only one way to find out and took the crystal from the Sithkin Queen. "Is there...Is there anything I need to do other than wave it slowly over Charlie Biscuit? Like think anything or have a clear mind or?"

Everyone

Queen Ilithica didn't give any outward signs of her reaction to Tide's retreat or her hesitation, just waited with patience for her to finally take the crystal, then let her hands fall to her sides.

Think on your connection to your companion, she answered, on your love for one another, and on your desire to see him reborn.

As Tide passed the crystal over the pendant, it began to glow slowly, brighter and brighter, until finally it was like Tide was holding a small star in her palm. Even Raferties, usually well-adjusted to brilliant lights, was having to use one of his wings to partially shield his eyes but by the expression on his face he was very delighted for his friend in this moment.

After perhaps only three complete passes, the crystal that held Charlie Biscuit fractured, then cracked, then burst into shimmering dust that swirled into the air, around Tide in a joyous pace – was it her imagination, or could she hear him laugh? - then spin dancing figure eights around the room before finally splashing down on the ground before her, twirling in a mini-tornado. When all this activity finally settled down perhaps half a minute later, there, standing on delicate hooves all of four feet tall at the head plus another six inches or so for his antlers, was Charlie Biscuit!

Tide! I missed you! And with that he shoved against her, wanting to be as close as he could to his Bonded and clearly very happy to be with her once more, velvety antlers only somewhat getting in the way of his exuberance, prancing in place with pure, undiluted joy.

((Squee! I've been waiting on this since… Post #3? Lol! Oh, and though there will be more today/tomorrow on this, A New Species Has Been Unlocked – the Nadur!

And now, presenting, Charlie Biscuit! (for your convenience, Tide, I have also included below a Code so you can copy-paste for his fade and everything, in the Spoiler))

The Bond that Dances Eternal Faun Nadur, Charlie Biscuit

Speech: Italics #806A87

This has been a long time coming.

Charlie Biscuit had come to Teragaia with Tide, but an incompatibility with his new home forced the shiny into a crystal form to rest until the process that had altered all of Tide's other bondeds could be complete, present but out of reach. There likely were times of missing and longing, perhaps even doubt or fear of his ever emerging. But hope, like their bond, dances eternally, and now the wait is over!

Charlie Biscuit lost little of his original personality. He's still the same sweet, gentle, loving soul he ever was. Some might even call him naive or an innocent and not be far off the mark. He adores Tide, who safeguarded his rest for so long and patiently waited for him. He hasn't lost his love of dancing either! In fact his transformation seems to only have enhanced his capabilities. Whether slow and graceful or lively and fast, Charlie Biscuit can do them all and make up his own moves besides, which he'll happily demonstrate for Tide and their friends. Just give him a tune, and he'll celebrate with Tide til morning light!

Charlie Biscuit has a soft deep brown-red pelt the color of cinnamon, with white on the underside of his head, neck, and belly. Cheerful green makes a whirl on his shoulder and traces a vine-like line once around each front leg, as well as dances a line down his back and curls across his sides. His antlers are almond-pale, slightly fuzzy with velvet and as usual for his rank with a prong sweeping forward and one back. His blue eyes are quite expressive, and oftentimes sparkling with cheer. Quite unique among his rank, however, is the band of golden fur, as wide as three of Tide's fingers, that encircles his neck and comes down to a slight point on his chest, as if he's wearing a collar or mantle. Perhaps in a way it is a mark of honor for what he, and Tide, had to endure to be reunited.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Ok, questions may resume lol!

James was probably one of the more uncomfortable of the group. He had never met a queen or even anyone close to royalty. Much less royalty of a entirely different species. So when she asked for names and titles, it took James a second to think of a proper response. Should he lead with his mercenary background? Or military? Or both? He figured that the goal here wasn't to sound impressive. But rather denote what you were good at or what you did as a hobby.... If collecting bounties was a hobby. Some might argue that's more of a life style. He decided to just do both, after all, if it came down to it. He could just say he was good at shooting things.

Before he could open his mouth though. The Queen walked down the steps and started speaking to Tide. Well, he guessed that solved the problem. No sense in muttering your profession when no one listens. What he wasn't expecting was the sudden flash of light. He was a little to slow to shut his eyes, as a darkened bluish black mark left it's imprint. He really hoped he wouldn't have to shoot anything to soon.

After several blinks, he was able to make out the new figure that had joined them and it's outburst of missing Tide. Well, he knew nothing of what it was or how it was. Seeing as he's only knowledge on the necklace she wore was that she guarded it closely with her life. He thought it was some sort of heirloom. Or a trinket that meant a lot to her. He wouldn't blame her for that. But nope, apparently it was hiding a creature in it this entire time. Well, you learn something new everyday.

Like that the people in your party tend to have creatures hidden in their necklaces.

Though he couldn't miss the absolute joy of the two of them seeing each other. It was obvious that these two had been together far longer than he had known her... Which to be fair, wasn't long. Though even with that, this reunion had the air of a long time coming. Like two friends that swore to see each other again. Meeting up years after they had sworn that oath. It made the gunslinger smile. He kept his silence, deciding that this was a little to precious to interrupt.

Gwydion answered the Queens questions quickly, though he was a little... bored? Yeah, that was a decent word for it. Not that this situation wasn't awesome or anything. He had just been a few to many throne rooms to feel the awe of them anymore. While the queen kept a tidy throne, he had seen better. It was like listening to a song to many times. Fun the first few times... But eventually it goes back to background music.

"Gwydion, I'm a Journeyman... And as far as titles go. Pick something and I probably did it."

He wasn't expecting a response. As anyone that didn't know what a Journeyman was probably just assumed he meant some sort of mastery of a skill. Add his two blades, and you can guess what they assumed he was a Journeyman of. No one ever thinks that he means he's actually race. But that was neither here nor there. He watched the Queen hatch her eggs and tilted his head. OK, that was new. No wonder she was grateful, they weren't just protecting some resource... They were protecting kids. Well, that made him feel slightly more heroic. He wondered if that could count as he's one good deed for the day. Something told him that he was gonna have a few more to cash in before the day was through.

He watched the Queen rush to Tide, then watched as Tide revived Charlie. Gwydion had only known Charlie by name this far. He knew of the necklace, he knew it held him. Yet it always seemed to slip his mind. The bright light that emanated gave him pause. He was use to bright lights, he did shoot lightning after all. But this one managed to make him actually squint. When he blinked the faint traces of blue away.He saw Charlie, standing there in all his... Short glory. He watched Tide fill with elation at her friends revival.

Well, that was just sweet. He swore he could feel his teeth rot form the encounter. When he heard Charlie speak, he had to hide the small grin that played on his lips. He fought back the urge to comment on the situation. This was obviously Tides moment. So he would let her have it.

OK... Maybe just one, all together now.

Dawwwwww.

Tide nodded and that is what she concentrated on. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and started to pass the purple crystal over Charlie's.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Good things come in threes right? Or was that bad...Anyway, by the third time, Tide saw a blinding white behind her closed eyelids. Opening them quickly, she watched in amazement at the glowing light show. It certainly had Charlie's personality, but...Wasn't there gonna be a physical form? Or...Her question was answered as Charlie Biscuit finally took on his new form. A deer. He was still a deer but at least he knew he was a deer this time. That was...Gonna be fun to get used too. Small tiny deer with antlers.

Tears of happiness streamed down her face as Charlie pushed into her, she collapsed to her knees to hug him better and bury her face into his fur. "Oh Charlie...I missed you too! I am so glad you are back once more!"

Totally worth him almost getting eaten to have him back again. Looking up at the Queen, Tide gave her a warm smile. "Thank you...Thank you so much..." And Tide, in Tide fashion and without thinking about cultural differences, released Charlie Biscuit in order to give the Queen of the Sithkin a hug as well. Hugs all around right?

Here's to hoping that Tide lives to be embarrassed by it.

(A/N: EEEEEEEEE! I LOVE HIM KAY!!!! I actually squealed when I read him and I know I'm happy to have him back in play~ Tide is of course so over the moon she forgot about manners and that maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to try and hug the queen <.< Oops. But yay~ *dances around in excitement*)

Gwydion wasn't the only one to be affected by the scene, as Raferties was smiling so large that his expression fairly lit up, and even his wings were softly twitching with suppressed joy, a happy tear in his eyes that he discreetly brushed away (Yeah, he was the emotional sort).

Queen Ilythica stiffened slightly in Tide's embrace, and the two massive quadrupeds each took a step forward before some sort of mental command, which Banner would pick up as a burst of static interference and Korazjh would understand as a simple Stay there! that kept them in their place. She did not return the embrace - perhaps among her society it wasn't a thing? - but neither did she seem offended or anything other than patient while Tide had her understandably emotional outburst. When she was done, the Sithkin female took back the crystal and returned to her place.

I am very pleased to be a part of any life's beginning, she said regally. But unless you have more questions for me, and if exploration is your goal, then I would urge you to return to the surface above where it is safe for your kind. The tunnels are becoming more and more dangerous, it seems. After what you did for us, I would be very displeased if you came to harm within my domain.

((You are so welcome, Tide! Lol, I was so worried that I slipped too much of a hint when I asked about Charlie Biscuit and how I realized that I hadn't ever made a race for him. ;D But it seems my surprise went just as planned! *verypleasedKay*))

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."
- John F. Kennedy

For the longest while, the blind ranger just lilted in the constant resonance that came from being underground - the breath of voices, the still air, the dense rock and echoing water and subtle noises. In truth, he was mapping what could possibly be thousands of feet of cavern by tracing sounds back to their origin. This was honestly more reflexive than time consuming, but it gave him a great excuse to not interrupt all the goings on around him - that, and most of the question that he found useful, had already long been answered.

His attention immediately snapped back from the echo location of tunnel reasoning upon the mention of danger, and his curiosity poked its head joyfully, though he tried to hide the excited tone in his voice, masking the emotion with his usual, logical social stride.

"How is the danger increasing, your Highness? Is there some plight with which we could offer assistance?" The blind ranger faced the obvious sounds of the poised stance of the dignitary - a queen in this case - and stared blankly through her making sure she knew he was giving the due respect and attention she deserved.

The Gith had already provoked the queen into her bouts of arrogance, so he waited. Patiently, he listened to every word - every nuance. He sought to know his enemies well before he ever contemplated assault. In this case, he wasn't feeling overly threatened - in fact, he was a bit bored. Of course, then a crystal sprang to life right before his eyes. While not exactly the sort of thrill he would normally seek, it was certainly new enough to cause him hesitation.

The moment was fleeting, however, as he then took a few steps forward, about to re-provoke the Queen and possibly the countless soldiers down here who followed her lead. Before his lips would open, however, Scarheart would beat him to the punch... offering their... assistance... If looks could kill (and Scarheart could see those looks), the blind ranger might have fallen down where he stood from the glare emanating from Korazjh's face.

With a deep breath, Korazjh accepted that such a course of action might have its own merit; hidden wonders and ancient secrets and power, a group of psychic beings owing Korazjh a favor... yes... perhaps, as fun as it was to rile the Queen, earning her respect and loyalty was a better course of action. With this quick realization, his face returned to the faint smile it had been the entire time and he bowed low before the royalty before him.

"Of course we'll be happy to help - you've my blade and power to help you with whatever atrocity is threatening your way of life, as my dear friend Scarheart has implied." The Gith worked his Tower of Iron Will well, fortifying his mind from intrusion in attempts to mask his thoughts from the other psychics. It wasn't so much that he feared them delving into his mind, but in moments of brief anger, the Gith Warlord had found his thoughts would almost project like hail from a storm, forcing their way into sensitive minds. That, he definitely couldn't let happen.

As the Selu'ani watched the events take place, the proverbial hatching of the crystals (including Tidesweep's) and the further speaking of the Queen... she then heard the issue of a warning. Then Scarheart's inquiry, matching her own curiosity. She tipped her head, finding no point behind speaking up as well when the question on her mind most prominent was already asked. However... when Korazjh spoke up, she had to push down a raised eyebrow, desiring to keep her thoughts to herself about how abnormal those words seemed when they breached his lips.

This was the same Korazjh'iktha that she knew from before, yes? The snide one that teemed over with enough pride to make a Dragon put its tail between its legs and hide with the entire Elven populous to get away from him?

However, rather than drawing further attention to the oddity of his phrasing and intonation, Ashyana instead took a partial step forward to give a minor bow to the Queen as traditional to her people. "Should you have a need for it, you may have my assistance as well."

The sight of birth, even to alien-like creatures in an obscure way was a bit relaxing of a sight. Especially as the Djinn watched the thrill and happiness that filled Tide.. it was obviously easy for anyone to smile at watching the reunion of the creature with its bonded. However, unfortunately, it did not take long for Cassandra to be unnerved again as the Queen's words permeated their minds to remind them all of her connection and the apparent "danger" that existed in the tunnels. Danger? She frowned. Obviously, they all knew of those "Crystal Eaters" that had been exterminated and one could presume that there may be more somewhere... perhaps even an entire hive of them. A Queen, or ironically a King to oppose this family's leader.

Nonetheless, Cassandra shifted her weight between either foot a couple of times before she took a partial step to stand closer to her Master for comfort's sake. She still didn't entirely wish to speak, but she was willing to assist the creatures should they have any need of it... she was sure that the Queen could sense that from her mind and demeanor at the very least. That did not mean, though, that she had to enjoy the notion of creatures that could delve into her mind without request.

It's a good thing that there weren't any others in the Weyr who had psionic capabilities, right....?

Queen Illythica sighed softly, clearly distressed and not wanting to share such a thing with outsiders, but under some mental debate about it.

Normally, I would not share this information. I would simply urge you to return to your world again. But... you have defeated so many of the Crystal Eaters, and are quite skilled... Very well.

As I have indicated, the Crystal Eaters are something of a threat to my kind for obvious reasons. While the crystals we have in the Crystal Garden are just unthinking stone before they become large enough, they our the next generation of the Sithkin, and thus are priceless. We have had conflicts with the Eaters for some time, but it was never as bad as it has become. Only the foolishly young, or the desperate and old. Perhaps once a Queen-cycle would there be anything like you yourselves witnessed, yet that was the fourth I have experienced. Without your intervention, the results would have been devastating to us, perhaps fatally so. The Crystal Eaters used to be content in their deeper burrows with more mundane crystals, things I believe you call quartz and amber and sapphire and the like. But now they rise to our level in increasing numbers and frequency. The only cause I can fathom is that something has driven them here. They are clever creatures, but not sentient like we are. They are controlled by instinct - eat, reproduce, survive, and little more. Some force is either controlling them, or has simply caused them to flee from it and they have by a matter of course ended up here. I sent some of my strongest warriors down their old tunnels, trying to find out what may have happened.
She paused with a shudder, glancing them all over and especially Kor and Tide with Charlie. I sense strong telepathic strings from all of you, and especially between you and your returned companion. Such exists between the Queen of the Sithkin and all her people. Thus it was very painful when I felt their strings cut. In short, something killed them. What did it, I do not know, for they never saw their attacker. The last thing I knew was that they were in a cavern of pure darkness unlike anything they'd ever found before, and heard movement. This is why I said you should return to your home. The underground world is no longer safe, for anyone.

Tide laid a hand on Charlie's head as the Queen spoke. At those last words, her face became determined as she looked around the throne room once more. To lose those you had mental ties with...It was hard. Almost unbearable depending on how those ties were separated. Squaring her shoulders, she looked at her group. A couple had already spoken up and while Tide had been on the fence, that last comment from the Queen had decided for her.

No one deserved to live in fear. Besides...She owed them.

"Then what will become of you? This is your home and if it is not longer safe for you as well...Where will you go?" She wasn't expecting an answer to that question. She suspected she already knew. "I will join my companions who have said they would help you with this threat. I know not what I could do to help them, but I will not leave this place knowing that you face danger here yourself." She gave the Queen a wry grin. "It is not my style you could say."

James listened to the group decide what they were going to do. It seemed like the clear choice was already there. Besides, he had taken contracts that seemed just as hopeless and scary before. Whats the difference between this and another?

Possible and horrible death in a dark cave?

Semantics! Besides, it probably didn't look good to be the one guy to say. "Nope, I'm out. Good luck with what ever is killing your unborn children!" Yeah, that seemed rather cowardly. James was a lot of things. But a coward that turned from a fight? Nope, not today at least.

"you got my guns and wit as well." He said, stepping forward.

Gwydion was going to do this whether or not the rest said something. One, he didn't like the idea of something like that floating around under the library. That seemed like a real bad idea. Two, things that attacked defenseless children was pretty high up there on the list of things that deserved to die.

Lastly? This sounded way to fun. The Weyr seemed to never be short on fights. But this one seemed particularly fun. There was no way he was gonna miss out on fighting something like that. It might even prove to be a challenge!

"You got my speed and blades. And my witty comedy and sarcastic quips. And my rugged good looks, and my... You know what? The list goes on. Let's just say I'm in."
