"Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing." - Abraham Lincoln
Ahh, a Shadow Dragon. They were naught but myth in the world from which Hren hailed. Bedtime stories told to all the denizens of the world about the wicked ones that lurked deep beneath the earth and stole away children who stayed awake after the sun went down. The adults spoke of how the black mist that surrounded the beasts was comprised of the souls of the children taken by the abomination, protecting it from the light above. Now, Hren was faced with the very dangerous reality that this thing was real. How much of his old legends were true, and how much were simply folk tales? Only one way to find out, he decided with finality, before his mind snapped back to the reality at hand.
Scarheart wasn't a defender. It was hard enough to keep himself alive while being unable to see his assailants - the ability to predict an enemy's movements, as well as the target's, just wasn't a clever approach, nor a realistic one. So, it was offense once again for the blind ranger. A nice shiny silk rope produced from his bag would find its way into his left hand, while that familiar hunting knife would occupy the right. He had to play it smart and cautious - there could be no mistakes in a fight like this.
"Korazjh - please, protect them."
Hren rushed straight at the beast's face, going as low to the ground as he could run so that if the dragon wished to use its legendary breath at the ranger, it'd be shy a few targets from the angle. His keen ears would listen the whole way for the inhaling sound that would accompany such a power, and hoped his reflexes would be quick enough. His goal? To run right up the creature's body, under the head, around a limb, and to scale the arm right up and under the wing joint. He'd use the creature's own strength to speed his ascent and hopefully, get a knotted end of that rope over one of the wings at the base where it was narrow. From there, it'd be a simple matter of scaling the rest of the way onto the back, tying the rope around the wing, and rushing down its back toward the tail. The dagger, of course, was there to slice at any of the dragons limbs that would try to get in his way, or dismount him from his perch.

"Oh why not." The Gith Warlord scoffed at the dragon before him. "Another dragon. Red dragons, blue dragons, green dragons, shadow dragons - you're all the same. I will say you have one thing going for you, though - that breath is unforgettable. You smell like rotting cave fungus." Was it really wise to taunt a dragon? To feign superiority to such a massive beast? Who said Korazjh was feigning - his kind enslaved the mightiest dragons of their known worlds and treated them like humans treat mules. There was a genetic hatred of the winged kind built into his very coding, and he was damn sure going to play off of it now.
~*~The Blind one wants me to protect them, he shall have it.~*~ With his words of vicious mockery at hand, his mind raced to shape his own body through psychometabolism, making his skin as hard as stone. It was the first step of his preparation, and with all hope, the dragon would find him the perfect prey, buying time for the winged one to 'happy shiny' and the flighty one to... well, make things cold. Stepping forward dead center before the dragon's gaze, the Gith, his flesh shifting to that of stone in seconds, would just hold his blade lax at his side, and stand ready to face the worst the dragon had to offer.

As Raferties' spell managed to even the playing field before them all, the Selu'ani locked eyes with the Shadow Dragon. Perhaps it wasn't the wisest of notions, but she did it nonetheless as a habit to gauge the intellect of her foe. It obviously held much intellect, especially since it spoke and was attempting to threaten the Queen's people. Any threat of the Below was a threat of the Weyr's, as well, so Ashyana felt that it was only right for them all to be working towards this goal at hand.
To her side, she noticed the movements of the others... then she saw Scarheart rush forward. His words echoed faintly in her sensitive ears briefly before she took them to heart. Had he just asked Korazjh'iktha for assistance? And he listened? The Selu blinked a couple of times, then snapped herself out of the faint shock that overwhelmed her. Before she could take a single step towards the beast, the Githyanki chose the perfect phrasing to taunt the Dragon.
"What are you attempting to do, rile it?" Her words slipped out as she passed Korazjh's poised frame on her way darting towards the Dragon, her eyes still locked on it's. She was hoping that with the words of the Gith, she would remain at the lower spectrum of its ire so that she could get around to the left side of the beast. From her experience fighting larger creatures, it was always a good idea (especially with Dragons and their notorious breaths) to avoid remaining in the same general region as other combatants.
She wasn't going to risk its irritation yet with any blows upon its hide. No, she would simply maintain patience on her side and allow the Dragon to make its motives known.

Tide didn’t know it at the moment, but her actions actually did have an effect, a profound one. By taking position closer to Raferties, she without words spoke to one aspect of his nature, his very being, that oftentimes went forgotten even by those such as his Brother. Raferties was above all else Firstborn of the Guardians. Guardians angels, whose sole purpose was to defend others. Raferties knew that Tide had less combative experience than others, and that steeled his own resolve to not waver in his concentration, to hold tight, because if he failed the consequences for her would be quick and brutal.
**Raferties may now take FOUR hits before falling unconscious!**
James’ flashbang spun through the air, and the dragon laughed. What a pathetic little thing, that tiny canister. What could the man think it would do against his thick scales? Then it went off, and the beast howled in pain and fury as no amount of scaling would protect his eyes. For a moment utterly blind, how ironic, it could only flail about in a rage, lashing with wings and tail and snapping teeth.
Giving this, while it heard the lightning coming, it was utterly unable to move quickly or correctly enough to dodge all of the bolt from Gwydion. While simple happenstance spared the beast’s face, his left flailing wing suffered for it, membrane shredding to tatters over much of the appendage and drawing forth another roar.
With Scarheart and Ashyana both moving forward, the dragon managed to shake most of the spots dazzling its eyes to see somewhat across the battlefield. Wanting to be rid of this threat as soon as possible, and none too pleased with Korazjh’s insults, the beast stood squarely facing them and braces itself, drawing in a deep breath. Trying to forestall whatever it was about to do, Banner sent a wave of fire from his flamethrower at it, and though the creature - motionless in body as it prepared the assault - was scorched it wasn’t enough to stop the dreaded Breath Weapon from spilling forth from its mouth. Let those who ran to the side slip free. Who cared about the one who ducked low in his charge. Destroy those who clustered within the area first, including the loud mouthed one, and then finish the rest at leisure.
A cone of raw darkness laced with the most fearsome things from the shadow realms spread out in front of the Shadow Dragon, raking over Korazjh, Raferties, Cassandra, Tide, Gwydion, James, and Banner. A dire chill would wrap them all, like standing in the frozen poles in the dead of night, accompanied by the unnerving whispers of things that simply should not exist in the world.
Speaking holy words, the shadow would gloss over Raferties, destroyed by the Light he was channeling and the very power of the Sun keeping him warm and safe. Seeing this, the Shadow Dragon roared once more and spun, lashing out at the angel with a powerful tail slam.
And it hadn’t forgotten Ashyana or Scar, either. One claw raked out for the elven warrior, and the untattered wing tried to bash the blind woodsman to the ground.

Ok, a lot going on here.
For the breath weapon, you may choose whether your character Saves or Fails against it. I chose who was hit based purely on who did not specifically say they were doing something to avoid the breath, or moving to one side of the dragon.
*If you choose to FAIL, then you take damage from the cold, are slowed, and the phantom voices will hinder your attacks for one round though you may still try to take them. HOWEVER, those that choose to fail will gain a bonus at the end of the Adventure.
*If you choose to SAVE, then you take a little damage, are not slowed, and may disregard the phantom voices you hear.
Choose as you will!

Score one for Tide for doing something right...Even if she will never know or understand what she had done. And score another one for looking right into the flash bang as well as it went off. That had to be the smoothest thing Tide had ever done in a fight. As well as the most stupidest as she once again rubbed at her eyes to flick away the dancing spots. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as what the shadow dragon had to deal with. Since you know. She was by Raferties and he was a living lantern at the moment so it could have been a lot worse.
Though she gained her sight back just in time for that lovely breath weapon to blow over her (and of course, by lovely, I mean hideous).
She froze. Froze in place. Froze in time it seemed like. Froze like she did all those years ago. When the...No...Was those voices? Voices in her head? She covered her ears and made herself into a small ball, eyes squeezed shut. No. No. They couldn't exist. They were...Were whispering things on the universe should know. Things that people who weren't infinite should know. She raised her head to look at the now crippled dragon, the chill still keeping her in place as it felt like her muscles were frozen in place.
Those whispers were still in her ears as she noticed that tail coming for Raferties. She should stop it. The voices whispered it was pointless. Their master would win. She would die. He would die. Everyone would die.
The voices whispered to give up now and it would be quick.
Tide...Had never been good at listening to the voices in her head, but these...These were so...Soothing in a way. So right. They couldn't win against the dragon. They would surely all die. They would...They would...
"GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"
Her voice sounded far off and quiet to her as she forced herself to move. To act. To do something to spite the voices. Charlie Biscuit. Sinet. Ayiama. Lenaarth. Annabeth. So many others. If she died here...She couldn't leave them. She wouldn't do that to her companions to say nothing of her friends. Khareesh. Keldos. Anari. Not to mention the countless others she wanted to be friends with.
So no. She would not be giving up silly voices and you can go back to the nothing from which you came. Least that is what she thought as she tried to move to block that tail from doing a full attack on Raferties. She wasn't delusional. She couldn't stop it fully, but she could at least take the blunt of the damage.
If she could just focus and move fast enough that is.
(AN: So...Tide failed as I really couldn't see how she would save on this XD Doesn't stop her from trying though. So she is gonna try to be a cushion for Raferties against that tail attack. Key word: Try.)

James grinned as he watched the dragon recoil from his grenade. "Ha! Bullseye!" or more specifically, giant shadow Dragons eye. James was not one to split hairs though. He reached for another shell, He wasn't sure what to use. Bullet's were gonna be next to ineffective on this thing. Though like the beetles, eyes seemed to be a pretty good place to start. he's mind was already racing, already plotting out the next few moves. He's chess game had just started.
He was snapped from his thoughts when seeing lightning tear apart the things wing. Well... Maybe this battle was gonna be that bad after all. Then the breath came. Of course it could shoot something from it's mouth. James should of expected that. It was a dragon after all, fire breathing and dragons go together like chocolate and marshmallows at a campfire. His hand reached for his fire suppressant rounds. If this worked on a Manticore once, it should work on a dragon. He watched the black shadows roll from it's mouth.
That was different.
No time to react, no time to move. Let's just hope it didn't hurt to much. The shadows wrapped around, it felt like the coldest winter night had come. Nothing but black filled his vision. Odd voices filled his ears. Speaking languages that couldn't make out but also understand entirely. He fell to his knees, wrapping his jacket around him to try and gain any warmth. He swore that being dead was probably warmer than... This. The voices pressed the advantage. He heard whispers form his past. Images of his old squad flashed before his eyes. The whispers laughed.
"You could of saved them"
"Sh... Shut up!" He yelled back, shaking the thoughts from his head. He needed to get a hold. Whatever it was, it had him. That didn't mean he was useless though, he needed to do... something. Anything. He watched the tail swing towards Raferties. He could see! If he could see, then he could shoot. That was all he needed. He watched Tide place herself between the tail and Raferties. She didn't think she was gonna stop that... Right? It looked like she did. Well, points for bravery at least.
James reached for his grenades, gotta be something for stopping giant tails swinging at your comrades. Right?
"You'll miss anyway."
"I said, shut up!"
James gripped a concussion grenade, meant for impact damage and nonlethal stunning and takedowns. This meant that Tide and Raf would be spared and shrapnel or heat from a real explosion. And if he could aim well enough. get out unharmed.
The trick was just shooting straight.
THUMP!

Gwydion let the after shock of his Ether roll off his sleeves. "That... Was ... AWESOME!" What was not awesome was the sudden blast of dark and cold. Gwydion was no stranger to Eldritch knowledge. He never dabbled in it. But one a few to many cults later, and he might as well be a expert in the subject. That didn't stop him from falling for it, despite knowing the trickery and lies, he felt dread build in his stomach. Cold wash over and ice his veins. HE ignored the voices to the best of his ability, yet the pestering things refused to go away. He ignored the images flashed in front of him, friends he'd lost, people that he cared about that had met unfortunate ends. He focused on moving, he's legs felt so slow. Everything about him felt slow.
"Move... MOVE!" He yelled at his own feet, which sluggishly complied. this was worse than just using up to much Ether. He drew Dromonem, then Groundbreaker. He was gonna rip this dragon apart for this. Nobody takes Gwydion's speed and gets away with it. He watched the creature tail whip towards Raf, Tide jumping in the way and James firing towards it. Well, he hoped they had that in hand. He had bigger fish to fry. Or electrocute and maim horrible. Gwydion dashed for the dragon, slow or not, he was cutting this thing down to size. Dromonem humming with energy and Groundbreaker gaining in weight. He rushed towards it's back leg, aiming for where he'd guess a Achilles tendon would be on a dragon. And went wild with his blades.

((This is a public apology to everyone involved in my Adventure. The due date slipped by me. For this I am very sorry. I will call in my waver, and post before the 15th, which is the technical week mark from when I should have posted. I suppose Dragons + Anni thread = this flying under my radar. Also, since I am having to backdate myself, I'll forego any points I would have obtained for IC posts from running this. Again, you have my apologies.))

As the events unfolded before the Selu'ani, time seemed to slow to a crawl. It was not that reality had slowed as any spell might have been capable of and she was obviously not caught in the breath of the Draconic Beast, hindering her movements with the magic involved in that. No, it was much more of a perceptive nature of her people, allowing her to analyze the battlefield at such a speed that it allowed her to feel as though time was sludging by. Thus, she was more than able of noticing the movements of the neck curling, the head arching and lowering with that wicked maw gaped and ready to release the conical shadow upon the remainder of her compatriots left behind in the entryway. Ashyana, unfortunately, knew that there was little to nothing for her to do for them, so she continued with her initial plan, darting around to the far side and waiting.
The breath filled that section of the chamber and as quick as it had come, the Dragon was turning its gaze to the Elf, its wing flicking out towards Scarheart and claw extending to impede her own movements. Her mind's eye still moving much faster than the battle around her, Ashyana dropped to a knee as to allow additional stability to the encroaching attack, her katana still sheathed for the brief moment. Then the impact came. Those elongated, razor claws could have dug at her flesh and cloth, no true armor to stand in its path and hinder it from rending her body asunder since she had not even attempted to get out of the way....
Except she had Korazjh'iktha to thank. And she knew it.
She used the kinetic barrier that he had placed just moments before to lure the Dragon's attack close and sure, as to make her attack close and sure. The impact did cause an effect, at least, as rock and dirt flew to either side, her body sinking a good couple of inches into the ground as an ovular dent appeared perfectly surrounding her. Before the Dragon's extended limb could retreat from the failed attempt on her life, Ashyana's katana was removed finally from its resting place.
It was never a question, in the faintly arrogant mind of an Elf, of whether or not a Selu'ani's blow would strike deep. They were too assured of their craftsmanship. Especially if the Elf made the blade themselves. A katana was never at fault because it couldn't be.
However, anything could disturb the accuracy of a particular impact, causing it to not hit appropriately, slide against the hide of a beast, or even miss altogether. Additionally, bone could get in the way of things and sometimes the Selu, faintly weaker than some other warriors, wouldn't add enough pressure to the blow to cause the hindrance to be passable. In this case, Ashyana was fairly certain that she had factored in all of the intricacies of the strike as her katana sliced along the underside of the extended arm in an attempt to weaken its future blows, if not utterly impair the Dragon.
Let's see if an Elf's arrogance is stopped short by the hide and bone of a Shadow Dragon.

So. That was not exactly what she had hope would happen.
As the inky swath of darkness washed over the group that had remained clustered just a tad bit too close, apparently, Cassandra could feel it stretching out quickly towards her where she was channeling her spell. She didn't have time to bring up any from of mystical protection or to push away the voice that murmured in her ear, though that was the only thing that managed to penetrate her normal defenses. Perhaps during a normal instance, she could have potentially felt that freezing burn of another individual's magical chill... but when she was in the middle of a spell.... revolving around ice? Yeah, it actually felt rather nice. In fact, she was rather pleased that she was suddenly enveloped in the cold as she began to pull from that magic, as well, to help magnify her spell.
Then there were the voices. Oh yeah.
"Get out. I've no time for you.." Her voice was a whisper as she continued to channel the spell, her focus being split causing her to slow her efforts, much to her annoyance. "I said OUT! I won't go back to the dark!" This time, her words were louder, though (thankfully for her) not heard quite as well since it seemed that she wasn't the only one talking back to the mocking intonations. The shadows had never been friendly to one who had a faint issue with dark spaces.
One hand reached the side of her head and she growled, a pulse of frost shooting out in a couple feet of a circumference around her, causing the ground to be utterly encased and frozen solid.
She had slowed her spell from the horrid nature of that breath... but she wasn't about to let it stop her. Cassandra could take her time as long as the others could hold their own. She was greatly anticipating the chance to show the Dragon what the true cold felt like. The spell had began to take shape around her, creating a turmoil of wind and frost in a mild cyclone that surrounded her legs, slightly obscuring them from view. Her skin was almost utterly dark blue with swirls and veining of white dotting here and there, the grey of her normalcy completely obliterated for the time being. One hand remained on the side of her face, trying to ignore the wailing voices in her mind as the other stretched out towards the beast, her focus finally beginning to reach the peak of its magnitude. Droplets of ice clung to her like, reflecting the bits of light that still radiated off of the angel standing mere feet away from her.
Only a few more moments and her spell would be ready.
OOC Well, it's up for you to decide if that counts as Cass 'failing' the breath save. I find that it is her failing it because I can't see reasoning in the slightest for her to take damage from cold when normally she's immune to it and is also in the middle of a spell. If her not taking the damage from the cold makes it so that she didn't take enough hindrance from the breath, so be it =)

While Raferties himself hadn’t been directly affected by the Breath, he felt Tide freeze in place, then jumped in surprise when she cried out. Instantly the words to a prayer to hopefully counter the darkness sprang to his mind, but before he could consider whether or not to utter them and risk losing his concentration he spied the tail aimed right for him. No time to evade or brace! Then the woman at his side courageously jumped between angel and assault. The Lorekeeper, for all his experience, could hardly believe his eyes! Here she was, smaller than he was by a good eight inches easy, not combat trained, unarmored, trying to take the hit for him! Not that he would have a moment to express his regard for the action before they were struck, tail slamming into Tide with a sound akin to an explosion and bashing her back into him. Feathered wings wrapped around Tide on reflex, trying to shelter her in turn as they were both flung back and to the ground.
But wait! That explosive sound wasn’t from the impact, at least of draconic appendage hitting the pair. It was James’ grenade colliding with the Shadow Dragon’s tail and detonating, creating a counter-force that had landed home, by design or fortune (or a healthy dose of both!) just close enough to throw off the momentum of the strike, but far enough away so that aside from perhaps a ringing in the ears and maybe a temporary heart fluttering both Flaerean and Solarian were unharmed from it. Thus aside from being slightly winded and a little bruises, with some scrapes from the rocks they’d landed against, Tide and Raferties were otherwise unharmed. Not so for the dragon, who roared and lashed its tail so hard it collided into the stone of a stalagmite and shattered it. Some of the scales, weakened by the grenade, cracked badly.
***Thanks to Tide and James’ quick thinking, Raferties concentration holds!***
When Gwydion dashed forward, the Dragon had actually had the audacity to laugh even as it continued its attacks. One little man, no matter how nice the weapons, was so much squished flesh and bone upon the ground. A casual, rather lazy swat in his direction, more for intimidation as the Journeyman had been clearly affected by the Breath, but little more. It missed by a mile. But then Banner rallied himself to send a gout of flame from his flamethrower at it, and the beast was momentarily distracted. When it looked again, Gwydion was, for a moment, gone. Then pain flared in its hind leg, making it roar and kick out in reflex as scales split and tore away, blood beginning to run from what was quickly a dozen wounds. While they were all, by themselves, superficial they rather hurt. So it decided that it would end this annoyance in a quick burst, and step on Gwydion like a bug! Watch out!
Claws paw slamming down on a foolhardy adventurer. Classic dragon move, time-tested and effective. Usually. Given the slender build fo the Salu-ani woman, the Shadow Dragon had no thoughts that this would go down any way different that the thousand other times it had done so. So when his movement was stopped without the satisfying crunch of bone or scream of agony, it was rather surprised to say the least (and its face would’ve reflected this if it hadn’t been roaring in fury and annoyed by pain from the others). It started to lift its talons to see what just had happened, when pain raced up its foreleg and it jerked fully onto its hind legs, proving just how high the chamber really was. Blood that was more ink than crimson spattered down like a small shower of rain as it shook its injured leg, which now sported a foot-long gash. Perhaps had Ashyana been any stronger, or the dragon’s scales any weaker, it may have done more. But it was annoying, and as the beast came down with an earth-trembling thud that for a moment threatened everyone’s balance it notably kept that leg up slightly, not trusting it to hold under the several tons of weight at least right away.
Ah, had the dragon known in advance that there was an icy Djinn in the company, he might have gone with a somewhat different strategy. While the chilling nature of its breath wasn’t quite the same as the icy nature of her powers (his being more a freeze of the spirit and soul than of the body), there was enough similarities that Cassandra had some resistance to it. Good thing, as being in the middle of a spell like that didn’t exactly leave room to evade. Concentration and all. But the sudden ring of frozen stone around her clarified things quite well. She was not the inept opponent he had initially thought, one to be crushed so easily. Perhaps the others might be surprised at seeing this, the true wrath and form of a Frost Djinn revealed, but the dragon was far older and more experienced, and what his eyes told him was that this one was likely going to freeze him, or at least try. The melee fighters were causing too much of an issue for him to try and attack her directly, but that didn’t mean there weren’t options still open.
The Shadow Dragon half-rose onto his hind legs again, speaking an ancient dragon tongue and gathering up magic of his own. A second later, and he was enshrouded in a deeper miasma of darkness, a shield against taking damage from magic. Spells that were aimed directly at him would be absorbed, to be released at a later point in an attack of his own. Sadly, this complex of an act meant he only had time to batter at Gwydion and Ashyana with his wings, and chomp at James, rather than a more full-out assault. It would leave the winged one alone for now, despite that blasted light!
***Raferties will NOT be targeted this round - the Dragon has other things on its mind!***
As for Scarheart and Korazjh, a wing slap as the man ran past his limb only helped with the blind woodsman’s goal as the rope caught on the joint, but it was such a small, moot thing the dragon didn’t hardly notice at all, and if there was any understanding what angering a Gith, let alone a Gith general, meant, well, it clearly cared not at all.

That's funny... and not going to help. The identity of the spell that wrapped around the Dragon was known vaguely to the Djinn, her own knowledge of magic assisting as she narrowed her eyes in the direction of its mass. No, she wasn't planning on attacking him with her magic... she had other alternatives that were much more effectual than that. With a devilish smirk, the wind that surrounded her suddenly ceased, the ice frozen midair and her hair elevated around her as if time was paused for a few lingering seconds. Then, in a sudden rush of frigid wind, all of the chill was removed from her presence, the discoloration vanishing from her flesh and returning her to a slightly paler shade of grey, and the turmoil of a wind storm that had once surrounded her coalescing into a dark form high in the distance above the back of the Dragon.
With one hand extended towards the growing shadow, Cassandra's eyes flickered down to meet the Shadow Dragon's. "This is ice." Her fingers clenched into a fist and her body crumpled, the final tendrils of magic releasing from her form as she dropped to a knee, though she wasn't the only thing that dropped.
So did the enormous icicle that had formed directly above the mid-spine of the Dragon. Icicle may be a poor choice of words... glacier, perhaps. Yes, the rather large, plummeting, hunk of a glacier shot downward at the cretin, the size of the ice mixing with the dimensions of the chamber to make it near impossible to dodge. Then there was that 'small, moot thing' that was the rope that Scarheart had draped over the beast's wing, which cinched the hurtling glacial spear as being impossible to avoid.

The Elf's keen eyes caught sight of the efforts of the frost mage, the glint of the ice apparent in its descent and Ashyana knew that she only had a brief gap of opportunity to make her next blow count. Dropping low into a forward roll, the encroaching wing buffet missing her by a mere inch or two, Ashyana regained her footing easily on the opposing side of the meager assault from the distracted beast. Little had to be done for the Githyanki to seemingly know what she was attempting and to sync easily with her, and honestly the Elf wondered if her thoughts were even her own. Perhaps the entire plan was Korazjh'iktha's idea that he had implanted into her mind with his powers. She would never know, probably.
The crunch of the frosted tip penetrating the scales of the Dragon deafened Ashyana and she ignored it, knowing that the moment was nigh. As Cassandra's weapon caught the Shadow beast's attention, his head raising either in perception or pain (Ashyana had little time to gauge what else was happening - her timing was otherwise precise), the Selu'ani felt a sudden surge of power through her. This sensation was nothing like the other bits of magic she had ever experienced throughout her entire lifetime... instead, it was more one of empowerment. Her muscles felt taut, her step lighter, and her movements even more fluid than one could ever imagine. The reason it felt nothing like magic was due to the fact that it wasn't. It was psionics from the aforementioned Gith.
With this surge of power racing through her and not to be wasted, Ashyana took quick advantage of the elevated head (and thus neck) of the Dragonic threat, the edge of her katana piercing through the darkness that surrounded him, then his scales protecting his throat. With one final step on the ground, she jumped, the blade following her movements in an upward motion that normally would not be possible for a non-magical individual like she, yet here she was doing it and quickly making her way towards the jaw of the beast.
The magical protection in place would do nothing to prevent her blow. There was no magic in her, her blade, or the psychic powers that amplified her movements and strength.

There was a ringing in her ears that thankfully blocked out the voices that she had been hearing. At least for now anyway. She wasn't sure where that explosion had come from, but she decided not to worry about it. It was low on her list of concerns. Her stomach hurt. Her chest hurt. Where she had skidded on the ground hurt as well. She felt like she was just hit by a two by four swung by a very angry batter and knocked out of the park for a home run. The ache in her torso was dull enough though that she knew nothing was broken. And she also knew that she wasn't dead by the same aches. Getting knocked into Rafteries with a tail that was meant to most likely kill what it hit wasn't on her to do list today. Nor was fighting a shadow dragon. She may have to start rewriting her to do lists so that these kind of surprises popped up less often. She had no idea she had James to thank for that last minute save though. He had knocked the tail's momentum off just enough that the worst of her injuries from the stupid (her words) feat of jumping in front of the attack would be bruises.
She thought she had still failed with her action though as the tail had knocked her back into the angel. That was the opposite of what she had really wanted and had screwed her eyes shut to prevent herself from seeing the disastrous outcome she knew was coming. If the light failed, the dragon would have the perfect advantage to attack and they had given it plenty of incentives so far. But it didn't happen. The complete darkness did not come. Her eyelids had that pink glow that comes when you close your eyes against any sort of light. The spell was still in effect!
She opened her eyes to see what was going on with the battle, fully prepared to take up watch once more only to see...Feathers. Her brain quickly made the connection that during the time her eyes had been closed and the impact with both Rafteries and the ground, he had wrapped his wings around her. Like a turtle shell she suppose. Trying to protect them both. She appreciated the action. It probably helped keep quite a few bruises from forming due to the impact.
Tilting her head up to look at him, she gave him a faint smile. "Thank you." She had meant that to come out quietly, but thanks to the ringing that were still in her ears, it came out a little louder than she had expected. Not realizing that she had spoken that loud, she paused a moment to truly make sure nothing had been broken. Satisfied that all her bones were still intact, she rubbed at her ears to get the ringing to stop. It actually worked fairly quickly and even had the seemingly added effect of the voices she had heard fading out. Either that or maybe her ears were still ringing and drowning them out while allowing her to be able to hear her surroundings.
Scrambling up just as the temperature dropped due to Cassandra releasing her spell, she offered to help Rafteries stand as well. Her eyes were trained on the dark dragon, cheering internally as the iceberg that the djinn had formed dropped from the ceiling. She saw only one way out for that dragon and that was moving forward. Right into the attacking group. Moving backwards was also a possibility, but given the size of the iceberg, Tide suspected the dragon would not clear the most important part of him in time. His head. However if he moved forward....Maybe. But that was the only way she saw for this dragon to escape the iceberg and even then, it wouldn't do the dragon any good.
Tide believed the dragon was on its last legs so to speak and that made her even more watchful. Of not only Rafteries, but anyone. She wouldn't let it get anyone in a last desperate move. She hadn't thought on how to accomplish this, but that rarely stopped her. Though sometimes, it probably should.

James grinned as he watched his grenade save the pair... Well, save was a relative term. He winced and sucked in breath as the explosion rocked Tide into Raferties. Yeah, better than a dragon tail slap. But it looked like not by much. At least the light Raf was emitting didn't seem to dim. At least he was able to actually hit the tail while being half blind and frozen and distracted by whispers. Wait.. Where were the voices? Maybe making the shot replenished his confidence or something? Eh, not important. What was important was that he could see and hear again. His focus renewed, he started to reload his launcher.
He wondered about that breath attack. Something that nasty was gonna be a problem is it decided to do that again. He had stopped a creature from shooting breath attacks before, but would that work on a shadow dragon? He looked over the battle, a distinct chill seemed to fill the air as he watched the glacier appear above.
"Well..." And he had thought his XHE's were deadly. But that was just taking it to another level. He needed to look into the whole "dropping improbable heavy things on people" tactic. At least figure out a way for him to feasible do it. Because that was just awesome. He didn't have to take a wild guess to figure out who was doing that. Cass and her control over ice made her a very likely suspect.
"Ice bullets, now that's something I want."
He's thought process was put to a halt as he watched the dragon rear back and cast it's own spell. Covering it in shadow.
"Can everything here cast bloody magic!" He exclaimed, none to happy with the sudden spell. Judging by how things were going, he wouldn't be surprised to see the dragon emerge wearing a wizards hat.
Then the dragon emerged... Or more like the Dragons mouth, open wide and gaping. Ready to make a meal out of him. Well, if ever there was a target.
"You know, I tried this on a Manticore once and it worked... Let's see if we can recreate the scenario!"
James leveled his launcher. He aimed for the things gaping maw, a easy target as ever. Steady as a rock in the face of a river. He pulled the trigger.
THUMP!
A fire suppressant round spat from his muzzle. If it didn't subdue it's breath, at least the force and taste might give to something to think about.

Gwydions blades bit, not deep, but he was satisfied with that. Any thing to make this thing know he was there was good enough. Oh, and it knew he was there, the flailing leg was evidence. He watched the foot come down on top of him. He really should of thought this through, he felt to slow to dodge it, what ever that breath was made it hard to move, or to even think.
"Not good." He muttered, everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. A giant scaly foot of doom seemed to be right on top of him. Well, if there was ever a way to die. Going out while fighting a giant dragon was up there. He raised both blades, it was a faint attempt to stop the beast. But at least it was one.
Then something snapped, something gave way. The cold, the voices, all of it faded. His eyes blazed with Ether once again. He grinned.
"You're too slow!"
He darted under the literal belly of the beast, letting his blades find purchase wherever they could. Dromonem glowed with energy as he let his Ether flow through it. Then he noticed shadows envelop the dragon. Well, he was not in a good place to be standing then. Not like it mattered. He intended to bleed the dragon for all it was worth. his blades themselves were not magical. Which meant he simply would just focus on carving out any chunks he could. He could hurt it, at least he could distract it from the others.
"C'mon! I thought you dragons were dangerous. Instead, I get a lame waste of scales. Oooh, look at me, I can spit spooky shadows!"
He yelled, challenging the dragon.

In the dim illumination of the Shadow Dragon’s cave, determining exactly what Cassandra’s[ magic had conjured was perhaps a bit tricky, even more so for the dragon himself, it being above him and all. But he believed himself safe by his own reflective magic, and almost laughed aloud as the wind and chilly coloration left the djinn, taking her in his arrogance to be too intimidated by his prowess to complete her spell. Perhaps as his next assault, he would show her some of his own arcane abilities...
Still speaking the Solarian words of his prayer-spell, Raferties could only smile a reply back at Tide though his eyes showed clearly his own thanks for her defending him, even as they glanced the woman over to assess her injuries. He let her help him stand, an appreciated effort clearly as he was feeling some bruising himself from the impact and was focusing on maintaining his chanting despite being deafened. Thankfully, he knew the spell by heart (thanks perfect memory!) and it hindered him hardly at all to simply trust he was speaking the right words. Since the light remained strong, clearly this was the case.
James’ launcher was true to aim, the fire-suppressant round sailing down into the dragon’s gullet without hindrance. The dragon could have scoffed - while yes it tasted miserable, making him jerk his head back and gag as he hastily aborted the attack - it didn’t do much more. Or so he thought. But whatever chemicals were in the round, when mixed with whatever was in the dragon’s gut, apparently caused a rather interesting acid-base reaction as the dragon gagged again and foam frothed upon its lips, spilling to the ground and causing it to shake its head violently as it tried to deal with this new problem.
Right then was when the glacier came crashing down, even as the dragon was taking a breach and starting to raise up to begin the gestures for a spell of his own. Caught utterly by surprise, the Shadow Dragon jerked, head snapping up and back like whiplash and upraised leg slamming back down, narrowly missing Korazjh, as it tried to endure the impact.
That was the moment that everything seemed to happen at once.
Banner quickly switched weapons, sending a stream of his fire retardant at one of the dragon’s legs. It wasn’t nearly a strong enough material even fully hardened to impede the dragon’s movements, but for those moments while it was still liquid-like the dragon’s foot found no purchase with the ground, making that leg buckle utterly down.
This of course helped Gwydion out nicely, as now the whole underside of the dragon was handily within reach. Dromonem found more purchase here, for though the scales were solid and strong, the swings were backed by Ether, First bits of scales rained down as they were worn away, then even a little real wounds showed. The dragon roared in fury and pain, twisting rather agility to0 the side to get that annoying Journeyman out from under his belly and out where he could eat him, once this blasted foam was out of his mouth!
Scarheart was up on the wing by this point, dagger digging suddenly into a wing joint and reminding the dragon why it was foolish to ignore any opponent in a fight. It twisted around its head to bite at him, but Scar boldly threw the dagger, aiming for the sound of indrawn breath. The blade sunk deep into the dragon’s gum line, and it recoiled head snapping back around…
...just in time for Ashyana’s leap which, with a small telekenetic boost from the Gith Warlord for a little extra oomph, took her skillfully crafted blade right into its neck up to the hilt. Sheer momentum carried her all the way across its throat, and she landed safely on the other side.
The dragon roared and flailed about, mind struggling to deny what its body was telling it: it was dying. These… these pathetic mortals had somehow, against the odds and with nothing special about them to defy his abilities, bested him. But he was going to make sure he took someone with him!
In a final act of fury and defiance, the dragon struck out with every limb he had.
He slashed with one claw at Gwydion, then slammed his shoulder into the wall, to try and simply crush Scar.
The other claw raked for Ashyana’s back, then extended out further, reaching for James’ heart..
Then a spin, and his tail came like a battering ram for Banner, Korazjh, and Cassandra each in turn.
And finally the deadly bite, his head lunging forward to try and simply swallow Tide and Raferties whole in a single fell gulp!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Ok, last round in the dragon fight! Pretty simple: dodge, get hit, or a little of both as you see fit.
Also, I am contemplating the REWARDS for this massive (far more so than I expected) Adventure,. After voicing some of my issues with Scar and Cass, I was offered this suggestion. So please PM me with your choice of the following BEFORE MY NEXT UPDATE! ((BP will be represented in RP as ‘strange gemstones’ lol!))
Reward Package 1 - Pure BP Reward Package 2- Less BP, but a Randomly Determined Shop Item of 10 coin value Reward Package 3 - Less BP, but a Special Item (RP) - this item could give your character a new power, or other such things, determined by me.

Yes! They were winning! They were winning! Tide couldn't contain her excitement as she gave a happy shout. It was a bit premature though as the shadow dragon wasn't gonna go down with out a fight. Not by a long shot. It was using all its limbs in the effort even. It was just unfortunate luck that Tide and Raferties got the head and all those lovely teeth. "Raferties! Look out!" Once again, not really thinking, she push the Angel back. Yes. She was vaguely aware that the shadow dragon probably wouldn't hurt him as she highly doubted it would like that divine light up close and personal. No. That didn't make any difference to her as her mind made the most logical conclusion it could come too.
Raferties could get the rest of them out. Tide could not. Raferties could heal injuries. Tide could not. If the dragon had to swallow one of them....Well, she sure as the universe was ever expanding was gonna let it be Rafteries.
She closed her eyes, not wanting to see those teeth that were coming. Didn't want to see the look on Raferties's face when she used the momentum from the push to propel herself backwards toward the dragon, once again becoming a barrier between the Angel and possible harm. She would whisper a good-bye and a sorry to most of her companions in case the worst case scenario happened. Which was she didn't miss the teeth and they...Well...You know. Splat.
The next thing she knew was a burning pain her leg that caused her to scream out and ignore everything else. Like the fact that she was in the dragon's mouth or that her screams were muffled thanks to the giant mawl. On the upside, she had avoided most of the teeth. It was just her leg that was unlikely. Plus, since her leg was caught, it wasn't a one way ticket down the dragon's throat....That did nothing to reassure her though as the dragon moved his head rapidly back and forth, trying to swallow her and stop the screaming. Which actually made the screaming worst.
Good job shadow dragon. Good job.
(AN: So um...Tide kinda got eaten? Kinda <.< But I think we all kinda saw it coming...She jumped in front of the tail so why not the mouth too? But yeah. Hope if was okay to have the dragon shake its head. After all, its food just started screaming and she is stuck in its mouth so there is the swallowing and breathing factor there...Anyway! Awesome battle~)

James sighed with relief as the dragon paused its attack. Even felt a little proud. Not many people got the opportunity to fire extinguishers down mythical creatures throats. James had two. The odd way life works out, eh? He watched the dragon spit foam from its mouth. That was a little added touch. He didn't know what was exactly in a dragon's stomach. But by evidence of that foam that it was spouting. It didn't mix well with his bullet. He watched the creature spasm and attempt to kill his fellow compatriots. Well... attempt may not have been the best choice of words here. He watched in horror as the creature practically swallow Tide.
"Son of a..."
He never got out the last bit, a claw aimed for his heart brought him back to reality. Can't help anyone if your dead. He threw himself aside. Mind racing for a way to win here. The dragon was going to die. But Tide being in his mouth was something that needed to be fixed pronto.
Only, there was that pesky claw. Seems like it had other ideas for James. While he had successfully made sure it was going to stab him in the heart. Only to ensure it was gonna rake his entire torso. Bright lights flashed before his eyes as he learned a new meaning to the word pain. Those lights were followed by pitch black as he crashed to the ground.
The pain in the side of his body told him he was still alive. The sticky wet feeling that was starting to cover his entire torso told him that he wasn't going to be doing much but squirming in anguish. He wasn't sure where the ground was. Only that he had to hit it at some point. He wasn't sure if he had landed on his side or was lying flat. The idea of moving seemed like an impossible mission. Instead, he laid there.
And made an oath to never get clawed by giant dragons again.

Gwydion blades where a storm of metal. Each swings digging deeper into the beast. He's body moved with inhuman speed and efficiency. Every strike placed exactly where he wanted. He flowed like water between his blows. Moving constantly to avoid the dragons attempts to stop him. When he saw the glacier finally come down he decided to not be standing under the beast. The claw that snapped at him was no big worry, he was fast enough to sit down, have a cup of coffee, recite the Gettysburg address. And then casual stroll away before the dying beasts claw could even be considered a danger.
That wasn't what had him worried, as he stopped at the edge of battle to watch the dying beast in its death throws. He noticed something not too great. The fact that Tide was giving the monster a rather thorough tooth exam.
Well.... That is definitely a problem.
Gwydion was there in a blink. He had to admit. Removing people from the mouth of a thrashing dragon? Not his exact area of expertise. In fact, he really had no idea what to do. There had to be something, though. Maybe... Pry it open?
Worth a shot.
He waited till he had a clear chance, holding both swords at the ready. When the mouth swung close he lashed out, hoping both blades would catch between the beast's teeth. The plan from there? Use them to wedge the mouth open and attempt to haul Tide out. Not much of a plan if he was gonna be honest. But better than nothing.
He just really hoped he didn't hit Tide.

((Apologies in advance for the Powerplaying; it was somewhat needed and I tried to keep it to a minumum.))
Banner saw the tail coming. How, sometimes the mech could be something of a mother hen, utilizing his size, strength, and metal construction to protect others. This was no exception, as he boldly tried to step into the strike to try and spare Korazjh and Cassandra. Though he took the blow across his torso with enough force to cause a fairly painful dent and a spray of sparks, it threw his back and to the ground before continuing only slightly impeded.
However, even that brief moment of resistance was enough to spare Cassandra worse injury. The djinn threw up a barrier or ice, and though it was smashed through it bought enough time that when combined with Banner’s valiant deed for her to dive to the ground. A badly jammed wrist and elbow and some scrapes would be her exchange for a rib-crushing alternative.
Korazjh, the cunning general, would simply step through the Astral Sea in a blink, thwarting the attack entirely. Oh, if only everyone could be so lucky!
Ashyana, with all the skill of a master samurai, would merely leap once more, running a dozen steps up the side of the forepaw to vault clear, landing on the other wise in a perfect three-point stance.
Those who were able to see the attack on Scar might have had a heart attack, as from all appearances the man was crushed utterly, vanishing between dragon and wall even as the dying beast’s wing snapped clean from the impact. The truth was far less horrific, though, as at the last moment Scar had dropped off of the dragon’s shoulder, taking some scrapes and piercing his leg on a sharp rock as he tucked into a gap between the dragon’s foreleg and body.
James however was far less fortunate, flung back and laid low by the wicked claws. Raferties’ gaze snapped his direction, a half-step taken to rush to the fallen gunslinger’s side to use what healing he had…
Which meant he was caught both off-balance and off-guard as the teeth snapped and Tide acted, pushing the angel back out of harm’s way at the cost of herself. The angel hit the ground hard, sliding a few feet before coming to a stop, then looking up in alarm as the dragon shook its head. A cry of denial spoken in Solarian burst from his lips, but even as he was scrambling to his feet the dragon’s head was lowering, and Gwydion was there, Dronomen between the massive predator’s jaws trying to pry the mouth open. Thankfully for Tide’s sake, between Ashyana’s devastating slash across its throat and its dying state, it actually couldn’t swallow her at the moment, so the shaking was more likely half trying to inflict as much damage as possible before its own end came, and half maddened instinct.
The Shadow Dragon’s head hit the ground with a dull thud, closely followed by its body, jaws finally going slack and releasing Tide so that Gwydion could pull her free. Her leg would be badly damaged, but amazingly it wouldn’t look fatal.
“Everyone! To me, quickly!” Raferties called, even as he reached James and fell to his knees at his side, resting a hand on the gunslinger’s forehead and beginning another complex ritual. The radius of bright light around him would change, increasing to about ten feet around him, and any who made their way within the circle of light would find that their wounds, aside from completely broken bones, would begin mending. Thankfully, call it a miracle or a rare act of kindness from the IF, Tide’s leg wouldn’t be broken, and though James would have sore ribs for a few weeks no vital organs were punctured. Banner’s dents slowly unbent at even just resting a hand within the light, and Cassandra’s scrapes, Scar’s cuts, and even the sheer exhaustion Ashyanna and Korazjh likely felt - whether they were willing to admit it or not - began to ease.
Sadly, to do this Raferties had to release his other spell, so only around twenty feet around him had light. But with the Shadow Dragon’s fall the otherworldly darkness would be fading, letting the glow spread further and further.
You pathetic fools! mocked the Shadow Dragon suddenly. The beast could be seen in the lessening gloom, utterly motionless but his voice still capable of being hears somehow, body dissipating into a pitch-colored mist. You may have slain me, but do you honestly believe I am the worst threat? I am but a servant, a forerunner! Banished back to the Shadow Plane I may be, but my master will ensure I return, and I will remember you all when I do. He laughed, then intoned ominously, Five pillars of darkness rise and fall, shadows encroach upon learned halls. Ending tides the shores shall break, swarms of death lives will take. And with the Immortal Ones’ demise, darkness eternal take the skies. So begins Night’s Endless reign, the sun never to shine again. Even as he almost hissed the last words, his body faded and was gone.
Abruptly the chamber became illuminated, as Raferties’ light was reflected and refracted off of the walls, ceiling, floor, and all other surfaces, as if it had been before highly polished but masked by the Shadow Dragon’s aura.
“That,” the angel said with a shudder, “was a prophecy. As Solaris’ Lorekeeper, I was charged with writing them.” The light dimmed to his usual Radiance level as his healing spell concluded, and Raferties sagged with a hand on his knee in clear exhaustion, giving a chuckle. “I apologize, but I can do no more. My strength is exhausted, but I believe the worst of your wounds should be mended. Were I a Seraphim there would be no question, but Guardian Angels of Solaris were never known for their healing magics.”
Once more, I am in your debt, came Queen Ilythica’s voice to their minds, after a brief telepathic equivalent of an identifying and polite knock on the ‘door.’ I sense the balance within my realm returning to normal, and the Crystal Eaters returning below. It will take us some time to fully clear them out but we shall. Her gratitude would be clear to them all. Know this: if ever any of you are in need, call, and we shall answer. You and yours will always be welcome and safe in our tunnels. Her presence faded away.
Abruptly, Banner picked up something on his sensors, and stood, moving towards the stone wall just beyond where the Shadow Dragon had first been laying.
“There’s something here.”
Investigating slowly (more so for some than others!) the triumphant heroes would find what every dragon kept somewhere - a horde! Laying amongst the rocks were some coins and a few interesting trinkets, a fine reward.
Gwydion would find five oddly-shaped Gemstones, and a small figurine that looked like it was carved into an animal, perhaps a horse?
James would also find five of the gemstones.
Scar would collect ten of the gemstones for himself, then gather another ten for Cassandra.
Korazjh would care little for the gemstones; of more interest was the lump of carved stone he found, one that pulsed slightly in his hand.
Ashyana would find a carving of her own practically winking up at her from the rubble.
Tide would pick up what at first had appeared to be eleven gemstones, only for one to be revealed as slightly larger than the others and glowing softly.
Banner would gather 20 of the gemstones, very carefully, thinking that some of his companions would like them.
Glancing over the figurines from where he’d sunk onto a stone, Raferties would tip his head.
“I may be mistaken, and Cassandra please feel free to say such if I am, but I believe there is a powerful magic on those stones, and upon the one you have found, Tide. Perhaps when we return to the library and a better light I can examine them further.” Slowly and with a soft grunt of tiredness, Raferties pulled himself to his feet. “Well, shall we go?”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
And the Dragon is Dead!
Well done everyone! Now just a final post to go, and this adventure will finally draw to a close. I would have powerplayed everyone returning to the surface, but I realized that A - a lot of stuff happened here and it wouldn’t be fair to not let people respond to it, and B - I still needed time to finish wrapping up the reward lol! So simply put, RP however your characters would act in the wake of the battle’s conclusion, and my final update will be the actual Reward Reveal.
