The day was perfect. Or as perfect as you could get with the sky was an ugly shade of green. Like the kind of green that tried to be bright and dark at the same time. Though thanks to the illogical field, this color actually succeed in doing so. It made Cain highly glad he didn't have eyeballs to sear with that awful tackiness on the IF's part. Didn't mean he wasn't gonna use it to his advantage though. Most people seemed to be staying indoors to avoid the color and he was taking the prime opportunity to go to the graveyard.
With a shovel.
And a list of graves whose family had already said he may use.
In case it wasn't obvious, Cain was about to go grave robbing. Though not for jewelry and expensive items. Oh no! He wasn't that kind of grave robber. He just stole bones. So he often looked for old graves, dig them up and make off with their bones. And it wasn't like he did this every day. Oh no. Just when he needed too and often with the family of the deceased's permission. He liked operating in good faith after all.
That and sometimes it helped when someone caught him and attempted to call the cops. Of course, this was before they ever got a good look at him. Can you imagine the scenario of someone finding a skeleton, in a grave yard, digging up graves? Cain couldn't either. Namely cause he didn't have to imagine something he had already saw. Multiple times. It was never a fun time to try and run away before the cops showed up. Especially if the bone you were missing happened to be a leg bone or your entire foot.
Luckily for him, it was just a hand he was needing. And while that might make shoveling a task and a half, it wouldn't be impossible. He could do it. He didn't have much choice. The magic that keep him animated didn't work so well on fake bones. As he had found out one time when he stole a plastic skeleton rib from a science classroom. They didn't have a real skeleton for anatomy lessons and he quickly learnt that the hard way when the rib kept poking him and just wouldn't shorten to the right length.
Passing Abigail's grave, he paused and tilted his head at the still fairly new gravesite. He had heard stories about her. Even though it had apparently been almost a year since she had died. She was too fresh for him still, but that wasn't why he was studying the grave. It was more to pay his respects to the most recently dead there. That and it was amazing she hadn't been up and about during the zombie outbreak a few weeks back. It was strange. She should have been, but something prevented it.
Shaking his skull, he pulled his hat down low and continue on his path to the back of the graveyard and therefore the oldest graves there. At least the reason for them not rising up with the other undead could be explained. It was hard to animate something that didn't have muscles anymore and was quite possibly dust.
He should know.

Undeterred by the color of the sky for obvious reasons Rune was out walking about to stretch his legs. While his usual walking companions accompanied him the little firelizard was tucked quite safely away inside the loose fabric of his shirt. Actually having sight the color of the sky was actually disturbing to the small artistic thing. The gargoyle meanwhile did not seem bothered. Having been around long enough to see all manor of strange things that the illogical field could throw at them, thus entirely unfazed by this new development.
Finding his way along the path he made his way to the graveyard. It was someplace he had found at the end of his walk the last time and he had wanted to go back to visit it again when he was not so tired. Perhaps it was the quiet calm that came with such places, or paying his respects to the dead of this land. But he enjoyed the atmosphere as he walks along paths between the graves. Eventually reaching an older part of the graveyard. More plants grew there and debris had gathered in stray corners around the graves. It was not long before he found himself carefully cleaning the stones. Though he did not entirely tear up the plants, instead he pulled them away from the font and relaid them elsewhere so that any names or dates might be visible. The letters held little meaning for him, but he could feel them in the stone, shallow after years exposed to the strange environment.
There is someone here with us.
The forewarning had him stall for a moment, cocking his head to listen for someone beyond his own ability for sight. Indeed he could hear someone walking around not to far off, shifting through the older graves where Rune was kneeling. Perhaps it was someone coming to pay respects to a family member or friend laid to rest there.
"Hello there! Good afternoon. I think its afternoon at least..." He had somewhat lost track of time, surely it was not morning anymore? It was hard to tell when he could not see the exact position of the sun like others might, nor had a watch to read.
(Gosh im sorry that took so long.)

Cain will admit he wasn't expecting anyone to be in the graveyard, let alone the oldest part of the graveyard. He will not admit however to the fact that he may had jumped a couple of inches when Rune called out to him. Part of his ideology was to show that nothing could startle him. Even when it obviously has. It was not so much image as it was well...Reputation. If you had a reputation for being un-scare-able, most opponents tend to give up before a fight even started. Sometimes it saves just a bit of a headache. Sometimes. Most of the time, it just caused them to try and run away and then Cain still had to chase them down.
Quickly recovering from the start though, Cain looked over where the voice had come from and blink. Okay...Spirit. Possibly a true spirit. Checking what he knew on those beings, Cain decided it wasn't a lot and made a mental note to not anger this one. At least Cain was ninety percent sure it was a spirit or a true spirit he was talking too. He was still getting used to how his sixth sense was both heightened and less accurate. Even if it wasn't so sensitive, the horns and tail would have given it away.Well, at least given away that he was talking to something that was most likely supernatural. At least to him. For all he knew, he was talking to a native of Teragaia and horns on humans weren't all that unusual. Making sure his hat was still pulled down, he looked up without actually looking up. The nice thing about not having to relay on eyeballs for sight. You can look behind you or up through a hat, while still keeping your eyes staring straight ahead. Made sneak attacks nearly impossible.
"I think it is afternoon as well. So long as the sun is still rising in the east and the illogical field hasn't suddenly changed it to the west. Or the north. Or the south. Or rising straight up from the ocean only to sink back down into the ocean. I swear, I don't know how you guys deal with that thing! I've barely been here a month and I'm already fed up with it!" He wasn't gonna mention the shovel. He wasn't even gonna attempt to hide it behind his back either. That would just call attention to it. While he had no idea that Rune couldn't actually see the object to begin with, he still knew if you move something, people are more likely to catch it. Or notice it. That and it would look like he had something to hide which is the exact opposite of what he wanted it to look like. So the shovel remained in view so to speak.
"What are you doing out here if you don't mind me asking? I would have thought the sky would have kept most people away." Not that he minded in the end. He could always come back to the bones. He would just have to wait is all.

"Ah. Well then yes good afternoon. Though I can not really answer that second bit. I am still getting used to it as well, I have only been here a couple of weeks. A lot of it still trips me up quite badly." Literally trip sometimes as well when things decided to suddenly be there or to suddenly disappear on him. While the other was not quite close enough for him to see properly the little firelizard poked her head out just long enough to arrange a mental picture for him.
"I just decided to take a walk really, ended up cleaning up some of these older stones, I thought it might be a nice sign towards the dead." Smiling sweetly he simply shrugs and continues. "The sky does not really bother me, I can not see it after all. My way of getting around works just as well no mater what color the sky has decided to be today." It was one small advantage to his limited vision. Such things did not deter him from the things he liked to do. "What brings you out here today, if it is alright to return the question that is."

"Glad to know I'm not alone on that front." Then Rune mentioned he couldn't see the sky and that threw Cain for a bit of a loop. "Can't see huh? How do you get around then?" Then he noticed the firelizard and had to figure that would make sense. Seeing eye firelizard. For when seeing eye dogs were unavailable/could not protect you from the wrath of a dragon. Not that a firelizard could do much either, but at least they could gather en-mass and distract.
"As for what I'm doing here. I'm looking for a hand." Might as well be honest. He didn't even have to debate with himself about it. Being honest was always the better route he had learned in his long life. It saved explanations later and nine times out of ten, most people thought he was joking. At least where he came from, the supernatural wasn't really believed so most people just assumed he was joking. Even when he wasn't.

"I have a different way of 'seeing' that does not use my eyes. But I also have my friends here who help me around when I need it." He was certainly never left totally in the dark anymore with them in his life. They made everything both easier and more pleasant at the same time.
"A hand? Oh, you are looking for help? What is it you need help doing. Perhaps I might be of assistance." He enjoyed being helpful after all, just because he just met this man did not mean he would like to help any less. If it was something in his range of ability it was no trouble for him to do it. After all he had only been wandering around and clearing off some of the older graves on a whim. It was not like he was busy with anything in particular.

The opening was too great for Cain to pass up. Really too great. Good thing he had practice keeping a straight face. Otherwise he might not have been able to get the words out of his mouth. "A need a hand to find a hand." That was it. That was all Cain was really gonna say. Even if he wast he only one to get it and was laughing internally.
And then Brains poked her head out to see what was going on before giving a yawn and scampering down to investigate Rune and company. Did you have shiny? She wasn't gonna ask for shiny, but she would look for it. Chittering all the way. "And do be careful. You have Brains by your feet."
Good thing not all of Cain's companions were named after body parts....Now there was something. Maybe a note for future reference.

That left Rune rather confused. A hand to find a hand? It seemed to be some sort of joke, though not one he really understood. If anything it just had him looking worried, unsure how to respond and left fidgeting in place. "I am unsure how I would help with that pursuit. Not without further instructions. Sorry about that."
This 'brain' at his feet almost made him jump until he realized he was a small creature. A very small one at that. Leaning down a little closer it was clearly some sort of weasel or perhaps a close cousin of it. It's long body and little paws giving it a distinct look. Why its name was 'brains' he could not fathom in the least! Certainly those creatures were excellent viscous little hunters even as cute as they were, but they did not seek out only brains to his knowledge.
I believe that would be a familiar. They take many forms.
"Oh I see. A familiar? Is hand another companion of yours? Otherwise I am still very much lost on that point." Certainly he could not be looking for an actual hand! That just seemed... odd. Being in a graveyard that would mean he was digging up the dead and there was something distinctly disrespectful feeling about such an idea.

Cain chuckled as Brains grabbed some grass and scampered back up into Cain's skull. "Forgive me. I tend to make a few undead puns as well as some bone ones. It helps lighten my situation some. How well can you see the world around you?" He moved closer so that Rune's companion could get a better view of the fact that he was a skeleton and translate that the blind spirit. He also tilted up his hat to reveal his face bones. "I recently lost a hand to...Something. And I need a new one. Hence why I'm here. Human bones are the best and the closer in size to the old one, the less trouble I have."
Naturally, he didn't mention he had a list of the graves whose families had already approved him claiming the bones should he need them. Naturally he didn't mention that if Rune tried to stop him, he would kindly ignored that and see if that banishment rune would work on Rune. Naturally, Brains picked that moment to poke her head out and wave. No worries! I'm lost all the time. Hence why I ride with Cain. He goes near shinies. I pick up shinies. Deposit them into his skull and away I go. I can even help him dig too if you don't want to tag along!
Perfect timing there Brains. Perfect timing.
