The night would come in peacefully for the inhabitants of Teragaia. The illogical field would even had been well behaved today. Nothing too out of the ordinary. You had your barking chickens of course and clouds the color of the sea, but other than that? Not a peep from it. No anvils dropping out of the sky. No sudden disappearances or reappearances by the people that walked through its schemes daily. Just a quiet peaceful day for once. Which made the inhabitants that much weary as they snuggled down in their beds that night. At least that had been around awhile. They knew the illogical field only held back like this when it was planning something big. Only time they had ever known it to be so peaceful one day and chaotic the next.

And boy...Were they right.

For the illogical field crept in as they fell asleep. It crept into their dreams as only the illogical field can. Maybe that is how it even got some of its ideas. By exploring the illogical dreams of the people that lived on Teragaia. But this time, the dream invading wasn't for ideas. Oh no. It was for something huge! Big! Giant! At least, in its grand opinion. The residents may have...Other, not so grand or nice words for what the illogical field did as they slept. For you see, it took an exact copy of their dream selves and placed them somewhere that was most obviously not their dreams or anywhere on Teragaia come to think of it. Luckily for all involved, as it was their dream self, they weren't in this new world in just their pjs and weaponless. The illogical field wasn't gonna be that mean and do that to them...This time around anyway. And also luckily, it placed everyone in the same general area. Give or take those one to two poor souls that got dunked into the ocean. Hey...It wasn't always that accurate with its aim. Others may end up on top of one another and some of the dreamers would now be 10 feet apart despite having gone to bed together. The illogical field wasn't terribly good about making sure people that were together on Teragaia were together here. It was just mainly trying to get everyone in one place.

And just where was here? Glad you asked! Even if you didn't actually asked. Here was a place that would be unfamiliar to all but maybe two of the dreamers. Maybe three. All depends on how much world hopping the dreamer had done before the illogical field grabbed them up and deposited them on Teragaia. For sure though, one of the people that were dropped here from their dreams would recognize this place. Granted, she would be looking about in confusion as her brain said one thing, but her eyes said another. Eventually, she would realized just what exactly had happen. Once she did though, she promptly sat down and placed her head in her hands. Of all the places that the illogical field could have taken them, why did it have to be here?

"Why illogical field? Why?" Tide wouldn't let the tears fall down as she worked to keep herself calm. She had worked too hard to escape this place. Worked too hard to make sure she never came back to this planet and its issues. Worked too hard to escape her past here. And what had the illogical field gone and done? Dropped her right back onto Flare and of course it couldn't have just dropped only her off now could it? It had to drop off the other people of Haven too. Others she had come to regard as family. As people she wanted to protect. Others she didn't want on this planet as she knew what the people here would think of them and what they would do to them. Yet, they had all ended up on Flare with her. "Oh universe...What have I done to cause you to not only punish me, but those I care about?"

What Tide didn't know was that this wasn't the same period of time that she had lived in. This was Flare's past. A past that no one from her time knew about really. A past that might actually surprise her. For now though, Tide was trying to keep calm and even while she fought to stop blaming herself for endangering her friends. It wouldn't help in the end. Wouldn't help keep them safe and that is what she has to focus on for right now. Till they can get back of course. Naturally though, it wasn't her fault. The illogical field just wanted a planet and this one looked fun...

If you count being thrown onto a planet in one of its most turbulent times fun that is.

The clearing they all landed in was a rainbow of reds and browns and oranges and purples and yellows. The purple wasn't the illogical field's doing as it was just something that occurred naturally on Flare. Though this would probably delay some people's realization that they weren't on Teragaia anymore. Thankfully, other than dropping them off, the illogical field held little sway on this planet. Drop offs and pick ups were the extent it could do here. The clouds kept the blaring intensity of the sun from beating down on the dreamers, but it was still light enough to see everything clearly. The trees where tall and thick and everywhere. The only place they seemed to not be near was the clearing that everyone was currently in. For those with good hearing or happen to fly above the trees, the sounds and sights of a faraway battle could be heard.

Which may have many asking just what had the illogical field done this time?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay! Welcome one and all to my adventure! I'm gonna have fun with this, so buckle up and hang on. Y'all are about to get a crash course in Tide's past...Well...Her planet's past, but in a way, does that not count as Tide's too? So now onto the rules
Rules:
1. All site rules apply
2. Please read this thread: Flare It will help explain a bit of what your characters might encounter/be mistaken as.
3. This is set in the past and with that...Nothing will change. Your actions will have no effect on Flare's past. Leader of rebellion is suppose to die, but you guys stop it? They will still die. Just not at that particular point. Your characters do not know this though and so will, in general, act with the knowledge that what they do will effect the past and future outcomes (unless their belief is that the past is the past and nothing can change it of course).
4. These are your dreamselves. Which means you can be killed and still be okay. You would just wake up back on Teragaia and your adventure will end there (if you don't want it to end there, just simply fall back asleep). This gives you a way out without having to just stop posting. Pain and other emotions are also dampened a bit, but can still be felt by your characters so long as they think it should hurt. Big case of mind over matter here for the most part. Any injuries you sustain however, will disappear upon waking, leaving no trace of them but in your memories...If you can remember the dream in the first place that is.
5. This is Tide's world and while she is in it, she actually does not know too much about its past. Due to the council keeping information at bay, she only knows the accepted version of the past. She also knows this isn't the case and will be getting a crash course in it just like the rest of you. That being said, she does know things and can answer questions if need be.
6. Companions are not allowed in this adventure. They don't even know you are gone technically since your physical body has never left the bed you fell asleep in. The more soul bound (familiars and dragons to name a couple), might notice, but they can't help you. Only humanoids for this adventure ride.
7. Feel free to ask me questions if I have made anything unclear. My goal is to have fun with this and iron out a few more things about Tide's world. And it gives you guys the opportunity to help me do so. Another reason why you guys can't really affect Flare's past. You are Flare's past. Time travel...Got to love it.
8. Bring as many playable characters as you like. No limit on how many characters you can bring along! Just no NPCs please. (exceptions can be made if needed though, just PM me)
9. As mentioned above, you characters will get hurt (possibly). Please PM me if there is any damage you DO NOT want your character to sustain. Otherwise, I will assume the sky's the limit and use my judgement where I see fit on it.
((Together since they're interacting with each other and the situation!))
Perhaps it was something of a reprieve for Raferties that the IF decided to snatch him up this night. The Lorekeeper had been on the first edges of a night terror, as typical of the events that immediately preceded his flight (literally and figuratively) from his home heavens. These ill dreams weren't unusual, and Belial had been helping him cope with them, but for all that Raferties knew that what he dreamed was falsehood he still saw the horrifying images. Downside of an eidetic memory, he supposed.
So to go from battle cries, hellflames and heavenly assault, to a clearing that was a veritable riot of color was something of a relief, if a confusing one.
"What in the name of Solaris..." he murmured, momentarily stunned as he took in his attire - his usual outfit - the fact that his harp was upon his hip and his satchel worn across his chest to rest upon the other, and his staff was in hand. Definitely NOT what he had worn when he'd laid down to rest.
That was when he heard Tide cry out, and his head whipped around at the sound to find her.
"Tide!" The Guardian angel was quick to her side, dropping to a knee and a hand resting upon her shoulder. "What is wrong? Why are you so distressed?"
"Little Brother!" Keldos' call came as the Archangel joined them, jogging over in full armor with a sword already in hand, having spied the scene from a few meters away. "Is she harmed?"
"I do not believe so, but something has upset her greatly." One of the silver-white mottled wings flicked around Tide's shoulders in an attempt to comfort. Keldos, meanwhile, stood over them protectively, wings flared slightly as he scanned their surroundings for danger. Thus it was that he spied the other person pulled to this place.
"Anari," he called, raising his primary wings above his head to get her attention. "Over here!"
Posted Image
Anari had a rather wet landing. One moment she was reading, on the edges of sleep, the next... splash! She landed on her knees in what tasted like an ocean, if the saltwater was any clue. She pulled herself to her feet with a grunt, finding she was clad in her preferred tunic and pants, sturdy riding boots and leather armor, with her flail heavy on her hip.
"Where am I?" she wondered, before she heard someone call her name. Looking over, she was relieved to see familiar faces in the form of two angels and a siren. With only a but more of a limo than usual, due to the jarring landing, Anari made her way over to join them.
"Do any of you know what happened, aside from the usual IF?" She took in Tide's expression and Raferties' attempt to console her with concern, one hand staying to her flail.
"My brother nor I know," the Lorekeeper offered, "but I believe Tide might." He gave his friend a hug. "Please, Tide, whatever is wrong or upsetting you, can you tell us? I truly believe that whatever threats this place holds that it should upset you so, we can handle it together."
Gwydion moaned as the sound of not far off battle pretty much forced him to open his eyes. Well, that wasn't too surprising considering where he lived. But what caught him off guard was the small fact that he had gone to sleep in a bed in a house. And while he's used to passing out in his standard clothing. He was certain that he had gone to sleep in at least a different shirt. At least.... Much less his jacket and both swords.
It was official, no more late night snacks before going to bed.
He hitched his blades up as he sat up... This place was oddly familiar. Which was a thought that he didn't have to often when dreaming. He had been her briefly, It was more like a brief rest stop than actually going and doing anything. "Wait.... Isn't this..." Tide's yelling let him know how close he was to correct.
He was up now, looking for the Tide, finding two angels and a Weyrwoman were just bonuses. "Hey! Nice to see I got some company to help along! Guess this is a linked dream or something. Or, what has lately been becoming my favorite excuse, the IF fields are messing with us." He took stock of Keldos, he was new and imposing. "Well, if I'm going to be stranded on a planet with anyone, I'm glad it's you guys."
It began, as most dreams do, in a vague way. Shadowy, blurry, indistinct, leaving Khareesh dimly aware that he was asleep, but not particularly aware of anything at all.
Until everything got suddenly very clear.
Khareesh came into sharp existence some thirty feet in the air above the clearing.
To most anyone, this would be a problem, but dropping an air genasi from somewhere high as a means of causing harm went on the list next to drowning a water genasi. List being, of course, things you can certainly try, so long as you don't mind not meeting any real success.
His descent was slow, cushioned by the foreign winds of a land he didn't recognize. And he knew it wasn't Teragaia. The wind spoke a different language, one he was unfamiliar with, a language heavily laced with pain and suffering. The world itself was awash with unfamiliar colors, but smoke, he found, was much the same, clouding the horizon with gritty plumes of terror and the realization of the worst fears of thousands, if not millions.
Thirty feet up and dropping wasn't exactly a great vantage point to tell if it was a single nation under fire or a global catastrophe.
Instinctively, the dragonrider reached out to his dragon for support, to ascertain what was going on, that all was well...
Myth! Myth, can you hear me? Where are you?
The potatoes were like that when I found them! Myth protested. The flaming cabbages aren't my fault either. Talk to the demon raining them from the sky!
...
"I suppose it's safe to suppose Myth is asleep," Khareesh muttered as his feet finally touched down, even foreign winds gentle with their wayward son. Now that he was at a normal eye level, he could see the clearing, the people in the clearing. The angels were familiar, and Tide! Why was Tide upset?
Khareesh jogged over, joining the growing party around Tide, reaching for her hand to link his fingers with hers without even thinking first.
"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" This from a lifetime veteran of the Illogical Field. Not 'what's happening', not 'where are we', Khareesh would be passing interested in learning those things, but he didn't really care. Tide was the important detail here.
Although dressed as a dragonrider of Haven Weyr, he really ought to have been looking to Anari for direction. But no, no, it was not that kind of day today.
"I'm not on Teragaia anymore, Anaeth, I know what Teragaia smells like!" Shrayla snarled aloud, hauling her soggy self out of the ocean.
That's news to me, the Green Mottle replied primly in Shrayla's head. I'll have you know you're still sound asleep in your own bed. I am looking at you right now. You are in bed and asleep.
Shrayla frowned, digging an enchanted knife out of her damp thigh sheathe and slicing a quick line across the back of her wrist. To nobody's surprise, it hurt.
"Pretty sure I'm not asleep, love."
Then something has happened that is beyond my ability to help you. Be well, Shrayla. I'll be watching over you here.
With that, the connection dimmed, as if Anaeth was resting a door shut without closing it completely. With that, Shrayla was alone.
She was armed, at least, had her North Wind Bow, her bag full of bags of holding, her basic adventuring kit, sans armor.
The Dancer's Silhouette only came out when she was in dire trouble, really. When she needed to be armored against more than the average belt knife or stray practice arrow. For everyday use, her heavy leather flight jacket was usually sufficient. Although now it was so soaked she wasn't sure she could get it off. Here's to landing in the ocean!
(Go ahead and make doggy-paddle jokes. I am too. What Shrayla doesn't know won't hurt us. ^^)
Waterlogged and heavy, Shrayla propelled herself up the beach, up the hill, until she came to a clearing that was...populated already.
"I don't know why I thought for a minute this wasn't just normal being normal," the ranger quipped loudly enough to be heard by all present, mostly familiar faces all. Particularly Keldos, to whom she nodded, but mostly Shrayla was busy trying to be aware.
With that bluerider Khareesh and both angels focused on comforting Tide... nobody was watching the edges of the clearing for incoming threats. Shrayla would leave the people-ing to the real people and play guard dog.
She un-shouldered her bow, fingers resting lightly on the string. The lack of arrows might have been a problem, except she'd paid a lot of money to have this bow enchanted to generate its own. There would be an arrow if she drew the string.
Sometimes the illogical field could be kind. As in the case of Raferties. While it might well be a reprieve from the nightmare that often haunted him, it was going to be one that the Angel might not enjoy in the end. Tide certainly knew she wasn't as she felt Khareesh's hand in hers and Raferties' hand on her shoulder. Then the questions came. Seemingly all at once that she had to pause for a second to get them all straightened out. Some of them were repeats. Others weren't. The fact that her friends were already handling this well helped to calm her down some. Though she had to work really hard to suppress the wail that wanted to raise out of her mouth as she gave Khareesh's hand a tight squeeze.
She suddenly started to laugh and cry at the same time, having lost the battle with panic, but not so much so that she was a useless mess. "Everything is wrong to answer that question. We are all on a place that we should not be on. Especially you guys." Standing up slowly so that she didn't accidentally bump into Raferties' wing, she gazed around the clearing. "We cannot stay out in the open here. It is too dangerous. A shifter might come by and spot us." Raferties, Keldos, Shrayla, Gwydion, and Anari might be able to get away with it. Keldos would definitely raise some eyebrows with the sheer number of his wings and his outfit, but most would consider him a shifter as well. Khareesh on the other hand...Would not be consider so lucky. Out of all of them, he would stand out the most as being a hybrid.
Despite the fact he wasn't even born on this planet to begin with.
"You do not know the threats that this place will throw at you..." She would refuse to let go of Khareesh's hand. Out of everyone, she was most concerned with him. If he got separated and ran into someone from the force...She didn't want to think of what would happen to him. The Flarean was gonna do everything in her power to make sure they never got the chance. Even if she did end up getting on Khareesh's nerves the whole time they were here. Better an annoyed friend than a dead one.
"Did anyone get a good look at where we are?" She was pointedly ignored the where are we questions for right now. Looking at Gwydion, she could tell he knew by the way he had looked at her. Knew exactly where they were. The smell of smoke was starting to get overpowering and then all of sudden there was a commotion at the edge of the clearing where Shrayla was currently keeping guard. Two figures broke through the trees, eyes wide as they looked upon the party. One was a red head basically, fangs showing as he hissed at the werewolf and stood slightly in front of the siren that had accompanied him. A graceful figure with light blue skin, her purple eyes immediately found Tide's as a smile broke on her face. Though as she looked at the other's around her, her facial expression quickly harden again. Both had weapons raised with the vampyre having the added bonus of a shield.
They were having a conversation that only those with sensitive hearing might be able to hear and it would be surprising.
Shhh...It is a secret, but might want to read anyway
Thankfully, just as the male was about ready to move, Tide decided to speak. She had been struck dumbfounded when the two had appeared into the clearing. Not because their appearance was all that odd. Not because they were together. No. She knew these people. Well...Knew of them and the fact that they were standing in front of her meant one thing and one thing only and it wasn't a very good thing at all.
"Where we are is the question none of you should be asking." Her voice was strong and clear, despite the tears on her face. She was trying really hard not to lose it right now. Not when she knew it was important she kept it together right now. "But when on Flare the illogical field decided to drop us." Even as Lilinum and Andreiw turned from hostile to confused.
"Meet Lilinum and Andreiw. If they are really them...Then we have just all landed in one of the most dangerous times on Flare..." She closed her eyes. She really hoped that Anari was right. That they could handle whatever Flare could throw at them cause it was about to do its best to kill them all.
Andreiw and Lilinum had the misfortune of appearing at an EXTREMELY INOPPORTUNE TIME.
Shrayla spotted them easily, creeping up on the camp and then bursting through the trees. She was willing to let them approach to a certain proximity. Mutual threat assessment, shall we say. She wanted more information on them and they...well, how they reacted to the group in the clearing would decide whether they lived or died.
But then the word "attack" came into play and Shrayla drew the North Wind. Released the string. The arrow that appeared was in Andreiw's right thigh before Tide started talking.
Shrayla cocked an ear back to listen to Tide, too, passing interested but not really surprised to learn they were apparently also time-traveling.
"Was I or was I not supposed to shoot him?" the werewolf finally asked, after a few heartbeats of silence. "Because I shoot threats. And he's damn lucky I'm trying to be a good dog, because my first instinct was to shoot between his eyes."
Flare? Tide's...home world?
And during a time she had not herself lived. A time fraught with violence and war, if he understood the winds correctly.
And then that green/brownrider Shrayla had to be herself, essentially, and Khareesh groaned.
"Can you NOT do things like that while you're dressed in Weyr uniform?" Khareesh hollered, voice just a smidge high and if he sounded on the edge of hysteria, it was because he was not far from actual hysteria. Strangely, it wasn't even himself he was worried for.
Well, it wasn't his home that was burning.
It wasn't his home!
Khareesh was one of the few people he knew of that had never been to a land that wasn't Teragaia...well, until now, apparently, but you know.
He was more afraid for Tide. This wasn't her time, perhaps, but it was her world, her origin, her first home, it was burning around them, and she... now had to face her burning home world and watch it put her friends in danger!
Although if Tide thought clinging to Khareesh was going to annoy him, she really was blind. (Said with great affection, mind. XD Khareesh is just wearing a neon sign.) If anything, it eased some of his anxieties. She was here, she was safe...ish. As well as could be under the circumstances, whatever the circumstances even were.
Khareesh squeezed Tide's hand.
"Dangerous time or not, I've got your back. Or, you know. I'll do my best to be witty and funny while people like Shrayla do the gritty, angsty things. I promise I make excellent moral support, however."
((Not going to bother with the icons at the moment, since they're all together))
Raferties stood when Tide did, aware that her mental state seemed to be a bit precarious and listening with intent to her words. Flare? Her home? Over the time they had been friends, Raferties had come to grasp that she wasn't as upset about leaving her home as some were, and thus he reasoned there was danger here. Her reactions now and her words solidly confirmed it. Keldos, for his part, maintained watchful, nodding in satisfaction as Shrayla moved off as well to help guard them. Anari too was alert to threats in as much as she could be in a new, foreign situation, so neither of them were caught off-guard when Lilinum and Andreiw appeared. Raferties, for his part, let Guardian instinct trigger and stepped a pace in front of Tide, wings snapping out to block their view of her (and this spoil any aim they might take) staff in hand in a clearly defensive position. But he wasn't about to make the first move. He couldn't hear what they said, and so could only guess their intent as Andreiw took that first step.
Keldos also moved a pace forward towards the newcomers, wanting to single himself out as the primary one to deal with should it come to blows. Anari hung back with the group, flail out as it wasn't exactly a speedy weapon to draw, swinging in an arc by her thigh in preparation.
But then Shrayla made the first move, arrow sinking in.
Keldos responded by taking to the air, wings beating and carrying him up an easy twelve feet. They didn't have wings, clearly, so he would take advantage of his abilities to control the air, and thus be able to strike from more angles. Anari, also believing that a fight was impending stepped clear of Tide, Khareesh, and Raferties and set her flail whirling. Thankfully for Tide however she recalled through a past adventure together that the woman was afraid of fire. To her surprise however, no sooner had she thought of this realization than upon the head of the flail a rune glowed brightly, and a moment later the entire weaponized end became wrapped in frost and shrouded in chill mist. Anari barely felt it, as the wielder made her immune to the flail's magic, but those who got too close would be reminded of a winter storm. Don't ask what would happen to anyone she actually hit with it!
Thankfully, maybe, Raferties was of a sound mind, and thought he was prepared he knew that further hostility might be avoided, if things were played right.
"Hold your bow!" he called to Shrayla. "We do not know their intent! Stand prepared, but wait." Perhaps a bit more wordy than his brother the High General might have used, but perhaps it would get the point across to everyone. To Lilinum and Andreiw, he said, "We mean no harm, but neither will we allow danger to any of our company. I can heal you, but only if you assure us that you mean no threat."
Perhaps it would work? As a Guardian Angel, he had to try.
Gwydion blinked at the motion of events that took place in front of him. Well... that was sudden. Two people appear, then one get's shot. A angel flies into the air, people are shouting... He felt honestly right at home. Good old chaos. Nothing quite like when there's a communication break down and people start shooting. He didn't blame any one per say. Taking initiative in a fight was the difference between dying and living. So he actually applauded Shrayla in her preemptive attack. just trying to keep them safe. He sighed as the hostilities started to escalate. He knew that this wasn't a good thing in particular... Especially if they ended up killing each other. Then no one would be happy... And he didn't really want to think on the consequences of killing two important people from this world.
He dashed between his team and the two that had made the mistake of walking into the wrong clearing. "All right! Can we not?! I'd hate to be the voice of reason... Trust me, I do. But let's calm down. Firstly, no more arrows in people. It's not a nice way to greet people. Trust me... I know..." He said, holding up his hands in a show of attempted peace. "Flare is in enough trouble at this point as it is with out us accidentally changing this past.... Or dream... Or what ever the hack we are in.... Speaking of which... This is Flare right? I mean, last time I was here. It was kinda a light stop. Though it's a little more... Er... War-y than I remember."
Andreiw let out an inhuman screech even as Lilinum quickly calculated what was going on. And boy, was there a lot going on.
First and foremost, this girl was not their daughter. The speech patterns were all wrong, not to mention the fact that she knew them by name and didn't once introduce them as her parents. That was a disappoinment and raised more questions than it answered.
Secondly, the werewolf was not the only combat ready soul in the group. The six winged shifter proved that quiet easily with his take off into air and higher ground. Which brings her to her third point.
Six wings? What kind of animal had six wings? She was starting to wonder if the wing creatures were even shifters to begin with.
Fourth point: the one with lesser wings protected Mariam....Despite knowing that wasn't her daughter, it felt easier to distinguish the red head by calling her that. For now anyway. The protection wasn't in an my prisoner sort of way, but a my friend sort of way. The body language between the two was entirely different. So maybe these weren't elite guard members?
Lastly, all the voiced calling for peace. It was enough to make the jungle take pause and appreciate the sheer chaos of it. She started to laugh, but it was more the deranged sort of laugh as Andreiw clutched his leg and was currently trying to work out that arrow that Shrayla had shot into him.
"Nay! Do not reprimand her." She gave Shrayla a wide grin, already liking her spunk. "She did right. If she had not shot first, we would have attacked. Though as she mentioned, she could have aimed in a much worse place." Bowing low, hands at her sides, she kept it long enough should anyone decided to land a blow onto her back, they would have been successful. "I thank you very much for not shoting him between the eyes. I am quite fond of him and I fear my bed would be too cold without him."
Now she held a bit more mirth in her eyes as Andreiw groaned and not from the wound this time. "Lilinum..."
"Oh hush Andreiw. Obviously none of them are from this world. If what the speedy one says is true...Well. Almost none of them." Her gaze found Tide's again as she was talking to Khareesh. Her eyes softened again. Damn...She looked so much like what she had lost and if they were from the future...Maybe there would be hope yet.
"Thank you Khareesh." Tide would give him a small smile even as Lilinum moved through the group to stand closer to Raferties. She would keep her hands visible and away from her weapons. She meant peace now and wasn't gonna incite their rage once more.
"Aye strange shifter. We mean peace for now. Till we can get a better idea if you mean us true peace or not that is. Forgive us, but as your friend has pointed out, there is war going on and you are new and look too much like our enemies..." She paused as she puzzled over the fact he was offering to heal Andreiw and it didn't sound like he was gonna put a band aid on the wound and kiss it better either. "Please...Heal him and we will lead you to a safer place. So long as you are with us and we encounter members that are fighting for our cause, you will be safe. If however we encounter the enemy..." She stared at them all, her gaze hard. "We are enemies to you. You are outsiders. I will not drag you into our world like that. Not till you know more. Do we have a deal?"
Ah! So the pair were lovers, if not spouses! That much was quickly filled away into the Lorekeeper's mind, even as Lilinum drew closer. Keldos, realizing that this was a moment to yield to a Guardian's forte, remained airborne but descended to around four feet up, wing cadence giving him a motionless hover save for said wings.
"I am merely thankful that no aggression escalated," the defensive angel replied, slowly lowering his staff to an upright but "at ease" position. "Though I do not understand your term for myself, our coming here was not of our own doing. We know little of your war, aside from our friend, and claim no part of it at this juncture. However, were our roles reversed, I do not doubt we may have acted much as you. Until otherwise, all is well between us." Raferties turned his gaze to Andreiw. "I well gladly heal him, though I warn I must touch him to do so." When he was certain of their ok for this, Raferties have Anari a small glance. The woman nodded and stilled her flail, though she kept it out, and moved to help protect Tide and also Khareesh, since Tide seemed concerned about him. Only then did Raferties show his trust in Lilinum's words and separated from the group, kneeling beside Andreiw (granted, having Shrayla close at hand was a reassuring knowledge towards his personal safety). With a reassuring smile, he gently laid a hand beside the wound, the other took hold of the arrow, and he murmured in Solarian. As the prayer whispered into the air, the arrow was expelled and the injury mended.
Meanwhile, Keldos was taking up his accustomed rule as High General.
"I believe we can agree to the deal, but regardless of how we are viewed we will defend ourselves if attacked. So it may mean very little what your enemies think we'd are. Be aware though: my brother nor I can speak falsehood. If we are asked what side we are on, we cannot pretend to be of yours or theirs. The best you could ask of him is his silence. I, however, must answer as best I can, honestly." He glanced at those from Teragaia. "Does anyone object?" Anari shook her head.
"I get how wars run. This is more familiar than I'd like to admit, but I get it." Softy to try and avoid being overheard, she Tide, "You okay?"
"Very well. I have given you the warning. What you chose to do with it is up to you and your limitations. I just pray you do not have to use it so soon after being given it." She watched in awe as Raferties healed up Andreiw who in turn was too stunned to do much else but just look at the Angel like he just grew another head. Or three. The fact that this strange being had touched him completely escaped him as he poked the hole that should have been in his thigh but wasn't. "Holy sand! Just where in the universe did you come from?"
No one could do that here. No one had that kind of ability. If Gwydion's suspicions weren't enough to for sure make all believe they were not a part of that world, that little act certainly would. Andreiw looked up at Raferties and narrowed his eyes. He would make a mental note that should they be attacked, he was going to kill this one. He could not get into enemy hands. Not with a power like that. Of the two leaders, he had always been the more...Practical and crueler of the two. Whereas Lilinum wouldn't even think like that, he would. He very much had the outlook that it was better to be dead than possibly captured by the enemy.
Sadly...He was basically right. Thankfully though, Lilinum would probably stop any and all should it become necessary too. She always did hold his heart in the palm of her hand.
"Sometimes I forget how deaf you soft-skins are," Shrayla muttered, rolling her eyes at most everyone she was with. "Here's a tip, though, I'm also shooting the next person who suggests attacking our little war camp. Because that's what this is now."
The eye-rolling included a very MATURE and RESPONSIBLE tongue-sticking-out at Khareesh once the speaking had concluded. You'd think the AIR genasi would have better hearing! But no, no, or maybe he just didn't like preemptive strikes on principle.
The North Wind was kept readied but not actually drawn as Raferties did his healing bit and everyone else tried to sort through the chaos.
"This really wouldn't be the first time I've been dumped into a war zone head-first and been asked to help, you know," she responded finally, raising brows at Lilinum. "You'll just be the first in a long, long time to want me informed first. So let's go. Can't win this thing just standing around like myconids."
A pointed cough from somewhere behind her (Khareesh) had Shrayla huff exasperatedly. "You mean to tell me your world doesn't have myconids? All your mushrooms are just...mushrooms? How very boring."
"That's not even relevant!" was Khareesh's short-lived outburst at Shrayla's... personality shift.
Problem with being the people-savvy twin was knowing what he was witnessing. Shrayla was battening down the hatches, pulling up her walls. It would make the greenrider a better problem-solver, but not a better friend.
If anyone could claim she had any friends? Khareesh couldn't say he'd ever seen the werewolf seek out companionship voluntarily. (Quite the opposite, and he knew for a fact she'd never been into the village proper without having crippling panic attacks: the dragons gossiped shamelessly about their riders to each other, and a vigilant rider could learn a lot by filtering the back-chatter.)
The genasi sighed, returning his attention to Tide. "You don't need to thank me," he told her with a crooked smile, squeezing her hand again. "I will always be here for you, Tide. I have to say, though, the winds of your home world... they don't sing. They scream for mercy, in sickness, in pain, in fear, choked by hatred and terror and smoke. I will always be here for you, but at the moment I am beginning to doubt my actual usefulness to you."
"You just stand back and sing the Doom Song and we'll be all right," Shrayla assured him, a crack in her mask revealing a bit of care, though her face was more or less impassive. "Keldos and Anari and I -- and that fella I haven't met yet -- can handle anything dangerous. If the angel runs out of healing, I've a few tricks of my own up my sleeves. Ranger charms. And, uh, probably a whole lot of gear, if my packs came with me. And the nice lass here can keep you out of trouble, bluerider."
"I beg your pardon?"
"You'll push yourself to breaking just to be helpful, and that isn't helpful. So stand the Nine Hells back and let the rest of us play our strengths."
Khareesh wanted to argue, except for the phantom pains of burned-to-mangled feet and shark teeth in his leg, the punishment he could have easily avoided but didn't because he'd wanted so badly to everything he could to help as much as possible and...he'd pushed himself to breaking just to be helpful, and had ended up being counterproductive.
A vigilant rider could learn a lot on the Dragon Grapevine, apparently, and Khareesh was not, apparently, the only vigilant rider.
Being told to stand aside like a damsel in distress was a little galling. But, on the other hand, precisely what could he contribute?
Andreiw managed to come out of his awe long enough to snort at what the werewolf was saying. "War camp? Here? What are you mad? Wait. Don't answer that one. I can tell already you are a few barrels short of being a loaded ship." Standing up, he tested his leg, amazed once more by what Raferties could do. "Man...We could have used you years ago. Took you damn sweet time getting here."
"Andreiw!" Lilinum rubbed her forehead as the vampyre shot her a 'what?' look. "Be nice to our new friends most likely. And...Myconids?" Yep. No clue what that strange word might be, but was just gonna roll with it. She agreed. The longer they stood here like this, the more likely the pure guard was to catch up to them and dispatch them all.
"Let's move!" Not even waiting for much more affirmation than that, she started off for the forest. "Do you best to keep quiet and if you can hear better than us..." She cast a pleading glance to Shrayla. "Please warn us. We can't tell friend from foe based on sound and so few of us can smell well with all the smoke that burned our noses that I would rather be prepared to shot than be shot instead."
Friendly fire was a very real thing, but she figured better friendly fire than going down with your pants offs.
Over hearing Khareesh's comment, she studied the air genasi more carefully. "You are not a siren...Are you?" Though she couldn't fault what he said. The winds would tell of pain. Or cruelty. Or hope lost. The winds also so rarely seemed to pick sides. She suppose that was nature for you. Never once caring so much as who won just so long as it could keep existing.
And yes. Khareesh should stay back with the other member of the group most likely to jump in front of attacks and be...Less than helpful while trying to be helpful. Maybe they could keep each other out of trouble. Or maybe they could find even more trouble...Either way, good thing that Khareesh had at least a good head on his shoulders.
So long as Tide wasn't bleeding out again.
"I'm not sure I can keep him out of trouble, but...I'll try." Tide figured Shrayla was talking to her though if not...Oops. Though as Lilinum started to disappear through the trees, she quickly moved to follow. Losing the one person she knew for sure wouldn't kill her on sight didn't set well with Tide and she was going to stick close.
Gwydion refrained from trying to help with the negotiations. He had a reputation for not helping in this kind of situations. He was a Journeyman of action. So him trying to keep everyone peaceful was actually a pretty big step. Now that it seemed things were dying down. He could go back to his moral self, thank whatever this place believed in. He was not a peacekeeper.... More a peace breaker. "Well, now we are all getting along like a happy, completely dysfunctional family." He snarked, it was his way of saying he cared. He took stock of the situation. "Let's see.." He said, pretending to check off his marks like a clipboard. "Dropped on a planet I only vaguely know... Check. Got my weapons and friends close by? Check.The planet is torn apart in a war and strife and may require me and my friends help to quell? Gonna put two checks on that one. And new allies that might stab us in the back. Check again. Man, it is just like old times. I'm getting a little nostalgic over here. haven't swapped planets in so long... Sniff." He said, pretending to wipe invisible tears away.
It really was interesting to be World hoping. He hadn't jumped since landing in the Weyr. So ending up here was a definite trip down memory lane, not just because he has been to this particular planet. But because of Jumping, in general, was nice and nostalgic for him. Though he couldn't say this was from a jump... It didn't feel like it. Something else bought them here... Though what it was.... He couldn't tell.
"Names Gwydion." He said, half directing it to Shrayla and the others there that yet to meet him. Though he guessed it was rather rude to assume that Shrayla meant him when she said fella she hasn't met yet was him. But he was willing to bet since he was the one who put himself between the couple and her. "Odd circumstances to meet under, but I have met people under stranger ones. Try talking to someone while they are battling a dragon... Go ahead... It's not as fun as it sounds. Well.... It was fun for me." He said, noting that people were leaving. He started to follow. "My interest are running really fast, stabbing people, and long walks on the beach." He said, now just talking to talk. Bad habit he had.
At first Raferties blinked in surprise at Andreiw's words, then Lilinum's reprimand, then chuckled, standing up and giving both of them a smile.
"Please, I took no offense. I believe it would be accurate of me to assume healing magics such as that are rare or even unknown on Flare. I warn in advance, while I am more than willing to do whatever I can to help should such be needed I am by far not as powerful a healer as some. I cannot restore limbs or life, and I can only knit bone together once it is set and even then it will be weaker." Keldos humphed.
"Do not give yourself such small credit, Little Brother," Keldos admonished gently. "All of the Archangels together do not have the ability to heal others as you do." Raferties couldn't help but chuckle.
"True, but I have a feeling that before this is over we will be longing for Valariel's presence!" Keldos gave an asserting nod of his head.
"Very likely."
As they began to head out, Keldos took in their formation and caught Anari's eye, giving a nod to the point behind Khareesh. She nodded, moving to take that flank. For his part the archangel took up position on the opposite flank, behind Tide. This ensured they were protected from the back and somewhat from the sides. Anari had returned her flail to its holder, though she kept her hand on the shaft. Keldos had sheathed his sword as well, but any who had ever seen him in battle knew how fast it could come to his hand. His wings were at a relaxed half-furl, close to his body but ready to snap out at the first sign of danger to launch into the air or for a rushing charge forward.
While the others talked, Raferties, having taken a more central location on the opposite side of Tide from Khareesh, was quiet. He was thinking. When James had appeared he'd called this a dream. The Lorekeeper was musing over this. It didn't feel like a dream. He'd felt Andriew's blood on his hands, smelled the salt air. Experimentally his free hand curled into a tight fist, enough so his nails dug into his palm and he felt the sting of it, more confirmation that it was reality.
Yet a part of him whispered that he knew very well that dreams and reality could seem much alike. Once or twice before he had been drawn into a dream that felt very much real, physical and emotional sensation included. And he had nightmares often enough to know that they could feel very authentic. And in that he knew a way to test the situation. Belial had been helping him manage his nightmares, trying to teach him the will to take control and turns things to his way using their soul connection. Sometimes it was as simple as Belial appearing at Raferties' side in the demonic invasion of the heavens, fighting the wicked creatures back. Other times, however, he acted more as a guide, coaxing the angel's sleeping mind to seeing things differently, becoming the demon's predator rather than their prey. All it took was a strong enough will.
So he was going to see if this was such a dream, where one's will could change things, in a way that barring the IF couldn't be falsified.
He thought back, bringing to mind image and touch and sensation all that once, picturing and feeling his old wing guards back upon his wings. They had been crafted for him by Keldos long before their old mortal world even knew of Solaris, when the Firstborn Archangel had been testing his crafting skills and given to the Guardian as a gift. Smooth Solarian Truesteel plates that curved snuggly over his wingbones, joined at several places to allow movement, studded with amethysts and supporting two chains with links the size of coins that spanned the back of his wings, none of which ever caught or tangled his feathers no matter how he flew. He'd left them behind when he'd fled Solaris' heaven, and though a good friend had once made replicas for him, these too had been lost in the journey to Teragaia. So there was no possible way that he could wear them now, shy of a dream.
But what would happen?
((pardon any typos - part of this was written on the kindle lol!))
