It could easily be said that whenever a Myrgwae was Up To Something, pretty much everyone else in the vicinity was aware of it.

Taki was no exception.

Oh, she thought she was doing well at casually making her way through the Weyr towards the quarters she shared with Cain, humming a merry tune to herself in her quiet way and smiling at everyone. But there was just something in the way that she peeked around corners and looked around before crossing them, or tried to sneak around doorways and windows that said clearly otherwise.

Not that anyone had the heart to tell her.

Taki, thus, was utterly oblivious as she did her level best to not be seen by her roommate or any of his bondeds. That would ruin the surprise you see! No, she had to be sneaky, and quiet, and get to their rooms and hope Cain wasn't there. Because the surprise had to do with him!

Reaching the door, she took a deep breath and once more peeked around, then opened it and strolled in as if everything was perfectly normal.

*Cain, I'm back!* she called in a projecting Silent Speech, closing the door behind her and pausing to listen.

Nothing.

*Cain?* Carefully she went from room to room, looking for the skeleton she called her dear friend, each time asking, *Cain, are you in here?*

Nothing. It seemed she was alone in the Weyr.

With a giggle and joyful skip, she darted to the room where Cain kept his things, instantly rummaging around in the manner of a close friend, one hand that had been in her pocket the whole time finally coming out holding the strip of leather that was the focus of her whole endevor.

*Now, where is that hat?*

Of course, the thought never occurred to her that Cain's hat might actually be, you know, with him, or somewhere other than with the rest of his things. She was too wrapped up in her excitement to consider such trivial things.

Silly thinking!

The hat in question was with Cain. While he didn't need it to hide the fact he was a skeleton, sunlight on white was still blinding or at the very least noticeable to sky loving creatures. Couple of oysters dropped on his head taught him that. The fractures had taken weeks to heal up. He had learned his lesson very well.

Sometimes anyway.

Walking down the hallways of the wery, he didn't have try to be sneaky. Wearing clothes tend to quiet most of the creams and flacks a skeleton made and the fact that he needn't breathe or have a heart pumping usually made him quiet. Not that he was trying to sneak anywhere. Just that it happened from time to time.

Entering the weyr he shared with Taki, ca in paused as he heard rummaging coming from his area. He didn't think much of it to be honest. Most of his companions rummaged through his stuff and anything really dangerous he kept with him. Like his loaded guns.

Not thinking to call out, he moved to see which companion it was this time. Though as Taki came into view, he couldn't hide the surprise. It soon turned into amusement as a chuckle escaped him. "Anything specific I can help you find Taki? Or did Brains take something of yours she wasn't suppose too?"

Hearing the familiar laugh and voice behind her made Taki jump with a small eep of surprise, her feet quite literally leaving the ground in a hop that spun her around to face Cain, one hand quickly tucking behind her back and an innocent (too innocent?) smile on her face.

*Hi Cain!* At least there was no doubt to her sincere pleasure at seeing the skeleton, despite whatever she'd been up to. Her eyes took in the location of her goal - right on Cain's head, naturally - in a quick dart before she refocused on his face. *No, Brains didn't take anything. At least, I don't think so. I haven't checked my bag in a couple days, though.* Oh, how to spring her surprise now? Mind trying to figure out a method even now, she tucked her other hand behind her back too and began rocking back and forth on her feet. *Um... well, there is something I was looking for.* Ah! Perhaps not quite the plan she had in mind, and yes it would be less of a super surprise this way, but it would be a good one nevertheless with the bonus of seeing his initial reaction! Her tail gave a small curl as her eyes glimmered with excitement. *Your hat! Could I see it for a moment, please?*

(little quick one! And there is an adventure in here for them, don't worry lol! I has plans!)

Cain was only mildly suspicious as Taki turned with her hand behind her back. He tried to figure out what in his stuff she would take that was that small and gave up. It was probably a shiny that Brains had stuck in there and Taki had wanted to look at it without an audience. Well, he ruined that plan pretty thoroughly. Not that he minded. He figured that eventually, Brains and Taki would be trading items back and forth and he would just leave them to it.

The question threw him for a bit of a loop as he removed the item in question and handed it to her. "Thinking about changing styles huh? I don't know if you can pull off the old west style Taki. Though you might enjoy all the dresses. Big, poofy things they were." As if to demonstrate, he moved his arms out by his hips and walked around as if he was wearing a skirt. "Great places to hide though from time to time."

Taki beamed as her skeleton friend handed over his hat, taking it with one hand and then promptly falling into a giggle fit at his pantomime.

*Hehe no!* she laughed, the arm that held the hat around her waist from merriment. *Okay, now just clo - * She stopped herself, realizing her instinctive phrase wouldn't quite work. *Oh, you can't close your eyes, since you don't have them. Um... Ok! Just don't look until I say!* Trusting Cain to listen, Taki turned around and began doing something out of the skeleton's line of sight (and out of line of sight of any skull-inhabiting Familiars, hopefully). The tip of her tail was twitching back and forth in delight, and it was only a moment later that she gave a happy little murmur of sound that was half Silent, half audible, turning around with Cain's hat now held behind her. *Now, hold out your hand, and don't peek still!* The hat would be returned, then after a giggle the Myrgwae would chirp, *Now you can look!*

The old hat would look the same, save for a black strip of leather tied around the band, evenly set with several moonstones in silver settings. Two thin black leather cords, what secured the band in place, would trail down with neatly knotted tips.

Taki was watching her friend with a hopeful expression on her face.

*I found it in the market earlier, along with a lot of other really pretty things, and I was going to fix you hat up and wait for you to find it. But this works too! I... I hope you like it.*

Cain chuckled, knowing what she had meant. He stopped his horrible charade skill demonstration and looked up at the ceiling, he was even nice enough to turn his skull up towards the roof as well. He never had to look physically in the direction he wanted to see it, but it often creeped out people. Which was why he did if truth was told. At least to people that didn't have a place of affection in his heart. Often time, keeping an enemy off balance had kept him intact and not a heap of scattered bones. But this was Taki and so Cain moved both his sight and skull as requested. He wondered what she could be doing to his hat and had a brief thought that she was cutting in Brain holes. Not that it would hurt the hat any. Would give a nice breeze, that is for sure.

Holding out his hand as requested, he felt the weight in his hand and resisted the urge to look right away. It didn't feel lighter that was for sure and one of the new straps brushed up against his bones, but he couldn't quite figure out what she had done to it. It was also a bit heavier. Maybe the new straps were weighted to keep it from flying off? Not that Cain would be complaining about that. Would keep it on his head when Dorth decided she wanted to push her limit of speed again.

As soon as she said he could look, he did so. He couldn't hide the surprise that well up at the sight of his hat now. The moonstones. The silver setting that held them to the leather band. The cords would definitely help in keeping the hat on his head and he really didn't want to lose it now. Not after Taki had gone through all the trouble of getting the band and then trying to surprise him with it. Giving a skeletal grin, he placed the hat back on his head, making sure the cord would catch should it blow off.

Moving, he knelt down and gave Taki a hug. "I love it Taki! It is the most thoughtful thing anyone has done for me in a long time. I afraid I don't have anything to give you in return at the moment. "

As Cain put his hat back on, Taki felt for certain that she had made a good call. The black, silver, and moonstone looked good on his hat, and thus also good on his head too! Her tailtip flicked back and forth happily, and she hugged him back with a giggle and a body-trembling purr.

*I'm so glad that you like it! When I saw it, I instantly thought of you.* She gave her friend a nuzzle at his words. *Silly, you don't have to give me anything back! You're my friend, and that's the best gift to me!* She gave him another squeeze, careful of how hard, then leaned back with a big happy smile. *Want to see what else I found?* She slipped back a step and pulled her ever-present bag around, carefully upending it and dumping out a varied assortment of things and whatnots. Most were at least faintly familiar, but a few she separated out. A lump of quartz, a small wooden figurine of a dragon, a scarf of fading blue colors, a mesh bag of marbles, a black orb about the size of Cain's fist that glittered with purple sparkles inside and radiated necromantic magic, a feather that looked like it came from a very large bird, and a rubber bouncy ball. All perfectly normal things for a Myrgwae to have randomly collected, right? Right!

Right?

Just cause he didn't have to give anything in return to Taki, did not also mean that he wasn't gonna do it at some point. Cain just had to figure out what would be a good gift for her. As she so demonstrated as she upended her bag onto the floor, scattering the contents around them both. Her and Brains had both the trait where they liked a variety of objects and people with very little rhyme or reason behind it. While it can make shopping for gifts easy, it can also make it hard. After all, how do you decide on just one thing for them?

Even as his eyes were looking over the items, he felt himself stiffen up. A bitter taste seemed to feel his mouth and he made a mental note to see if there were any gods he could pray to or threaten in order to get the illogical field to stop messing with him. Last thing he needed was to taste the things his sixth sense picked up on. Like the necromancer magic he could feel from the ball. A quick sleeve tug over his hand protected him and the ball from direct contact as he reached for it. "Taki...Where did you get this?" He kept his voice even, not wanting to worry her. If it was given to her, the giver had better hope they weren't aware of what the ball actually was or Cain may have to hasten their death just a bit.

Necromancer magic just wasn't something that generally had good intentions in mind. Generally. There were a few (like himself and the other Servants for instance), but they were very few and far between.

Even if she hadn't noticed Cain's sudden shift in body posture, and despite his even tone, Taki easily picked up on the sudden tension in his emotions. It was just like when a creature sensed a predator approach, a sense of danger, of immediate threat. She stopped her usual stream of chatter, moving a half step away from the orb that he picked up.

*It was in the mix of things at the market stall,* she answered. Her voice wasn't afraid, at least, because she trusted Cain to keep her safe even if things went south. *I thought it would be a good paperweight, once I found a way to keep it from rolling around everywhere.*

But perhaps any intentions of retribution against a malicious target that may have been drifting across Cain's mind would be somewhat thwarted, as a whisper of a thought would ghost across his mind. Not like a Bonded trying to speak to him, but something from beyond the veil. Or at least, something that should be beyond the veil.

Please... help me... release me....

Cain titled the orb this way and that, knowing that if it was among the mix of things at the stall that the chances of the seller knowing what he was selling was almost nil. He left a little bit of doubt just in case. He had seen far more complicated plans put into action before. Usually easily thwarted cause they were so complicated. Hearing the voice had him mildly surprised and highly suspicious. He had no idea the magic used on this orb. Or the entity trapped within. In his experience, releasing things without any knowledge was generally a bad idea. A very bad idea.

He had the feeling though that he might have much choice in that matter. "How do I know releasing you would be a good idea?" He looked toward Taki, wondering if she heard the voice as well or if it was just speaking to him. It didn't feel like it belonged here, trapped in the ball of purple, but at the same time, when did anything trapped in a object really belonged in said object?

Taki blinked when Cain spoke, though at his glance she just gave a small shake of her head; she'd heard nothing. Perhaps contact was the trigger, or at least the conduit.

I have been... trapped here for ages. My family... cursed....Trapped forever.... in our home.... Only when... we are freed may we finally rest.... The voice would fade in and out, as if the speaker, whomever or whatever he - it was definitely a he - was, struggled for breath or energy. Please... take me back... back to them... and free me. Free us!... I was... taken by a looter.... when part of the manor tower collapsed....Only one who... who has been touched... by death.... or life.... the divine.... can help us.... Please....

*Cain? What is it? Is there something bad about that crystal?* Taki's ears tipped down in concern, and her tail flicked back and forth anxiously, eyes darting between her friend and the object that held his attention.

"This object is radiating necromancy magic which isn't known for being something good. So I would classify it as something bad." Cain was a bit distracted as he thought over the voice's words. Trapped. Cursed. He certainly sounded like he needed help, but then again, Cain knew nothing about this person. From his point of view, he and his family could very well be cursed and 'woe is me' but from everyone elses'? They could be the scum of the earth and it was a blessing to have them locked away.

The fact that only someone touched by the divine or Life or Death did nothing to settle the suspicion in his mind that he was being played. That this voice was dangerous and wanted dangerous things.

But at the same time, there was really nothing that said the voice wasn't telling the truth either.

Sighing, he shook his head. "There is a voice inside this ball. If I knew more about it, I would let you touch it, but I'm not sure what it will do now that it seems to be activated so to speak." He had no doubt that him touching the ball had kicked it to life. Or at the very least woken up the voice within. "He is asking us to help him get back home." Only some of the information, but he didn't want to scare Taki. After all, she was the one who had picked it up and he didn't want to give her the same paranoia he often had with random objects. That wouldn't just be a good thing.

"He was taken by a looter and apparently belongs in a manor with a collapsed tower. "

At Cain's explanation about there being necromantic magic on the orb, and his wariness about the being inside, Taki promptly tucked her hands firmly behind her back.

*Cain... I've already touched it! At the stall, I picked it up, and held it while the owner and I were talking, and when I put it in my bag!* Her tail curled into an uneasy loop. On the one hand, surely nothing bad would happen, or it would have happened already. But on the other hand, who was to say it just hadn't happened yet? "But... maybe he was asleep, and didn't realize I'd picked him up?" Yes, surely that was the case.

As her skeleton friend told their unknown addresser's tale, however, the Myrgwae's expression softened into sympathy.

*Oh, poor him! First trapped, then stolen and taken away from home, and bought like a common trinket! We have to help him, somehow, right Cain? I mean, I don't know of any such manor, but maybe someone else does! And if we find out where he came from, we'll know whether he's nice or not!* She was getting a little excited now, the thought of perhaps helping someone out - even if they were just a voice in a crystal ball - as well as the thrill of Adventure pulling at her drive to explore. *Maybe he knows some clue to where he comes from?*

I hear... the little one speak... my home... far to the south... where mountains and forests meet... land of demons.... lived in the mountains....waterfall....

"It wasn't necessarily activated then. I seemed to have triggered it." Lucky me. In one way, he was relieved. That meant that whatever magic he had triggered didn't go after Taki. On the other hand, he would have to make a mental note to go back to wearing gloves so this wouldn't happen again. "And yes. That may have very well been the case there." He tried to keep the doubt from being too noticeable for whatever the actual reason, the orb was awake now and he wasn't about to let Taki actually touch it again. Not if he could help it anyway.

"Land of demons huh? That is where he says his home is." Tossing the orb, he deftly caught it before bringing it to what would be eye level. "If this is a trap, be sure that I will destroy you before you destroy me." Turning to Taki, it was on the tip of his tongue (so to speak) that she should stay here. Demons were rarely pleasant at the best of times and considering what havoc the illogical field probably had with their past times, he wasn't gonna put a lot of bets that they were in a best of times situation right now. Then he thought better of it. If he told her no, she probably would just follow anyway on the grounds of making sure he was in one piece. The question at that point would be who would make sure Taki was in one piece? No no. Far better to let her come so he knew for sure she was there rather than wondering if she was following.

Taki, for all her sympathy, shivered a bit at the thought of a 'land of demons.' She'd heard tales of the area in her wanderings, but that didn't make it sound any more pleasant.

Ok, to be fair, she'd only heard the barest bits of information, but she'd heard a lot of demons from her old worlds to imagine it was some fiery, barren place with dark cloudy skies and nasty swamps. While all very interesting, probably not the best place to have a good time.

*Forest... Mountains... Hmm... Oh wait! I think I picked up a map somewhere!* Instantly Taki began rooting through her things that had been spilled over the floor, finally finding a small scroll case that had been buried under a few extra scarves (which Cain would know functioned as sashes or such for her). She unscrewed the lid, then pulled out the map and unrolled it on the ground.

*Well, here's the mountains, and the forests... though I was told the map map not always be a good one... Oh!* Her finger landed on a spot on the map. *There's a tree, and a mountain, and it's on the north of a place marked 'Demon Territory!' Could that be it?*

Yes... I believe it is close... I remember... waking up and seeing the trees.... from my balcony....

((Haha, told you us admins would find uses for that map!))
