"Taki...I'm not sure a map of this world would be too hel-" He was surprised as Souna appeared and promptly clicked his teeth shut. Maps are always nice. Cain gave a quiet sigh, knowing that was Souna's way of pointing out that rather the map functioned correctly or not, it would still be helpful to have at the very least. Though as he looked at it, he had to wonder if it was drawn by a two year old or if the the illogical field was playing with his site. He was fairly positive those were suppose to be trees and not a bunch of stick figures doing a dance...Fairly positive.
As Taki also mentioned the same problem he was about too, Cain figured it was a mute point and being careful with the orb, leaned over to study the piece of parchment with her. Seeing the place where she had pointed, Cain shrugged as he held up the orb ball. "This better not be a trap..." He gave the orb a mild shake to make sure the unspoken part was really driven home before looking at Taki. "Might as well start there. There are only so many places his manor could be and if we can't find it...We can always wait a month or two. Chances are the illogical field will dump it on us."

Even though Souna had cut off Cain's sentence - and caught Taki a bit by surprise as well, making her ears twitch and her eyes widen a bit - the Myrgwae still understood what the intent had been. And by her thoughts it was a perfectly reasonable statement - even she had said as much, or at least had paraphrased someone else saying as much about Teragaia and maps. So she wasn't in the slightest bit offended, even if she could conceive ever being offended at almost anything Cain said to her.
Yep, if when Taki was younger she'd ever felt the need for find a Companion to connect with for stability, she definitely would have sought out someone like Cain. She felt just that comfortable around him and trusted him that much.
Her tail curled around his ankle when he leaned over to look at the map with her, something that was becoming a bit of a habit with her, then she looked at the Orb when Cain addressed it. Though she couldn't hear the reply, the... whatever it was within heard his words and the not-so-veiled threat.
If there is any danger there... it is none of my doing. This... I vow. I... only want to go home...and then to rest.... forever. The voice paused a moment, as if thinking. I... recall very little... but I remember being fearful of something.... I cannot remember what.... You... should be... cautious... be prepared....
Taki quite naturally was in the dark about the other half of the exchange, only giggling at Cain's wry assessment of the IF's tendencies. *It might! But I know I wouldn't want to take that long to get home, so I really, really hope it's there.* She reached out as if to pet the Orb in a gesture of comfort, then thought better of it and tucked her hands behind her. Then she looked up at her skeleton friend, eyes a little wide as a thought seemed to occur to her. *You're - letting me go too?? Thank you!* She hugged him, purring. *I know I might not be much use, but I really want to help you help him get home. I'll look really hard for a manor - I've seen a few back on my first world, so I know what to look for - and I'll not get in your way if we get into trouble or anything!* It was unspoken that should the aforementioned trouble arise, she had no fears for her safety even so close to a place as potentially unsavory as the Demon Territory. She would be with Cain! What's to worry about?

"We live in a place where the phrase expect the unexpected isn't just a cliche, but a very good motto to live by. We shall be both." Cain knew better than to go to a new place without anyway to defend himself. There were wild dragons in the area and while most of the wildlife seemed friendly, he didn't want to take any bets on the friendliness of the creatures the further from Haven they were. He was a bit lost in thought, making a mental list of what was needed that he stumbled just a bit when Taki hugged him.
Chuckling, he gave her a hug back. "Of course I am letting you go! Something tells me that if I don't, you might just come along anyway. If anything cause Dorth would ask you to track me down and make sure I am getting proper baths." Cain could really see his dragon doing that too. At the mention of trouble, Cain nodded even as he hoped that they wouldn't cross anything too bad. While he could protect Taki, he truly didn't want to put her at risk if he could keep from it. "Not much use huh? I think you would be of quite a bit of use! For one thing, if anyone has decided to move into his home, they might be more welcoming to an adorable ball of sunshine and fluff than an old, walking pile of calcium."
Plus, as much as Cain can fight and do and as little of the necessitates he actually needed, he knew he wasn't fool proof. Small details he could miss or just simply walk past. He knew his view of the world was very lack a daisy unless on a mission and even then, he has been known to miss things just for the simple fact that he had seen it a million times before, why should now be any different? The skeleton knew that was a bad mindset to get into, but one that happened often enough among the servants that usually they kept each other in check. Usually.
"So...We leave in the morning tomorrow?" He figured that would give them plenty of time to get ready and prepare. The advantage to living in the weyr. Everything was at hand and if it wasn't? The village was just a couple of flaps from a dragon's wing away.

Taki nodded in agreement to Cain's assesment to the dangers of this world - yes, to be prepared was always best! That was why she always put random things into her bag: one never knew when she would have exactly what was needed! She laughed at Cain's words about Dorth's thoughts, easily able to see it herself.
*Thanks for saying I'd be useful,* she murmured as she stepped back. *I hope I can be, though I think you're perfectly nice, even nicer than some people who have their bodies and aren't skeletons! Though I don't know if I could track you down. If we were Connected, then I could, but otherwise I think I'd just get lost.* The prospect of being lost didn't bother her much, because in her reasoning Cain would just come find her eventually! Granted, that in and of itself would allow her to locate him in the process, but it so didn't count since he was doing the finding.
*Tomorrow morning sounds perfect to me! We can get supplies, and tell people we need to tell that we're going. Oh! And I'm sure some of my companions would like to do too... but I don't know if Honor or Tam'kir would enjoy such a long trip being carried by Dorth, and it might tire her foretalons, but I'll probably ask anyways. Journeyman definitely could though! He's small, and could fit in my hat if nothing else!* The poddle moth cuddlebug was a relatively recent companion that oftentimes spend the day perching on Taki or one of the others, which when Cain was the target often made it look like, due to coloration, that the skeleton had picked up a strange bone spur somewhere.
*So lets see... we'll need blankets and tents, rope - I had a rogue once tell me you just have to have rope going anywhere! - and some sort of light, food and water, chalk so we can mark our way if we get into a maze...* The little feline fae went off on a tangent, listing things as she dropped to gather her spilled treasures back into her bag, many of which would quite likely be making the trip as well simply because she wouldn't remember they were in there. Oh well, surely some of them might come in handy!
((We can jump to the departure if you want, or if you want any shopping interacting that's awesome too!))

(Jumping to the departure works out for me ^.^ )
Cain just gave a skeletal grin as Taki started to go off on tangents as she explained her list. He was sure that whatever she brought, she would need at the very least. Tents and blankets usually wasn't something he had to worry about bringing but knew that was mostly due to the fact that he was undead. There was a lot of things that he didn't have to worry about bringing or doing. It made traveling easy to do when there wasn't ever a lot to carry around.
"I'm sure Dorth would be fine if they wanted to come along. It would just be a longer ride with rest breaks in between." He didn't bother mentioning that a flight between would make the trip much faster. Taki didn't like it and he couldn't exactly blame her. Then there was the fact that whatever magic the orb had might not make the trip there and back. Between was such a strange place and had its own rules it liked to follow. Barring illogical field meddling of course.
"Just don't stay up too late packing okay? You will need your rest for the journey ahead. If there is anything you want me to stick in your bag, just let me know and I can do it as you sleep." Another perk to being undead. Sleep was more of luxury than a necessity.

The Myrgwae nodded in agreement with Cain's assessment as to Honor and Tam'kiir's joining them. Yes, he was right; Dorth physically could carry either of them - she'd done that before, naturally, when Taki had first arrived on Teragaia - but at the same time she also realized that Honor might have trouble inside a building. Tam'kiir would be a bit better, but she had no idea how he would take a long flight. Oh well - she'd just have to ask him!
With that cheery thought, and a quick hug for Cain, Taki scurried about preparing for their upcoming journey. And when she finally turned in late that night, it was with a satisfied smile and not just her usual satchel but a second backpack bulging with supplies. (Okay, so she would be the only one enjoying the marshmallows she made certain to purchase for campfire treats; the fact that Cain didn't eat - and that even if he did, melted marshmallow goo would likely stick in his ribs in a way that would mean a Dorth-bath for sure - wholly escaped her.)
Bright and early the next morning, Taki joined Cain for their departure. Tam'kiir, while voicing a want to go, was sadly feeling a bit under the weather and it was agreed that the trip through the air might make him worse. So only Journeyman, a new acquaintance of Taki's being a Poddle Moth Cuddlebug Athid, would be coming along from the Myrgwae's side of the joint Weyr. The white and fluffy little mecha-insect peeked out from under the brim of her hat where he would be riding.
As for Taki herself, she had her satchel full, and a backpack on her back full as well of things she thought she or Cain might need. The fae was fairly bouncing on her feet as she stood, ready to go.
Be careful, Taki. Honor murmured softly, lowering his head to nuzzle his Bonded. Taki patted his neck and giggled.
*I will be! And I'll have Cain with me all the time, I promise!*
Yes, the Familiar agreed, looking at the skeleton to give him a nod, there is that. I'm very glad I can trust you, Cain, to protect Taki for me. With a final pat to her Bonded, Taki turned to Cain.
*Ready to go?*

For Cain's part, Souna and Brains would be making the trip with him. He had reservations about bringing along Brains, but figured that leaving her behind would be even worse. The skeleton would not put it past the familiar to track him down no matter the distance or the obstacles thrown her way. Much better to just let her come along. Saved him the the hassle of having to go look for her later. The con to doing this was the fact that her habit of picking up shiny objects may doom them all. Hence why Souna was also coming with him. Maybe the Athid could keep Brains in check. Or at least give everyone else fair warning when she touched something she probably shouldn't.
Cain nodded back at Honor. He would give his life for Taki, but no reason to say that out loud and tempt the universe into delivering on that promise. "I'm ready to go whenever you are. Just got to make sure you are strapped in."
Dorth let out a huff as she extended a leg for Taki to climb up on her back. I don't think you trust my flying abilities Cain. She was teasing though. While Cain could survive a fall, Taki could not and Dorth knew it was better to be safe than sorry. If Taki was being carried in her talons, there would have been no worry about her falling, but the trip was too long to do that. Back was just the easiest way to go at this point.
"Considering how often I get dumped into a lake when I fly with you? Nope. Don't trust your flying ability one iota." His tone was teasing as he made sure to strap Taki into place once she was settled.

Taki scurried up Dorth's leg with the ease that might have made some proper Riders envious, all eager bundle of furry energy. She sat still as Cain strapped her in, helpfully moving her satchel out of the way during the process, then coaxed Journeyman into her backpack where he would be safer. Her hat she just took a tight grip on to not let it fly off. While perhaps removing it might have been slightly more secure, a Myrgwae never removed their headgear, and Taki was a proper Myrgwae after all.
The banter between the dragon and skeleton had Taki giggling into her free hand, then smiled cheerfully at Cain.
"Thank you, Cain! I feel all snug and safe!" She patted the straps. "Ready to go!"
Shortly they were airborne and winging their way across the sky. Taki was eagerly looking all directions, though her tail had looped around Cain's thighbone soon after takeoff. The weather was perfect for a flight, just the right temperature to account for wind chill, and the little feline was utterly enthralled with this incredible vantage point.
*I got a good look at the map last night before I slept,* she murmured in her Silent was to her companion, *and I think if we fly all day we should get there just about sunset! Dragons fly so fast, and I bet Dorth is one of the fastest of them all!* She leaned down for a moment to hug on the dragon as best she could, before she sat up. Then she looked over her shoulder at Cain, with a trace of worry in her eyes. *Cain? This manor... it's on the boarder of the Demon Lands? Is that... a really scary place? I mean, I've heard about the Wild Dragons and how dangerous they are, and how there are some creatures and even people that cause all sorts of problems, but a demon-filled area... that's worse, isn't it?*

"Hmm. I would think that would be on of the blues wouldn't it?" He chuckled as he felt Dorth grumble underneath them. He was merely teasing and the brown knew it. But she did put on a bit more speed. Not enough to tire her out, but enough to prove a point to Cain. Just cause blues were the ones with all the aerial moves, didn't mean she couldn't hold her own from time to time.
Cain mulled over Taki's question, one hand coming up to scratch his skull. Chittering broke out as the sound annoyed Brains, but it faded away quickly enough. "I don't really know the answer to that one Taki. I haven't been to the demon lands before. Doesn't help that on my world, you would be right. Demons would be worse. But on this one? Who knows? We have a zombie that makes clothes and doesn't eat people. Dragons you can ride. Walking skeletons. Witches. Wizards. Angels. Fiends. Nothing on this world is quite the same as on my world. So why should the demons here follow suit? But I know, if they are dangerous, we will retreat and regroup. The orb, no matter the pleas of the voice inside, is worth losing your life over." He moved the hand to tug on her hat lightly.
"We can always come back better prepared."

Taki couldn't help but giggle at the tease between Dragon and Rider, and at Dorth's non-verbal response - such interactions were one of the thing she so enjoyed witnessing.
She listened to Cain's thought process, and nodded in agreement; things were far different here than on nearly any other world she'd lived on (the one where the actually met Cain and Dorth being the closest thing). She nodded in agreement to the plan, then giggled again at the hat tug.
*Or you losing yours!* she put in, looking over her shoulder at him. *I know you're nearly indestructible, but that's only nearly! I'm sure Dorth nor Brains nor any other companion of yours wants to lose you, and I don't either!" She added a firm nod of her head, just to make sure her point got across.
The miles would fly by beneath them in a colored blur, and eventually Taki would nod off, leaned back against Cain and dozing. She'd remain that way until finally, close to sundown, ahead loomed a long mountain chain.
And on the edge almost completely shrouded by tall evergreens was a once-splendid manor.
Their height advantage would be the sole thing that would allow Cain to even spot it, as all other avenues would be thickly forested. The manor itself would show great age, with ivy all but coating its walls and all windows darkened with dirt and debris. A gaping hold in one side, overlooking the cliff's edge, would give evidence to a tower having once existed there but gave way to the decay of time - the remains of which had likely plummeted down into the wide and raging river below. Over all of this would be a pallid gray sky, and a sense of foreboding much akin to walking into a abandoned graveyard.
The only viable place available for Dorth to land would appear to be a glade about a twenty minute hike away, unless she felt like bashing down a few trees.

"I'm pretty hard to kill." Cain chuckled lightly, but did make a mental note to be a bit more careful. No point in putting Taki and Dorth and the others through an agonizing wait as he made his way back from the dead. Soon enough, Taki was asleep and Cain just had Dorth and Souna to keep him company. He bounced ideas back and forth between the two as the miles flew by. Mainly what they might see or what they might encounter.
Close to sundown, the manor came into view and Cain had to admit he was impressed. The forest surrounding it made it nearly impossible to get there on foot unless you knew exactly where you were going. Probably why the owner built it here in the first place. This close to the demon lands. The impossible to get there by ground. Cain had to applaud the steps taken to protect the mansion. Now he only wished he knew why the owner had taken such measures to ensure. The skeleton was glad they had decided to fly instead of ride.
The manor was still standing, but Cain wouldn't place any bets on for how much longer. What looked like it had been a tower had already crumbled away to the river below and the ivy had quite a bet of head start on the rest of the house. I see a landing spot, but it would be a walk through the woods. Unless you don't care about destroying a few trees. Dorth circled the area slowly, waiting as Cain thought it over.
"I don't fancy our chances of a walk through those woods to be totally honest. The air is thick with...Not exactly evil, but certainly something I don't want to meet in a dark alley. But at the same time, the crashing of the trees would be like blowing an air horn. It would alert everyone and their dog within a good five mile radius. Probably more if the illogical field decides to play sound boosting." While Cain wasn't looking forward to the hike, he figured it would be better than trying to land on the trees. Both for their safety and the sake of not injuring Dorth should the landing take a wrong turn.
Nodding, Dorth moved over to land at the clearing while Cain gently shook Taki's shoulder. "Taki. It is time to wake up little fluffball of sunshine. We are basically here."

Taki stirred when Cain shook her shoulder, yawning and for a moment cuddling more into him as if wanting to nap some more, before the whistling of the wind around them and Journeyman clicking in her ear from under her hat reminded her of exactly where she was, and her eyes popped open with a murmured sound of first excitement, then awe at what lay before them. Her head turned this way and that, taking in the mountains and the manor, the thick woodland that glided down the opposite slope before fading into barren red rocky land, appearing almost foreboding in the late-evening atmosphere.
*Oh wow... I bet that manor was beautiful when it was fixed!*
It was, came the Voice to Cain; clearly the mysterious passenger was 'awake,' as it were, and by the sound of things 'feeling stronger.' Or at least the faint weakness that had been in his voice before was gone. It was like a jewel on the mountainside on a blanket of green... before... Here it paused, as if in thought or confusion. I... I don't remember. It's all a hazy blur to me. By her lack of reaction, Taki was unaware of the Voice, just looking at the ground below them.
Even as Dorth almost reached the treetops, however, the Myrgwae grabbed hold of Cain's thighbone with her tail in a snug grip, one hand clutching to the straps while the other pointed at an upper floor window.
*Cain! I saw something - a light! There was a light in the window!* Nothing now, though, in the curtained and closed glass portal. It could be questionable whether or not any but a very strong light could have even pierced through the thick layer of grim that covered it.
Landing would prove to be easy, at least, with the IF behaving itself for the moment. Dorth's feet crunched underbrush and even a slight layer of snow, though perhaps more ominously no birds took to the air at her descent, nor any woodland animals flee from the arrival of an apex predator such as a dragon. The forest lay quiet, still, as if there was no life to it at all. Taki gave a little shiver, though whether or not from the slight almost-wintery chill or from the atmosphere was a toss-up, and pulled a woman's shawl from her bag, draping it around her shoulders and tying it in place (on her it was far more like a moderately-long cloak than a shawl).
*It's so quiet.* Even Taki's 'voice' was a bare whisper, unwilling to break the still that hovered like a blanket over them.

"The voice agrees with you Taki. He says it was quite a sight." Cain decided not to mention the fact that the Voice also claimed that something happened to this place to make it look like that. Since he couldn't remember what it was, Cain decided there was no use worrying about that for the moment. If he had to guess though, he would bet it had something to do with how the Voice came to be inside the orb and a good day's journey on dragon back from his home.
Before he could dwell on it more, he felt Taki grip him tight. Turning his head so fast that it would have caused a neck strain if he had muscles, Cain tried to see the light that Taki had saw. He saw nothing though. No glimmer. No shadow. Just the dirty window surrounded by the rest of the house. He didn't have an ounce of doubt about what Taki saw. If the Myrgwae saw a light, chances were high there had been a light there. The fact that someone was living in a house that run down set Cain's nerves just a bit on edge.
The fact that nothing scampered away from Dorth's landing did nothing to settle them either.
<<Easy my Cain. If you start worrying, that would only make Taki that much more nervous,>> she reminded him in private. It did little to ease Cain's worry but he did reign it in. After all, a healthy dose of worry and nerves could be a good thing in cases like this. Or make you see shadows. That part Dorth didn't bother to keep to herself as she nestled down in the clearing for a good long wait.
"I don't know if that would be such a bad thing at the moment. And yes. Be careful Taki. The fact that it is quiet in a forest doesn't bode well." Untying and slipping off first, he reached up to help Taki undo the straps that kept her in place and down to the ground. He voice felt much louder than it actually was and Cain didn't even bother flinching at the sound of it. Someone knew they were here. You can't miss a dragon flying anywhere and the fact that there was a light at the window proved that someone had seen them land here. Or with reasonable logic, could guess where they were going to land.
Looking around, Cain tilted his head back and looked up at the darkening sky. "I don't fancy walking these woods at night. What do you say we camp here and push on in the morning?"

Taki didn't have to hear that Cain believe her about the windows; she felt it, and that was more than enough. She was glad for that, since she herself had wondered for a moment if she did see something. She felt fairly certain that she had, but... No, she had! She definitely saw a light in that window.
She felt the faint rise of wariness in her friend that was quickly brought back under control and turned into a comforting confidence as Cain unfastened the riding straps and she slid down. Even thought this place was creepy, as long as she was with Cain (and Dorth as much as she reasonably could) she would be safe!
*I'll be careful!* she promised in a whisper, gesturing with a cross-my-heart manner. She giggled as Journeyman, hearing the suggestion to make camp, came out and fluttered around them in a white fluffy blur. *I think camping sounds like fun! I have marshmallows! And a big blanket! And I think a tent too!* She slipped her backpack from around her shoulders and set it down, crouching down and unfastening the top. The bag was bulging with supplies and less-than-supplies, and tied to the side was a bundle of canvas with collapsible poles, a nice tent. She unwound it and everything tumbled onto the ground.
*Um... any idea how to set this thing up?* Taki asked with a sheepish grin.
((Feel free to have some fun with their camp if you want!))

If Cain had lips, they would have twitched into a smile at the proclamation that Taki had marshmallows. Leave it it to the feline fae that Cain would swear to being made of sunlight and sugar to bring something sweet to snack on. He wondered briefly if she had remembered to pack in anything a bit healthier than sugar fluff and decided that she probably had. Somewhere in that massive pack of supplies she had with her. She could probably open a museum of knick knacks just form what was in that pack alone he was willing to bet.
At her question of setting up a tent, Cain couldn't help himself and laughed loudly. It echoed throughout the clearing and despite the danger of such a loud, sustained noise, it took him a minute to get it back under control. The tension that had slipped away during the laughing fit came back but not as bad as before. If something hadn't known they were out here, they certainly did now. That is certainly one way to give away our location my Cain. Maybe next time you should keep such things to yourself if quietness is what you want?
"Aye. That I should Dorth, but Taki's asking about a tent just struck my funny bone just right." Souna had already moved about to examine the canvas and poles on the side of the pack as Cain moved to take it from Taki. "In answer to the question, yes, I know how to set up a tent. It has been awhile since I have though. Not much need for shelter and such and if I do, Dorth's wings make for a pretty good one." Dorth rumbled softly in agreement before settling down for the night, all her senses on alert for anything dangerous. Hopefully, she could give them enough of a warning that they will be safe. Or at the very least have a fighting chance.
Moving about slowly, Cain set up camp. First things first was clearing a patch for the tent. That was easy enough as Dorth had scattered everything with her wings when she landed. Not wanting to set the tent directly on the hard ground, he gathered up leaves to use as an extra ground cover before laying the actual ground cover down. Next he spread out the tent, inserting poles where they needed to be and in about three minutes, had the tent set up and ready to toss supplies in. Years of practice had made him efficient even if it had been awhile since he had set up a tent.
The next step he would have done, Dorth made moot. What was the point of bear proofing the food when Dorth would snatch and gobble up any bear that dare even try to sniff around camp? With the strange lack of wildlife though, Cain didn't think that even without Dorth he would have had to worry about a bear sniffing around. So he moved onto finding stones and rocks to build a fire pit. Dorth helped out by unearthing buried rocks and digging the pit with a good swipe of her claws. Brains had decided to scamper about at this time and with Souna's helpful direction, started dragging over sticks to light for kindling.
"I don't know if a fire would be a smart idea, but you said you brought marshmallows right? And what is a marshmallow without it being heated over the fire till it is a sticky mess?" He moved over to tug on her hat before going back to work, building up the circle. The real reason he would risk a fire in the end though would be to keep Taki warm throughout the night. No frozen fluffballs this go round.
"Do you want to go ahead and furnish the tent with the blanket you brought?" He was also fairly sure she brought other things for inside the tent, and that putting her to work on decorating the inside of the tent would be a good way of finding out just what she had packed when he wasn't looking. Or a good way to walk into an explosion of something. He wasn't quite sure which at this point.
