Both Cain and Dorth waited for the tension to collapse before either one relaxed. Knowing he wasn't any worse for the wear, he went to check on Dorth. His bony hands skimmed along her hide, looking for any serious injuries. "They are gone Taki. We managed to beat them back thanks to a trick from our trapped friend. You can come out if you wish. I'm just checking Dorth for serious injuries."

He ignored Dorth's response that there were none, just a biting cold from where their teeth had found some purchase.

Slowly, as if wary against any further attack, Taki peeked out of the tent still holding the smaller Bondeds close. Then seeing and likely even sensing that things were well and truly over she set them down, then hurried out and wrapped herself around Cain in a hug.

*I'm so glad you're alright!* she murmured, her entire body shaking though whether from nerves or relief or what was hard to tell. She then turned and gave Dorth as much of one as she could, which amounted to her laying arms spread against the dragon's hide and nuzzling her. *And you too, Dorth! Are you hurt? I think I have a first-aid kit in my bag, though the bandaids might be a bit small.* Trying to help, Journeyman returned to her bag and wiggled his way in, searching for the named item. Though of course given his size and the fact that the bag's flap promptly folded shut on him again, his plan might not have been quite thought out. Little help, Brains? Souna?

Taki meanwhile had stepped back from Dorth to let Cain continue his own examination, and she rubbed her hands briskly over her arms, then moved over to try and stir the fire back into full life.

*I don't think any gift we could've brought would make him like us,* she observed with a half-smile. *If he lives way out here, all alone, I don't think he wants visitors. No offense, Mr. Orb.* She paused a moment, then looked at Cain. *I didn't upset him did I? I can't hear him, still.* The Orb would remain silent, though Cain would sense a faint flicker of response. Not though for an actual statement or reply to be known, but more a 'yes, I'm still here' kinda thing. Fire now crackling again merrily, the fae took a seat to get warm. "Do you think they'll come back? Should I try to find something silver?"

Brains fell over, a chittering laugh at Journeyman's situation. Souna shook his head and went over to do what he could to help free the poodlemoth from his imprisonment. Eventually Brains also moved to help and together they managed to get the flap off of Journeyman so he could crawl back out. I thank you for the concern Taki, but save it for yourself. My wounds, what there are, are minor. It would do no could to put a bandage of the wrong size on them anyway. I will be fine. I do not think any of them are in any danger of becoming infected. Cain also nodded in agreement. While he would have liked to cover a few of the bite marks, he would rather save the first aid for Taki or any of the other companions should they need it.

Besides, none of the bites truly looked serious as trying to bite though hide wasn't an easy task. What really worried him was the bone deep chill Dorth was feeling from the bites, but until he knew rather it was poison or a spell side effect, he couldn't really do anything at the moment.

Tilting his head at Taki's question, Cain barely caught the flicker of a response. He recognized it for what it was though and set about reassuring Taki. "I don't think you upset him. No. But if I had to bet, I would say it took a lot out of him to keep the wolves as solid as he possibly could. And even then they still flickered from shadow to solid. He is probably just resting. Besides." He moved over to sit beside Taki after doing what he could for Dorth's wounds, lightly tugging on her hat as he shifted to get comfortable. "No one could stay mad at you for long. You are too adorable to inspire ire."

Leaning back, his skull tilted up at the sky even as his 'eyes' looked at their surroundings. "No. I don't think they will be back tonight. Not after that victory. If I was in charge of them, I would be wary of such a defeat. At least till I figured out what caused it. Far as I know, our host is only aware of possibly two to three of us. I can't remember if Mr. Orb was sensed or not. So far as I am concerned our host doesn't quite know about him. Though they might after this battle. Depends on how many weaknesses our furry friends have."

He gave her last question some serious thought. He had a few extra silver bullets in his ammo pack. And a few that were mixed with other metals like iron. But the only true weapon he had on him made of silver was his knife and while he could give that to Taki, he definitely preferred it if she remained out of battle. But he also didn't want her without a weapon. Just because he preferred her out of a fight, didn't mean their foes would be so obliging. Last thing he wanted was to put Taki in danger because of a selfish weapons. Better to patch her up than to bury her. That was his only true worry on this mission. Losing one of them to Death. Not that he sensed or saw it was anyone's time, but sometimes even he didn't get that much warning before Death came aknocking.

"It probably wouldn't hurt to find something silver. While I don't expect you to need it or use it, I would rather be safe than sorry. You know?"

The chill from the bites would slowly start to fade from Dorth, as if it was a side-effect of the wraith-like wolves' teeth and breath. A faint frost-like mark would remain behind, though, vanishing under a pass from any even slightly warm touch and returning again a moment later. Perhaps this would fade with time. Journeyman would have the medical kit in hand, as it were, but hearing Dorth's reassurance simply set it aside, just in case.

Taki giggled when Cain gave her hat that playful tug – she had to admit that sign of friendship between them always made her feel better and safe – then again at his comment.

*You rhymed!* Leave it to a fae to note that! She nodded as he went on explaining about their as-of-yet-unknown host. *That makes sense. And I admit besides the wolves I didn't –sense- anything like I did before. I suppose they might go report back to him, like they were just to test us or something? That's what creatures like that tend to do in all the stories and plays I've heard. They always report back to some horrible monster or something.* She shivered, tugging on her hat a bit before settling again. She was safe with Cain and Dorth. And Souna, Brains, and Journeyman of course!

At his comment about weapons, she frowned a bit.

*I'm not sure if I have anything silver... Hmm....* As might have been expected, she thought a moment, then went to retrieve her satchel, letting the three smaller Companions out in the process. Journeyman briefly landed on Cain's skull, just to say a little 'Hello, glad you're safe!" before fluttering over to land on Dorth and resting there in a quiet manner, wings gently waving. The Myrgwae came back and say down next to Cain, rummaging through the bag. *At least it's not cold iron I'm looking for – I know I wouldn't have any of that with me! Last time I accidentally touched it, my finger got burned, and it hurt a lot! A lot more than getting burned on the stove for sure! Lets see... no, that's steel – still don't know why they call it 'silverware' when it's not silver – and that's gold – a bracelet wouldn't make much of a weapon... steel, steel, wood... um... well, I have this that's silver?* She pulled out a belt, much too large for herself, with a silver buckle and a few silver adornments on it that looked like galloping horses. *I got it in a trade a long time back from a horse breeder. He said it was silver, though I'm not sure. Can you actually make belt buckles from silver?* Well, the buckle would be colored silver, and no amount of scratching would remove a false layer or anything, so maybe?

((As an OOC note, any tests that Cain might know to perform to test the makeup of the buckle and adornments would prove they are silver. I'll likely be progressing us to the next day in my next post, so feel free to indicate any desired course of action.))

Cain didn't bother to point out that thinking that their furry 'friends' were reporting back to a monster wasn't a good idea. At the very least, it was a bit demoralizing and at the very worst, it gave their host some of their fear. So to speak. Imaginations were always worse than anything Cain had ever found in real life. In his opinion anyway.

Watching her move to look through her bag, Cain gave an internal wince at the mention of cold iron. "Then you might want to stay out of my ammo box at home. It has a couple of cold iron bullets in there. Somewhere. I think...For all I know they are cupcakes at the moment and totally harmless." The illogical field had a lovely habit of causing his things to become food. Why? He didn't know and didn't really want to know in the end. Reaching out, he took the buckle and belt from her and peered at it. "It is called silverware because it actually used to be made from silver. This was back before the invention of steel and many utensils were either wooden or metal, if they were available at all. Most of the time, people just used their fingers, bread, and their hunting knives." He spoke as he turned the buckle over in his hand and peered at the back of it before handing it back to her.

Brains had scampered up to rest on the joint of Dorth's wings, bright eyes watchful for any sign of approaching danger. Souna was moving over the dragon, making sure nothing had gone amiss by accident. It wouldn't do any good to discover too late a debilitating cut or other injury to the brown.

"So for someone to have a set solely for the purpose of eating was a sign of wealth. And why not make it out of something that was also hard to come by? Of course, this is all from my homeworld's history and perspective. I don't know about yours but I would imagine it is similar. Most worlds tend to be at the basics. Or so I have been informed by my more dimensional comrades." Leaning back, he nodded toward the tent. "Yes. You can make buckles from silver. In fact, you can make just about anything from silver if you have enough of it. You should probably get some rest now. If you would like, you can sleep out here by the fire or you can move to the tent. Like I said, our host is done for the night. I would also keep that buckle out. While I don't have anything to test it with, I do know if those wolves come back, they would be a test for it. A horrible, trail by fire one, but a test none the less."

Should Taki choose to stay outside the tent, Cain would hold her close so she would have a physical reassurance he was still with her as well as her normal emphatic one.

Taki paused in her searching to look over at Cain when he mentioned his ammo box. Sure, she'd lifted the lid and looked, but she knew what they were for and how dangerous Cain's guns were, so no matter how pretty and shiny they seemed she'd never touched one. She nodded her promise to not mess with them, then giggled at the thought of Cain opening the box and finding instead of a couple dozen bullets a couple dozen cupcakes.

Probably squished cupcakes, because the IF seemed to disregard current available space just as much as it disregarded sound reason, but still cupcakes. Probably with pink frosting, just to try and ruffle Cain's proverbial feathers.

Before her mind could go off on a tangent about Cain with feathers, the skeleton caught her attention with a mini history lesson that had her eyes widening at the new knowledge.

*Oooohhhh! So that's why! I've always heard that nobles ate off of golden silverware, and that always sounded so funny to me, but since you told me that it makes sense too – having things to eat with made of silver and gold would mean you were very rich!* She tipped her head and thought a moment. *I think a noble once asked me to come to his manor, but something about him didn't feel right, so I said no. His daughter looked at me funny, like how I see some kids look at their toys.* Looking the belt over, Taki tied a knot in the end opposite the buckle (ending up having to tie it again to make sure it might stay put) to give her something of a place to grab and gave an experimental slap against the ground. She happily beamed at having a weapon, then coiled it and set it on the ground next to her. She yawned at Cain's comment about sleep, smiling up at him.

*As long as you're around, I'm not worried about wolves.* So said, Taki curled up next to him, soon sound asleep and purring under his touch and quite content.

Thankfully the adventuring band passed the rest night undisturbed, and the dawn broke chilly but otherwise quiet. As before, not even the birds sang, and the manor loomed in the faint distance. There would have been no further signs of life from it, not the lights Taki had seen or any sense of foreboding. Taki would sleep until either roused by Cain or perhaps a couple hours past sunrise, then sit up with a big yawn and rubbing one eye.

*Good morning!* she greeted cheerfully, as if camping outdoors in the shadow of some mysterious and quite likely dangerous manor was an everyday occurrence. She dusted herself off as she knelt there, clearing away durt and other such debris in the manner of a Myrgwae, then looked at the manor. *It... doesn't look quite so bad in the daylight.* While some of the fearsome aspect of it would be diluted in the (admittedly cloud-muted) sunlight, it would still look like a place no sane person was meant to wander.

Home... The Orb's 'voice' would be a faint whisper, tinged by both longing and sorrow. If he was aware of their surroundings, if he could actually see it, perhaps the Orb was seeing both what it looked like now and what it looked like in the past, missing one and mourning over the other.

Taki, still unable to hear him/it, was rummaging around in her bag for a bit of breakfast – several oat, fruit, and honey cake-bar-things that she would willingly share with anyone – then when Cain indicated the ready she'd hop up, shouldering her satchel and taking hold of her belt-weapon.

*Ready whenever you are!*

Cain watched Taki tested her new weapon against the ground and made a mental note to stay out of that weapon's range when possible. It wasn't the silver in the buckle he was worried about so much as the fact that buckle looked nice and sturdy. Flung through the air with as much force as physics and Taki could muster, it could make a decent size dent in most things. Such as his bones. Or more accurately, someone's skull. So even if it wasn't silver, it should still prove useful against more solid and less supernatural enemies.

As for being invited by a noble and having his daughter look at Taki like a toy, he had to guess that was pretty much what she would have been for them. A toy for the daughter. A tool for the noble. Not that Cain would ever say that thought out loud. Taki had made the right decision to avoid him and he hoped that sense of caution and weariness would help her out here as well.

Cain stayed awake all night, not that unusual for him. His thoughts wondered from this to that, but mostly it was almost like meditating. The silence were even more disturbing as the sun rose, but no bird song accompanied it. Such silence was not natural and just highlighted the danger of their quest even more. Not wanting to rouse Taki, Cain let her sleep till she just woke up naturally. There was no hurry that he knew of and it would be best if everyone that needed it got as much rest as possible.

At Taki's cheerfulness, Cain didn't even bother to repress his chuckle. Leave it to Taki to still be full of cheer even after the night they had. Turning to look back at the mansion, he nodded slowly. "Aye. Which might work in our favor. Maybe light is the weakness of whoever lives there now. At the very least, light might make their magics not as strong. Either way, it would be a boon to us." In what little sunlight there was, it still looked like a place one would avoid. Which is exactly what they weren't going to do.

The orb's voice was still faint, but Cain didn't miss its tone. He could understand what the orb was going through. Longing for what once was and sorrow at what it has become. He offered no words of reassurment or comfort though. There was really nothing he could say or do that would help the orb at the moment. Other than dispelling the threat and returning the orb home that is.

Brains took Taki up on some of her oats and fruit, chittering and chattering as she did so. Even the silence was making her uncomfortable and she was making noises to fill it. She was careful though to keep it down so that she wouldn't hide the approach of anything dangerous. Dorth informed Cain she would go hunting once Cain and Taki were on their way, only being a Between trip away should they need any dragon power while she was gone. Otherwise, she would remain as near as she could. She doubted that the orb would appreciate a dragon knocking down a wall or two unless absolute necessary.

Packing up the camp was just as efficient as setting it up. For the most part anyway. He didn't bother hiding the evidence of their night as their host already knew they were here. He gave his own once over of the camp before nodding to Taki, a skeletal grin on his face. "Ready. Let's head out."

Moving slowly and as out of sight of as many windows as possible, Cain lead the way to the mansion. Hearing straining to try and hear danger before it approached as well as any warnings the orb could offer them. Brains poked out of Cain's eye socket as Souna rode with Taki. Cain figured they were as ready as they could be for whatever awaited them. He just had to hope it would be ready enough.

Progressing through the snow-blanketed forest was a silent event, though through it all there was a continual sensation of being watched or stalked. No amount of looking around would reveal any threat or spy, however.

The final approach to the mansion itself would be the most harrowing part as many of the trees had been long-since removed, and those that remained were younger and had less width to act as concealment. Neither would be hindered however and reach the iron fence without difficulty.

Peering through the side spaces between the metal rods a front garden would reveal itself. In a time long ago it might have be quite lovely, with a maze now badly overgrown and likely impassible to the right, a dry fountain to the left with chips and cracks running all over it and one of the two dancing, twisting dragon images that formed its centerpiece was missing a wing, and wild ivy and grass covered every available inch of lawn it could find. Oddly though it shunned the fence entirely.

Further back a structure that once may have been a stable stood, rotting into shambles, and there was more grounds behind the manor, at least up until it met the cliffside and fell away to destruction below.

Abruptly Taki tugged on Cain't arm.

*Cain, look! The front door's open!* she gasped with a shiver, pointing. Indeed, one half of the front double doors hanging just enough ajar to be noticeable. *I don't think it was a second ago!* Journeyman, unnerved, burrowed his way under her hat to hide and she reached up a hand to stroke Souna on her shoulder. *This place... the entire building is... angry. It doesn't want us here at all! But... that means we should go in, right? That's what heroes do, and if something bad has taken over Mr. Orb's home then they should be made to leave.* Perhaps a very Taki way of putting it, but she at least was putting on a brave front.

Disregard the tail around Cain's tibia and fibula.

The gate for all its decrepit appearance would swing open at the lightest touch, and a chill wind bring the scents of decay and void of any life whatsoever to those that could smell it. Wisely, Taki would let Cain lead the way to wherever he wanted to investigate first.

The trip there was uneventful. No shadow wolves jumped out at them. No weird acting vines sprang up to attack them. Not even a fox scampering along their path, startled out of its hiding spot. Completely still and quiet. Once again, that unnerved him just a bit, but at the same time, it said a lot about their foe. They were patient. They could make a plan and stick to it. They weren't afraid to test the waters.

Combine with what he already knew, and he didn't like this creature one iota more than he did last night. In fact, he liked it even less.

The mansion and its grounds were a sight to behold. Once beautiful, it lay neglected and forgotten. Not by time though. That was a type of neglect that could be just as beautiful as the original structure once was. The rolling hills of parts of his own home proved that rightly enough. No. It was almost on purpose. With just enough up keep to make it noticeable as he looked along the fence. In a way, he felt sad for the property. For what was lost and gone far too soon in his opinion.

Feeling Taki's tail around his leg, he gave her hat a reassuring tug. The door caught his attention as Taki pointed out that it was open. "It would appear so. Maybe our host learned some manners after all?" Pulling out his knife, he touched the gate, not even surprised by how easily it swung open. He was more surprised at the fact that the house itself felt angry. He had to wonder if it was the building or the thing living inside the building. After some thought, he figured it could be either one. If left to rot like this, he would be pretty angry himself. If he could rot that is.

The maze. The front door. Or the stables. Those were his options it looked like and he knew wherever he went, he would take Taki with them. Each had their pros and cons. Each could be a deadly trap or just a simple walk through. He rejected the front door right now. That screamed trap right there and while he wouldn't mind walking into it to just get it over with, he didn't want to lead Taki there just let. The maze was low on his list too. Impassable to even someone as skinny as him, it would be a good place to leave their own traps...If they had the time that is. So that left the stables.

Just as likely to be a trapped like the front door, he didn't put it past their host to set up back up plans to back up plans if his guess about them was right. Banking on the fact that he might be wrong, and the fact that a rotted building was easier to get out of than the sturdier mansion, he started to move to the stables.

"Let's go explore the backside. If push comes to shove, we can go cliff diving and get picked up by Dorth." Which would actually be a fun experience if hey didn't have the evil entity in the house and the silent forest all around them. He would have to take her sometime if she wanted to. The feeling of weightlessness and the thrill of the wind rushing by you was an experience that Cain didn't mind repeating. So long as there wasn't a bath at the end of the fall.

Taki nodded in agreement, more than happy to let Cain take the lead. He was considerably more experienced at all of this than she was, explorer personality that is common to all Myrgwae or not! But the comment about possibly cliff-diving into Dorth's waiting grasp (or directly onto her back!) got a giggle.

*Maybe we could do that anyways!* she offered with a smile.

Moving around to the stables, they would look just as worn and decrepit as the rest of the manor, with holes in the roof and wide cracks in the walls that let a pale mist seep out... which was exactly the opposite of what mist was supposed to do. The temperature in the air would drop drastically as they drew closer, and Taki shivered, moving slightly around behind her skeleton friend and a hand holding to her hat nervously.

Approaching the two mostly-intact stable doors, Cain would hear something softly moving within, very faint, but definitely a movement that sounded oddly familiar to the skeleton.

Cain reached back and put his arm around Taki's shoulder. He couldn't offer much body heat (even his own Cuddlebug athid perferred the Fae over the skeleton when it came to warmth), but he could try to offer reassurance. That was a type of warmth right?

As they neared the door, the only thing about the stable that looked somewhat kept up especially compared to the rest of it, he heard a sound. It prickled something in his memory. Something he should know, but in the end, he couldn't quite place it. It was lost in the fog of time so that said it had been a long time since he had heard it. Shaking his head slightly, he moved a hand to the door. "You ready?"

He would wait for some affirmation before he would slowly open the door, being careful to keep back in case anything or one barreled out of the door with little warning. Not that ghosts usually do a lot, but Cain wasn't about to take a chance. Just cause the drop in temperature meant ghost usually, it didn't mean that is what they were dealing with here.

Even though she was nervous, Taki smiled when Cain put his arm around her. He definitely made the fae feel safe, even in such spooky environments.

As they beard the stable she swallowed heavily, fur raising a bit.

*Something - something's in there, Cain. And whatever it is, it's really angry!* She nodded when Cain asked her readiness, remaining half behind him but quietly bundling her fear into a ball of emotion; a Myrgwae's primary defense.

When Cain opened the door, however, and the resulting fog-like burst of frigid air passed, it quickly became clear how useless her Empathy would be in this case.

The inside of the stable would be as derelict as the outside. Eight stalls lined the sides, with a wide path between. And a snort and a hollow 'clop!' from a hoof that should no longer be capable of making noise would draw attention to the far back wall.

In the dim shadows an equine shape would move. Its eyes, mane, fetlocks, and tail would suddenly ignite illuminating the form fully: at first glance it might look like a soot-colored Firemane, until the translucent nature of its body registered. Through this the skeleton was visible, a rotting bridle and rein loosely hanging on to a head with no more flesh out muscle to cling to and tethering it to a nearby grooming post. At its hooves were humanoid bones, broken and scarred by predatory teeth; perhaps an unfortunate stablehand who chose to hide in the wrong place and became a starving Firemane's meal.

The Firemane shrieked an ear-splitting neigh, rearing up and snapping the reins, then charged towards the two in the doorway, even in death maddened by hunger and imprisonment. A quick dive by Cain would be their only salvation against such a creature that ran with impossible speed, missing them by mere inches before it galloped past then turned around, seeing up to attempt to run them down again!

"Blasted firemanes! Even dead, they still have their vile tempers." Cain wasn't overly fond of the fire horses. He found them a bit too temperamental to really have around. Not to mention, all it took was one forgetful moment and they were nipping or kicking you ever chance they got. And that was if you didn't have one of the more cruel or nasty tempered ones.

Quickly moving once they were out of danger, Cain attempted to usher Taki into one of the stalls. While if the firemane really wanted to, it could get in, Cain was hoping out of sight meant out of mind for the hungry hungry firemane. "Think ya can calm him down any?" Cain really didn't have time to wait for an answer though as Brains let out a chitter. The firemane was charging again.

Quickly moving away from the stall, he dodged once again with a dive. Souna flew up to the firemane in an effort to try and distract it, but a quick snort blew the little athid away. The skeleton didn't even bother hiding a sound that indicated he was wincing as Souna landed in some sort of...Well, Cain would rather not think about what sort of thing the firefly had landed in.

"Hey buddy. Why don't ya just come down and maybe we can get ya a nice rat ooooo-" The firemane had charged once more and Cain took another dive out of the way. Except this time, the firemane wasn't fooled in the least. With a speed that was almost unnatural (to be fair...Firemanes weren't natural to begin with and this one was a ghost), it lashed out with its mouth, catching Cain by the back of his shirt and tossing the skeleton into one of the stall doors. The sounds of wood splintering echoed through the air as the skeleton let out of groan.

Ah yes. Ghosts could easily touch him even without illogical field interference. Cain had briefly forgot that fact till just now.

As he struggled to gain his balance once more, the wood slipping and splintering even more under him, he cast around for anything he could use to feed this horse. Maybe a nice ghost goat? "Orb...Ya know anything about this firemane? If so...No would be a good time to share." His voice would be strained as he had to dodge a well placed back kick to the head. "The sooner the better if you please!"

Taki had screamed when the Firemane made its initial charge, though thankfully Cain's move had saved them both from harm, and she was more than happy to hide in the stall when he nudged her into there. The sides were higher than she was tall so she was nicely concealed from view.

*I'll try!* she replied to his request, trying to settle herself enough to focus her abilities. She Empathically touched upon the creature, and recoiled in response to the sheer hostility and pure hatred it had built up like a wall in front of her. She bit back another shriek when Cain went through the stall door to her side, her almost constant contact with him making her aware of his pain and determination. She had to do something!

My father's... the Orb hauntingly replied, though it seemed as if his hesitation came from searching for memory rather than weakness; the tone was more composed now. He - he never really liked anyone but my father. It doesn't surprise me that when my father was slain, he became enraged and refuses to leave the world. He - ah! My father once said he was abandoned by his Inferno because he had a weak right hind legbone! It was broken when he was a foal, and even after my father had it healed it was never quite as strong. You might be able to target it! To one with a knowledge of bone such as Cain's, when the flaw was pointed out the exact place where the bone had healed was clear, a line of off-color white barely the width of one of Taki's fingers.

Speaking of the Myrgwae, Taki had readied herself and made a mental push to try and break through the wall of fury - and when she did so, she screamed, falling back into the stall and curling up against the whirlwind of soul-ripping grief and pure, white-hot rage that had been bottled up for who knew how long, with no way to release it or get vengeance. At the sound of her scream, a noise most of the darker-hearted hell horses rather enjoyed, the beast pivoted around to look in the direction of the stall.

The weakness was easy to spot once he knew where to look. Bones had a lovely habit of remodeling when broken and he was glad to see that was still the case here. Illogical field involvement not withstanding of course. The thin line would have been easy to miss though if not pointed out. It would have been hard to see if the firemane had been nice enough to stand still. With all the charging and jumping around, it was nearly impossible to find without some help.

Cain's head snapped toward the stall where he had slipped Taki. The scream rebounded in his skull as he let out a string of curses. He didn't know what had happened exactly. All he knew was that the scream had pain in it and he somehow felt responsible for it. Hadn't he asked her to calm it down? Hadn't he asked that of her, thinking it was a good way to keep her safe? He hadn't expected it to cause her pain, but that didn't stop him from berating himself any less. He should have known better. Should have known that a creature like that would be filled with such pain and such grief, that it could only lash out full force on anyone with emphatic abilities.

He should have known better.

Deciding that he could get to mentally kicking himself later, he put his bony fingers into his mouth and let out a shrill whistle. While it worked better on someone who had lips, he had found throughout the years, he could do a pretty good job by angling his bony fingers just right. Least it should work well enough to get the beast's attention back on him. As if that wasn't enough. Brains decided to help out by climbing atop Cain's skull and started letting out high pitch shrills in the firemane's direction.

Once the firemane's focus was back on them, Cain would dodge the charge again. This time he was more mindful of where that mouth was as Brains took shelter inside his skull. Fool him once, shame on...Well, we all know the saying.

As he passed that hand leg, he drew back an arm and grabbed the lower part of the firemane's leg, just below the line. His other arm came up to grab at the area just above the line and he twisted it. Like a zigzag line, he moved his hands in opposite directions, hoping to if not break the leg again, at least cause the firemane a lot of pain. Either one would be fine with him.

Though after the scream Taki had let out, he was definitely hoping for a break and a lot of pain. Double whammy was perfectly alright with him.
