Some strange song would find the center of each called forth. A wordless voice concentrated on the spirit's need to discover whatever could be found. It was light, but heavy in its pull. The reason for the evening's adventure had cropped up somewhere beyond the coast. Those who answered the tune would be tugged toward the sea. A line of small boats awaited them. Each varied in size, color, and material. They all seemed to come from different places,

Climbing in and sailing off, the song continued, showed them the way. It led them through a thick fog that mysteriously lifted as a small piece of land came into view. The sand stretched up to a green hill that had sprouted something mysterious. It reached from the little island to the heavens, an illogical force causing a type of aurora to form, the colors thick and bright enough to void the stars. It almost appeared to be a platform for the divines, if there happened to be such a thing. The fact that it could only be seen from the island gave more reason to find out what was up there.

When the song ceased, the source could be seen. She rose from behind the massive plant, and approached anyone who decided to go along with her. Raeneth appeared to be less sickly than usual. She wore her black leather armor, and carried a dark-bladed dagger at both sides. On her back was a large empty bag, no doubt for storing possible items of value.

To the ones who would join her, she spoke.

"If you're prepared, we're going to climb that," she said, pointing to the plant that penetrated the colorful clouds above, "And no cheating. If someone has to climb with their bare hands, you do too."

With no more to say, she ran up the side, grabbing onto a leaf stem and starting toward the place above.

((Everybody up!))

Anari wasn't typically the sort to follow strange songs. She'd heard well enough about sirens and such before to be wary, but for some odd reason this time it had been more curiosity than compulsion that had driven her to follow.

When she had found the boats, it had been little thought to climb into one that was simple and undorned, much as the fishing boats from her childhood home had been, and paddle through the fog and mist until she island came into sight, with it's rather breath-taking feature. Never before had she seen a plant - was that a plant? - that looked more rainbow than living. It was beautiful! She moored her little boat on the beach, such as it was, and approached just in time to see Raeneth appear. She'd never really spoken with the woman before, but it seemed she might have some idea what was going on, so following was a good idea, right?

Looking up, Anari couldn't help but wonder if her leg could manage the climb, then just decided the best option was to go ahead and do it, reached up as she'd seen Raeneth do, and began climbing.

"Out of curiosity," she called over as she began making her way up, "why do we all have to climb the same way?"

It wasn't every day Shrayla heard a veritable siren's song calling her off to parts unknown.

Theoretically, she knew better than to follow.

Realistically, curiosity was going to be the death of her someday. Common idiom spoke of curiosity killing the cat, but the same went for dogs. Shrayla's survival instinct put in its one token protest and then gave up. Dumb dog was going to follow the weird song and that was a given.

At least she had company.

Valen spent half of the walk to the seaside flying in circles around Shrayla, who walked too slowly apparently, and the other half he spent perched on her shoulder, like some vigilant little gargoyle. Except he was a Firelizard, not a real Gargoyle, and Shrayla had come to appreciate that this world apparently had a stark difference between the two.

Shrayla found an elven raft amongst a whole fleet of small boats awaiting on the shoreline, and saw another woman in another boat not far ahead of her. She took the raft and followed the song and the other woman.

To an island.

And a giant plant. With a giant rainbow aura.

One of Shrayla's wolf-like ears stood up, and the other pressed flat and sideways in her confusion. "Now that's weird. See that, Valen? Because I haven't and I've seen a whole lot of weird. That's just...brilliant."

She was speaking fairly literally, too, given how shiny the giant plant was.

And then the cat-eared woman stepped out from wherever she'd been tucked and Shrayla's ears both stood straight up in immediate recognition. "It's you, from the fog with the rats," the werewolf blurted, and then, ears pressing down and back with minor embarrassment, "Sorry. Not many familiar faces around here these days."

Charming social butterfly, our Shrayla.

That was a joke.

The other two women started climbing and Shrayla did too, grabbing a petiole and easily levering herself up. "I 'unno," she added once the flail-wielding woman asked the cat-eared woman why they all had to climb the same way. "It's good exercise. Probably stealthier than magic, too."

Perhaps realizing she was beginning to sound like an idiot, Shrayla then shut her mouth and focused on just climbing without embarrassing herself further, Valen on her shoulder, shaking his tiny little head at her social blundering.

James was certain this was a terrible idea. He had only been in this land briefly, and during his time all he had accomplished was bonding with a fiery bird that seemed hell bent on driving him insane. And followed a strange song to a island. Which had amgiant plant growing out it.

Even stranger was the group of people who were climbing it. He shrugged his pack, maybe a little harder than necessary. Sparky had situated himself in his pack. When the bird had landed on his boat and claimed to be tired of flying, James paid little attention. Up until he announced he was gonna sleep in his bag. James almost busted out laughing.

"There's no way your fitting in there, sparks!" James remembered calling. Then promptly shut up when the Phoenix bent himself into a knot and rolled in. He was sure if sparky had lips, he giving him a 'I told you so.' Grin. He then chose to nip at James fingers when he's trying to reach in. Each time he could feel the birds laughter.

He wandered to the stalk and looked up. It was as if the earth wanted to grab the heavens with a green arm. He could feel a nervous shudder from Sparky.

"Worried?" He said, sending a mock and sarcastic feeling towards him.

'For you, maybe. I can fly!' He chided back.

James nodded, he looked up again. "Then just sit back relax. It's gonna be a long climb." He said as he leaped and grabbed a leave stem. Pulling himself up, fist over fist.

The demon rolled her eyes at Shrayla. I think I'll just ignore that.

On the way up, she could hear Anari's question. Her tail twitched, looking as though it just bent. In her head, she hadn't pictured the kind of team that this was turning out to be. The one with the more wolf-like features was trying to answer, and that wasn't how things were meant to go. She growled lightly, forcing it down, though her tail puffed, looking more like a floofy pipe cleaner. Her climbing halted, and looking down, she dropped to a big leaf and held on to the stem.

"We climb this way because I say we do. What, you want me to carry you?"

The last part was said with a laugh. Raeneth wasn't carrying anyone unless they had bloody stubs for legs. She took notice of James making his way up as well, but had no extra words for him. He had a strange scent that she was wary of. She hurried toward their destination, throwing herself from stem to stem until she was far enough ahead to climb normally and keep her distance from the others.

Minutes into their climb, a light whistle, like that of a wind through treetops came down to meet them. Raeneth paused.

Appearing about our heroes were four massive monarchs. They looked inviting in flight. The demon chose one, a brightly colored individual, and swinging back and forth on a stem, she leapt onto it. The butterfly took a circle and flew upward quickly.

If the others followed suit, they would go in the same direction, and be let down in a thick, grassy region. The grass was as tall or taller than the few, the longest blades at least ten feet tall. The demon looked around and to the rest.

"Okay. Let's go!"

She headed north. The direction of the others was up to them, but if they wanted to follow, Raeneth was ready to lead.

((This will get a little more interesting next round!))

Anari frowned slightly at Raeneth, not quite sure what to make of the woman's behavior. From all appearances she had been the one to gather then, yet was acting almost... she didn't quite have a word for it. Careless wasn't it, but neither was dismissive, and it certainly wasn't courteous.

Oh well. She'd already set out to do this, and Anari wasn't one to quit!

It wasn't long before her leg burned from the effort, and she had to pause periodically to pant and recover, clinging to a stem with her right leg dangling to ease the ache. So it was with more than a little relief that she spotted the butterflies (though their sheer size was a little daunting) and saw Raeneth jump onto one. Had she called them? Were they the reason they had to climb like this, because only upon one of these creatures could one get to their destination? More mysteries.

When she reached the level where they were at, she was closest to one that was actually more a blueish-white with the black than orange. It seemed to be waiting for her, so she took a page from the demon's book and swung out (much easier on the legs!) to land on its back, clutching to the body as it carried her up.

Flying on a butterfly through clouds beside a rainbow plant... this sounds like something I might have imagined as a child in the temple! And a part of her was thinking that this was quite a bit of fun!

Where they landed, well, that just emphasized the child-like nature of the thought. The grass towered over the woman like trees themselves, and suddenly explained much the nature of her conveyance there. Absently Anari touched the side of one of the grass blades, awestruck, then turned at Raeneth's call. Deciding that it would be best, as the other female seemed to know what she was doing, Anari followed north.

((Found this and had to put it! It's the Butterfly Anari rode up on. Who knew?))

The thief's tail would wave back and forth as the tall grass thickened around her. She disappeared into it, but the sound of footsteps would hurry away. It was like the demon had heard or seen something.

Anari could follow the prints left behind, but she would hear something to the east.

It was a hissing, a rattling, as if of bone, a thing that neared this warrior alone. The click of his maw, the wind of his tail, she could hear him quite clearly should her hearing not fail. His pace was a quick one, while he slithered through grass. If she wanted escape, she'd have to hurry her ass! She could choose to fight this creature instead, but she would have to think fast, or she could end up dead.

The others would hear him, to the north and the east, they would need to decide if they would face this beast.

((Short for now, but necessarily so. Still open.))

Hearing the approaching menace, Anari spun about, seeking for her impending foe, then whirled her flail from its holder and set it spinning. But rather than face it immediately, the former lieutenant took a slightly smarter approach, dashing away and finding a massive rock (in truth, it was comparatively only about five inches high, but at her current height it was monumental!) and threw her back against it. Better to have her fighting room cut down, then let whatever it was have her back! At the same time, she shouted as loud as the could to the others:

"I may need help here!"

(sorry for the super late reply! I honestly thought I'd already posted here until I was going through my 'to post' list!)

James dismounted his flying steed, unsure on what about what he was stepping into. Maybe climbing a giant plant wasnt the smartest move he made today. His only way down would be finding a huge butterfly, or jumping.

He looked around for his new found comrades. Yet the alarmingly huge grass made visibility a luxury. He started making his way through. Partly hoping he wasn't stranded on this.... Island? Regardless, he wasn't exactly ready to be stranded here.

He walked till he heard a faint shout. Either it was one of his new teammates, or a horrible trap... Either way, it could be fun.

He rushed towards the shout. Pulling out his revolvers.
