A Giant Egg; Okay, giant is an understatement.

The pain suddenly disappeared. Like it hadn't even been there. But that couldn't be right. Ah. There it was. The sudden dampening of it had her brain fooled for a moment, but it was still there. Just not as sharp this time. She didn't know that Larandaithie had also strengthened her bones as well. "Thank you.."

That was all she really wanted to say at the moment. She had no idea when the spell would end and she would rather not be caught with her mouth completely open. She didn't like the idea of drowning very much.

All of sudden, Tide could feel a sudden vibration throughout the water. She was fairly sure it wasn't coming from the water itself, but rather from the walls maybe? She didn't really dwell on it though as the gate rose and the water lost almost all of its pressure. It didn't last long though. Just when Tide thought they could probably just float out of here, the pressure was back and she thought it was even stronger than ever. Then again, that could be because instead of being just stuck up against the gate getting squished to death, they were rocketing down the tunnel at insane speeds. At least insane to her. Needless to say, she hadn't really flown on dragonback when they went into a dive or she probably would have made a more accurate comparison.

Left. Right. Left again. Left. Right. It was like walking down a curving path. At one point, Tide would even swear she was upside down. Then again, it was hard to know which way was up and which way was down at this point. Not to mention, everything was going by so fast that Tide didn't even know where they were going to end up or even if they were just making one, long, continuous loop around.

A buzzing could be heard. Up ahead of them. Well, there goes the continuous loop theory out the window. She was pretty sure she would have remember the sound of water crashing down from somewhere high if they had passed it by before. Either that, this was a loop with lots of different levels. She really hoped that wasn't the case as she suddenly found herself airborne.

Or course she wasn't the only one airborne. There were the others. The healer. The werewolf. The elf. The Angel...Wait a minute. When did an Angel get here? Last she knew it was just the four of them. When did he show up? Then again, she vaguely recalled the person holding her biting into someone so that might have been then? Tide didn't know. The glowing fungus wasn't bright enough for her eyes to be able to pick up on much. All she knew was that suddenly everyone was shot out of the water like a cannon.

Not about to miss this opportunity, Tide took a huge, gulp of air gratefully. And she was falling. A scream escaped her mouth as she suddenly hit the water with quite a bit of force. If Shrayla still had a hold of all this time, Tide would actually be quite amaze and impressed as that landing just took all the breath she had taken in away from her. Water entered her mouth and as she popped back up, she spit it all out. Coughing and hacking, she noticed the pool here had a lot less current pressure. That and she couldn't touch bottom. Doggie paddling around and staying in the general area, she tried to do a floating head count. To make sure everyone wasn't sinking like rock.

Hearing Ashyana's voice, she knew there was one. She made too. Now to just find the other three. She was fairly sure they were gonna be okay, but she didn't want to leave the water until she either knew they were all above water or on the shore. After all, she would rather be safe than sorry.

As the gate lifted and the water's velocity picked up, hurtling the trapped crew along it's jarring passage, Keldos desperately scrambled to both keep his wings tucked in and keep a grip on whomever he could, Tide one moment and Shrayla the next, and even Larandaithiel came within his grasp only to be snatched away by the next harsh impact against his back. Thankfully, any cracked ribs or abrasions would quickly mend, thanks to the angelic regeneration.

His wing slamming into the walls, ceiling, and floor however... oh, that hurt! Even through the protection of his other wings, the pain was almost enough to make the Solarian general pass out, were it not for the simple fact that to black out here would likely mean worse injury, if not death. (Contrary to popular belief on some worlds, Solarian angels could perish, if their wounds were grave enough)

Just when he was wondering if he could endure another blow, Keldos heard the sound of the waterfall, and just as he could realize the truth of the matter experienced it first-hand, launching into the open air along with everyone else.

Your wings, Archangel! Use your wings! instinct screamed loudly in his head, a jangle defying death. Echoing the scream was a mental cry from Zalanth, and even beneath that, deeper than instinct and dragon and personal desire, rang the Chorus, calling - no, demanding - that its Firstborn Firstborn do whatever it took to survive this.

Keldos' primary and tertiary wings snapped out with a wet, almost slap-like sound and stiffened tight. With the feathers soaked as they were, even his impressive shoulder strength wouldn't be enough to actually fly.

But holding them straight like this, he could most certainly glide!

This act could likely save himself, easily, but he was an angel after all and there were some instincts that no angel could deny, including the one to save as many as they could when others were in danger. Quickly his hands reached out, and one caught hold of the back of Larandaithiel's shirt. The added weight jarred him some, but he maintained a controlled descent. He tried to maintain a grip on Ashyana but the elf bravely shoved away from him, allowing herself to fall. And just as quick as this, the others were beyond his reach, impacting the water below.

"Hold tight to me; do not let go!" he urged the weyrhealer, who might notice that though there was blood staining his tunic there were no marks of the bite and torn flesh. "I will ensure you get to land safely... though I cannot catch the others." The lament in his voice would show that though the others might splash down in relative safety, Keldos did feel guilt for his inability even if he knew there was no way to change things at the present. Circling on four wings, the archangel whirled lower and lower with a skill borne of much practice at the flying arts, and eventually reached the stone 'shore' below. Gently setting Larandaithiel down, he knelt by the water to start helping out those who made it to safety, asking each in turn, "Are you badly harmed?"

But he kept a keen eye on the whirlpool. If anyone was seeming to be struggling, then he had no qualms with leaping back in to help them, broken wing or no broken wing!

Anari flinched as the triad of lights caused a burst of prismatic beams, searing through the beetles and destroying them, but leaving her and her ally unharmed. One of the beams even passed so close she could have reached out and touched it, had she the courage to risk it.

Then it was gone, and other than a rumbling that passed underfoot all became still and silent.

Anari paused a moment to get a look around at their current situation. Aside from a few scratches and bruises, and the slicing bites from the beetles, she and Naya seemed relatively unscathed. Certainly the shapeshifter was a skilled warrior! The lieutenant also noted the pair of dragons in the sky, which caused her quite a start and made her take a step towards shelter, until she recognized one as Girith whom she was somewhat familiar with. (when he had found out about her history with dragons, Raferties had been insistent that he help her in her dealings with dragons) The other, larger red was more of a concern, but she told herself that if she could trust Girith who wasn't aggressive towards his fellow in the air, perhaps it was safe.

"Well fought! Looks like that was the last of them, though I don't see anything different. What could those levers have done?" She looked around, but as far as she could see everything was as it had been prior to the collapse of the statue-fountain. "All seems normal. Oh! Pardon my manners - in all that I didn't get a moment to introduce myself." Anari gave a small bow at the waist, hands somewhat out to the sides in both a gesture of 'I trust you won't attack me' and 'I'm not threatening to you' (such symbolism and gestures were ground into her head as a child, and at times crucial in her old world, so those old habits would likely never leave her). "I'm Anari Warden, and these are Rannegar -" She gestured to the sphinx, who padded to her side and licked on a shoulder cut. "- and Aegis, my friends." The grphon inclined his head in greeting, though was silent as he listened for further trouble or signs of activity. "I don't see any other beetles around, and things sound quiet. Perhaps we should make our way towards the Egg itself." Anari abruptly caught herself and had the dignity to blush a bit at her presumptuousness. "That is, if you would want to come with me. We seem to fight well together, after all. At least we handled those pests just fine."

In any event, we should probably keep moving, Aegis finally spoke up, ears swiveling and eyes glancing left and right. I believe during the battle I heard sounds of conflict coming from elsewhere, and when the beams of light appeared I thought I saw a flash of armor over the ruins. Unless there is another here who wears armor and can fly, I believe there are allies here as well. Anari nodded, then motioned that she would lead the way if Naya wanted her to, heading towards the distant stairs and the Egg.

(522 words, and each of Anari's dialogue was differed. I had to play with chromatic dragons this round - Red, Blue, Green, White, Black, then a fade called 'Dragons of Pern' XD)
Note: Until further stated, Scarheart, Belial, and Cassandra have standing permission to powerplay Raferties or Anari.

(Is Naya abled to hear Aegis? I'll type a respond later xD Edit: answered thank you ;D)

Selena looked anxiously at the Djinn who had nearly collapsed.
"Are you alright, Cass?"
she asked while quickly heading to her and supporting her as she got up again. Looking down on her she saw that while there were some scratches in her clothes the slashes in her skin had already healed.
"Looking at my clothes I probably had gotten some scratches, but they are already gone. My body generates itself quite quickly"
She said with a shrug.
"I'm ready to go whenever you are."

(gonna wait n Foxie I guess :D
I'm not gonna hit the 500 words probably, but I used different fades :D

Somehow I feel more like writing out Naya than Selena. Maybe because Naya is 'newer'. Since Sel (just as a wolf) if my fursona^^)

Naya literally froze as the world around her nearly exploded in lightbeams of all colours, especially since it seemed to be harmful. At least to those beasts of bugs, but she wouldn't miss them at all.
After the magic around her calmed down she turned towards Anari and her companions, still being on her guard. After being introduced to Anari and her companions and recognizing the ancient gesture of trust between two warriors she calmed down and even started to more or less relax Anari made the mistake of simply presuming that she was coming with them and the kitsune nearly let out a snarl. She couldn't stand it when people just assumed that she was going to do what they wanted her to do, but quickly calmed down again as the warrior sort of excused herself. Thinking about it for a few seconds Naya needed to agree, the two of them did fought well together and the women seemed to be okay so they might as well team up. After all she didn't atack her and offered her the same trust. And she also needed to agree with the Gryphon, keep moving was probably the best plan. After deciding that she thought she might as well introduce herself to them.
"I'm Naya."
She nodded towards them before looking at the giantic egg.
"We might as well find out what is causing all this happenings together. At least we have a better chance if we need to fight again, you are a good fighter. I'd like to ask about that trick with the sword in the ground though. My nose tells me you're human and I don't sense any magic around you."
She said with a smile, allthough her look in the eyes was awake and still a little doubtfully.

(someone being okay is a big compliment for them from Naya XD

Cassandra nodded, shaking off the sensation and choosing to ignore it altogether. "It will fade. I'm sure. Let's go."

Flashing a quick smile to Selena as a silent 'thank you', Cassandra glanced over the two, especially noting the slight scratches that were fading. "That's a rather useful quality, I would say. Not too common. If you don't mind me asking, where did you pick up that kind of gift, Selena?"

They continued to walk towards the would-be-fountain, all accompanying would notice Cassandra's steps growing slowly more assured the farther away from the monolith they grew. Finally, the Djinn released a small sigh as she could feel, albeit gradually, her magic not feeling quite so drained.

"There.. well, that feels better! Now let's see about this... what happened here? This looks recent, doesn't it..?"

Looking around the clearing that once contained the fountain, Cassandra was baffled. In place of (though she had no idea what really had existed here before this occurrence) the fountain was now a gaping hole with rushing water bubbling and frothing out at the edges. Blinking a couple of times, she carefully edged closer, though honestly did not want to go for a swim unless it was necessary. There were signs in the general area that a dragon had once been here, judging by the scratches on the stone. Her Master, Scarheart's training was slightly showing off, there... though she had no idea anything other than a creature in general had been there and she recognized the markings that Qarath made occasionally when he was annoyed.

She glanced around the clearing, trying to see any additional sign of what had happened and if there was even anything left in this clearing.

((I don't know if any of the lingering creatures would be in the area after the beetle assault, so I figured their owners can mention them if they are and that Cassandra just missed them in her first glance around. Also, I'm sorry that a couple of the fonts are so light... but it can't be helped -- every attempt I made had at least a couple words faded into horrendously light colors.. so just highlight, lmao!))

Foxie trotted over to where the fountain had once been, glancing around in case anything tried to sneak up on them. Rose smiled softly. No harm would come to her charge while she was around, so his worry was unnecessary.

She looked over to Cassandra and Selena, tilting her head as she observed the gaping hole, and her eyes narrowed slightly. She could sense that there was danger just around the corner, but she had no idea where it would come from, or when...though she had the feeling that it might come from the water itself.

Hopefully she was wrong, and nothing would happen after all...

(Permission to powerplay Belial for a bit given by Heron. Until further notice, they will be together in one post, though I understand if both won't count for the challenge. This is mostly to keep Belial in play while Heron deals with outside things.)

Belial had been relieved to see the dragons appear, as it helped lessen the horde that assaulted both himself and his angel though it wasn't quite enough to prevent both of them from taking wounds. Through their bond they were each aware of the times the other was struck, but thankfully they were also aware of the minor nature of these wounds. For the most part they were closing as fast as they were caused; it was the sheer number of the things that posed any sort of a threat. Raferties' use of calling for the spirits was certainly something that likely only an angel would think of, but as the prismatic beams flashed at the end and destroyed the beetles, it seemed the proper call.

At nearly the same point in time, however, he felt a sharp pain against the back of his head that the devil quickly realized wasn't his own pain, and he spun around to see Raferties recoiling from the obelisk that had been behind him, dazed and eyes rolling.

"Raferties!" He was quick to the Lorekeeper's side, propping him up and checking the back of his head. A small patch of bloodied hair, but the angel's regeneration was already closing the wound, and even now he was stirring. "Look at me. Do you know where we are?" Raferties groaned softly, wincing, then lifted his head to find Belial.

"Atop a hill, where a giant egg has appeared, and - the beetles! Did the combination work?" Belial tucked a smirk into the corner of his mouth, even as he helped Raferties stand when the angel moved to try, letting him lean on his shoulder (that Raferties was a bit taller made this work quite nicely).

"Yes, it seems it did. They are all gone, and we are free to continue back up the stairs, if you feel up to it." Raferties nodded that he felt well enough to, and followed Belial back up.

"What of Keldos? Have you see him?" asked Raferties as they finally crested the rise and he was able to look out over the ruins once more, with Girith and Kivalth circling overhead. Belial shook his head as he knelt beside the mysterious box again.

"No, I haven't. Not since he took off to see what was going on at the statue." He looked over his shoulder to catch the concerned expression on his mate's face. "I wouldn't worry about him. He's an archangel, after all. They're almost as hard to kill as an archdevil." Raferties slowly nodded, taking a breath to try and relax his nerves before turning to the cube.

"You are right - I should trust in Keldos and his skill, though that will not stop my worry. I just also know that i can do nothing at the moment, but hope that finally solving this mystery will somehow aid him in whatever he has gotten into. Right now, that means decoding this mystery before us, as I feel the spirit left is to assist." He joined the devil in kneeling at its side, pausing to give a quick kiss - he could sense that he'd worried Belial for a moment there, and in truth had been worried himself seeing the multitude of cuts and marks from the beetles upon his devil - then turned his gaze to the matter at hand. ogress?"

"Yes... I think I just about have it, at least enough to read the writing along the stairs... yes, this last rune lines up with what I thought. Lets check the stairs again. Maybe there's another clue to the cube there, or at least to something about the egg or who built this place." Raferties nodded in agreement, and together they went to check the stairs once more, while the pair of dragons continued to circle overhead watching both for more trouble and the progress of those below.

From here on out, the completion of challenges will increase your end-event reward, since the community has hit the required 90 points for unlocking.

This Section's Challenge

So, whether or not we as 'dreamers' like it, there is so much that has already been done in the world, its nigh impossible to make something truly and utterly original. This session, we embrace those inspirations in all their glory!

At some point during your post for each character, use a quote from a t.v. show, movie, book, or song that inspires you. This should -definitely- be dialogue, and make sense to the story. In example, one of my favorite movies is Devil's Advocate, with Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves.

"...I’m a fan of man! I’m a humanist. Maybe the last humanist. Who, in their right mind, Kevin, could possibly deny the 20th century was entirely mine? All of it, Kevin! All of it! Mine! I’m peaking, Kevin. It’s my time now. It’s our time." - Al Pacino as Satan, Devil's Advocate

To complete this challenge, pick a quote you really enjoy, and have your character say it. At the end of the post, in the out of character section, use the quote again and cite its source.

Do these two simple steps, for 5 Event Points!

Above the Stone
The beetles' bodies lie strewn about the ruins only briefly, as the same colorful light wraps around their shattered carapaces and dissolves them into nothingness, not even leaving behind dust.

The spirits that quickly assembled to help convey messages all vanish back to whatever ethereal realm they once resided. The shaking comes to a slow and gentle stop, leaving new billows of dust rising into the air, though the thick cloud overhead remains parted by the skyward lights.

Now that attention was once again upon the steps that wound up the side of a cliff, and the egg resting above, all could see red energy now coursing through the gigantic cradle of life above the ruins. Like magical cracks making lightning-like jags throughout the exterior, the red glow was slowly intensifying. The words along the wall on the interior of the steps now glow with the same bright redness.

Belial, Raferties, Anari, Naya

The words along the wall by the stairs, while glowing, were no more obvious than they were previously. As Anari and Naya got closer, they could see Belial and Raferties going over the words carefully, the cipher collage guiding them word by word. After several feet, the message was now clear to understand for the linguistic devil and lorekeeper:

It was a Warning

"Our world is truly older than we can imagine, but there are worlds - older still. We, the Keepers of Life, implore thee to await for the moment of crest awakening, when the energy of the terrible beast within is most weak. Before the shell breaks and the creature is freed, destroy it with fire and light, steel and claw! Otherwise, The Eater of Worlds awakens."

Cassandra, Selena, Foxie

A gaping hole with rushing water. You can see the signs that people were here most recently, especially as their companions linger nearby. Indeed, there must be someone down there in all that water. Even as you stand there, watching the rushing, crystal clear water, something dark suddenly goes past with the direction of the tide.

Dark, Black, massive and long, with writing tentacles trailing behind it like a squid, though terrible barbs and blades line these tentacles. A gaping but angular maw leads the way, as it seems to be chasing behind the creatures that may have gone before you into the deep.

To Those Lost Souls Beneath the Stone

As Ashyana stood upon the bank, her eyes slowly adapting to the darkness with only the faint glow from the plants illuminating the way, she saw a steel glimmer from beneath the water. There it was, her slow-forged katana impaled in the bank of rock, some 20 feet below the surface of the whirlpool...

Thanks to the intense efforts of Tidesweep and Keldos, the unconscious Shrayla and Weyrhealer Larandaithiel were dragged to the stone shore safely. It might be some time before they'd come to, but they certainly weren't drowning.

Finally, the lot of them could take a deep breath to stare beyond at the rune-lined chamber. With their breath finally restored, the pain and anguish slowly settling to a dull throb, the company could see the writing on the walls glowing with a faint red trim, slowly intensifying. The doors at the end of the corridor ahead of them opening on their own, revealing a bright, golden light from beyond.

However, before even the first step could be taken to draw closer to the golden light or the glowing words, a deep growl shook the underbelly of the ruins. First, tentacles shot out from within the watery tunnel the heroes used to arrive here. Then came the gaping maw, snapping at the air with hunger and agitation. Hundreds, if not thousands, of snapping teeth lined its mouth and the body truly had no definable form, almost seeming to change and alter with the creature's whim.

Long tentacles reach past the whrilpool toward the unconscious victims of the water's power; without interference, they will become the meals of the hungry titan.

(At this point, the adventure is drawing toward its climax, feel free to post as much as you like before the next update in 1 week.)

Elsewhere
Zeeno was an explorer by nature, but apparently, it was also his nature to accidentally do things with great ramifications, for the better, or for the worse - and in this case, it was for the better. In finding his prize, he had thrown an ancient lever connected to the underwater mechanisms, allowing them free movement as opposed to being in their locked state.

Scarheart slowly regained consciousness inside that tunnel, laying upon the bank. He felt how the little man had tended to his injuries, although such a thing was far from necessary - the gesture was still very much appreciated, though he had no clue who had done such a thing.

Gathering his few belongings, he had no choice now but to wander ever inward, following the flow of the river as it wound deeper into the earth.

Cassandra blinked a couple of times as she stared down at the passing creature. A part of her thought it would be a good idea to move as far away from this location as possible...

The other part of her reminded her politely that she was technically immortal and that she didn't know who had fallen into this churning pool. Who knew if any villagers or any of the heroes from the Weyr were in danger down there? The Djinn bit her lip and glanced across to the other two that stood nearby.

No. I'm not getting wet.

She glanced down at the Hellhound that was glaring at her ferociously. "What?"

I know what you're thinking. You saw that shadow and now you think you need to go for a cool dip in the squid infested water. My answer is no. He sat with an indigent look on his face as Cassandra frowned and shifted from foot to foot.

"But.."

Nope. What do you think you can do to hurt something that looked like it could swallow you whole?

Cassandra debated, her gaze focusing hard on the water and the now memory of what she had seen down there. She had made up her mind. "Sorry, Elsharaz. Stay dry, if you want."

Before anyone else could try to convince her otherwise, Cassandra took a breath and dropped in to the bubbling water to get swept away and hopefully catch up to the creature ahead.

Elsharaz closed his eyes, a look of irritation on his mug as he muttered dryly in their mental connection, How bad is it?

Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing... are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly Reaper mowing? Yes! The danger must be growing... She returned to his mind, then paused, realizing she'd rhymed. Sorry.

I'll just be happy when you have all that Castle out of your system.

With a look to the other two, the Hellhound sighed and gave a mock bow, lowering his head as he spoke to them, Well, the suspense is terrible... I hope it'll last. And with that, he jumped in to follow his bonded.

As Zeeno managed to return to the spot where he had left the hurt man, he noticed that the man was stirring slightly. Obviously, the poor little creature could have no idea that Scarheart was not threatening... so he hid behind a grouping of rocks and stayed as absolutely quiet as he possibly could.

Soon, he heard the man getting up and beginning on his path down the tunnel, but Zeeno couldn't contain his curiosity. So, against the fear that he harbored deep, Zeeno crept behind his 'patient'. Unfortunately for Zeeno, even though he was rather skilled at sneaking, that mattered little for a blind man's exceptional hearing.

After a couple of moments of walking, Scarheart turned around, glaive drawn and poised to attack whoever was attempting to ambush him. Zeeno shrieked and hunkered down. "No hurts! I's help you! Give you Grey Duck to stop blood! No poke me!" His eyes closed, he covered his head to prevent any major amount of damage from occurring to him.

Scarheart, a bit confused about this situation, slowly lowered his weapon and tilted his head to gauge the scene around him a little better. It still didn't quite make sense... "Who are you and what are you doing down here? I don't like anyone following me if I don't know why they are."

Zeeno blinked and perked up a bit to look at Scarheart. "Well, I don't join up with anyone, unless I know where they're going. I's Zeeno."

Hren smiled in bemusement at the little creature. "So.. you know where I am going?"

"Of course! That way." Zeeno pointed, like it was obvious, down the passageway and the ranger had to prevent himself from laughing, though he submitted to just nodding as he heard the movement of Zeeno's arm indicating his answer.

"I understand... but what are you doing down here, Zeeno?"

Zeeno didn't really know by this point... he had found a bauble... he had found a dead-man and fixed him... what else was he doing down here? Pausing and frowning, Zeeno pondered this for a couple moments before grinning, remembering something he had seen at one point. "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum." Perfect.

This utterly baffled Scarheart, now... but by this point, he had begun to understand that this odd new 'friend' was not like anyone else he had met previously in his centuries of life.

Even as Scarheart stood there, Zeeno pulled out a small rodent from his bag and pet it lightly. "Say hello to my little friend. She named Ohreoh. Finds her trapped in the box of Ohreoh, so that her name. She help find what deeper in tunnel."

With that, the pair started down the tunnel, Scarheart intrigued by the oddness of little Zeeno, and Zeeno rather happy that his dead-man wasn't quite dead and that his assistance had saved the him from such a fatal ending. I follow river, walking all normal stuffs and suddenly I's see you! I's like, 'oh no! I see dead people!'. But you no dead. You walking 'nd talking... this makes Zeeno happy."

Yes, Scarheart had met a very valuable friend. Zeeno was the friend everyone needed to have in a trip through deep, dark tunnels.

As though they could sense Cassandra's thoughts regarding imminent danger, Foxie decided that maybe now would be a good time to try and lighten the mood. Before jumping down after Cassandra, he gave her a foxy smile. Then he began to hum, softly at first, though the humming soon evolved into words. "Oh! Wanderers in the shadowed land, despair not! For though dark they stand, all woods there be must end at last, and see the open sun go past! The setting sun, the rising sun, the day's end or the day begun. For east or west all woods must fail..."

Mangle sighed at Foxie's childish antics. Then again, giving up was for rookies. This adventure was far from over, and neither he nor Foxie had any intention of quitting now. Rose had followed them as well, and she was bobbing her head as she listened to Foxie's voice, a small smile on her face.

Foxie then paused and glanced at Cassandra. "Come on, sugar plum~! What do you do when things go wrong? You sing a song!" he encouraged her. "It'll make things seem a lot less scary, anyway."

Catching her breath, water still dripping to pool at her feet, Ashyana barely had time to glance around at her surroundings before she caught sight of a familiar glint of steel in the water. Then, she heard a shift in the water pressure and shot a gaze up towards the hole the group had shot out of...

She definitely did not like what she saw in the slightest.

The Selu'ani wasn't entirely sure what it was, but she could be assured that she had never seen anything quite like it, and that was certainly saying something with as long as she had lived and as much as she had explored in her youth. However, she looked towards the creature, it's flailing tentacles that were lunging forth, and noticed the direction that Keldos was looking. He was in a more defensive stance, his gaze affixed on the amorphous squid and the unconscious compatriots of theirs to the side.

Then, both Tidesweep and Keldos would both be capable of noticing that Ashyana's focus was directed on that weapon in the water. She knew that she was to be little use to the battle that was destined to ensue if she did not have her sword at hand. Before they had a chance to say a thing to dissuade her, the corner of her lip curled into the slightest of smiles. "Life, every man holds dear. But the dear man holds honor far more precious than dear life." Ashyana stepped to the edge of the water, then murmured aloud, "I have squandered my days with plans of many things. This was not among them, but at this moment, I beg only to live the next few minutes well. For all we ought to have thought, and have not thought; all we ought to have said, and have not said; all we ought to have done, and have not done..." She took a deep breath and opened her eyes to finish, "... I pray thee Gods for forgiveness."

And with that, the brazen Elf dove into the water to retrieve her katana.

The water felt colder than it had the first time she was in it, though meager matters such as the temperature were far from the focus of her mind at that moment. The blade was... the blade that would help her assist in defending her companions from certain death. She was sure that the angel was quite the warrior, but she was not certain about any of the others and she definitely knew that a broken wing could not do any favors to the angel's prowess.

He needed another hand in combat, a problem that she was going to hopefully fix.

Before she could manage too far from the edge and down towards the weapon, one of the tentacles lashed out towards her, lunging through the water to assault her with speed she had not quite expected from such a large beast. The edge of it clipped her as she grabbed hold of the rock beside her and tried to jerk aside, thankfully only a flesh wound. Blood poured into the water as she realized that what had seemed like a 'flesh wound' at first, was a bit deeper and instead a slice from one of the blades that lined the beast's writhing limbs. Glaring through the water, Ashyana planted her feet against one of the protruding rocks and sent herself rocketing further through the water to get closer.

Her fingertips brushed the hilt of the embedded sword, jostling it as a secondary force slammed into her, knocking her and pinning her into the rock facing. This, unfortunately, also knocked a good portion of the remaining air out of her lungs, but she had little time to focus on such matters. The grip of the tentacle tightened its hold on her, the rocks grinding painfully into her back as she attempted to ignore its attack upon her, her arm extended in a moment of deja vu towards her goal. The limb squeezed, pressing the last bits of air from her, the Elf losing control and releasing a gasp that allowed a flood of water to enter her mouth and lungs. Spots filled her vision and her body convulsed, the tentacle starting to feel her struggle dying down.

At the lack of movement at the end of its hold, the tentacle lifted from the depths, drawing forth the warrior in the air with a faint flourish, as though it were showing Ashyana's allies that it had taken one soul already.

However, it did not expect the Elf to be more enduring. Granted, she probably had a broken rib or two or at least an amalgam of bruising around her midsection... but there was something more important that was at hand... literally. A glint of steel flashed through the air as the freshly acquired katana dug deep through the flesh of the foreign squid. A twist of the blade caused it to writhe and flail, sending Ashyana falling down to land on another of the elongated appendages. Soaked, covered with her foe's and her own blood, and smiling faintly, Ashyana coughed at the capability of breathing, crouching low to stay upon her perch. "This will be a good death."

Seeing the Rune-lined chamber, Keldos acutely wished that Raferties was there with him. The Lorekeeper was far more adept at these kind of things that he was. But as he wasn't, and wishing things were different would do nothing other than waste time, he shook the thought from his head and turned to the task at hand.

Everyone was pulling themselves from the water with little trouble. The Weyrhealer and Shrayla were breathing easy, if unconscious. His wing, upon examination, was a clean and total break. Thankfully the bone hadn't punctured skin, but he would need help setting it before it would heal properly - the break was too close to the shoulder for him to get a good grip alone. Unless another was willing to assist he would simply have to wait. Though it hurt, this was a far less critical thing than if it were say a Guardian like Raferties. Keldos technically only needed two wings to fly, and he had four that were still functioning if soaking wet. experimentally he gave the remaining four a flaring to shake some of the water from them, but shook his head afterwards. They'd soaked too much; he would have to wait for them to dry a bit before the feathered appendages would hold him aloft.

He'd just noticed the golden light, and was about to speak up to the others about it, when the tremor-like noise rumbled beneath his feet and tentacles sprang from the tunnel they'd only just vacated themselves!

"What kind of monstrosity -!" the archangel gasped, as the snapping creature reached out for them all. Realizing that at the very least this was where he could do some good, Keldos summoned his armor even as he moved to stand between the creature's reaching grasp and the unresponsive pair, sword ringing in challenge as he drew it from his back and functioning wings flaring wide to bar the way. He saw Ashyana dive into the pool, but was too slow to do anything about that and could only watch with horror as it seemed the beast claimed its first victim when it lifted her up, only to feel a grin taking his face as she showed she was not as frail and easy to slay as one might think, slicing one tentacle clean away before landing upon another.

"I do not know what kind of beast you are," he said in challenge, sword's movements cutting a figure 8 into the air, "but know this: you shall not pass!" Two tentacles shot out towards him and those he protected, Solarian Truesteel flashed in the light, and the creature recoiled its aim with a screech, blood trailing into the water from long painful slices.

((Clearly: "You shall not pass!" - Ian McKellen as Galdalf, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.))

Good. Everyone was out of the water and onto dry land. For the most part anyway. Shaking her head to get rid of the access water, she noticed the light first and then the splashing from the water. Could they have missed a person? But everyone was here. Turning around, she was just in time to see Ashyana dive into the water as tentacles reached out of it. Followed by a mouth. And teeth. And a very angry looking face.

While the Angel got in the way of the tentacles reaching for them, Tide moved to start dragging them back. She didn't really keep her mind or eyes on the fight so to speak. She knew she wasn't a fighter. Far from it. But she could at least help out in this way. Even if some small part of her brain was worrying about Keldos and Ashyana.

"Come on guys. You need to make it out of there alive. Or I might just have to make an attempt at killing you," she mumbled under her breath as she dragged the two unconscious members of their group further out of the tentacles reach.

Mini-Update

The tentacled beast of ancient origin and monstrous size would bare down upon the watery whirlpool and the cavern leading on. While its body would be -far- too large to follow down the rune-lit path, the tentacles could almost reach the door! They would lash out, a dozen of them, in all directions at once, the beast's mind capable of focusing on many different foes at once.

Cassandra, having plunged into the water, would quickly find herself coming up behind the creature as it lodged its body in the tunnel, blocking easy passage. This would show her something interesting, however - the back of it, protected by plated flaps of flesh, would have a hidden secret. A glowing orange protrusion from its abdomen that looked translucent and frail. Perhaps if those flaps could be opened...

Spirits appear at the end of the hall by the door, the same ones from above, beckoning the heroes to retreat into the sealed chamber if they could not face down the destructive monster of old.

(Have at the beast, take care of it in any story-driven way you desire - just make it an interesting read ;)

Topside, the egg begins to shake in its nest, as the climax draws close - something is happening, above and below, and without interaction, this will surely spell disaster.

Taking a moment to analyze her surroundings, it took just a simple spell for Cassandra to enable herself to not worry about the air issue or the water flow, her magic more than sufficient enough to deal with freezing the water just enough to cause her to stay in one place. The same magic worked, as well, on Elsharaz who had been silly enough to join her.

After that was taken care of, the Djinn smiled at the dilemma before her and twisted her hand slowly in the water. Although it would take a couple of moments, she would eventually have a harpoon crafted of the very water that helped this monstrosity exist, the weapon donned with a solid, magical iced barb that would greatly help with hopefully slaying this beast.

Or, at least it would make it really angry and potentially it would not harm whoever else was down in this underwater tunnel.

Although she loathed doing it, she knew that there were a limited amount of options behind trying to raise the flap. Moving herself closer in the water, the Djinn extended one hand towards the creature. A red flare pulsed around her hand. Cringing, she intensified the heat, making her shudder in a bit of pain. The amount of heat this spell had to generate was enough to harm her, as well, but it couldn't be helped. The water was too cool for it to work otherwise.

Extending her hand out, her heated fingertips planted firmly onto the beast's flank and seared it, the scent of burning flesh and fat filling the water as it began to boil. The creature lurched at the touch, but Cassandra kept her touch upon it until it finally worked: the flap lifted and she shoved the harpoon into the glow before her. Honestly, she didn't even think, it was more of a knee-jerk reaction.

And the creature did not like the sensation of a harpoon being shoved into its whatever-that-was.

The amorphous squid-thing shifted... Cassandra had no idea what exactly was happening until she saw rows of teeth before her. Her eyes went wide at the sight of the creature's mouth as it opened wide to most likely attempt to eat her whole...

From the opposing side, Ashyana had managed to eliminate more of the tentacles, lobbing them off left and right, though it seemed that they continued to spawn from the creature to no end. Her eyes narrowed when she heard an unearthly scream from the beast that wasn't from her efforts. With a jarring movement, the creature's body shifted around, though its tentacles still were writhing and lunging at those on the shore. However, the Selu'ani could now see something glowing protruding from the beast's "body".

This caused her to realize two things...

One, they had an ally of some sort, most likely.

Two, she finally had a goal as to what to do.

Leaping from tentacle to tentacle, the Elf displayed her racial grace as she began to ascend towards the now-exposed potential weakness. A tentacle lashed out towards her, then vanished, she presumed from the aid of the Angel on the shore. She didn't have time to pay much attention to what had happened for fear that a misstep would cause her to plummet to the water below and her efforts would be for naught.

Jumping, she used her sword to dig deep into a higher tentacle and stay atop it without sliding down the slick appendage. It was right there, now. Grinning, she tightened her grip on the katana and slid it right under the haft of the harpoon that aided in holding open the flap.

It was easier than it should have been. The katana slid into the creature like butter and there was a spray of orange, phosphorescent liquid that erupted like a fountain all over Ashyana, the tentacles, and the pool below. The creature let out a wicked roar that shook the cavern and nearly caused the Elf to slip from her perch, so, wishing to not see how long she could maintain the position, Ashyana sheathed her sword quickly and dove off the tentacle to disappear once more into the water below.

In her wake, the creature writhed, jerked and curled a number of its tentacles around itself to try to hide the wound that was still producing such liquid. It didn't entirely know what to do, it seemed, with enemies at its front and back.

Cassandra had her eyes closed briefly, not wanting to stare at the creature that was about to eat her... and then she heard Elsharaz beside her laughing.

Now that's what I call a close encounter.

The Djinn opened her eyes and saw that the creature, roaring in pain and agony, had snapped its maw shut and was writhing to attempt to get away from where the two floated. She smiled, relaxing a tiny amount and ignoring the searing burn that coursed through her hand. Well... here's hoping they're okay.

The beast continued to jerk and spasm and Cassandra could only hope that someone else could kill it because her hand was, for the brief moment, rather useless.
