Mildred didn't even think twice about scooping up the Chimera once more when it ran back to her. "Fine Speckled. I don't blame you one bit either." Xir sisters were with the dude with the motorbike (not accurate, but she had never seen anything like Dust's Sparrow) so that should just leave the other male.

Which she couldn't find. It was like he had disappeared from sight.

Well, while she didn't want to think about what might have eaten the thing in the worst case scenario, she just keep running in the opposite direction of mama. "I think we over stayed our welcome...By more than a bit."

<<Oh. Oh, that’s- oh, that’s just unnecessary.>> Revulsion fairly vibrated in Crow’s tone, locked in a three-way tie with wry amusement and mild annoyance. Bloodshed was a way of life for Ghosts as much as it was for Guardians, sure, but even centuries of death and dismemberment couldn’t full prepare one for a Firemane on the rampage. The Djinn’s capricious cruelty was in a league of its own, made all the more jarring by the fact she just. Kept. Going. How many Kemori-ghosts had she killed now, anyway? Twenty? Fifty? He’d stopped keeping track by the time the third spine snapped-

A hard jab across their bond derailed that train of thought. Crow refocused. Perhaps more importantly, he re-adjusted the Shadowed Dawn’s course, shaving a few precious seconds off his previously-stated ETA. He said as much and got a wave of relief from his other half.

Dust, for his part, lined out for the horizon with one optic on his Sparrow’s temperature gauge. Even heavily-modded Sparrows weren’t really meant for carrying multiple people, and absolutely none of them had been designed with carrying Firemane foals in mind. The speeder was heating up fast, radiating warmth that bordered on painful up each of Dust’s legs. They’d have to stop soon, let the engine vent some excess heat-

But for now he pushed the engine harder, slitted his optics against the howling wind, and murmured encouragement to the foals leaning their slight weights into him. (...one of whom would eventually be named Kite.)

The Shade startled a bit when a disembodied voice started talking to him and then he was grabbed out of nowhere by a pair of arms he couldn't see, but as no further pain was forthcoming, he allowed the carrying thing without too much struggle.

And then, of course, he and his savior were scooped up by a Roc and that was a brand new moment of panic. Had he escaped one predator just to be eaten by another?

But it was up, up, and away!~from his mother, and for that he had to be grateful, even though he was still terrified of heights and of giant birds.

BOND! How Far Can I Bend? Shade to Kemori!

And as Kemori left, his clone army began to fade and pop, leaving the Djinn realizing that her quarry was no longer on the field at all. With a neighing screech of raw rage, the Djinn rounded on the only target she had left within easy reach, which was Dust's Sparrow.

Overheating now, the limping machine could no longer outpace her completely, and she gained on it steadily. Three targets in one, now that was efficiency at its finest, and she made for it with the inexorable determination of a freight train, distance closing fast.

Luckily for Dust and both little fillies he was transporting, however, Crow showed up with the Shadowed Dawn ahead of schedule.

Slightly less luckily, Crow was on course to pick up Mildred, but Dust could course-correct with what mechanical stamina was left in the sparrow.

Safety in sight, the Nightmare considered her options and finally came to the same conclusion her sister had, which was that survival would not have been possible without their savior's interference, and, slightly less fawningly, she headbutted Dust once they were all on board.

BOND! Never Again Nightmare to Dust!

And that's a wrap!

Thanks for joining me, everyone, enjoy your murderhorses!

“Don’t do it.”

Kssss...

“Don’t you frakking do it-”

KsssCHUNK!

“Oh, by the glowy ball in the sky, come ON!”

Dust didn’t need the proximity alerts flooding his HUD to know precisely what was gaining on them. Kemori was gone, likely escaped in the confusion, and in his absence his magic frittered away to nothing. That left the field of (lopsided) battle empty, save for the heavily-laden Sparrow and its precious cargo. Momma monster was no fool. She knew a three-for-one deal when she saw one, and nothing was going to stop her from putting down the very fillies she had birthed.

That was the theory, anyway. The reality of the situation was very different. The Shadowed Dawn hove to over the horizon at least two minutes ahead of schedule, and in that instant Dust was quite certain he’d never seen a sight so beautiful. The ship was moving fast, streaking across the sky at speeds no human pilot would have been able to handle.

It was... also going in the wrong direction.

Right. Rendezvous point. Crow was likely occupied piloting, which meant he wasn’t paying attention to his Guardian’s antics, and Dust... well, he’d been so busy running for his life he hadn’t thought to correct that situation.

<<Crow! Adjust... three, three point five kliks north. I had to cut and run, and I’ve got friends.>>

<<Am I right in assuming these aren’t the sort of friends I would approve of?>> Crow might’ve snarked, but he altered course all the same, sending the ship into a shallow arc back the direction it had come.

<<I think you might like one of ‘em. The rest can go frak themselves, though.>>

Tkk-tkk-tkk-tkk-KSSH.

<<We in range yet? I don’t think my Sparrow’s gonna hold up much longer->>

Engines roared, trans-mat tech spun up with a high-pitched whine, and all at once the Djinn’s tempting targets disappeared in a wash of blue pixels.

Back aboard the Dawn, Dust slid sideways off the smoking shell of what had once been a perfectly serviceable Sparrow. He’d pushed the poor thing to its limits, indeed well past them, and somehow it had answered the call. Small wonder he gave the wreck a fond pat before turning towards the two fillies huddling near him.

“Alright, you two. Let’s get you cleaned up, shall we?”

Kite nickered enthusiastic agreement. Her sister- eventually named Shrike- merely snorted.

Tsundere little beast wasn’t about to admit how relieved she was to be alive.

Even as the invisible Kitsune had been scooping up the Shade, he knew the little fire-horse was likely to panic at being grabbed, first by him then by Kogane Jidai. Giving the nature of her fly-by snatching, it was literally a snatching as she caught them in her huge talon. The Kitsune curled around the trembling colt trying his best to soothe, and when they were safely away from the desert the Roc landed, setting them down as being carried in a talon-cage wasn't very comfortable for anyone.

And Kemori found he had a new friend.

Poor foal was almost white-eyed with fear, and bleeding from several places, cuts that to the Kitsune's eyes would likely scar. Was there any wonder that he was skittish?

"You're safe now," he muttered, stroking the ebony pelt and sending Kogane to the Weyr for some supplies to tend to the foal's injuries. He could feel the tiny thing trembling under his hands, and see how his eyes darted this way and that.

Poor thing, what a traumatic way to enter the world!

"Ah, you need a name, don't you!" The Shade looked at him, definitely responding to his voice. "I believe Honō no Senshi suits you! Fire Warrior!" He stroked the dark neck. "I know you might not agree, but maybe someday there will be a warrior in you despite this. And if not, oh well! Your name shall terrify your enemies and they will run, and you won't have to fight them." Nervously Senshi, as he would be nicknamed, gave the Kitsune a small nudge but then started at a noise and ended up slashing at the fox-man's thigh with a sharp hoof, tearing his robe and drawing a line of blood. Kemori flinched, but nothing more than that; he didn't want to make the Shade even afraid of him, probably the one source of kindness and protection he had right now! "Ah! Oh well, an accident. Nothing further. C'mon, we'll find a nice place to rest while we await Kogane's return, and then we'll head home."

((I love him! And so goes Kemori – a nice mix of 'I should protect this fearful little thing' and 'he could kill me at a moment's notice!' So much RP potential! Thank you!!))
Note: Until further stated, Scarheart, Belial, and Cassandra have standing permission to powerplay Raferties or Anari.
