Role Play Sample:
Cassidy ran down the sidewalk chasing after Kip, her black cat. It was Halloween night and the streets were full of children hidden beneath masks and costumes. Though young, she considered herself too old for trick-or-treating, so she passed out candy to the kids instead. However, as she was opening the front door of her house to recover more candy to refill her bowl, Kip slipped out. So, dawning a wispy purple and black witch’s outfit, Cassidy was sent out to retrieve him.

Squinting her bright azure eyes, Cassidy scanned the ground for Kip. Darkness was creeping up on the neighborhood making it quite difficult to locate a black cat. She spotted him just before he turned the block and darted down another street. Cassidy heaved a sigh and jogged after him, her curly dark hair flying out behind her under the pointy witch’s hat.

As she rounded the corner she caught a second glimpse of Kip sneaking his way up to the Bradley Building, the town’s very own haunted house. There were many rumors floating around the neighborhood about certain people that entered under the light of the full moon and never made it back out. Skidding to a stop, Cassidy halted right at the front gate of the house as Kip streaked up the yard and hopped through an open window.

The exasperated teenager quickly looked up and down the street but nobody else was on the sidewalk. She looked up at the ominous full moon, which hovered over her like a death sentence. Shaking her head, she pushed those silly scary stories out of her head, took a deep breath, and pushed open the squeaky gate, striding confidently up to the front entrance. She twisted the knob and the door slid open noisily with an eerie creaking. Suddenly uneasy, the young girl poked her head through and called weakly for Kip. The dusty walls of the house mimicked her voice with a quiet echo.

All of a sudden a black flash scurried across the area in front of her, causing her heart to skip a few beats. Clutching her chest, Cassidy cautiously stepped into the house and shuffled slowly toward the room that the mysterious creature had dashed into, hoping it was her cat. As she entered, her eyes widened and her mouth dropped a few inches. Standing in front of her, hovering in the air, a swirling purple mass of light hung. She noticed Kip underneath it prodding at it with his paws. Suddenly, as if being sucked up by a vacuum, the black cat was pulled into the vortex and disappeared. She screamed and quickly backed away from the strange, violet whirlpool.

Tears started to form at the ends of Cassidy’s eyes; she wrung her hands hysterically trying to think of what to do to get her poor kitty back. The only solution she could come up with was that she had to follow him. She stepped tentatively up to the portal and gingerly poked it with her finger. The frantic adolescent watched as her hand melted away as the rest of her was pulled in and sent of to another world.

With a soft thump, Cassidy landed in the middle of a foggy, grassy pumpkin patch. The young girl looked around desperately, yet seeing no one. She soon began to wonder why she had done what she just did. With no idea what to do now, she hugged her knees to her chest as more tears swelled in her eyes. Just then, something brushed up against her side. She yelped, and snapped her head sharply to the side to look down at the creature that had touched her. It was merely her pet, Kip. He purred softly and rubbed his body up against hers. She grabbed him hastily and held him tightly in her lap.

The uneasy teenager whimpered softly, glancing around the empty graveyard of pumpkins. Though she had found her cat, she had no idea where she was or what to do. She only knew that she had gone through some strange portal into a strange place she had never been to before. She lowered her head as Kip, who was confused at why his owner was so sad, began to lick at the salty tears that ran down her pale cheeks.

The Genres: Hmm. Pretty much anything... More along the lines of fantasy, anime/manga, videogames, maybe a dash of modern?
