Part 1 of the Cafe Reviewer Rules
Categories 0 - 4

Welcome to the Cafe! We're pleased to see that you're interested in reviewing pieces with us today, and we appreciate your input and reviews on your artists' works. To begin, we suggest that you first take a look at the Cafe Posting Rules, located here. This will help you get a better understanding of how to work within the Cafe, and how your peers will be posting their works.

Once having read that, you're ready to start reviewing with us - but first, one rule you must follow: do NOT review Categories above 4. You may be certified to do this in the future, but as for now, we ask that you leave that to the more experienced reviews. Other than that, however, you are absolutely free to review in any way or form you like - using starred systems, numbered systems (5.0 out of 10.0, for example), or just using your words themselves. Also, be sure to note this: though another reviewer may have gotten there before you, don't let that stop you from posting a review yourself!

Finally, we ask that you review according to the system below, using these only as guidelines, rather than explicit rules:

Quote:

Category 0: Tropical Storm
At this level, we ask that you only give simple critique: mostly just fixes to the structure or story, art form or painting, and most likely compliments. It's best to use the rule that if you have nothing good to say, say nothing.

Category 1: Minor Hurricane
When getting into the numbered categories, things become a bit more complex. Reviews should be as long as or longer than Category 0 reviews, and at this point you should point out what's good and what's bad about a piece - still not too harsh, but at this point you become a reviewer rather than a peer.

Category 2: Moderate Hurricane
Because this is the level for artists and writers who want more than the intro review, you're expected to run a much longer review than either of the two categories. Here, you'll give a review that contains points on how to improve skills and technique, rather than just what's good and bad about a piece.

Category 3: Intense Hurricane
At Category 3, the reviews become pieces in and of themselves. At this point, you should be picking out individual parts of a piece and criticizing them, telling not just what is good and bad, or just how to improve, but informing the artist WHY parts of their piece are good and bad. At this point, paragraphs should be the norm for reviews. It's expected that, much like with artists, most newbies to the reviewing groups will generally hit the 'ceiling' here.

Category 4: Severe Hurricane
At Category 4, the highest point a regular reviewer can go, reviews are expected to be full-length articles, with major criticism. Here, you no longer mince words to make people feel good; using colorful language is pretty much encouraged. At this level, giving a ill-worded or short review is almost as bad as submitted a bad piece, and will hugely affect your Karma and chances of being a certified reviewer.[/color]

Be reminded that even though the act not following these rules do not have any particularly
bad consequences, as always, your actions here can deeply affect your Karma.

Thank you,
