20. Dracula Untold![]() "My name is Dracula.....son of the Devil" Is Dracula Untold perfect? Nope. Does it have its generic moments? Yep. Is it accurate to Vlad Dracula The III's life? Not entirely ((Duh)). But is it a lot of fun? Hell yeah. Luke Evans does an above average job as Vlad, fully making us feel for his struggle. The effects to bring the vampires to life are magnificently done, and the action is all well-shot. So overall I liked Dracula Untold. |

19. 300: Rise of An Empire "Better we show them, we chose to die on our feet, rather than live on our knees! " Now let me get this out of the way, 300: Rise of An Empire isn't as good as 300. It's story is weaker, its characters aren't as memorable, and it's not as fresh as 300. However it's still a ton of fun, and the action is incredibly well directed. Despite it being the first film Noam Murro has directed, he does a excellent job with the action here. The script has holes, but the main characters like Artemisia and Themistocles are all incredibly enjoyable. |

18. John Wick "John wasn't exactly the boogeyman. He's the one you sent to kill the fucking boogeyman." It's rather ironic how two things that were on the down low ((Non-special effects fueled action films and Keanu Reeves)) came together to create a great movie. John Wick's direction is fantastic, with the action scenes being among the best of the year. The script, while somewhat by the numbers, is incredibly interesting and keeps you intrigued in the film. Keanu Reeves does a great job as the titular John Wick, and really fills you with sympathy for the character, despite his murderous nature. Special shout-outs to William Dafoe who also did a great job. |

17. The Theory of Everything "There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope." Not gonna lie, going into this I was expecting it to be dull boring Oscar-bait. While at first I seemed to be correct, as it went on I was completely surprised by how sincere and motivating it was. Showing the struggles of Stephen Hawking, played magnificently by Eddie Redmayne, as he was diagnosed with ALS and his life with his first wife Jane Hawking, played incredibly well by Felicity Jones, really made the story relatable and in a way down to earth. Not to mention the gorgeous direction by James Marsh. Overall one of my big surprises of the year. Edited by Siegzilla, Feb 23 2015, 11:44 AM.

16. Big Hero 6 "On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain?" I personally wasn't huge on Big Hero 6, but objectively it was great. As someone who wasn't crazy about it I can't really say more then the fact that it had great animation and an adequate script. |

15. How To Train Your Dragon 2 "This is Berk. A bit trampled, and busted, and covered in ice but it's home. It's our home. Those who attacked us, are relentless and crazy, but those who stopped them, oh, even more so! We may be small in numbers, but we stand for something bigger than anything the world can pin against us. We are the voice of peace, and bit by bit, we will change this world. You see, we have something they don't. Oh sure, they have armies, and they have armadas, but we, we have [Toothless roars] DRAGONS!" When I first saw HTTYD2 I had mixed feelings on it. However as I've ruminated and thought about it, I've grown to like it a lot. It keeps the gorgeous animation from HTTYD, but upgrades the script in a way. I liked the themes of growing up and exploring your roots, which HTTYD2 covered and did well. However my biggest problem with HTTYD2 is a certain plot point in it which I felt, while brave and bold, wasn't exactly needed. Besides that though, HTTYD2 is great and probably the last great Dreamworks franchise. |

14. The LEGO Movie "I only work in black and sometimes very, very dark grey." There's definitely one thing that must be said about The LEGO Movie, and that is how creative it is. The creativity present in The LEGO Movie is fantastic, from the stop-motion esque animation, to the incredibly bright and colorful script. The vocal performances are all amazing and bring to life the unique cast of characters ranging from an average joe to characters like Batman ((With some nice cameos worked in. Gandalf and Michaelangelo the Ninja Turtle all in one movie PLUS Han Solo!?)). Now while I think the ending drops the film down a bit, The LEGO Movie is still a great exploration into creativity. 13. Guardians of The Galaxy "Peter Quill: I look around and you know what I see? Losers!... But life's giving us a chance. Drax the Destroyer: To do what? Peter Quill: Something good, something bad... a bit of both." It's no surprise that I think that Guardians isn't as good as people say. While it's great, it's not as great as people say it is IMO at least. However that doesn't wipe away what I've already said....which is that Guardians is a great movie. A ton of fun with amazing character interactions, Guardians easily gets over its hurdles ((Ronan's a wasted villain, and the action is generic)) with the above plus a ton of laugh out loud humor. While not the best Marvel film of the year, it's easily one of the greats. |

12. The Grand Budapest Hotel "There are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughterhouse that was once known as humanity... He was one of them. What more is there to say?" Now this is what I call an ensemble. Featuring the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Jeff Goldblum, and Edward Norton among others all in one giant blast of a film, Grand Budapest is hilarious with all of the jokes hitting the right notes. The set work is phenomenal and the direction by the cult favorite Wes Anderson is incredibly unique as is typical with Wes Anderson. Definitely the funniest film of the year, and despite all of its comedic comedies, a film with a real poignant message to it beneath the laughs. |

11. American Sniper "I'm ready. I'm ready to come home. I'm ready to come home baby!" Let me get this out of the way, American Sniper is easily a love it or hate it movie. I can easily see why it's so divisive. It makes Chris Kyle into a almost superhero-esque figure, and doesn't really humanize the opponent. It moves around quickly, and dramatizes some of the events. However even despite that, for me its poignant Anti-War message and exploration of life after service is incredibly powerful and something that I'm glad is being shown to lots of people. American Sniper isn't a perfect film, but I think it's an important one. |
