[omg that little fucker is going to break his heart xD I'm pretty sure Westlake would get Alexy to kill him if he did so WATCH YOURSELF MANNY, its like Rob has a ton of SCAREY AS SHIT OLDER BROTHERS THAT WILL END YOU]

Rob smiled, small and sweet, pleased that Emmanuel didn't throw up a fight about it. Are we boyfriends now? That sounds weird. Before he realized what he was doing, Rob kissed him, just gently, on the temple, and then pulled away, flushed. He felt oddly giddy, and had the strongest urge to ask the man if he liked cake.

Of course he likes cake. Everyone likes cake. It's fucking CAKE, for chrissakes, the fuck is wrong with you?

"Rob," he corrected, unable to remove the pleased smile from his face, "Just Rob."

Emmanuel smiled back, a proper smile this time, not a smirk or a grin, but something inside him sank the tiniest bit. Major Rob's - no, just Rob now - smile was so sincere, and he sincerely hoped he wouldn't get all wifey on him. Being attached by the dick was okay. Being attached by the heart... not so much. Then, as if throwing another curveball, Rob kissed him, right there in the middle of the mess hall.

"Well, 'just Rob,' that wasn't very secret of you," he teased. He didn't even bother bringing up his blush. After all, he had the strangest feeling that he might be blushing too. Is this that thing where people like that someone likes them, rather than actually liking them? He stood up rather abruptly, but a grin was spread across his face now. "Well, I'm done," he announced. "You finished with your so-called dinner?"

"Yes," Rob nodded. He'd eaten some of it, but mostly, it did actually taste as bad as it looked. He stood up as well, "I still have prep work to do for the excursion to the city," he said, trying to force his blush away. Thankfully it was less resilient than the smile. "And you should probably sleep. It'll be a long day. I'll walk you over to the male bunks, if you'd like? I have to go over to the infirmary, and the bunks are on the way."

Work, work, work, goodnight kisses! No, fuck, come on. Work. Work. I have to do work, goddamnit. Both? Yes. Both is good. Goodnight kisses and theeen work.

Emmanuel pouted and said, "All work and no play makes Rob a dull boy." He hip checked Rob as he went to put his tray away. "But I suppose this poor, newly-made mistress must simply dream of his suitor tonight." He pressed the back of his hand to his forehead and sighed, his entire body sagging dramatically. His disappointment wasn't entirely feigned, though. Things could take a turn for the interesting if he offered to stay up with Rob to help, but his better sense agreed with Rob. They were going into the city tomorrow, and he was ninety percent certain he would probably die there, or at least be an incompetent piece of shit.

He linked his arm with Rob's. "Alrighty then, vamanos fair knight, to the bunks!"

Rob smiled, and led Emmanuel out from the Mess Hall.

It was a quiet night, long since dark, and the base felt almost deserted since everyone else seemed to have gone to bed. Rob was pleased at that, it meant that he could just enjoy the walk with Manny, without any sort of issues. He subconsciously leaned to the side, enjoying the closeness. It was far too quick a walk to the male bunks, it seemed so sudden that they were nearing the door.

"Right," Rob said quietly, "Sleep well. I'll see you tomorrow morning."

He reached a hand forward, running it backwards through Emmanuel's hair, and leaving it on the back of his neck, before leaning in and gently kissing him on the mouth, nipping at his lip. Then he pulled back, smiled brightly, "Goodnight."

Emmanuel stared at the dark sky, the stars barely visible from the residual smog from the war. It didn't make for a very romantic topic, not like it was in the old songs. But that didn't matter, because the distance between the mess hall and the bunks was so short that there wasn't even much time to say anything sappy. Anyway, Rob was leaning close to him and seemed happy enough in the silence.

"Yeah, you too," he replied, and shit, that was lame, but Rob must not have minded because his hand was in his hair and then they were kissing. He put a hand on over Rob's on his neck and leaned forward into the kiss, but that, like the walk, was over quickly. He almost grabbed Rob to pull him into heavier make outs, but restrained himself. No use getting worked up now if he wasn't going to get laid.

"Sweet dreams, Rob," he said. With a tiny wave, he walked into the men's bunks. He hung out by the door to watch him walk away before tiptoeing to his own bunk. Tomorrow was going to be a long day, and only God knew how early they'd be forced to get up. He hopped into his bunk and thought about Rob's lips until sleep took him.

Rob headed over to the infirmary, only to find it empty. They've all gone to bed, then. I should do the same.

He left the infirmary, and walked slowly over toward the offices. His mind was filled with thoughts of Manny, and he paused noticing something in the near distance. Like mana from Heaven, it was a goddamn cactus. A perfect one, little and green with reddish-pink flowers on it and Rob could literally cry it was so great. He picked it, and brought it with him, almost running to the office.

As he entered, he ducked off into his own office and potted the little cactus, leaving it on his desk. And then headed over to the spare room where Westlake was still up. Rob leaned against the door frame, regarding the blond.

Westlake raised an eyebrow, "You look happy."

"Because I am," Rob replied. He pulled off his jacket, and set it neatly on a hook behind the door, then slipped off his boots.

"Not regular happy," Wes observed. "Something happened. What happened? Is that cactus smell? Are you romancing someone?"

Rob blushed, Wes knew him way too well. "I'm, um, I'm in a relationship." A smile broke over his face, "I have a boyfriend now. And yes, I picked him a fucking cactus. It's in my office though, I haven't given it to him yet."

Westlake's smiled as Rob sat on the bed, "Good for you. Who is it?"

"His name's Emmanuel, he's one of the new people."

Westlake's eyebrows shot up in surprise, then narrowed, "Oh. Okay. Well-" He'd met the man, and come to the conclusion that Emmanuel was the last person who would ever, ever be in a proper relationship. So either he really liked Rob, or was just fucking with him. "-I'm glad you're happy."

Rob frowned, lay down, "You don't sound glad."

"I am, just... Just be careful, that's all."

Rob nodded, flicking out the light.

Westlake cuddled into his side, wondering if he should tell Rob about his crush on Alexy and coming to the conclusion that it's probably not the time. And he didn't want to hamper Rob's happy mood.

---

Morning came early, far too early, and Westlake groaned unhappily at the blaring wake-up bell through the PA system. It was something like 6AM and he just wanted to go back to sleep, but it was also the day that a group was leaving for the city, so he had to go administer vaccine shots.

He managed to grumble his way to his feet before he realized that Rob was already up and dressed and halfway out the door, because Rob was fucking military and woke up on an internal clock that hit before that goddamn bell did.

"Rob, wait!" West called, stopping the Major in his tracks. He blurted, "While you guys are gone to city, I want to learn how to shoot."

Rob cocked an eyebrow, "Oh. Um, I guess so? Why?"

Westlake shrugged. "Just in case? Um, I thought Alexy could teach me. But I need you to write a note to tell him that I'm allowed, because otherwise he won't do it."

Rob nodded, "I'll speak to him, before we leave. He needs a break from patrol anyways."

Westlake smiled, huge and genuine. He was excited, it was very exciting, a good reason to get up in the morning.

Westlake dressed quickly, and they headed together over to the Infirmary. It was empty, and Westlake took the opportunity to give Rob his vaccine shot right away. Rob didn't flinch, none of the older ranking military ever did, and Westlake tried to push it out of his mind at the thought that They don't flinch, because with the shit they've seen, and pain they've had, a needle is nothing to them.

"All done," Wes said, giving Rob a smile as the man pulled his jacket back on and an announcement blasted over the PA System that ALL PEOPLE GOING TO THE CITY TODAY, SHOULD REPORT TO THE INFIRMARY FOR VACCINATIONS.

Emmanuel startled awake at the alarm that rang through the bunks. Even as the other men got up around him, he groaned and pressed him face into the mattress. The sun isn't even up yet, for Christ's sake. He forced himself to at least sit up, let the grogginess drain from his head so he wouldn't trip and kill himself on the way to the showers.

Before he was even halfway down from his bunk, however, an announcement echoed through the hall. ALL PEOPLE GOING TO THE CITY TODAY, SHOULD REPORT TO THE INFIRMARY FOR VACCINATIONS. He groaned again, letting his head fall with a clang against the ladder. Right, the city. Gross, dirty, dangerous. He wasn't a stranger to vaccines after working with a doctor back at March Town, but then he remembered how Westlake had said something about really big and really pointy needles, and suddenly it was like he had never gotten a shot before in his life.

He mussed his own hair with a huff of frustration. Might as well go now while everyone's in the shower. Don't want to have to wait too long. He straightened his clothes and headed to the infirmary to get it over with.

Rob ducked out of the infirmary, deciding to hunt down Alexy and speak with him about Westlake's request before they left, and he walked almost right into Emmanuel.

"Oh, hello, good morning," he greeted. Nobody was around, so he gave the man a quick kiss and a smile, "Can't stay, got stuff to do, but I have a thing for you, so when you're done with your vaccinations, meet me in my office. Breakfast on the road, too, so don't worry about that."

And he was off again, heading over to the Mess Hall to see if Alexy was up, having breakfast yet.

Just shut up and go back to sleep! Anticipating won't do anything! The sun isn't even up yet!

Gene's tendency to wake up before the wake up alarm was heightened by the fact that today's an important day. Still, he wish he didn't have to lie awake for god knows how many minutes; maybe it was his fear of the alarm, but the more he lies awake in bed the harder it is to get up. As the alarm sounded, people started stirring near him, but he just lay still.

That is until the announcement rang out for all those going to the city to go get vaccinated. Gene automatically stumbled out of bed and made his way out, grateful his half-conscious state allows him to ignore any funny looks from new recruits.

Already clean and showered, Abby rapped her towel around her and waddled back to the female bunks to dress, her long red hair sticking to her face.
She dressed for the desert, but switched her heavy boots for light weight sneakers.
She stretched her tiny body and made her way over for her vaccine. Abby wasn't particularly fond of needles, but she would rather have a needle than catch something from the city.

She waited at just outside the door and hoped there wasn't too many vaccines.

Alexy was indeed awake, He had convinced one of the chefs to cook him something that he was sure was once porridge, He Cursed as it tasted like cardboard but ate it anyway, It was sustenance after all. He yawned and shook his head, "Awake, Awake" He chided himself and Stood up to leave, He grabbed a Cup of water on his way out to sip at and wash the 'food' Down

He Walked outside and spotted the major, He gave a quick salute and the finished his cup, probably Wants to talk to me about the whole Westlake thing... He thought to himself leaning against the wall of the mess hall and waiting for him.

Emmanuel wasn't really surprised to see Rob leaving the infirmary, even if the announcement had only been a couple of minutes ago. He supposed that, as a major, Rob had a lot of prep work to do before leaving for the city.

"Morning, Major Boyfriend," he said. The kiss was nice, but nowhere near enough for him. "See you in your office, then." He smiled to himself, looking forward to the "thing" he'd get later. The grin was still on his face as he walked into the infirmary.

"Morning," he greeted Westlake. "Here for my shot and all that jazz."

(I'm assuming Felix is there by now, so when you post Nikki, you can just have him wake & show up or whatever, and then reply to this, like he was here before Westlake let Abby in)

"I sense our first victim," Westlake said, casting a grin over to Felix. He wondered if the man was terribly excited to show off his giant novelty needle creation. He would be.

He moved over to the door, opened it, to beckon Abby in, and instead was overcome by Emmanuel. He let them both enter, two for the price of one!, giving Emmanuel an extra look, trying to discern if he were any different. Hunting for a bounce in his step, or some tell that would somehow explain his feels toward Rob. He did seem a bit happier.

---

Rob spotted Alexy outside the Mess Hall and smiled in relief. He didn't really have a lot of time to fuck around, they'd be leaving soon and he still needed to see Alex at the garage about the vehicles. Right to the point then, which was a shame, because he would like the opportunity to get to know the Russian a bit better- but there never seemed to be enough time. And when one of them had time, the other didn't. It'd be different if they had more officers. Fucking FWA.

"Good morning, Alexy," Rob greeted. "You have a minute?"
