Abigail quickly showered and washed her hair. She left if out to dry, it falling just below her tail bone and over her shoulders.
She grabbed her Sports bra and pants, deciding she didn't need her jacket for lunch.

She rushed over to the lunch hall just in time. She wasn't very hungry, and she never ate much, but she would need the energy for whatever was after lunch.

She waited patiently in line and opted for a small serving of the potato and watched as a chuck of "meatloaf" was dumped on her plate.
Whatever was in the loaf sure as hell wasn't beef, but it would have to do.

She found a quiet corner away from the crowds and picked at her lunch, sipping her soda.

Gene chuckled quietly as Westlake jumped in and left. He's an interesting guy; Gene had always wanted to talk to him but he didn't even notice him in all the years he's been here. I'd probably just bore him anyways.

Genie-boy? Gene smiled at the nickname, glad that Emmanuel was at ease with him. "Sorry ... I wasn't exactly paying attention ... ehehe ..."

Emmanuel put on a mocking pout and said, "Aw, c'mon, I'm not that boring." He sidled up closer to Gene, filling in the space Westlake had put between them, and whispered, "You've been here a while, right? You've gotta have some idea of what's gonna happen."

A flash of red caught his eye, and he looked up just in time to see Abigail find a secluded table. He stared at her hard, hoping she'd get the "someone's looking at me feeling." He was still listening for Gene's answer, but he didn't want to lose the chance to get to know the girl as well.

Abby finished off her "meatloaf" and soda and sat there playing with her potato. Like everything else, the potato was a sad attempt at real potato. It was bland and like glue.
She smiled to herself and decided to start heading back to the quarters to re-plait her hair and chuck on her gloves.

She placed her tray on the pile and walked past the other privates who has helped earlier.
As she walked past Emmanuel she giggled and whipered "It's rude to stare" in this ear, and contnued walking.

She was slowly getting more comfortable around everyone. They didn't seem to mind that she was small and female.

"Nonono I never said you're boring!" Gene responded automatically, terrified at the prospect that Emmanuel might think that's what he thinks. Even the most boring person ever can distract Gene from his thoughts, and Emmanuel was far from that. Shut up already, he was just joking.

He noticed the redhead who helped with the boxes earlier walk past and smiled when she whispered at Emmanuel.

"Uh, I meant I wasn't exactly paying attention when they were talking about what's happening after lunch." Gene managed with a smile. After a pause, he added, "I don't think it's gonna be the usual anyways ... I think, maybe, in a way ..." he trailed off and looked away, muttering unintelligibly.

Westlake left the Mess hall, travelling over to the office, where he knew Rob would be hiding out.

And so he was, sitting in his office with a pile of paperwork, ignoring a pitiful looking sandwich. His eyes were slightly glazed over, and Westlake sneaked into the office and peered over his shoulder.

"Private Emmanuel Cruz!" Westlake said, startling Rob, who proceeded to glare at the doctor. "He looks better in person."

Rob narrowed his eyes, "Were you terrorizing the newbs? I thought we talked about this."

"We did," Westlake nodded, swiping up Rob's sandwich. "And I'm pretty sure we left it as a, agree to disagree conclusion." Rob opened his mouth to retort that they most certainly did not, and threaten the doctor's livelihood, but Westlake took the opportunity to shove the sandwich into the Major's open mouth.

Rob sputtered, bristling with rage, and ripped the sandwich out of his mouth, throwing it at Westlake's head. The doctor dodged, but only just. "You're lucky FWA Alpha love you so much, otherwise I'd shoot you here and now."

Westlake grinned. "So you keep reminding me." The grin turned to the frown, and he reached over and ruffled Rob's hair, "You need to eat though. It's important, I don't want you to get sick."

Rob glared, then sighed as he realized the glare was having less effect than usual. "You didn't tell them anything, did you?"

"No."

"And everything is set-up?"

"Yes."

"Good." Rob nodded, getting up from his chair, grabbing the Free World Army flag off of his desk. "Lunch is almost over, let's head to the Mess and get started."

Westlake grinned, offered an arm which Rob ignored, and then followed the Major out the door.

The outside was mostly empty, the transport vehicles departed, returning to March Town and Rob gave a salute to a man who sat on the roof of the Men's barracks, before entering the Mess Hall.

Together with Westlake, Rob leaned against the wall for a moment, surveying the crowd. His eyes fell to Emmanuel and he quickly looked away, resisting the urge to fidget. He cast eyes up to Westlake and they exchanged grins.

This was going to be fun.

It was the slam of the back bus door that finally caught August's attention. Looking up from his book about aliens living on different planets, the blonde suddenly realized that everyone was gone.

Quickly getting to his feet, clutching his book and oddly clean messenger bag, August ran up to the front of the bus and practically fell out.

"Private, you're late," the bus driver said with a morbid chuckle, "Major Oliver already had his little talk with the recruits." August let out a worried sigh and glanced around the base. It was so dirty....

"What am I supposed to do?" He asked, shifting his glasses up his nose.

"Go to the Mess and get some lunch. Wait for the Major there." The driver answered, shutting one of the cargo doors with finality. With a sigh, August slipped his book into his bag and headed to the large building that he guessed was the Mess Hall.

As August walked into the cafeteria, he was bombarded by the smell of not only gross food, but body sweat and dirt. August shifted his bag on his shoulder uncomfortably.

After getting a tray full of....was it food? He wasnt sure. He sat down at the table farthest from everyone and slipped open his book again.

Emmanuel laughed at Gene's response. "Just kidding man," he said with a crooked grin. Then there was a girlish voice in his ear, and he whipped around just in time to see Abigail walking away. He grinned at her back. Fantastic, here's one that'll be real fun.

"Eh, I guess I'll enjoy it as a surprise then," he replied to Gene, still watching Abigail until the last wisp of her red hair disappeared out the door. He turned back to the other man fully when he started muttering, though, and Emmanuel tapped at his hand. "Hey, you alright?"

People were starting to leave - lunch must be over - but he didn't want to leave Gene muttering at the table. The guy didn't really seem all there.

Westlake blocked the path of the people trying to leave. "Not just yet!" he explained, a malicious grin spreading across his face. "If you leave now, it's like you've already lost!" And he shooed them all back to their tables.

August looked up from his book and half eaten sandwich. Staring at the strange man in the doorway he set down his book. Continuing to finish his meal, he started to listen to whatever was going on.

Abigail stood behind Major Rob, already having slipped through the door without being noticed. Although, he was blocking her entry back in.
She reached up and tapped him on the shoulder.

She didn't want to make a scene or be noticed, but she knew that if she wasn't in there listening, she would probably get in trouble.

Rob felt the tap, turned in surprise to see the little red-haired Private. His eyes flitted past her shoulder, a secret message, and then he pulled her back inside. "Stay in the Mess Hall," he said, kindly, "We're about to begin. Don't worry- you'll get your chance to leave soon enough."

Standing up, August put away his tray and walked over to stand by the rest of the group that was gathering. "What are we doing?" He asked, shifting his blue eyes to each person, landing on Rob.

Abby looked at Major Rob with a cute confused look. She wondered what he was looking at as she stepped off to the side of the crowd, trying to remain unnoticed.
She looked around trying to find the group she was on the bus with, not that she had really paid attention. She wondered if everyone would participate in the activity or just the newbies.

She fiddled with her plait as she waited for Major Rob to start speaking again.

Heheheh ... I know ... it doesn't mean ... shut up .. just roll with it ...

As Emmanuel tapped Gene on the hand, Gene stayed frozen and continued mumbling. He had a habit of ignoring people when they show concern for him. He wanted desperately to say that no, he's not alright and that he needs help, but he doesn't really have an issue, he knows that. I haven't been abused, I'm not seeing things or hearing voices, I'm just seeking attention. No-one wants to deal with bullshit like that anyway.

As Major Oliver and Westlake came into the mess, Gene blurted out, "Oh look, the thing's about to start!" and suddenly faced them with an unnaturally wide grin.
