Rob fought back to urge to sigh. "We're going to the city," Rob explained. "Because that is what we do. We make runs to the city, and scavenge items to be shipped back to March Town, where they then ship it off to Alpha Base to be sorted." He suppressed a sarcastic remark, "The last crew found a hospital, partially intact. So we're probably going there." He paused for a moment and then, "You're dismissed," before she could question him further.

He turned his attention to the man by the door.

"Alexy, come in," Rob invited. "Sit. Did you just get back? How was patrol?"

Alexy relaxed, he moved over to his commanders desk then sat in the chair opposite and Clearing his throat before speaking in that accent laden voice of his
"Da, I just got back, patrol was... Uneventful, spotted a half buried city vehicle, no living, no supplies, Whoever owned it probably turned back with whatever supplies they could. Tracks Led back towards the city." He shifted in his chair, "nothing dangerous, nothing useful. Other than that, Sand." He said with a slight smile.

"What's this trip to the city? Most of these people are recruits..." He leans forward and speaks in a hushed tone, "Its dangerous out there Sir, Not sure these guys could handle it."

"They won't be on their own, and they need to cut their teeth sometime," Rob replied. Alexy was right, of all the Bases, Delta has the least number of officers and the largest number of privates. But no matter the rank, they were still all soldiers, and you can't get experience by hanging out at the base. Besides, only a handful of them would be going.

"How do you feel about coming along?" Rob asked. "I wasn't actually expecting you back so soon, but I'm tempted to call it serendipity. Four Privates, and then me, Alex and Gene. Westlake is staying behind, because he still has that foot rot thing with Carver." Rob scrunched his nose for a moment, in disgust, because foot rot, or possibly because Carver, both of which Rob found highly displeasurable, "So we could use another experienced. Your choice, I haven't spoken with Elaine yet."

Abigail sat on the roof and looked around as the few remaining privates ran around in search of flags. Most of the gunners had returned to there quarters and lined up for a nice shower.

She couldn't see any flags from where she sat, and guessed they had been well hidden to limit only the best privates to going on the trip to the city.
The last thing the major would have wanted is to have soldiers bought back in body bags.

She watched as a Cpl she hadn't met wondered in threw the gate towards the office.

August didnt say a word as Rob told them they were going to the city because he was too shocked to answer. The moment he was dismissed, he left.

As he walked across the base, back to the mess hall, August moved quickly despite the slowing down of paintball guns. How could Major Oliver think that he of all people was ready to go to the city?

He was nuts. Major Rob Oliver was nuts....

Grabbing his bag off the table where he left it, August opened the door and stood there for a moment as a realization hit him.

He could die in the city. Tomorrow.

Alexy nodded and stood again briskly saluting "Let me know if you have need of me." he said before turning on his heel and walking back to the door, He paused for a moment, thinking to himself, then grunted and walked out,
Cut their teeth? peh! more like Lose their heads...
Oh come on, they can handle it. They've trained for it right?
They're still rookies with no experience, I'd give them a day in the desert alone let alone the city,
Oh quit being so negative

Alexy chuckled to himself and walked outside, Debating on where to go, To the Mess hall? I'm kind of hungry. He looks back towards the male dorms, But Kushkya needs cleaning from being out in the desert.

He stood there for a few seconds, looking between the mess hall and the Dorms.

After a horribly cold shower, Emmanuel rested on his chosen bed. He stared at the ceiling from his top bunk, arms folded behind his head, his back unpacked at the foot of the mattress. The bunk below him remained empty, and he wondered if someone had already claimed it, or would come to claim it. But, more importantly, he wondered who else would be going on the trip to the city. It wasn't too late yet, he could still wander about the base, maybe visit Rob again or talk with some of the other privates. It may be my last chance before I die in the city. He shook the thought out of his head. He'd be there with more experienced troops; they'd be fine. He rolled onto his side and listened to the noise of the men's bunks, waiting for sleep to come.

[[ note: he's not actually sleeping, I'm just setting him up for whenever we move on~ if anyone really wants to interact with him, he's still awake on his bunk ]]

With a nod of her head, the girl made her way out of the office, no further questions being asked. What was she to do now? From what looks there wasn't much, and having the rest of the day off to relax didn't leave many options. Maybe she'd just go take a name in the barracks, yeah, a nap would certainly be alright.

Now that she had decided, she wondered her way over towards the women's barracks, entering the building. She strolled on over to her bed, adorned with her things and simply laid herself. It wasn't long before she fell asleep.

Rob played with his pen. Double checked his paperwork. Arranged his top desk drawer. And then sighed. He was getting bored and antsy, and was just about to start climbing the walls when the walkie on his belt fired off.

"Major," came the static laden vocals of Westlake, across the speaker.

Rob smiled, "Yeh, Westlake?"

"Did a headcount. All the noobs are here, except the winners."

"What? Are you sure?"

"Counted twice."

"Damn. Thanks."

"Laps?" Westlake asked. "Or drill?"

"Both," Rob muttered. He reattached the walkie to his belt and frowned, mood going sour. He had such high hopes for the new bunch, and here it was that they didn't manage to get all five flags. It was tradition to make the losers clean the stray paint spatters from Delta grounds, and then run laps around the base. But Rob was in particularly spiteful mood.

He leaned down, hit an intercom speaker button, and tried not to wince as he heard his voice echo loudly across the entire camp.

"Congratulations to Privates Yazzi, Jones, Compton and Cruz for collecting flags. Senior officers may now return their paintball guns to the Armory."

He let his finger off the button and decided that after being cooped up in his office for the entire event, he might take a walk through the base grounds, and exited the office. And if he ran into some paint spattered Privates doing laps, all the better.

He needed to collect the final two flags, anyways.

"Ah, here we go, game over." Elaine sighed as Major Oliver's voice rang through the base. As she passed Carver on her way to the armory, she called out, "Only four winners this time, eh?"

---

Shit, it's over. The Major's voice abruptly ended Gene's playtime with the gun, turning his goofy grin into a wide-stare. He was sitting cross-legged on the floor like a child, with pieces of the gun placed in front of him in seemingly random spots and multitool in hand, with the screwdriver component sticking out. I better put this together and return it now ...

He didn't want to leave, he wanted to play some more. He said senior officers, maybe I'm not supposed to go there yet? But there's a fear that cast a looming suspense over any attempts at resuming the activity, taking away every ounce of joy from doing so. But he said senior officers. Facing them is scary enough even when they're expecting you.

Just put the darn thing back together already.

Gene reassembled the gun and peered around the corner of the office building, without real intention to move.

Abby lay relaxed on the roof enjoying the sunshine.
Although she didn't talk to many people, she enjoyed watching them.
It was still a few hours until dinner, and she wanted to talk to Major Rob about a few things, including some stuff she had collected and bought with her, but that could wait. He probably wasn't in the best mood since there was still 2 flags in the yard.

She watched as the remaining gunners returned there weapons and the paint splattered newbies filed out of the mess hall and into the yard.
She silently crawled over to the edge of the armory roof and hung her waist over the edge.
"What are we doing now?" she quietly questioned a female gunner [[Elaine]] with a tap on the head.

"Oh!" Elaine felt a tap and glanced up at the recruit on the roof. "What on earth are you doing up there?! Get down at once or you'll fall!"

Abby slid back up onto the roof, stood up and jumped over the Sergeant, landing behind her in a quiet roll.

Abby giggled and ran off to the mess hall to await further instructions.
She contemplated hunting down Major Rob or having a look threw the equipment available in the Amory so she would have a good idea what she could use for the city trip tomorrow.

Eventually she settled on wondering around the back of the kitchen in search for any burnt or broken pots that she could salvage.

Elaine stared in shock as the private jumped off the roof and landed behind her. "Hey!" she called, but the girl just ran off giggling towards the mess hall. "Geez, what a showoff," she sighed.

She, too, made her way north with the other officers. "Back already, Corporal Kuzneatov?" she called out casually to the corporal standing between the mess and the dorms.

---

As the paint-splattered recruits filed out of the mess and proceeded to do laps around the base, Gene saw that redhead who got the flag from the roof earlier sprinting towards the mess. I think she's the one who stole my gun too. She really is something. Gene felt a twinge of envy at how carefree she seemed darting around and climbing roofs. She made him feel like a fool. But maybe I *am* a fool, ok? And there's nothing wrong with that! So just shut up and get going!

Oh right, officers. Gene still wasn't sure whether he's supposed to return his gun yet, but was sure he's still afraid of officers. As a large number of them drifted out of the armoury, Gene decided to get up, hold the gun against his arm and make his way towards the armoury, looking straight ahead with a grin trying to seem calm and cheerful, more to himself than anyone else.

Rob rounded the Mess Hall and had a small sense of satisfaction as he watched Westlake ordering people around. All the new people, still spattered with muti-color paint, were out under Westlake, cleaning paint from the side of the building. Westlake spotted Rob, shot him a wink and Rob smiled back to him, walking over.

"Let Carver take over," Rob said. "You doing medicals now, or after supper?"

Westlake shrugged, "It can wait until after supper. There's only four this time, so it shouldn't take too long. Besides, I'm having fun fucking with the noobs."

"Already, if that's what you'd like," Rob nodded. He moved to walk away, but Westlake grabbed his arm and pulled him close.

"What about your... medical check-up?" Westlake asked, voice dropping to almost a whisper.

Rob twitched a smile, "Later."

Westlake nodded, his face breaking into a wide grin, "I look forward to it."

Rob removed the taller man's hand from his arm, lingering a little more than necessary, and headed toward the Male Bunks. He gotten Flag #4 already, and the fifth flag was located in the bunk themselves. It was surprising, and always the hardest one to find since usually it didn't occur to anyone that the flags were not necessarily all outside.

He entered the Male Bunks, and paused just inside the doorway, spotting Emmanuel. Alone.
