Consuelo slung her pack over her back, now laden with two syringes. One had hairline cracks but still seemed servicable, while the other was rusted slightly. Either way, she got what she had come for, and she made for the stairwell as quietly as possible.

She took the stairs two at a time. Her boots were too worn to make much sound, but she still gritted her teeth at every step. Half a flight above the first floor, she could her faint voices through the crooked door. She inched her way along the walls until her back came to the one adjacent to the door, and she waited for the noise to die down. They were quiet, really quiet. The only people that needed to be quiet were the ones that wanted to avoid trouble as much as she did.

Relatively sure of her safety and definitely sure of her ability to make it out the front, she pushed the door open, legs tensed for the sprint. But instead of dust-laden air, a man's face appeared before her. Shit. Her eyes immediately went to the gun, and, with practiced speed, she cupped her fist in one hand and jerked her elbow at his wrist.

The attack took Weaver by surprise, and it made contact with an audible crack and knocked the gun out of his hand. He hissed in pain as his training kicked in, and counter-moved by grabbing her arm, spinning her so his chest was to her back- one arm across her chest holding her in place and one arm around her neck.

"That was a mean way to great a potential new friend," he chided icily, flicking her fox mask to the floor so he could see her face. The age was about where he guessed it, an older person wouldn't be quite as spry, "Let's redo, but let me start this time, yeh? Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Lieutenant Ben Weaver. You can call me Ben. What's your name?"

Any satisfaction Consuelo had from knocking the man's gun away was replaced by cold dread and slight dizziness from being spun. She went absolutely still and rigid as the his arms secured her to his chest. Struggling would only heighten his guard, tighten his grip. She didn't even react at being unmasked. Judging from the uniform, he was army, and his title confirmed it. Whatever rep she held with the other city gangsters would likely not have any affect on him. Instead, she kept her back straight, chin tucked in to protect her neck, but scarred face defiant.

"Hijoputa, I don't give a fuck who you are, and you don't give a fuck who I am," she stated matter-of-factly. "You held a gun to me and I am unarmed. Tell me who the 'mean' one here is." She threw her head back into his nose and tried to break out of his arms while he was reacting to the pain.

---

Emmanuel looked up from the dusty cabinet when he heard a clattering coming from the hallway. "Did anyone else hear that?" he asked quietly. He looked to the others, but Gene was helping out Abby and Major Rob. The only one unoccupied was the dark girl.

"Hey, uh, Neena?" he said in a stage whisper. "You heard that too, right?"

"Well actually, I do, because I need to be certain there isn't a group waiting upstairs to kill my platoon," Ben replied. "And how was I supposed to know you weren't arm-" He swore as her skull crashed into his nose and one of his hands flew up to press against it as he felt a gush of blood.

When she attempted to break his other arm, he pulled it out away, shoving her backward and then diving for the gun. He rolled on the floor, snatching up his pistol and landing expertly on his knees with the gun aimed toward the girl.

"I'm the one bleeding all over the floor," Ben snarked, keeping a steady eye on her. "And I could shoot you, but haven't. Yet. So tell me your stupid name already, little Miss Meanie."

Consuelo stumbled for two steps before steadying herself and grabbing her mask. She spun on the frictionless toe of her boot to face him as she replaced the mask. There was no way she was going to leave her back to him. She took careful step backward, eyes on his gun, moving like a cornered fox. She held her hands up near her head, palms open and facing him.

"You don't seem very good at your job," she said, waving one hand over her face to indicate his nose. "But don't worry. No one else is here, and no one else will trouble you if you keep your voice down." As she spoke, she moved in an arc until her back faced the door leading to her freedom. She paused for a moment in deliberation, but really, telling him couldn't do any more harm. "Renata," she answered.

No one had come out to help him yet, so she couldn't resist playing with him just a bit more before taking her leave. "Did you need to know who's name to be screaming tonight?"

---

Emmanuel had a troubled look on his face as he heard the muffled sounds of a scuffle. "Major Oliver," he spoke up finally. "I really think something is going on out there." His grip tightened on the instruments he was holding.

Gene eyed his pile awkwardly before placing it down carefully against the wall. See, I didn't get yelled at, did I? He gave a quick, nervous smile and he headed over to Abby and the major. He turned back briefly as he heard a clattering in the distance, before turning back to the task at hand with a guarded expression. You ready already?

He stood back as Emmanuel heard the commotion and asked the major about it. Yeah, maybe we should take care of that first ...

"Oh Renata sweetie," Ben said, grinning and raising an eyebrow at the inference, "We just met. How 'bout we start with dinner, and see where it goes from there, hm? You like sandwiches?"

---

Rob paused, listened. Manny was right, there was something going on. And Weaver hadn't returned. This could be bad. The last thing he wanted to do was put the others in harms way, he bit his lip.

"I'll go see what's going on. You guys stay here, stay quiet," he said just loud enough to reach everyone in the room, but not loud enough to echo or really be properly loud. "If I'm not back in ten minutes, Gene, lead them out to the transport."

Rob turned, feeling his heart twist as he caught the expression on Manny's face- but that's not something I can think about right now -and slipped out the door.

He traveled along the hall, intending to make his way out the transport and see what happened with Weaver, and then stumbled upon the scene. Weaver was on the ground, on his knees and bleeding, his pistol trained on a young girl wearing a fox mask. Instead of barging in and upseting either of them, Rob waited until the girl saw him.

"Ben, are you okay?" he asked, calmly.

Weaver was secretly relieved that the Major had come out, but didn't take his eyes off of Renata. "Fine," he muttered, "This is Renata. Renata, this is Rob."

Consuelo smirked behind her mask. "Well, sweetie, I've been told I make a pretty mean knuckle sandwich." Before she could say anymore, movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention. Her head whipped around to see another man standing there. When did he get here? Realizing she took her eyes off of Ben, she turned sharply to look at him, too. She took a few steps back to keep them both within her vision.

This is not good. The smart thing to do when cornered by two men, army men, is run, but if anyone saw her turn tail... Her rep was the only thing keeping then grittier citizens off her back.

"Rob, eh?" she said, rolling the 'r.' "That feels good in the mouth. Bet you know all about that, hm Ben?" Her tone was condescending, but it turned authoritative as she addressed Rob. "You really ought to do something about your underlings. He's a real mess."

---

Emmanuel shut the drawer and leaned against it as Major Oliver spoke. When he walked past to the door, their eyes met briefly, and he saw a flicker of something in the major's eyes. He felt a spark of guilt ignite in his stomach. He probably looked like shit, and who knew what that would do to someone who seemed as emotional as Rob?

He stole a glance at the others - they all looked well composed. Isnt this breaking a rule? Always stay with an officer? He fingered the whistle in his pocket and resisted the urge to peek out the door.

"A little bit," Rob nodded. He walked forward casually, rested a hand on Ben's shoulder without taking his eyes off of Renata, "Ben, I'll talk to her. You go to the others and get cleaned up. You have medical supplies in your pack, yeh?"

Ben frowned, "But sir-"

"That's an order, Lieutenant."

Ben hesitated, "Yes sir." And stood, heading back to the others.

Rob gave Renata an expression like he didn't really give a shit what she was doing, like they were just two strangers who happened to be standing at the same bus stop.

"I could shoot you," he mused, "But I discourage injuring civilians. I should shoot you, for injuring my officer, but he probably let it happen on purpose because he's not allowed to hurt civilians. I can tell by looking at you that you're what, alone. Desperate for something, food maybe? People who don't delight in attempting to kick your ass? Hard life. So I'll make this easy- Go. You can go, I won't stop you. Or you can hang out, get that sandwich that Ben promised you, and then go."

He paused a moment, thoughtful, then added, "But if you injure any of my team again, I will have to shoot you."

---

Ben reached the room being searched, entered in a huff, almost hitting Manny with the door, and closing it behind him. He was fuming just slightly that Rob sent him away but also knowing it was the best thing, but also hating the fact that the Major was alone with her, but also hating himself because he's a Lieutenant and he should know enough to deal with her without the Major having to intervene. Ben swiped his sleeve across his face, wiping away the trail of tacky blood that streamed down from his nose.

He dropped to a sit on the floor, pulling off his pack, and unzipped it, hunting for his medical supply kit, with a hiss of pain from jarring his broken wrist.

Consuelo grit her teeth, indignant at the way Rob talked about Ben like he was innocent. She knew it wouldn't matter if she shouted at him that Ben had pulled a gun on her first, before she did anything. So, she swallowed her defense and it felt like acid on her throat. She heard him out, getting caught up on the last bit. At first she misinterpreted, mind still set on the banter between her and Ben, and thought that it wasn't a food sandwich, and was prepared to get angry at being propositioned for a threesome.

But this one looked sincere, and What, is he really going to give me a sandwich? Her stomach clenched. He was right, it was a hard life here. The syringes in her pack were going to be traded for food; she didn't need to take his offer. But... free food. She willed her stomach not to growl and took a cautious step forward. "No catch?" she asked. "Not going to let Ben or your team get a free hit before I get my sandwich?"

She didn't really expect any tricks. She was just stalling. This would be a perfect opportunity to scope out the soldiers. Information sold nearly as well as drug paraphernalia if you knew where to sell. Even if she couldn't find anything out, she could at least swipe something from them if she stayed to "hang."

---

Emmanuel quickly moved out of the way of the door before it hit his face. When he saw the lieutenant, he was pretty sure he got hit by a door or something just as solid. Something clearly was going on out there, and he glanced at the door, wondering if Rob would be okay by himself. He had nothing to judge Rob to Weaver, so he did the next best thing.

"What happened?" he demanded from Weaver.

"Like I said," Rob replied, "I discourage violence again civilians. But you can wait here, if you'd like?"

He didn't wait for an answer, but turned away and headed back toward the room. If she had a knife to throw at him, she would have drawn it already, during her fight with Ben. And if she charged him, he would hear her coming and he had stupidly fast reflexes.

---

Ben raised an eyebrow at the demand, and lowered the wet wipe he'd been using to clean the blood from his face, then started to wrap his wrist with a tensor bandage. "Just a wayward civilian," he muttered. "Not a big deal. There are a lot of rules Rob has about fighting civilians. And the first one is, Don't." He looked at Manny's face for a second time, was that... worry? Surely not for me, I don't know you, but- Rob? Are you worried about Rob? "Rob'll be fine, he's a Major. He's dealt with worse."

Abby waited for the Gene to move over to the cabinet. She probably didn't need him, she could scale things, but she was unsure of what was on top of the cabinet and didn't want to risk anything nasty poking her.
"Gene" she said loud enough for him to here about all his crazy thoughts, then ran at him, climbing his back and standing on his shoulders. "Not too heavy?" she said quietly as she looked over the top of the cabinet.

Rob was right, there was a few things up here, but her main interest was the solid briefcase.
She picked up a few of the books, dropping them down to the floor near Gene, then focused on the case.

Abby gently grabbed the handle and pulled it closer. It wasn't overly heavy, but it sure wasn't light either. About the weight of a weapon.
Her first quick glance told her it was locked, combination, not that it mattered, easy enough to break into.
"Gene, This next one is kinda heavy, so grab it quickly when I pass it down"

Alexy Shrugged and shut up, He watched over the group in the infirmary for a while, taking notes and making sure carver didn't try anything stupid every now and then giving the Man a dirty look, before looking away,

Ugh... Sometimes I wonder why i bother...

A voice inside him said coming into his mind due to his inactivity, Then another and they bickered and Swuabbled like they always do, Alexy let a out a small chuckle, Obviously amused by something.

Kida watched in silence, and somehow a critic in their movements, They caught someone that she didn't even know was there, and that was rare. Kida then turned her attention elsewhere looking around and scoping out the area, She noticed that the truck was almost unattended, her curiosity got the better of her and she dropped from her perch, spear in hand to take a look at the lumbering beast, She sniffed the air as she approached she poked at the side of the truckw ith her spear, surprised as it made a metallic dinging sound, She moved around the back and brushed aside some of the Curtains, taking a look inside

Consuelo folded her arms and stood her ground as he walked away. Her paranoia was telling her not to bother with them, to instead check the perimeter of the hospital and just grab whatever she could from whatever transport they had. Unfortunately, I still have a conscience. After treating her to non-violence, aside from Ben, that is, it would be criminal to steal from them with their backs turned. She'd rather do it right in front of them. Perfectly honorable.

She took a step forward to follow Rob, but halted when a metallic noise echoed to the foyer. "Do you got some idiot on your team dumb enough to make noise, or is someone else out there," she said through gritted teeth.

--

"Pft, you're a lieutenant, and look at you," Emmanuel murmured, but he backed off. He walked over to where Gene and Abby were dealing with whatever was on top of the cabinet and stood on tip-toes, trying to catch a glance at what was up there.

"Need help, guys?" he asked. He doubted they did, but if he had to wander around the room uselessly any longer, he would explode.

Rob narrowed his eyes. It could be Alex. But Alex wasn't stupid, and she wouldn't draw any attention to the transport unless something was up.

"I should check it out. Please stay here, where it's safe," he replied. He moved to step outside the door, hand hovering inches from his holster, wondering briefly if Renata had something to do with it, if this was all just some sort of set-up where she would draw him outside, only to have the rest of her gang jump him. But he dismissed the thought best he could. She was just lonely and hungry. That was all. He knew all too well what that looked like in a person.

---

Ben paused in his wound-tending, to cast a hard glare toward Manny- it was bad enough he was hurt, he didn't some stupid lowly Private to kick him when he's down -but it was all for naught as the younger man had already turned around.

Rob is taking an awfully long time.

Ben finished dressing his wounds, then stood, a delicious idea coming to his mind. "You know what, Private Cruz, you're right. The Major shouldn't be left alone with her." He walked over, taking Manny by the arm and steering him authoritatively toward the door, "Let's you and I go help him out."
