Greetings, citizen! It takes some gall and wit to survive in our world. Emmanuel drummed rapidly on Gene's thigh to wake him up. "Yo, Genie, lunch time," he said. Being in the aisle seat, he stood up to grab them both some food. He offered the tiniest wave to Rob as he passed him, but was still too nervous about the city to do much else.

His fingers tapped against the packets as he walked back to his seat. He tossed one on Gene's lap before plopping down beside him. He chewed through the sandwich mechanically. The sound of the transport grinding and the others chatting was nothing but a buzz in the background slowly lulling him to sleep.

[[TIME SKIP! It is now closing in on evening, sun going down. The thing with West & Alexy can keep going as is, but here-on in, we're going to pretend that it's supper they are chowing on, as opposed to lunch]]

Rob awoke, still feeling unsettled and casually stole a glance at Manny. He looked so sweet, curled up and sleepy on his seat, and Rob promised himself that he wouldn't let anything happen to the younger man. Everyone else was still asleep, and he casually ran a hand through Manny's hair, stroking his cheek to wake him.

He'd seen the city as they approached, and now the last of the neon orange strips of light ran jagged lines through the tall dark spires. It was looming, and gritty, and the closer they got to it, the more the carnage they could see- crumbled wreckage, half-burnt out buildings of back before the war. And Rob couldn't imagine what it must have been like to live there, with the buildings at their golden age, tall enough to touch the clouds.

He leaned down and gave Manny a chaste kiss on the temple, "We're here."

Gene had his cheek pressed against the window, gazing peacefully at the passing scenery. It's calming; even the gritty landscape of the city; when it passes by so rapidly, and usually made him sleep. But there's only so much sleep one can get in a day, and Gene had been sleeping pretty much the whole day.

Well, here's the city. Gene has been to the city before, many times, but it's still a rare occurrence compared to the time he's spent in the army. He liked the city, especially at night. The chaotic structures and bright neon lights felt more natural than the structured atmosphere back at the base. Gazing into the lights, it has a dizzying effect. It made him feel like he could do anything.

But the dangers of the city are still very much real. Gene may be acting all nonchalant about it now, but when confronted with actual life-threatening danger, he knows he'd panic like anyone would.

Unless ...

Gene chuckled and shook off the thought. Don't wanna betray their trust like that and stuff and it isn't gonna fricking happen so just STFU AND GTF/O!

As a voice beside him announced their arrival, Gene looked up, leaving greasy smudges on the window. He stifled a chuckle as the major pecked Emmanual on the temple and looked up innocently, whistling. In his head, that is.

Emmanuel was dreaming about rainstorms and wet kisses and mutated amphibians, so waking up to a dimming sky felt oddly natural. The dry, dusty smell of Gene's neck, however, was different enough from the perfumed dream-smell that it wasn't too difficult to bring himself back to life. His neck felt a bit stiff, and as he righted himself off of Gene's shoulder, it cracked.

He turned into the hand on his cheek, thoughts of home still settled in his bleary mind. Again, the smell was too different - something like cactus? The face registered, and Manny pressed a light kiss to Rob's palm in exchange for the forehead kiss. He wondered briefly how long he had been awake and if the driver had gotten any sleep. Most everyone seemed to still be conked out, aside from Gene who had a very suspicious look on his face.

He stood up, one hand on Rob's and the other on Gene's shoulder, and looked out the gritty windows. His heart leaped at the sight of the nastily spiked skyline, drenched in the red-orange of sunset, and squeezed Rob's hand lightly. "We certainly are," he murmured. He hipchecked Rob lightly and added, "Are those buildings supposed to be so phallic?"

Rob rolled his eyes, "Oh probably." He gave Manny a smile and then another kiss, "I need to stockpile kisses," he explained, "Because once everyone is awake, I won't be able to steal anymore." One more kiss, then a short joking lick up the side of his face. "Gene doesn't give a shit. Not about stuff like this, and you won't tell, right Gene?"

Rob grinned. "Come on, help me wake everyone up, so they can have a minute before we reach the hospital."

Gene nodded with a grin, happy that the major of all people is comfortable enough to display affection right in front of him. At first he thought he was all business. Maybe authority isn't so bad after all.

Abby slowly sat up and stretched her legs, placing the book she had borrowed from Weaver on the seat behind her.
She shook herself out and picked up her bag. She wasn't taking it with her, but it contained her belt with knifes and her small kit of things she might need like lock picks and rope and a bandage.
She slipped on her gloves, belt and tightened her shoes.
She sat up and stared out the window as she waited for everyone to wake up and get ready.
She couldn't help but shake the feeling that she had been there before when she was much younger.

Emmanuel kissed back, more than thankful for such a pleasant distraction from the disturbing city. "It's not stealing if they're freely given," he whispered against Rob's lips. He giggled at the the lick and captured the corner of Rob's mouth in one more kiss, a deeper one, if quicker. Stockpiling kisses wasn't such a bad idea, especially if they couldn't make out in the heat of danger in the city. Which would be totally hot. So much more thrilling than the risk of getting caught.

"Yeah, Genie here has a lot more interesting things to say than who's-kissing-who gossip," he agreed and playfully kicked at Gene's foot. He scooted out of the seat to help the major wake the others.

Abby, being the closest, was first, but he saw that she was already up. "Geez, no rest for the wicked, huh?" he said with a hesitant grin. He only briefly wondered if she caught any of his and Rob's exchange, but didn't really care much either way.

Next was the other girl - he didn't know her name yet. He nudged her shoulder gently and said, "Hey, rise and shine Sleeping Beauty."

Abby smiled and playfully kicked at Manny as he walked past and commented.
"I'm not wicked" she thought to herself and giggled.
She was about to stop him from waking the dark girl since he would probably get a punch to the face, but she decided it was too late and too funny to miss.
She noted to learn everyone's name before they got to the city in case she actually needed to talk.
"So far there was Major Rob, Manny, Weaver and Gene...? so only 2 more" she thought with a cute puzzled look on her face.

Emmanuel, with all the reflexes and grace of a drunken cow, stumbled forward from the unexpected kick. He fell halfway onto Neena's lap before he caught himself on the seat. A hot flush of embarrassment reddened his face. Any other day, that would have been fine, but right before going to the city... it just reminded him of his imminent demise.

He looked back over his shoulder at Abby and opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again when he couldn't think of something. He just smiled again, a bit more wickedly like a challenge taken.

Neena had felt the gently nudge of her shoulder and it didn't bother her at all. It only meant that they were probably there, but as soon as she started to open up her eyes, the one who nudged her had fallen halfway into her lap. That was what had displeased her quite a bit, it certainly showed upon her face as well. It didn't really matter how he ended up there either, all she knew is she wanted him away from her general area.

It would have been any other day, that she might have punched the hell out of his face. Yet, with two higher ranking in the vehicle, she was sure to get herself into trouble for something like that. "I'll give you ten seconds to get up or you're going to have a horrible aching in the face," she frowned. Wow good job Neena, aren't you just the best as making friends.

----------------------------------------------

It wasn't untill evening, that Felix had started to wake up from his sleep. Had he really slept all day just because of looking at the mess hall food? Well he certainly wasn't going to do that again any time soon, but he was running low on his stash of goods. He wasn't going back though, not again, no matter what Westlake would say or do. He'd listen to a million poems about mushy crushes and shit before that. "Fuuuuuck," he sat up on the small bed. Felix hadn't even eaten anything all day, mostly because he had fallen asleep, but that wasn't the point in it all.

Felix wasn't even sure what to do, so he just flopped back down and groaned. "Wake me up when I'm dead," he stuck out his tongue. Could happen quicker if he ate in the mess hall, but they'd like to see his downfall.

Rob offered Manny a hand up, "You okay?" he asked, trying not to sound too concerned. He was annoyed with Neena's reaction but not entirely surprised. He recalled something in her file about her having a bit of a temper. Looking over, he saw Weaver still conked out, head against the window.

"Neena," Rob said, "Please wake up Lieutenant Weaver." And then he continued on to the front of the bus. Ben was notoriously difficult to wake up and if this was Rob's passive agressive revenge upon the girl for acting like a butt, then so be it.

Neena grimaced at what she was told to do, though more towards Rob than anything honestly. She had only done it when his back was turned and he headed to the front of the bus, she wasn't stupid. The girl looked over towards the sleeping Lieutenant, giving him the ol' look over before moving over closer. Geez, could anyone sleep any deeper than this? His head was tapping against the glass rather nicely, how about that. So, the young girl leaned over and gently whispered into his ear. "Hey sweetheart, it's time to get up," she almost cooed into his ear.

Then, she leaned back, and punched him hard in the shoulder. If that didn't wake him up, who the hell knew what would.

"Geez, babe, at least give the city hoodrats a turn first," Emmanuel muttered with an angry pout to cover his embarrassment. He gratefully took the Major's hand and pulled himself off of the girl. He held his hands up in surrender as he walked back to his seat. God, it was only an accident. I guess I'm not the only one high-strung over this little trip. He glanced over his shoulder just to ensure he could associate Neena with her face. He visibly flinched when she punched Lieutenant Weaver in the shoulder.

He plopped back down beside Gene - only the other boy was left now, one he didn't really recognize but had a pretty smokin bod, but he was on the Major's way to the front. Instead, he leaned back on Gene and said, "Are they going to issue us guns? Because I have zero training." He nudged Gene's ribs with his elbow. "Hope you got my back in there."

Weaver caught the 'sweetheart' and was blearily coming into consciousness, when the punch hit his shoulder. He grunted with the pain, and squinted his eyes open to her. "You didn't need to do that," he muttered, even though it was mostly a lie.

--

"You don't need guns. We shouldn't encounter any of the locals and if we do, we're not sticking around to fight," Rob interjected. "But here, if it makes you feel safe-" He held out a whistle to Manny, with a little grin. "I'll protect you."
