First off, you'll need your host.

For something free I'd suggest..
www.ceege.net
www.987mb.com

Or you can find your own free host..

For something paid for, which gives more options and features and a wider database, I'd suggest doing some research.

What is a host?

A Host is a website that will host your website with a Server. A server is something that can run the website that has 99.9% uptime (If it's good.)

http://www.2createawebsite.com/
This link will help you with learning about this process..

There are 3 different ways to make a website.
A)You can code it yourself using a free template.
B)You can code it yourself and make your own template.
C)You can use software (like z13's forum software) so no coding is REQUIRED.

C is, of course, leaves you with less options..
If you are going with C, I'd suggest www.magix.com

To create your own website using coding.. you need to know how to code.. so here..
http://htmldog.com/guides/ This is extremely helpful for beginners!

Now to add the content you coded to your website, you'll have to upload it to your host's database. (The files must be saved under an .html format, or .css, depending what you're doing.)

Now to upload, I cannot help you immediately.. different hosts will have different ways of uploading, for example, with 987mb, who uses MySQL, it's easily uploaded from the site. If you are downloading a big file, you will download it using filezilla.. which is faster.. but I wont' get into that.

These are the basics.

The links I have given out are for educational purposes only.. anyone who thinks otherwise can enjoy getting there asses sued off..
