![]() The Canadian government has annouced Wind Vision 2025, a plan to have wind energy fulfill 20% of the nation's needs by 2025. Manitoba has already annouced the construction of the largest wind farm in the nation by the cities of Brandon and Portage la Prairie. This new wind farm will produce 300MW of power, more then 100 more then the current largest wind farm in Canada. A large part of the production will be handled by Hitachi Canadian Industries. Canadian Hydro Developers, which already owns 4 wind farms including the current largest one in Canada, is planning on the construction of 2 more in the near future. Both will be opened near the city of Kitchener. One will have a 20 MW capacity and the other will have a 70 MW capacity. Canadian Hydro Developers is also planning on creating new and more innovative ways of capturing the wind. ![]() A high way wind turbine is one suggestion. Each set could produce up to 9,600 kWh per year. However some questions must be answered regarding this project, like if the turbulent airflow of the area could even sustain it. |

Wind output is up to 130 GWh. It is short of the 100% we had wanted and strived for, but we ran into several difficulties. As a result of the new wind farms, we have begin to phase out oil burning power plants, in favor of these wind farms. The plants will be closed as soon as wind power is freed up to replace them. This will have no impact on our imports of oil, as the oil will simply be redirected to other military and national needs, but will reduce some emissions. Funding is still provided, but our new target goal is a 65% increase in power, which should be more easily attained then ever before, with the advent of newer and more efficient turbines |
