'ZOMG! That scholar picture only shows a female! FEMALE ONRY!!! JUST LIKE DANCER!!'
Excuse me?
I was being sarcastic.. because everyone jumped to the conclusion that dancer was female onry, which it obviously isn't... and just like dancer, upon initial information, the job's picture only illustrated a female.
and that male dancer is not too bad looking, but still kinda silly... and look div! it's your model!

Scholars: Martial Magicians (11/05/2007) Wings of the Goddess, the upcoming expansion for FINAL FANTASY XI, will give players the opportunity to discover a new job and an old favorite: the scholar. During the time of the Crystal War, scholars earned the respect of all ranks of the allied forces with their ability to lead troops to victory using a combination of shrewd planning and resourceful strategies in their positions as tacticians and military officers. Click here to learn more about the origins of the "grimoire"--the source of a scholar's martial knowledge.

-
War is an act in which force is used to attain an objective. If you lose sight of that objective, the force you have mustered will waver. First, decide your objective. All of your strategies will develop from there.[From the preface to Theories of War by Gunther Schultz] There was once a group of academics that earned the respect of all ranks of the allied forces with their ability to lead troops to victory using a combination of shrewd planning and resourceful strategies in their positions as tacticians and military officers. These academics were known as military scholars. Their characteristic gowns and hats became symbols of their brilliance as they drove the forces of Altana to victory with strategies evolved in the shade of field tents. The mysteries of the grimoire--the source of a scholar's knowledge--will now be revealed. The Birth of the Scholar. The ferocious inferno of knowledge that we know as "magic" will soon fall into the hands of both Elvaan and Yagudo alike. On that day, a war that encompasses both man and woman, young and old, will descend upon as all. I write this tome in the hope that it will aid in the defense of my beloved Windurst. I pray it never falls into the hands of our enemies...[From the afterword of the grimoire, by Lungo-Nango] Martial theory is a field of study that is researched through the historical and practical application of battlefield tactics. Though uncommon these days, there was an age when martial theory was so highly regarded that any scholar was automatically considered to be a "military scholar." That age was the Crystal War. It was plain to even a child's eyes that the early defeats suffered by the allied forces were due to the overwhelming numbers of the beastmen. However, the leaders of the allied nations were also taken aback by the unexpected sophistication of the beastmen's strategies--an entirely new approach was needed. Military scholars were suddenly thrust onto the center stage of the war, with offers to become tacticians and operations staff flowing in from every allied army. Of particular note were the advocates of the Gunther Schultz School of Martial Theory, who led Bastok's forces to victory in the Second Battle of Konschtat. Their philosophy that action and knowledge were one and the same prepared them with the capability to respond immediately to any situation with which they were presented. An irreplaceable resource of the proponents of the Schultz School of Martial Theory, the military text known as the "grimoire" is a unique work. The original manuscript was penned on papyrus by the Windurstian Warlock Warlord Lungo-Nango. He professed unfamiliarity with magic, but after researching its strengths and weaknesses, he put forth a series of unconventional strategies that combined frontal magical assaults by heavy Caster Companies with flanking attacks by highly mobile beast units(*). He was a celebrated warlord with victories on many battlefields. However, after his death, the mages of Windurst narrowed their research to the study of pure magic, and Lungo-Nango's brilliant magical, martial tactics were all but forgotten. Three hundred years later, the scattered pages of Lungo-Nango's works were collected and added to by Gunther Schultz, and thus a revised addition of the grimoire was born. The practice of copying and improving the tome eventually became an unbroken tradition among the pupils of the Schultz School of Martial Theory. Perfection of the Grimoire If your enemy is strong, weaken him with dark magic. If your enemy is weak, attack him with elemental magic. If your allies are strong, support them with enhancement magic. If your allies claim victory, prepare them for the next battle with healing magic.[From the chapter "Military Expeditions," an addition by Adelheid Sturm] With the musings and records of a hundred years of scholars crammed between its covers, the grimoire had exceeded its original definition as a tactician's manual, and developed into an encyclopedic source of knowledge. The task of memorizing its contents had become a mammoth task for any aspiring scholar, which defeated the Schultz philosophy of practicality and utility. The person to solve this dilemma was none other than Gunther Schultz II, direct descendant of the famous martial theorist himself. Schultz empowered the grimoire with astral properties, enabling the scholar to command the book to disappear and reappear at will. This allowed proponents of the Schultz school to consult the grimoire at any time, significantly expanding their realm of movement. This flexibility would prove invaluable in the time of the Crystal War... An inquiring mind and boundless curiosity--these are the traits one must possess if one wishes to tread the path of the scholar. Illustration by Mitsuhiro Arita *It is theorized that Lungo-Nango possessed the innate qualities of a beastmaster.

More stuff. Apparantly there's only two jobs this expansion, there isn't a plan for a third.
Also, a lottery in which you can win rare stuff. Like AF2. Or ridills.

Q: So, is it correct to say you will be adding 2 jobs to Wings of the Goddess? A: Yes, 2 jobs this time.
---
Q: Tell us about the concepts behind Dancer and Scholar. A: Dancer is a job that must be on the front-lines to heal. In addition, it can enfeeble, and attain a variety of beneficial effects. Scholar is job that skillfully manipulates magic through the use of various abilities.
We made these jobs to fill the perceived lack of healers. For Dancer, we wanted a healer that wouldn't be required to simply sub White Mage and stand off the side.
---
Q: When balancing together 20 jobs, didn't you consider the shortage of tank jobs? A: We don't have much to say about that at this time.
There was certainly a lot of debate during development, but it's hard to explain...
There was talk from the very beginning of making a "tank job," as its called. Basically, we couldn't make a whole new job around that concept... it's hard to give you a complete answer right now.
---
Q: These new jobs seem to be aimed at advanced players. A: That wasn't the intention. When we made Blue Mage during Treasures of Aht Urghan, we thought that job ended up being a little too complicated. Despite that, users of all kinds seemed to be able to grasp the concept of Blue Mage pretty readily.
---
Q: What can we anticipate you guys presenting when the Fan Festival 2007 in Anaheim rolls around? A: It's tough to say, with the release of Wings of the Goddess so close to the Anaheim event.
---
Q: You didn't really touch on how existing jobs will be changed in Wings of the Goddess today. Will we hear about that at Fan Festival 2007? A: Good question (laughs) Well, you'll have to wait and see.
---
Q: Tell use about "Lottery." A: We don't know what we'll do at this time, but we've got a vision (laughs)
It's been discussed for a long time.
About 3 or 4 years now, huh.
It's a little difficult to devise a system wherein gil is collected into a pot and then distributed out to winners. There was the idea to make the reward a highly-sought after item, like the Ridill. We're closing in on a final concept to implement soon. Something where the item changes as more and more gil enters the pot.
---
Q: What prizes are you thinking of? A: What would you like? (laughs) The ideas keep changing.
Winning the prize is based completely on luck, so we thought it best not to include any Lottery-exclusive prizes. It's still being discussed with the staff. Most likely is some amount of gil or an item.
---
Q: As time passes in the world of the past, it seems like the time-line will eventually converge with that of the present-day world. A: It's difficult to think of the game world in terms of real-time. You can freely travel to and from the past, so it is always around the same period of time. We feel "game time" is better measured through the progression of missions.
There's no real concept of time in the world of the past. (laughs)
Time just passes as players interact with each other.
You can see Earth time via the Menus, but as for Vana'diel, only the present-day time is visible.
---
Q: How many players can one invite into their Mog House? A: You can call your current party members into the house by pressing a button to summon them.
Q: What will you be able to do inside the Mog House from here on out? A: For now, just call your friends inside. It's up to the individual to do whatever they've always wanted. (laughs)
---
Q: What plans are there for the Chocobo Circuit? A: With only one race a week you can participate in, there isn't much reason to go to the tracks. We're looking to shorten this restriction to allow players to enjoy more races.
To better prepare for the race, we're going to add a function in the next Version Update where you can view the characteristics and tactics of your various opponents beforehand.
Also, we're talking about adding a variety of NPCs to the races. For example, Trion arriving and affecting the odds for San d'Oria.
---
Q: How are the plans for improved version of AF for Blue Mage, Puppetmaster and Corsair? A: It's not that we don't have plans for it, but it is still unclear how soon they will be implemented. There's an order of priority for developing new items, but either way they will be made.
