Alright guys. I need suggestions on how I should run the Minecraft server. here are a few things I'll need help with:

Admins and Time

This is also fairly important. When do you think I should keep the server running? Since, sadly, this is being ran on my own computer at this point, I still want to be able to play games on it. Should I just have a little sign on here that tells you guys when the server is up, and display in-game when I'm going to shut it down? This may be the best option, because then I can just leave the server up for days when I don't feel like playing anything, and shut it down when I do.
Or do you think I should keep it on during specific times? If you elect to go with this option, we have to figure out when and how long I should keep it up and running.
At some point in time I'm going to fix up an old, shitty computer, maybe put some Linux distro on it, and use that as the server, but ATM that's not really feasible.

How should I go about getting Admins to keep everyone in line? I don't want them to change their gamemode to spawn in a shitton of diamond or anything (which I CAN see with the server logs), I just want them to play like normal and maybe scare some people in line.

The Almost Finished Server
I currently have a Tekkit server up and running, so if you want the IP PM me.

Right now I'm working on connection issues, so it might be a a little bit before you can actually join.

What are we going to do about griefers?:
Warnings + Bans

How would we find moderators that are able to keep track of what's happening?:
Let people apply for it. Once they apply for it, give them mod permissions for 1-2 days and see how they act. If your happy with it, keep them as a mod

How should we go about banning/giving "time outs" to who breaks the rules?:
Well, if they do something once they get a warning. Do it again they get a time out. If they do it once again they get a ban.

What kind of rules would you like to see?:
No stealing, No greifing, No killing (Unless they have permission), No h4x, No The_Doctors.

What times should I keep the server runnning?:
I like the idea of you just putting up alerts for when it open. I'd really prefer it if you did that.

Crash pretty much laid down what the rules should be.

For mods, Feed The Beast seems pretty neat. It's pretty much an updated Tekkit with some extra stuff in it. I wouldn't mind Voltz either, but that one is fairly complicated to play.

Get the herobrine mod.

Yes.

I actually have a lot of fun with that mod.

me myself, i wish they would make a way for servers to play with the aether mod

Also: Herobrine mod is a good idea, i found this sword that was called The Lightning sword and was a herobrine artifact. While the Mod was on i could strike lightning with the sword by left clicking with the sword. It's a sweet mod, although the books and signs that randomly appear get annoying.

finally: My vote goes to Tekkit or anything like it, mostly for the extra kinds of weapons (cause i have no idea how to work the fancy machinery), so if you just did a modded server with Balkon's weapons mod i'd be fine with it.

Edit: Also i like the Mo' creatures mod in tekkit

In regards to what to do with greifers, what Crash said.

Personally I voted for bukkit, with some anti greifing/hacking mods and stuff in place, maybe some things with warps, economy, I dunno.

Also, are you running it off the same I.P?

Just came up with a new idea.
What if I include daily tasks, such as "Create a Nether Portal" or "Build a rail system" and whatnot, and if you contribute you win experience and enchanted items?

Nothing, like, you win a diamond sword with sharpness IV and unbreakability for making something as easy as a nether portal, but the prizes will scale with the difficulty of the task. Maybe at some point we could host ARG-like games and you could win related prizes, like if you defeat a Moon Child wreaking havok, you get his iron sword named "Luna".
Or does that seem too unnecessary?

Sort of reminds me of the old server that had ARG events going on.

Also, make a rail system? Better give a full set of enchanted diamond armor for that. Making a rail system in tekkit is the most tedious fuckery ever.

Well, I was thinking about making it all themed.
I just gave an example to Wolf. I told him to imagine he just saved a bunch of Gorons from some unknown evil that has befallen them, like someone stole their sweetrole, and gave him a set of armor.
It was a red-colored leather set that I enchanted with Fire Protection III, and named "Goron Tunic/Goron Boots/etc.". It pretty much negates any fire damage you take.

Obviously that's pretty OP in my opinion, but it was just an example.

So for making a rail set I would probably go along the lines of giving out a lot of EXP, since I can't really create themed armor around it.
