Hogwarts is in Scotland, and the only school where you can reasonably expect that everyone speaks the same language as you. All students are welcome to Hogwarts, regardless of background, so long as they live in Ireland or the United Kingdom. Although some of the teachers are rumoured to be crazy, it's reasonably safe. The most general of the three schools, it seeks to give students a basic understanding of everything possible, as opposed to one specific field. There are seven mandatory courses, and you can select up to three additional electives in third year. There is also an assortment of clubs that one can participate in. The language of instruction is English. Mandatory courses -Transfiguration --The art of changing things, and hopefully changing them back. -Charms --Arguably the best class to pick up prank ideas. -Defence Against the Dark Arts --Learn how to hex things and not get hexed back. -Herbology --Things grow... slowly. Sometimes they try to eat you. -Potions --Many students leave this class without eyebrows -Astronomy --Which of those bright things is a star? -History of Magic --The first course anyone drops after OWLS. Seriously, won't Binns just move on?! Optional Courses -Ancient Runes --More useful if you're looking into reading Beedle the Bard -Arithmancy --Fortune telling with numbers, who knew the two actually mixed? -Muggle Studies --Muggleborns laugh at all the poor pureblood kids who don't know what's going on -Care of Magical Creatures --One of the job requirements seems to be absolutely crazy and willing to put students in danger -Divination --No one's really sure if the teacher is actually psychic or nuts. Clubs -Gobstones club --Everyone sits around and plays gobstones -Explorer's club --There's no stone unturned until every secret passage has been found Edited by Warlock Sparkles, Mar 15 2015, 09:40 AM.
