It was just past ten in the morning and Andrew had been up for hours, but being a Saturday it wasn't overly busy, His sister had wanted the day with Leah, so Andrew had dropped the little one off about an hour ago. With not having to look after his daughter Andrew had gone for a run around the lake, he could take his daughter into the gym but only for short periods of time it was nice to be able to run outside. He'd gotten back and showered before coming down to the parking area and to his Jeep. He'd only gotten the Jeep after getting Leah, before he'd had a bike, but that just wasn't practical enough and he'd picked this for the price and the ability that it had. He'd also then made his third bugout bag. He had one in his room here and one at the house in Queen's this one would be for the car, he also added to it to include stuff for his daughter. But as she was a baby every time she grew into new clothes and the old had to be donated he had to up date what was in the bag. So while he was swapping her stuff around he was also checking everything in the whole bag for sell by dates and making sure nothing was damaged. A lot of people forgot that just having the bag wasn't good enough you have to check it regularly to make sure that it was up to date and in full working order.

Addison really hated mornings and weekend mornings usally everyone spent the time out and about or on some kind of communication system and its was just a busy time around the school. She usally liked to take off and see her mom, though her powers didn't go away it was just nice to spend the day with her mom and have family time. She was grateful her moms house was far enough from town it was sort of peaceful. She wanted to bring her stuff to the car for later when she had to leave since her mom was still at work.

Her mother didn't have to work really since she had seen to most of her earnings went to buying her mom a house then in an account but she liked the work and meeting new people. As Addison walked to her car she noticed someone else in the garage as she got closer she noticed it was Leah's father Andrew. He looked kind of busy though and she didn't know if she should say hi. It would be totally rude though not to say anything especially if he saw her after she walked by.

As she walked closer she stopped " Hey, morning...." She really didn't have any idea what to say as she gripped the bag in her hands as she stood there awkwardly thinking of something else to say.

Checking the use by dates of the MRE's, as they had a long shelf life he didn't have to change them over all that often so he always made sure to check the date so it didn't surprise him at a later date, he always wanted to be prepared for what came up and what and when it'd need replacing, he had a small note book on him where he'd write down if anything needed changing so he'd know what to pick up. There were different compartments in his bag that meant he didn't have to rummage through the whole thing just to find one small part. Each part was for set things and it made it much easier to find everything. Of course the bottoms stuff was the lighter stuff and the top stuff was the heavier, he didn't know if he'd have to carry the bag for a long distance and so was prepared if that was the case. He'd made so adjustments so that her could secure a baby carry to the front for Leah and that it'd still be comfortable for both of them.

" Hey, morning...."

Hearing a voice quite close by, Andrew assumed that it was someone talking to him, turning around he saw that it was directed at him and that it was the woman he'd met a couple weeks ago. He couldn't remember her name, it was the one thing that he wasn't very good at remembering; names. "Hello." His eyes went from her to the bag in her hand so he did the friendly thing. "Going away?"

"Hello...Going away?"

Addison wasn't sure if he remembered who she was, they had only met for a short time and he was sleep deprived by the baby so she was happy a bit that he knew who she was. He also looked like he was really busy now that she got a sort of closer look at what he was doing. She looked down at her bag and then back up at him, " Yes but no. " she looked at him for a moment before clarifying what she meant. " Going to see my mom later and putting some of the stuff to take to her in my car but like not going for a long time. I just don't want to forget anything later." she said awkwardly.

" What about you, what are you doing on this wonderful early morning?"

Andrew nodded, getting exactly what she was saying but not knowing really what to say back about it at all. Did a simple over night stay need a whole paragraph of speech to explain that? Though he had remembered that she did always seem to talk a lot. Saying more then what was needed on every occasion. Shelby often did the same thing, talking more then was needed. A lot of people did it in reality, but some more noticeably then others.

When she mentioned early Andrew could have sworn it was past ten and so pulled his phone out to check and sure it was it was about ten past. Did people consider ten early? He'd been up since six. "I thought it was more late morning. I'm just going through the bug out bag in my jeep. checking everything and swapping out the nappies and clothes that are too small for Leah now." Had he been speaking to someone who didn't know he had bug out bags he probably would have just said his emergency car kit. Which you could argue was the same thing. But what's her name knew he had them, he remembered what he'd told her.

Well he apparently didn't have much to say about her going to see her mother. Like why would he, he didn't seem to say much and she couldn't help that she liked to talk when she chose to talk. She wasn't always one to speak to people she didn't like everyone but sometimes she opened up to people. People in general were a mystery to her, computers were easier to understand.

Addison shrugged her shoulders it was early morning when you were up late, it just depends how you looked at it. " Well that's all perception isn't it. To you it's late morning cause you were up, to me it's late cause I didn't go to bed till like 4 am. Just depends. " she said as she pushed her glasses up her nose. " ah so that's the babies bug out bag, I was expecting it to be smaller since she was smaller. I'm sure I'm probably wrong about that since it's not really about her size but the supplies she would need and since she's a baby she would need more then normal. " she said quickly having done a bit of research on it after their last talk.

That was something that Andrew disagreed with. Morning was between midnight and noon so ten didn't fit as early on that spectrum at all. "I disagree. It's not about when I got it's about the actual time. four am is morning, just early, so the fact that you then got up later, doesn't make it early, had you not woken up till the afternoon it'd still be the afternoon no mater if you were only just waking." He hoped he hadn't gotten too teachery on her then. But it was how it was. It wasn't different just because of when you went to bed and woke up at.

It was his bug out bag, they were almost the same, he mostly used Leah's nappy bag as her bug out bag as most of the stuff you needed for that you needed with a baby anyway and it meant it was updated plus you he never went anywhere with the baby without that bag, but in case of emergencies he kept extra in this bag too, her nappy bag just clipped to his rucksack and it was sorted. "No this is mostly mine but it's mixed with some of hers. Her Nappy bag is hers seeing as she's never without it. Most people think I just pack it overly prepared, or that Leah throws up and poops a lot more then the average baby does." Andrew finished with a slight shrug pulling a bottle of water out of his bag to swap it over.

Addison couldn't school her face from frowning she very much disagreed with that, she didn't count her day till it was over no matter what time she went to bed. Her time started when she woke up as her morning and the later she went to bed was her evening even if it was at 4am. She knew she was more of a night owl it was just how she ended up being, it was quite for her and she could do her work in peace mostly the later/earlier according to Andrew she stood up. " I think we might have to disagree on this good sir, cause I could talk your ear off on why my way of thinking is right and I am sure in your limited words you would do the same."

Addy tried not to snort in laughter, she actually never thought about that but maybe some people did make that assumption about the baby. They were little pooping machines but the poor baby didn't deserve to have people think about her that way. " That is smart its always with her so she will never be with out it. So what do you have in there, I am still not very sure what to put in one, I mean I did the research but there is some much conflicting data of what you should put in. Like filter straws or iodine pills, but do you for go the bottled water cause you have those or still carry it. The pepper community has no common unifying kit." she said with a eager smile.

Andrew nodded slightly, "Okay, just one thing, if you get up in the afternoon is that still early morning?" He referred to early morning as a time of actual day nothing else. He didn't realise that other people didn't do it as the same. People were different but a time of day didn't seem like something that was arguable. At least to him.

The fact that she had been taking this seriously was a little confusing to him, it wasn't something that was often taken seriously and people who did prepare were often seen as crazy people, but was it really crazy to be prepared for anything? "I don't know where you're looking but he's what I call the reliable thing, you need three different sources for everything. So three different ways for making heat, so personally I carry water bottle and a filter and water purification tablets. If something fails you need a back up and a back up for the back up. Just to be safe. Are you sure you want to see everything that's in here?"

" Depending when I went to bed yeah it could be, just cause it is afternoon to everyone else it is morning to me. Even if I am the only one who thinks that its ok, it doesn't bother me. I know it sounds crazy, I am aware."

Addison was finding this quite interesting, why wouldn't she be taking it seriously? " Why wouldn't I take it seriously, I wouldn't have asked you otherwise. The redundancy of backup is a good thing to remember, and I am totally sure I wanna know what is in there. No fooling I wanna be prepared in case I need to be there is no harm in it. "

Andrew decided to leave that there, while he completely disagreed, he didn't really want to start an argument with her, she clearly felt very strongly in her wrong beliefs but people often believed in things that weren't true and it was usually best to leave them to it, it wasn't hurting him.

It wasn't that he thought she wasn't taking it seriously, he just asked if she wanted to see everything because there was no going back and it would end up costly, getting it set up wasn't a cheap process. "Not like that. It's a big deal and a costly one. The bag is a tactical explorer bag, it's comfy to wear if you need to hike in it and you can fit everything in it. I've edited mine a little, at the front I have some clips where I can fit a baby carry on it. I've tested it so it works good. With picking a bag it's better for something not so military looking, I have it in black so it's not camo looking. You don't want someone to attack you to steal it. But it's a risk I'm willing to take as I can take care of myself and Leah. This bag has a couple of compartments. Slightly different stuff in each. You want to take notes?" Andrew asked as when he opened it there would be a lot more for her to remember.

Addison was paying rapid attention to what Andrew was saying, the kind of bag how he modified it and that you wanna make it unattractive so people wouldn't wanna jack it from you. He was right she should be taking notes why hadn't she thought of that. She put her bag down and was thankful so could take notes using her powers, it was handy when she didn't have a pen and a pad. She used had to use her hands to bring up her online google docs they would be ok there, as she typed in what he had already said before going to ask a question." So this may sound stupid but that bag looks kind of heavy, and I not as fit as you, how heavy does it get? Would I be able to tote that around or should I get something smaller? Money shouldn't be an issue but like I totes not one of those people who throws it around I get whats needed and that's it. I hate spending for things that are so not needed ya know?"

"It's not that heavy. Add my daughter and her bag to it and then it's a little heavy. Get something smaller and you wont be able to fit everything in, but you should get the contents first to assess what size bag you'll really need. Clothing size makes a big difference in the end." It was a little weird watching someone see something that you clearly couldn't. Just different.

"I carry three liters of water, one in a collapsible water bottle, one in a hard water bottle and one in a metal canteen." Andrew pulled all three out, one was near the top as he attached it to his belt and other two were on each side of the bag to even the weight out, then he opened one of the smaller pockets and pilled out a couple of things. "Then I have the water filters straws and the water purification tablets. The idea is to be able to survive seventy two hours off the bag."

Then he started pulling out the next stuff that was at the top of the bag; "Six energy bars, three MRE's, I have mess tins but any metal cooking pot will do, a metal cup, a spork, a pot scrubber a p.38 can opener, two different portable stoves.I have a hexamine stove and a M71." One was just bigger then a pack of playing cards and an M71 and small circular one. "And hexamine fuel tablets." Andrew pulled out a zip lock bag that had a reasonable amount of white square fuel tabs. "In the very front compartment I have; a first aid kit, insect repelant, survival blanket, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, camp soap, signal mirror, travel towel, satellite phone, crank power charger, emergency radio with hand crank, $500 small bills eight quarters, a local map, compass, small note pad and pencil, emergency whistle." Andrew took each item out and piled them next to the bag as he said each one, moving onto the next compartment; "LED head lamp, light glow stick pack of six, candles and spare batteries. I also have a mini LED keychain on my keys. under that, 50 foot of 550 parachute chord, a bandana, 25 foot of duct tape, five spare ziplock bags, two 55 gallon garbage bags, N95 respirator mask, sewing kit, three foot latex tubing, fishing kit, condoms, binoculars, military facepaint, snare wire. The back compartment has one man tent, sleeping bag, ground pad, wool blanket. Then Light wieght long sleeze shirt, zip off trousers, four pairs of wool hiking socks, four pairs of boxers, medium weight fleese, wool hat, working glvoes, rain poncho, shemagh scarf. I keep a winter coat here with the kit for in the winter. In the smaller pockets I have water proof matches, a lighter my third ignition sauce is me." He then pulled out his different tinder sauces each kept in a different ziplock bag. "Cotton ball and vaseline, dryer lint, cedar shavings. Survival knife this I also attach to my belt, a swiss army knife but any multi tool will do, machette, pepper spray. I have some ammo. But I don't keep a gun in this one as it's not that secure. Oh and a could of Leah's clothes one size bigger then she is now and some diapers. Some of the clothing you swap depending on the time of year, but not much."

Addison was supprised at the amount of stuff that he had in there, it was a huge bag for sure but still. She had to hurry to keep up with everything he was saying as she type in short hand what he was saying so that she could make full notes on it later as she looked up some of the items he was saying. His listing of items made sense for most of it but there were some things that she had never heard of. She kept some of the things he said in her head to ask about cause really what the hell was a hexamine fuel tablet and why the hell did you need a condom? Also did she really need military pant for her face? She didn't even know how to apply that stuff. She shook her head at him to let him know she was listing to everything he was saying and taking it down.

Once he was done she finished her typing up, she saved her work but now had questions. " Ok what is three foot latex tubing, Hexamine fuel tabs and why would you need condoms? Also do I need the face paint stuff? I don't think that stuff would make me look fierce. All the rest makes sense but I think I would need some help finding all of this stuff and how to use it. I am proficient camper but not so much survivor."

It wasn't surprising that she had questions, there was always questions when people started off doing this sort of thing. It wasn't easy and some things didn't make sense when you were starting out. "Three foot is the amount of length that you should carry and latex tubing has all sorts of uses, medical, using for ties making a lure, tourniquets. Hexamine is made of hexamethylenetetramine and 1,3,5-Trioxane it's smokeless and burns hot for a long period of time so really helpful. Condoms have a lot of uses." Besides what people think is the obvious there were a lot more uses. "You can use as a water container, keep tinder you find dry and start a fire it burns well, for first aid, make a sling shot to hunt with and make a fishing bobble and use it as a protector for the muzzle of your rifle. The camo paint isn't about looking fierce it's about not being seen. If someone sees you that defeats the point." Andrew paused for a moment thinking about it, partly he didn't want to offer to spend a lot of time with someone he had responsibilities that he didn't want to drop but he guessed he could, though Leah would almost defiantly be there. He was already not spending enough time with his daughter. "I can teach you and help you get the stuff and show you how to use it all. My daughter will probably be there. She needs to learn too anyway."

Ahh that explained the other stuff and she never really thought about the other uses for condoms, like really who did. She was amazed at the things he was saying and the other uses for it, like how did he learn all this. Addison was quite fascinated by Andrew she must admit, his quite knowledge was so unexpected. " That's impressive that you can do all those things with just one thing ya know? I don't think most people know about the applications for other uses."

Code:

"I can teach you and help you get the stuff and show you how to use it all. My daughter will probably be there. She needs to learn too anyway."

Addison stopped and smiled that was really nice of him like completely nice and unexpected. " I would really appreciated that immensely, and you know gotta start them young with the learning. I wish I had something I could offer you in return, but unless you need computer help or baking items I wont be much help. She said as she adjusted her glasses.

Andrew gave half a smile, "Most people don't look at anything and see all the possible uses of each item. Or where every exit is in every room they enter." Some of the was from when he'd been undercover and some of it from when he had been in prison, neither he said to her as he didn't really know her and he wasn't really a person who shared. That wasn't his way.

Doing stuff for people didn't have to always be for something, no one else took this seriously so really the fact that she did was probably enough of a repayment. He had someone who was interested and he could pass on his knowledge too. That was enough for him, but he didn't share that. Instead he just went with; "I try not to ever turn that dread machine on."

This was true most people didn't she sure as hell didn't. She looked for other things in a room like where she could hook up her comp of where the food was depending on the location. " All true we only see what's on the surface and never think about other things."

Addison tried not to be offended, she just smirked computers had been good to her really. "Well yes they are not for everyone, especially older people." she said with a smile hoping he knew she was kidding.

That was often the case, people walked around as if nothing would ever go wrong that they'd never end up in a situation where they needed to know where exits were, or like in prison how to make weapons out of what you have available to you. Being a survivalist was in some ways a state of mind, once you opened yourself up to the possibility that everything could go wrong at the drop of a hat it became so much easier to see what you don't normally see.

Hating technology always landed him with people calling him old. "Mmm and what are you twelve?" Andrew responded, he hoped the exaggeration noted that he hadn't taken her comment too seriously. What need did he had of a computer if everything went to hell and he dropped off the radar? He'd just finished packing everything back into his bag. "I have a ton of things to get done before getting Leah back and you're clearly busy yourself. So I'll have to leave it here for now but-" Andrew paused while he pulled a pen out of his pocket and a small notepad jotting down his number and pulling the page off and handing it to her. "Call me, we can set something up."
