Andrew had gotten up early, he'd sorted most of his kit out the night before but he had made sure that everything was good this morning, dropping off Leah and her stuff to his sister in the room next to his. He was very quiet not really having much to say to his sister. He'd given his daughter a kiss goodbye before going back to his room and getting everything to take down to his jeep. He hoped Leah wasn't too fussy, she'd started getting really bad when he wasn't around, worse with strangers then with people she already knew but this was going to be probably longer then he had left her before. Addison had met him in the parking garage and they'd set out leaving at six am, they were about half way to the forest, Andrew was taking them to a place there that he knew had no cell signal or anything. It was off the grid and that was what he wanted, for her to not be able to rely on modern technology because it wouldn't always be there. Andrew had been quiet most of the time, he was often quiet not always saying a lot but this was more so, he hadn't said anything since saying morning to her when they got in the car. Until now; "You still awake?" |

Addison stopped focusing on the Netflix show she had streaming in her head when Andrew spoke, of course she was awake. She didn't want to be asleep, she wanted to know where they were going and not be completely clueless. He seemed more quite then usual but she wasn't gonna ask, she had learned that when he was ready he would talk in his own time. She didn't mind one bit she could appreciate the silence, " I am awake, was just watching something and keeping an eye on where we are but my reception is getting a bit spottie right now. I'd ask if you were awake but duh otherwise i'd be driving." she said with a smile after her slight ramble. |

Given how quiet it had been Andrew had temporarily forgotten how much Addison did like to talk, but as she started saying more than was strictly necessary Andrew couldn't help but find something slightly comforting. "I don't do being a passenger." Andrew commented honestly. "If you're ever in a country where you can't buy or take pepper spray you know you can make it using chilli's." Andy offered out that little helpful bit of defense information because he couldn't remember if he'd ever told her it before. Personal protection was really important. "The reception will just get worse from here on out so best not to rely on it too much. I have a sat phone in case of an emergency but it's turned off." Andrew just let her know so she didn't worry too much in case anything happened, he didn't mention he had one of his guns because the forest where they were going had bobcats and he didn't want to start a forest fire, he'd let her know when they were a lot closer. "I'm also thinking of stepping back as a teacher." |

Well that answer and questions came out of no where, she hadn't even asked that question but on the other hand it was useful information though. She wondered how you refined it to make the spray, did you have to grind it or put it in some kind of solutions. " So how do you do it? Put it in water or like grind it up?" she asked interested in the answer. She understood that they were heading into a dead zone and she figured as much since they were heading out father into the country. She wasn't freaked about it she had been in dead zones before. She trusted Andrew to make sure that things were ok where ever they were going so she was relaxed about it. " Guess no more Netflix then, and good thinking about the phone." she said with a smile. They would at least be able to get a hold of someone if they needed too.
Well that was interesting she always thought from the way he spoke about teaching that he liked it good enough and the kids. " Well that's interesting is there a reason why? Are the kids becoming too much or just not into teaching anymore?" |

When he mentioned the pepper spray he wasn't surprised that she then asked how to make it, it was something that wasn't that hard to make or work out if you played about a bit. "Boil whole peppers, you want spicy ones not bell peppers, then blend it with enough water so it will spray through a little spray bottle." Andy answered as he checked the sign he just drove past.
With a slight shake of the head keeping his eyes on the road, "No it's not them. It takes a lot of time up being a teacher and organising classes. Marking homework. I'd much rather free up some of that time to use with Leah but I'll then also have time to help anyone on an idividual basis that needs it." |

Huh so you would just make it back into a liquid, she thought about for a moment wouldn't the pulp from the blender be a problem? " What if you juiced it? It takes the pulp out and gives you the pure pepper, just a thought. I mean your way works but i just wondered." she said as she looked at his profile.
She thought it made sense, he had a lot more responsibility now with Leah. " So is that what you wanna do just do tutoring of the students of another line of work in mind. I completely agree being a teacher takes a lot of time commitment. " she said as she shook her head. She wondered what he would do other wise, it was only a few years before Leah started going to school herself. Well at least preschool and that was half a day and she knew he wasn't the kind of guy to just sit around. |

"You have to strain it first. A juicer might work I don't really know, there are a lot of recipes on the web, I've never made it before. Never had to." Andrew answered, not only was he a black belt in two martial arts he also could produce fire. He just carried one in his bug out bag just in case it was better to have something you didn't think you'd ever need then not have something and realise that you need it later on. "I was planning on going back to just doing security systems administration. It's good work, I know the work and when I'm off I can actually focus on Leah and not on marking or planning." Andrew spoke honestly, maybe he'd look into something else in the future but for right now it was what he knew how to do and he was good at it. Time passed with some small talk, before they finally made it to the forest. Andrew knew they had quite a bit to go. From the car park they had a two hour hike before they made it to the location he'd planned and knew was perfect for this day. This was a minimal kit training so there really wasn't much that he wanted her to take with her. "Right then, lets grab the kit." |

Addison shook her head, it was a more flexible arrangement indeed, he could pick the shift and work when he was able. " So you're talking for the school right? I mean if you are then she could potentially hang with you too in the office. I mean there is like two of you right so not many people around to mind in the least." she said as she thought about it. She liked the small talk with him because it was always interesting , it wasn't just trivial knowledge it was real information that should be remembered. She got out with him when they reached the parking area, " Ok kit gotten, where to now buddy?" she said as she waited for instructions. She looked around for a moment she couldn't detect any wireless signal at all. |

"Yes the school, it's what I do besides teaching right now. I find the time easily manageable and I'm sure when needed I'd be able to have Leah there." The office didn't have that many people in it and he often could do work outside of it. Sometimes he did nights to catch certain students when they were breaking curfew. That was always amusing. Once out of the car Andrew grabbed his belt which had a longer knife in it's holster and a short hunting knife in a holster attached. clipping it on Andrew then attached his thigh holster, he'd decided to bring a magnum, it'd be powerful enough to kill anything that got in the way all without the clumsiness of a hunting rifle. Then he picked up his camelbak it was his slightly bigger one so he could fit a couple of other essentials in it. "What do you have?" Andrew asked wanting to find out what she had brought so he could then sort this part of the challenge out. But first he sent a quick text to Shelby. How's it going There wasn't much single and he just wanted to check in before they left and he left his phone in the car. |

" Sounds like a well thought out plan Andrew." she said with a smile. She watched him strap on the gun and she raised her eyebrow, did they really need a gun? They were gonna be out in the wild but a gun? That was something they hadn't touched on yet. Addy took out her own pack of supplies and her bag was just about as big as Andrews but she was sure it was not filled as much as his was. She slung the pack open as she started to talk. " Ok so I have , water straws, water, jerky and protein bars. I also have water proof matches, a first aid kit, a light, extra pair of socks, cordage and a knife. Those were the major things I have with me. Its stuff we have gone over that would be needed for something like this." she said with grin |

Andrew nodded as she mentioned a list of thing that she had on her. Holding out his hand Andrew said a couple of words. "Let me see." When she handed it over clearly not sure what he was going to do be he was sure she had no idea what he was about to do. He knew that she'd think that this was mean but he so could have been meaner. He opened a car door and started taking items out of the bag and putting them back in the car. He decided to let he keep the bag and the water. "You can keep those and this." Andrew pulled a simple standard Swiss Army Knife out of his pocket and handed it over. "Being prepared is something that helps but you have to know how to survive with nothing, or in this case almost nothing. That's what were learning today. You ready to go? There's nothing too bad around here but there are bobcats so be careful." |

She did not like the looks of him taking all her gear out, she had packed it perfectly and it was just like he had showed her. This was some bs why did he tell her to pack all of her stuff if he was just gonna take it all out, it was like a waste of her time. " Why did you have me pack it all anyway?" she said a bit frustrated.
" How am I to learn with nothing? I mean like I don't know much now how am I to learn when I don't really know much to begin with. Also what the hell are we gonna do if a bobcat does show up, its not like you can light up the entire forest to protect us and I don't have that kind of power." she was a bit worried to be sure. She didn't wanna face a bobcat, what the hell else was out here? Bears? |

"Because had I told you before hand you would have been prepared to be here with nothing. The likelihood of you being without supplies in the wilderness isn't going to be when you're prepared for it." He also wanted to go to basics because sometimes all the different contractions were just confusing and they took away your ability to see what's useful around you. It wasn't like he was just dumping her in the wilderness like he'd been sometimes when he'd been a teen. "It's about thinking and seeing what's around you. I'll be here the whole time. I will take care of the Bobcat." Andy said as he patted his gun. "Calm down. We'll be fine, you'll learn something about yourself you never knew before and if you really can't do anything I can help you." He wasn't going to be a complete jerk about it all. |

Damn right she would have been prepared and she would have researched on how to be prepared with nothing. She just looked at him cause she was kind of not happy with the situation at all, he didn't leave much in her backpack that was super super useful and it just sucked.
She didn't wanna point out that she didn't think a gun could solve everything like the bob cat. " You still have to teach me thats the whole point of this is that I know nothing." how was she suppose to do things when she didn't know what she should be doing? |

"Lets just head out okay." Andrew said as he started the walk towards the path into the woods, they'd stay on the dirt path for awhile before moving out further. "You just have to think. What do I need to survive. What are the core principles look around you and see what there is available to help you achieve that. You're not always going to have the stuff you think you need. Sometimes that's what weighs you down. You have to flexible with things." Andrew said not really getting her tone or the fact that she was clearly upset at him. He probably should have noticed but in a social situation he wasn't that good at noticing social queues. |

She followed him when he told her too, she was quit as she thought and followed him. She was upset he haden't told her but she also knew if she didn't calm down and get out of her funk she wouldn't learn what she needed too. She would continue to be upset and then lash out at him as a result. She thought of a large number and divided it in her head over and over till she got a number under ten. The mental calculations calming her and soothing her and that's when she heard Andrew speak. " I guess I'd need things like water, a weapon and fire. Three basic things to help you survive, and if all goes well a shelter maybe? " she asked questionly. |

Andrew walked carefully so not to make much of a noise when he tread, however he didn't walk slowly he walked at a good hiking pace, he didn't even think about walking too fast, he was fairly sure that Addison would make him slow down. Addison's answer wasn't bad, it wasn't necessarily in the correct order for prioritising but it wasn't bad, he hadn't actually been trying to quiz her but it wasn't bad for her to have an idea of what she should be trying to do in what order, working out how to do that in a situation would be important. "Water is the most important. A weapon isn't that important. The chances of anything attacking you are slim but shelter should be bumped up as that is really important. Shelter is combined with warmth where do you think your sleeping? Don't forget food either." Andy didn't mention he had a tent that she was probably going to be sleeping in as he wasn't that much of an arse to make her sleep in a temporary home made accommodation. |

Well she had said water first but like she could survive sleeping on the ground as long as she had fire to keep her warm. She almost beg to differ that that a weapon wasn't so important if there was a freaking mountain lion. Food though was a good point, she would need it. She would have to find some small game or nuts and berries in the the wild. " I said water so a lake or stream, and what about a fire? Is a shelter nessecerry if i have that? I could sleep on the ground if i had one going. I'd also say what ever i find in the wild like nuts and berries?" she asked with a question. |

He hadn't meant that she hadn't said water he was just agreeing and mentioning that it was the most important. But he stood by a shelter there was a lot that could go wrong with a fire. "What if it rains? A fire wont start on the wet ground and you can't keep it burning all night long, not if you intend to sleep plus fire is dangerous it burns high and smokes so if anyone is hunting you then you'll be found easily. Do you know what berries are poisonous in this region? Or do you know some that aren't dangerous at all? Be carefully about what you stick in your mouth." As they walked Andrew heard a noise in the under growth. There was something there, it was probably a squirrel but it sounded bigger. Andrew didn't say anything because he wasn't sure and didn't want to alert her to something that wasn't a problem. But his hand drifted down to his thigh and he un-clipped his holster and rested his hand on the grip. |

Addison understood what he was saying but she didn't agree at all, but at the same time she didn't know what the hell she was doing either. She just hated being wrong about things and it wasn't like Andy was being smug about it but still it kind of upset her. She sighed at behind him, " All of those are valid points you are making but you can make fire and as long as I am with you i don't have to worry. " she said being a smart ass. " I also don't know what to eat or anything so you will have to show me. " She heard rustling in the naturey area and it wasn't just a tiny sound and then she noticed Andy reaching for his gun and she wished she had a combat power. She got closer to him and lined herself up to be behind him. She was gonna let him take the first wave god she hoped it was like a lost dog or something cute and small. |

"I'm not always going to be here. Plus there are times when I can't use my powers." Andrew didn't elaborate as it wasn't that important they all had weaknesses to their powers. "All I'm asking is that you try and work it out. I wont let you eat anything poisonous." Sometimes it was a good lesson to learning eating something that gave you the runs but he didn't really want to let that happen to Addison. Though he'd happily let it happen to his sister he wasn't sure of the reasoning behind it. Andrew didn't stop walking and the rustling stopped and nothing happened. after a couple of minutes Andrew dropped his hand from the gun but didn't redo the clasp just yep. As time passed and they walked and nothing else happened he felt Addison more back away from being in his personal space. That's when it did happen. Andrew hadn't ever seen a bobcat attack usually they stayed away from humans but that didn't mean that he wasn't prepared, through years of conditioning and training his hand grabbed the pistol from his drop holster and whipped it up as the bobcat was mid pounce to Addison he fired the high powered handgun twice into the wild cat's head the power knocking it off course and it landing on the ground to the side and short of Addison. Andrew frowned as he placed his safety back on and re-holstered the firearm. |

Addison just grunted at him, yeah he would wait till she was like touching the poisonous berries before he told her they were bad. She sighed though he was right she had to learn these things, she had asked for his instruction so who was she to sass his teaching methods when she asked for them in the first place. She stuck close to him as they continued on their journey until she felt it was safe to back off, she hadn’t heard anything else stirring in the wild wilderness as the trek continued until she did moments later. She wasn’t sure if what happened in slow motion or if that was just how she perceived it in the moment, as she was one second walking looking around and then the next she saw some fleeting image to her side flying at her. She only heard the shot she never actually remembered Andrew taking out the gun or seeing it fired into the she assumed was a bobcat’s body since she had never seen one up-close. She looked at the large beast and saw it bleeding; she could feel her heart beating so fast she was sure you could see the visible thudding on her chest. Her first though after a moment was she almost could have died and her second was Andrew had saved her. She didn’t know what she was thinking but she couldn’t hold back any longer, she had almost died and she had never even kissed her sort of boyfriend. She quickly closed the gap between them and pulled his head to her before she gave him a kiss on the lips and mumbling thank you before giving him another quick peck. |

Andrew was thinking about getting his sat phone out to call the park rangers because they had to check for rabis as bobcats rarely attacked people, but before he got that out he was about to ask Addison if she was alright when he felt her hands on his head and her lips on his. At first he was tense but he relaxed into the kiss just as it ended. Although she did peck him on the lips again Andrew was extremely confused. Sure it was nice and sure she was an extremely attractive and lovely woman, but this was kind of completely out of th blue wasn't it? He certainly hadn't seen it coming and his face probably had an expression of confusion written all over it. "That was a little erm strange? Nice but I'm not sure I know where it came from." |

Addison tried not to looked shocked but she wasn't sure she was any good at it. What did he mean he didn't know where that came from, she was confused. She took her arms from around his neck and took a step back , she could feel her face flushing from embarrassment. She couldn't look at Andrew now, she stared at the forest floor as she spoke " I-" she sighed " I thought abet unconventional but I thought we were dating. " She screwed up her features as she thought about it, they really had never spoken about dating but she had thought these were dates, weird ones but none the less dates. Apperntily she was so wrong about it and now she didn't know what to do but she didn't want to be here with him right now. There was no where to go though because she was sure if she trekked out on her own she was bound to get lost and die. |

Well that certianly was awkward. She had thought they were dating. Maybe his sister had been on to something when they'd previously talked. Not that he'd ever tell her that, not in a million years. But now that it was a reality and it was right in front of him things were different. He'd never allowed himself the luxury of thinking about anything else. Dating wasn't something that he was really open to. Leah was his everything and that meant his life including his love life had to come second to any of her needs and bringing different women who ended up leaving with a break up wasn't something he wanted to put onto his daughter. But now that she had clearly been open he had to admit that he did like her, a lot. He needed to tell her all of this because despite the fear that he'd start something romantic with her and then something would happen and she'd be gone and he and Leah would end up broken hearted. But he didn't do this he didn't talk he didn't know how to communicate how he felt about anything. It wasn't something he did, however he couldn't let her go on thinking that he didn't care, because if that ended up being the case then the chances of what he feared happening if he started dating could happen now. Taking a step forward Andrew began to speak. "I-" Before stopping and putting his hand on her shoulder then his other hand on her cheek lifting her face up too look at him before kissing her deeply. Trying to say the things that he didn't know how to voice with a kiss. |
