Doug followed her quickly and she held onto him, body responding to his as he found his own pleasure. Reached his own crest and then went over.

Seconds or minutes or long, Topaz wasn't certain how much time had passed. Nor did it matter. The moments and the feelings and the actions were timeless. Instinctive. Primal, in a way.

He drove into her and she gasped, arms tightening around him, feeling the tension slowly ebb from his muscles and tendons, much as they did from her own. He relaxed against her almost bonelessly and a soft hint of a smile curved her lips, hands stroking lightly over his back.

Her own breath was coming in short gasps, but slowing by degrees, heartrate doing much the same. It had been a long time. A very long time, but the weightless settling back to earth was like an old familiar friend.

Turning her head and her smile toward Doug, she gave him a gentle squeeze, reaching up to stroke the back of his hair lightly. He was sweet. Very sweet. And so she hoped it had been for him everything that he'd hoped it would be.

"Are you all right?" she asked softly, more for something to break the silence, comfortable as it was, than any true concern. After all, he'd seemed fine enough through it all.

He felt...actually, Doug was having a hard time figure out exactly what it was he felt. His heart was still pounding, his breathing irregular. And yet...a strange lethargy had set in, leaving his arms and legs feeling leaden, as if he couldn't move them even if he wanted to. And he didn't. He could just lie here indefinitely, enjoying the feeling of Topaz's hand tracing his back, her breath against his cheek.

After some deliberation, he finally managed to summon up a word to describe the feeling, and nearly laughed at the realization. Relaxed.

Apparently, everyone was right when they said he didn't do it often enough.

Topaz's hand moved to his hair, and he turned his head a little, returning her smile as he reached up lazily to stroke his fingers over her shoulder. "Are you all right?" she asked softly.

This time, he did laugh, just a little. "Fine," he assured her, his smile a little dazed. "Better than fine." There was a word for that, probably, but just now, he didn't feel any need to find it. "You?"

He knew the answer to that, or was reasonably sure he did, at least. But it seemed like the thing to ask, anyway.

He turned his head slightly, meeting her smile with one of his own. Yes, he looked all right, didn't he? And he certainly seemed to be all right as his fingers traced lightly over her bare shoulder.

Doug looked...content, perhaps? Or perhaps it was her own relaxation she was projecting. Whichever, he hardly seemed anything but at ease and that was a good thing.

Still, Topaz felt the need to voice the words all the same. Not from any real sense of concern. Certainly, she'd have sensed it if anything had been amiss. No, more for something to break the silence, even if it wasn't an uncomfortable one.

That made him laugh a little and her own smile tipped toward a grin. Yes, silly question perhaps, but again, she felt the need to ask. And hoped he wouldn't mind.

"Fine," he assured her, his smile a little dazed and that was very sweet, too. "Better than fine." There was a word for that, probably, but just now, he didn't feel any need to find it. "You?"

With a nod of her head, her fingers continued to slide through the sunshine colored strands of his hair. Bending her head toward him, her lips brushed lightly over his cheek. Soft and affectionate.

"I'm very fine," she replied in turn, pulling back to meet his blue eyes with her own brown ones. "And very relaxed."

Which wasn't something easily come by in this life, so she was quite glad of it. Just as glad as she was that he seemed happy with how things had gone. Doug really was very nice and very sweet.

Perhaps she should leave, let him rest now, but...not just now. In a moment, or if he asked, but for now she was warm and relaxed and she'd like to keep that a few moments longer. Hopefully he wouldn't mind.

Relaxed. It was a novel sensation, and so long since he'd experienced it that it was hard to identify for a moment. Even the TO virus seemed nearly dormant; to judge from the lack of whirring activity in his head, the sense of lethargy in his muscles. This, this was what it was like then, just to be "Doug".

Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing, after all.

Topaz asked if he was alright, and he couldn't help but laugh before assuring her that he was fine. Better than fine, even. It seemed a bit strange that she didn't know; he was used to Emma popping in and out of his head whenever she wanted. But then, he vaguely remembered a time when he'd known telepaths who didn't wander through people's minds as a matter of course. Topaz, it seemed, was one of those.

It was sweet. Refreshing. Amazing. But then, so was she. All of the above, and more.

He asked the same question in turn as his fingers traced lightly over her shoulder, down her arm, and she nodded, her fingers brushing through his hair as she leaned in to brush her lips lightly over his cheek.

"I'm very fine," she assured him, grinning a little as she pulled back to meet his eyes with hers. Warm and brown, and just as he had when he'd first seen her, he felt as if he could lie there, looking at them forever. Lost. Or maybe found.

Or maybe there wasn't such a huge difference between the two, after all.

"And very relaxed," she added, and once again, he laughed softly before leaning in to brush his lips over hers. It wasn't just him, then. For some reason, that was reassuring, too.

"Very, he agreed softly, smiling as he moved his hand to trace along her jaw, around the curve of her chin. Wondering if...

"Would you stay?" he asked hopefully, meeting her eyes as his smile tilted into something closer to a crooked, somewhat self-conscious grin. "I mean, more than likely someone's going to pound on the door at 3am with something they need right now, so I understand if you'd rather not. But...would you?"

Tonight. Or maybe forever. Just now, those didn't seem all that different, either.

He was all right. She was all right. Very relaxed, quite content. Doug seemed to feel much the same way and so that was settled then.

"Very, he agreed softly and her own smile widened a bit as his fingers skimmed over her skin, along her jaw and chin. That was nice. Very nice. It made her skin warm and her eyes want to close.

Yes, very comfortable. Perhaps a little too much so.

And, Topaz reminded herself, she should probably take her leave before she got any more so. It had to be getting late and, even if she was very comfortable and inclined to do anything but move, Doug probably would like his rest and his room to himself. Most people did and she understood that well enough.

"Would you stay?" Or perhaps she didn't understand as much as she thought she did. There was hope in his voice and his eyes as they met hers. A hint of self-consciousness in the tilt of the corner of his mouth. That was sweet, too, and he meant it. Easy enough to tell it wasn't just something he was saying from politeness. "I mean, more than likely someone's going to pound on the door at 3am with something they need right now, so I understand if you'd rather not. But...would you?"

The dark haired girl let out a soft laugh, arms tightening around him briefly. "Is there anywhere on this entire airship," or was it a real ship of some sort, or both? She had no idea what to call the thing that flew and swam and seemed to perform in every way like some huge, air and sea-going battleship, "that's safe from someone pounding on the door at three am?" Even tonight?

It wasn't a serious question, since there could be only one answer: Nowhere at all. Those things were common even before they'd all boarded this flying thing and Topaz doubted if they'd get a reprieve from that even tonight.

"Are you sure?" she asked more seriously, gentle smile still curving her mouth as she watched his face, one hand stroking lightly up and down his bare back. "It's all right if you'd rather I go. It's going to be a long day tomorrow I suspect. But, if you'd really rather I stay, then yes. I'd like that very much."

It had been a very long time since she'd done that as well. The idea sat very well with her.

Would she stay?

He hoped so. Lying here with her was comfortable; far more comfortable than it should be, really, considering they'd just met an hour or so earlier. There should probably be some awkwardness, some embarassment at his own impulsiveness, but there wasn't. But then, everything had been easier than it should've been from the start, and he really didn't want to break whatever spell they seemed to be caught up in by her leaving.

On the other hand, he felt it was only fair to add the disclaimer that they were likely to be woken (probably by Ali, given her track record the last couple of days, but he could provide a list of other likely culprits upon request) by someone having some kind of emergency at 3am. She might get more sleep back in her own room.

Topaz laughed at that, her arms tightening around him. "Is there anywhere on this entire airship," and he smiled as the mental image of the helicarrier redone in steampunk style popped into his head, "that's safe from someone pounding on the door at three am?"

She'd probably meant it rhetorically - no, he was certain she had, actually, but he pretended to give the question serious consideration nonetheless. Was there anywhere? "Maybe the laundry room?" he teased softly, smiling at her as he followed the curls of her hair with his finger, watching as they curled around it. "I'm not sure I'd want to sleep there, though."

"Are you sure?" she asked, her tone less playful though she continued to smile, her hand stroking his back lightly. "It's all right if you'd rather I go. It's going to be a long day tomorrow I suspect. But, if you'd really rather I stay, then yes. I'd like that very much."

He met her eyes once more, and smiled softly as he realized she meant it. "Are the days ever not long?" he asked, turning the question around on her just as she'd done a few moments before. "But I'd like it if you would." His smile tilted into a crooked grin as he tried unsuccessfully to stifle a yawn, and shook his head. "I might even get some sleep," he joked, deciding it was a safe assumption that rumors of his sleeping habits, or lack thereof, had probably made their way around the Resistance by now. Everything else generally did.

Awakened in the middle of the night? That was normal enough. Certainly not anything Topaz would bother worrying about. These last years, being woken in the middle of the night happened more often than not, she was sure.

So she simply laughed and hugged him gently and observed that there was likely nowhere on this giant airship someone had apparently allowed Johnny Storm to name the 'Awesome, for reasons she couldn't begin to fathom, that would be safe from middle of the night interruptions. Whether they were together here or alone separately.

Something in that had Doug smiling and she was tempted to take just a small peek to see what, but she resisted. It wasn't polite and, whatever it was hardly mattered if it made him smile. Though now he seemed to be giving the question more serious consideration than she'd expected.

"Maybe the laundry room?" he teased softly, smiling at her as he followed the curls of her hair with his finger, watching as they curled around it. "I'm not sure I'd want to sleep there, though."

Still smiling, her head tilted slightly toward his fingers as they idly played with her hair. She'd always liked that. "I'm not sure even that would be safe, but no. I don't think sleeping in the laundry is the answer, either."

So, if he was sure that he wanted her to stay, she would. Though if he'd rather she go, the sorceress would understand that, too. Tomorrow was going to be taxing, momentous if they managed what they were hoping, draining, to be sure, no matter which way the pendulum swung. But if he'd rather she stay here, then she wouldn't deny it was something she'd also like very much.

This - the closeness, the companionship, the warmth and affection - it was good. Appreciated. Something she'd missed. Here was somewhere she was more than content to stay.

Doug met her eyes, his smile softening as she reached up to slide her fingers through the light strands of his hair. "Are the days ever not long?" he asked, turning the question around on her just as she'd done a few moments before. "But I'd like it if you would." His smile tilted into a crooked grin as he tried unsuccessfully to stifle a yawn, and shook his head. "I might even get some sleep," he joked and she laughed softly. Yes, she had heard something about his rather odd sleeping habits, or lack of perhaps, hadn't she?

"That would be a worthy achievement from what I understand," Topaz teased gently, "And I'd very much like to stay."

To punctuate that fact, she leaned up enough to brush her lips over his. Yes, she'd stay, and happily so.

Topaz was right. Even the laundry room was unlikely to be safe from middle of the night interruptions, also the more so given all the teams who'd converged upon the helicarrier. Still, it hardly mattered. He wasn't interested in spending the night there, anyway.

Spending the night with her was another story entirely. He had to admit that, lying there curled against her with her fingers teasing through his hair, he couldn't think of anything he wanted to do more. Except possibly sleep. Much to his embarassment as he tried and failed to stifle a yawn, sleep seemed very appealing right now.

Admitting as much summoned a soft laugh, as he'd more than half expected; he had a feeling his eccentric sleeping habits were verging on legendary, probably thanks in no small part to the harping of not one but two Kitty Prydes and a certain demon sorceress on the subject.

"That would be a worthy achievement from what I understand," Topaz teased, and he shrugged and smiled sheepishly in response. That was one way of wording it, he supposed, but he had the feeling the credit for the achievement was all hers. "And I'd very much like to stay."

She leaned in, then, brushing her lips over his by way of confirmation, and he smiled and pressed in against her gently, his fingers still teasing through her hair. "I'm glad," he said softly but honestly, his eyelids drooping a little. Still, there was one thing he should check on, however reluctant he was to bring it up at the moment. "Will your spell last until morning?" he asked softly, his eyes meeting hers once more and his smile fading a little, turning just a little wistful.

He might want her to stay, more than anything he could think of just now. But if it would put her at any risk - no. However distasteful the idea sounded at the moment, he'd rather sleep alone than risk repaying her with that.

To sleep, perchance to dream.

It seemed like an apt quotation to come to mind, since rumor had it that Doug rarely took time for either. No wonder her was tired. No wonder sleep and relaxation seemed very appealing at the moment.

This was, as she understood things, a very worthy achievement. Or at least she couldn't help teasing him a bit that that was the case. He smiled again, shrugged a little self-consciously and her own smile widened. That was a very appealing expression and she wondered if he knew that.

Only one small reason out of many that she'd very much like to stay, if he wanted her to.

The dark haired sorceress sealed that with a light kiss, just a brush of her lips against his. Soft and sweet. Tonight, of all nights, she hadn't relished the idea of spending alone. But even if that hadn't been the case, she'd still have been happy to stay.

That brought another smile to his face, the gentle press of his body against hers as his fingers toyed with the stray locks of her hair. "I'm glad," he said softly but there was honesty there, in his eyes and voice. Not just a bit of politeness, like it might've been from most people. "Will your spell last until morning?" he asked softly, his eyes meeting hers once more and his smile fading a little, turning just a little wistful.

Lifting her hand to stroke her finger idly along the curve of his cheek, the line of his jaw, Topaz returned his smile with one of her own. "Yes, it should easily last that long. I should probably remove it, actually, before we leave for the day tomorrow. Just in case."

He might not need whatever abilities this TO virus gave him, but if he did and had no access to them because of her magic, then it was far better to be safe. They all had more than enough working against it without adding more.

She wanted to stay.

Her smile summoned one from him in turn. He'd like nothing better, there was no doubt in his mind about that. Despite the unlikelihood that they'd remain uninterrupted until morning, spending the night with her, after what they'd just done, sounded incredibly appealing. Sleeping, strangely enough, sounded attractive as well, despite his apparently gossip-worthy general aversion to the practice.

Still...one thought came to mind, unbidden. Would her spell last until morning? If she'd said, he couldn't remember - small wonder, as his mind seemed to be barely churning along at this point, beyond pure sensory input and the occasional desire to blurt out his unending affection. Hopefully if she had, she wouldn't be offended by him asking again.

Her fingers traced along the curve of his cheek, along his jaw, as Topaz smiled. "Yes, it should easily last that long. I should probably remove it, actually, before we leave for the day tomorrow. Just in case."

Tomorrow. Doug sighed softly, acknowledgement tinged with regret. He'd need it tomorrow, he had no doubt about that. While her mystical protections might prove an additional safety net, they could also easily prove a complication if the currently quiescent virus refused to respond when needed. He couldn't chance it. Still...

"Tomorrow's still a long way away," he replied, as much in response to his own internal debate as to what she'd said. Smiling softly, he leaned in, impulsively brushing his lips over hers yet again as he closed his eyes, listening to the welcome near-silence within his own mind.

And after tomorrow - well, who knew? The cure for the virus was now locked inside it, password protected against tampering. Maybe someday he'd actually bring himself to use it. For the moment, though, he'd very happily settle for this. Especially since there was no sense of "settling" at all.

(End. Continued for both Doug and Topaz at the Triskelion, after off panel awakenings by Vance)
