Alright, Jamie wasn't likely to run off to the other dimension just because of poor hair style decisions, and she probably did deserve the eyeroll Kitty sent her as a reply. "If he does that, he's got way more problems that need seeing about than what your hair looks like," her best friend pointed out, grinning.

"Oh, he's always got problems," Illyana pointed out, returning the other girl's grin. "It'd just be a matter of adding another to the list." Hopefully, though, it would be academic, and Jamie'd like the new style as much as Kitty was predicting. And the color, for that matter, though they'd have to wait a while to get to the stage. Hair chalk turned out odd colors when applied to wet hair, and given the longevity spell she'd put on it - well, she wasn't looking for puce highlights for the next two weeks. They'd have to move on to cutting Kitty's - which, she suspected, was something Kitty was actively trying to procrastinate on.

Honestly, she'd said she wouldn't do anything drastic. And she'd meant it. Mostly. A new style wasn't drastic at all, though, and that she might be able to get away with. It all depended on how much attention Kitty was paying to what she was doing.

"Yeah, okay, let's do that. I don't wanna know what 'weird results' are with magic hair chalk," she told her best friend with a grin. "Not too much off mine, though, remember?" she added, and Illyana rolled her eyes as she got up out of the chair and gestured for Kitty to take her place. "I'm really not into drastic change right now."

"No mohawk, got it," Illyana promised, then made a cross her heart gesture and nodded decisively. Reaching for the comb, she grinned at Kitty's reflection and added, "Though y'know, I think it'd be a better look for you than it was for Ororo. Honestly, what was she thinking with that?"

And really, she hadn't lied. There was no way she was going to give Kitty a mohawk, or even anything anywhere near as drastic. On the other hand - well, drastic change might be ought, but change wasn't always a bad thing, either.

Somehow, she didn't think one change of hairstyle was going to send Jamie running out of the entire dimension. Or anybody running out of the entire dimension. And if it did? Kitty was pretty sure that meant Jamie had way more issues, still, that'd need looking at than phobia of hair related changes.

"Oh, he's always got problems," Illyana pointed out, returning the other girl's grin. And really, didn't they all? "It'd just be a matter of adding another to the list."

Yeah, see? Exactly.

"Yeah, pretty sure he'll survive the shock of a new hairdo," Kitty asserted again before they hashed out what came next. Couldn't do the color with wet hair, apparently. At least if they didn't want unexpected side effects, and that was something the brunette would definitely take a pass on.

Magic hair chalk and 'weird results' weren't words she wanted to put together when it came to things on top of her head. Plus, not so much with the drastic change right now. She had plenty, so maybe a reminder for her best friend to go easy on the cutting?

Couldn't hurt, she decided, even if Yana was rolling her eyes as she motioned for her to take her place in the chair of hair styling.

"No mohawk, got it," Illyana promised, then made a cross her heart gesture and nodded decisively as Kitty wrinkled her nose at her on principle and plopped down in the seat.

"Yeah, when you say it like that, I'm not sure it makes me feel all that much better," she teased, then tried not to think of all the things between where her hair was and 'mohawk' that the other girl could get up to. Hopefully, if she got too carried away, somebody could help regrow it for her like they had with Brian a few days ago after the mess in Florida.

"Though y'know, I think it'd be a better look for you than it was for Ororo. Honestly, what was she thinking with that?" Giving Yana a more than slightly skeptical look, Kitty shuddered dramatically.

"You know, if you keep saying stuff like that, I can just phase and run away. Not instilling a ton of confidence here!" Well, she was grinning a little when she said it, but yeah. Keeping that option open. "The only answer I've got for Ororo's sudden dive into mohawks and leather, though," she added, leaning back in the chair and trying to relax and not think of the possibility of three fourths of her hair or more ending up on the floor, is that that's what happens when you listen to Yukio."

And man, she'd totally flipped out on Storm when she'd done that, too. Yep, not big on change, never had been.

No mohawks, got it. Granted, acknowledging that necessitated an eyeroll, but Pryde should've expected as much, right? Honestly, the lack of trust here was amazing.

"Yeah, when you say it like that, I'm not sure it makes me feel all that much better," Kitty joked, resulting in a beleagered sigh that Illyana honestly felt the situation demanded. She'd promised, hadn't she? Nothing drastic. Jeez. Though honestly, she couldn't help but think a mohawk would've looked better on Kitty than it had on Ororo. Still awful, granted, but what had the Wakandan queen been thinking of, anyway?

Besides, changing the subject to reminiscing would hopefully distract Kitty from what she was doing with her hair, other than combing it out, which was now in progress. Which wasn't drastic. Much. Just...

Well, Kitty'd like it, she was sure. She'd just like it better if she didn't see it coming.

"You know, if you keep saying stuff like that, I can just phase and run away. Not instilling a ton of confidence here!"

"Well, neither are you!" she countered, grinning back at her friend's reflection. "Honestly, I'm starting to think you don't trust me." Which she should, obviously. It wasn't as if she'd ever steered her wrong about anything important.

...well, okay, maybe once or twice. But that was years ago. It really shouldn't be held against her.

"The only answer I've got for Ororo's sudden dive into mohawks and leather, though," Kitty added, leaning back and at least pretending to relax, "is that that's what happens when you listen to Yukio."

"Hey, Yukio was fun," Illyana pointed out as she reached over to grab her sketch book off the counter where she'd set it down and plopped it in Kitty's lap. There, uniform sketches, just as promised. Not a deliberate distraction at all, nooooo. "I always hoped she'd follow Logan home sometime and stick around; she'd have really livened up the place." Cocking her head a little, she looked Kitty's hair over, then nodded and got the scissors. A trim first, and then she'd see what else she could get away with. One way or another, though, Pryde was not leaving the room with the same hairstyle she'd been wearing for the past five years.

Now there was sighing. Very, very put upon sighing. Hey, she was just saying. Talking about mohawks when she was about to start hacking her hair off? Not that comforting.

If Yana kept talking about how crazy hairstyles of Ororo's past would look better on her, Kitty was sure she was entitled to keep the option of phase and run in the back of her head. Also, seriously? Baldness with a stripe of hair down the middle of her head? Not a good look for her. Definitely not a better look for her than Ororo.

Ororo was tall and gorgeous and could wear anything or do her hair any way and look good. Kitty knew she'd never, ever pull that off, even if she thought it'd be a good idea. Which, yeah, not okay with the baldness idea.

"Well, neither are you!" she countered, grinning back at her friend's reflection. "Honestly, I'm starting to think you don't trust me." Yep, and now her eyebrows were trying to fly off her head as she gave Yana a faux-dubious look in the mirror.

"You're talking about a hairstyle that involves a lot of baldness," the brunette pointed out with a widening grin of her own. "It's a little hard to get past that. Especially when it's my possible baldness we're talking about."

Or maybe Ororo's past mostly-baldness, maybe. Who knew what she was thinking when Storm decided to do that and Kitty remembered exactly how not happy she'd been, herself, about her friend's complete about face. No real explanation for the mohawks and leather - aside from some personal confidence crisis - was that that was what happened when you thought listening to Yukio was a great idea.

"Hey, Yukio was fun," Illyana pointed out because of course her best friend would think that. And she wasn't totally wrong, it was just that it probably wasn't a great idea to let the Japanese Ronin dress you. "I always hoped she'd follow Logan home sometime and stick around; she'd have really livened up the place."

Letting out a snerk of definite amusement at that idea, Kitty shook her head. "I think that's a nice way of saying 'turn the entire place upside down'." Which she would've. Or turned it into a mutant version of the whirling teacups ride at Disneyland. Round and round they'd all go until someone passed out. "The Professor would've loved that," she added, shaking her head in amusement as Yana picked up the sketchbook and plopped it down into her lap, looked over her hair and the reached for the scissors. Yep. Not worrying about that and baldness at all.

Nope. Not at all.

In an effort to make that true, she started flipping through the sketchbook and turned back to the matter of Yukio and Japan in general. "Y'know, I wonder how Mariko and Yukio are?" Kitty continued thoughtfully, "I haven't heard anything from them in years. I wonder if Mariko even knows what happened to Logan?"

Not that that was something she wanted to have to pass along, but she hoped they were both okay, at least.

Where was the trust? Honestly, disappear for a few years, and suddenly she was suspected of plotting to give inappropriate haircuts.

Which, okay, she wasn't about to just trim if she could get away with more than that. But come on. Mohawks fell under the category of something no one in their right mind would do, period. She was definitely that trustworthy, at least.

"You're talking about a hairstyle that involves a lot of baldness," the brunette pointed out with a widening grin of her own. "It's a little hard to get past that. Especially when it's my possible baldness we're talking about."

"And I promised a lack of baldness, didn't I?" Illyana observed, wrinkling her nose, but the conversation turned to Yukio's bad influence on hair decisions. Not something she could dispute, given Ororo's expedition into the realm of nightmarish hairstyles, but overall, she'd liked Yukio. It was really too bad that she'd never followed Logan home from Japan; things would've definitely been interesting.

"I think that's a nice way of saying 'turn the entire place upside down'. The Professor would've loved that," she added, shaking her head in amusement.

Illyana let out a soft snort at that. "Which proves it would've been an awesome idea," she observed. Granted, she knew Kitty'd been a much bigger fan of the Prof than she had, but as far as she was concerned, Xavier had shown his true colors when he'd had Xi'an possess her that time. Magneto'd been ten times the headmaster the Professor ever had.

Not that the New Mutants had really listened to him much either, but still. She had a whole lot more respect for him than not.

Kitty'd started flipping through her sketchbook, though, which meant it was time to get down to business. With the younger girl's hair wet down and combed out, Illyana set to work, nonchalantly trimming the bottom as promised, with occasional forays into layering. Probably not the best way to go about this, but definitely the least noticeable. Kitty didn't seem to be noticing, at least, and instead asked, "Y'know, I wonder how Mariko and Yukio are?" Kitty continued thoughtfully, "I haven't heard anything from them in years. I wonder if Mariko even knows what happened to Logan?"

"I don't know," Illyana admitted, wrinkling her nose as she considered the question. "Yukio does - I bumped into her...oh, two and a half years back, maybe? Bad port," she said by way of explanation, shaking her head. "We did a quick bounce out, and ended up in Madripoor." She grinned a little, and added, "You should've seen Jamie's reaction to the place. Priceless. Anywaaay, we didn't talk long, but she'd definitely heard about Logan." Her expression sobered and she shrugged as she trimmed off a bit more. "Sort of played like it wasn't a big deal, but you could tell it was."

She wasn't surprised, either. After all, it was Logan. She'd been shaken when she'd heard, too. If there'd been anyone she'd expected to make it all the way through this, it would've been him.

Suspicion? Yeah, there was definite cause for that. Especially since she actually did know Yana and because her talking about a haircut that involved lots of baldness while she was holding scissors just wasn't that comforting at all.

Especially when it was her possible baldness in question.

"And I promised a lack of baldness, didn't I?" Illyana observed, wrinkling her nose, which was true. Except, yeah, still knew Yana.

But okay, she could maybe sort of let go of the baldness worry. For now. Since she didn't think Yana would really make her bald. Probably.

Instead, she focused on Yukio and Storm and the insanity that would've likely resulted if Yukio had come back to the mansion with them. Fun was one way to put it. Complete and total chaos and turning of the entire place upside down would be another one. Oh yeah, Professor Xavier would've just loved that.

Not that he'd have bothered to hang around too long for it one way or another. Though she guessed he hadn't had a lot of choice about heading off with the Shi'ar and the Starjammers.

Yana let out a snort, which wasn't that surprising. "Which proves it would've been an awesome idea," her best friend pointed out. Yeah, she definitely still wasn't a fan of the Professor, was she? And with some good reasons.

Then, as she flipped through the sketchbook, her brain went back to thinking about Japan, and Logan and Mariko and Yukio. Things hadn't gone so great for that wedding and then everything had gone to hell at home and she hadn't heard from Mariko or Yukio in a long time. Years, actually. It made her wonder if Mariko even knew about Logan, or that any of them were still alive.

Expression fading toward serious, Kitty nodded. Yeah, that sounded like Yukio. "She and Logan were close a long time ago. If she knows, Mariko probably does, too. At least if she's been back to Japan, since." Probably she had. Yukio wasn't one to stay gone from Japan for too long. She traveled, didn't like staying in one place, but she always ended up back where she'd started.

Yana was snipping at her hair now, so Kitty told herself to sit still and not try to turn and look and see what she was doing. "When all this is over, I should probably try to get in touch with Mariko. Make sure she and Amiko are still okay. I think Logan would've wanted somebody to do that."

And she should've done it before now, but she'd kept putting it off. Since, yeah, how would she have ever been able to tell Mariko and Logan's foster daughter about what had happened to him if they didn't know yet? It wasn't something she'd thought she could face, but it was definitely time to stop thinking that way.

There was no easy way to talk about Logan, Illyana decided as she snipped at Kitty's hair. Granted, she'd never been anywhere near as close to the surly Canadian as her roommate, but there was just something...fundamentally wrong about him being gone. If anyone should have made it through all of this, it should've been him.

All she could really say for certain was that Yukio knew. Granted, she had tried to sound like it was no big deal, but...well, it was obvious even to her that it was.

Kitty nodded at that, unsuprisingly. "She and Logan were close a long time ago. If she knows, Mariko probably does, too. At least if she's been back to Japan, since."

"Which she probably has," Illyana acknowledged. She hadn't gotten the impression that the ronin had been setting up in Madripoor permanently, or even anything close to it. She wasn't entirely sure what she'd been planning, but it hadn't been sticking around.

"When all this is over, I should probably try to get in touch with Mariko. Make sure she and Amiko are still okay. I think Logan would've wanted somebody to do that."

"Probably," she admitted as she continued cutting, tilting her head a little to make sure everything was evening out. "You might want to check with Ororo and see if she's already been in touch first, though." If anyone would've thought to clue Mariko in, it seemed likely that it would've been her, and she'd been in a better position to do it than most. "If not and you want a lift to Japan, just let me know." After all, it wasn't like she had to stick around and butt in on what would probably be a really private conversation. She could always find something to do for the duration, or just come back and pick Kitty back up when she was done. Or...she smiled crookedly, then added, "Hell, if you want to tell her sooner, there's no reason we can't go back and tell her then. For all I know, you're the one who told Yukio."

It was as good an explanation as any, and the woman had definitely been vague about how she'd heard. At the time, she hadn't thought anything of it - it wasn't as if it had been any of her business. Now?

Well, it was one possibility, at least.

Yeah, that sounded like Yukio alright. The Ronin never really let it show when things bothered her. Too self-contained.

She and Logan had been close, though, in their own, strange way. His death would've hit the Japanese woman hard, even if she wouldn't let that be obvious.

If she knew, it was a safe enough bet that Mariko did, too. At least if Yukio had been back to Japan and Kitty couldn't imagine that she hadn't. Whatever she might say and however many places her whim might take her, Yukio always ended up back home eventually.

"Which she probably has," Illyana acknowledged which was pretty much what Kitty had been thinking herself (while trying not to think about her possible coming semi-baldness, nope not letting that go). When this was all over, she should get in touch with Mariko. Or at least try to. Make sure she and Amiko are still okay.

Logan would've wanted her to and she wanted to herself. She'd always really liked Mariko and Logan had loved her. Even though the wedding hadn't worked out, she knew that hadn't ever changed.

"Probably," Yana agreed as she kept snipping. So far, it didn't seem like she was losing all that much hair, at least. "You might want to check with Ororo and see if she's already been in touch first, though." Not a bad idea, since she might've at least been in touch with Yukio if nobody else. They'd been friends since Japan and it would be like Storm to try to keep contact, whatever was going on. "If not and you want a lift to Japan, just let me know." Trying not to turn her head too much, the brunette smiled gratefully at her friend. Yeah, also not a bad idea. "Hell, if you want to tell her sooner, there's no reason we can't go back and tell her then. For all I know, you're the one who told Yukio."

Oh man, time travel. More time travel. Noooo. No, no more time travel right now.

Making a slight face, Kitty started to shake her head, then thought better of it since there was still snipping happening. "Nooooo," she protested, "I've had plenty of time travel lately. I think I'll stick to the present for a while, if it's all the same to you," she told her friend with a wry smile. "If I keep zipping around the timestream, it'd be my luck I really would make it blow up or something."

Stranger things had happened, and then older her would probably track her down to yell at her again. Just because she could. Plus, yeah, she suspected Bobby would have a stroke or three if she did that.

"I might take you up on a trip over, though, if you're still game," she added, resisting the urge again to try to look around and see what her best friend was doing to her hair. "I'd like to see Mariko again. Heck, I'd like to see Japan again."

When they weren't being chased around by super-villains or crazy demon ninjas maybe. That'd be kinda novel, really.

If Kitty wanted to check on Mariko and Logan's adopted daughter (and Illyana suspected she did, all things considered), it was easy enough to fix. She could give her a lift to Japan, no problem. Her best friend shot her a grateful look when she said as much, but after a moment's consideration, Illyana took it a step further.

After all, there was no evidence to say that Kitty hadn't been the one to break the news. They could work that easily enough; it wasn't as if either of them had been anywhere near Japan in the past five years. A little teleporting, a little time travel, and voila! Instant news delivery service.

That, Kitty didn't look quite as pleased about, and made a face as she started to shake her head, checking the motion just before Illyana could nearly clip things an inch or so shorter than she'd meant to. "Nooooo," she protested, "I've had plenty of time travel lately. I think I'll stick to the present for a while, if it's all the same to you,"

Illyana let out a soft, amused snort, especially considering that they weren't in the present right now, but nodded. Big difference between adding a few hours to the day and skipping a couple of years back. Or at least, it seemed as if there should be; she was honestly never sure how that worked. Aside from the energy it took to get there, it all felt pretty much the same to her.

Kitty smiled wryly and added, "If I keep zipping around the timestream, it'd be my luck I really would make it blow up or something."

That earned the younger girl a roll of her eyes, then grinned a little. "Please. The timestream's just not that fragile. If it were going to have blown up, it would've done it ages ago." Instead, she'd been bouncing around it for days, picking things up from the past and sorting out the money situation. One more trip wouldn't make any difference to the timestream. To Kitty, though?

Yeah, if it was her, she probably wouldn't want to be popping in and out of it, either. Didn't matter to her either way - she just figured she'd make the offer.

"I might take you up on a trip over, though, if you're still game," she added, resisting the urge again to try to look around and see what her best friend was doing to her hair. "I'd like to see Mariko again. Heck, I'd like to see Japan again."

"Any time," she agreed, waving the hand not holding the scissors. "It's not like I'd exactly object to a road trip, y'know?" She wrinkled her nose a little, considering, then shrugged. "Or whatever you'd call one when there's not a road involved. We're seriously due for some time off, anyway."

And some Japanese food, she added mentally as she stepped around the chair and combed Kitty's bangs down, then snipped them off at what looked like it would be the proper length to go just below her eyebrows. A little tweak here and there, and that was done. Hmmm...not bad. Maybe just a little more...

"Almost done; I just need to even out the sides - must've missed a spot, they're not quite even," she said by way of explanation. "Just spin a little to the right, huh? The light's better over here."

Also, it would keep the other girl from peeking in the mirror while she "evened out" the sides and pulled out a little more of the curl. Honestly, this would look a lot better with a straightener, but that was one thing she hadn't had back at Muir. She'd have to keep her eyes open for one.

Not that she didn't appreciate the thought, or the offer, but yeah. Sticking to the present. Or, well, the near present, since they were a little off the actual present at the moment. Close enough, though, and she'd had enough major time travel for a little while.

Yana could snort all she wanted, but with her luck lately? They'd end up in Japan in the age of dinosaurs fifteen dimensions away or something. Of they could just blow up the timestream entirely, like people had kept not so subtly trying to hint she might. Or they might. Or whatever it was with all the people running around being time and dimensionally displaced and zipping back and forth the last week or so.

She'd never met the Saturnyne person they kept talking about in that other dimension, but she sounded a little too much like Emma for her taste. They already had an Emma, spares showing up to lecture her about breaking the Omniverse or whatever really weren't necessary.

Now Yana was rolling her eyes, of course. "Please. The timestream's just not that fragile. If it were going to have blown up, it would've done it ages ago." Yeah, she'd wondered about that a little, too, but then, like she said, with her luck lately? Why tempt fate?

Still, she liked the idea of a trip to Japan in general. Just to see Mariko and Amiko. Make sure they were okay. If Yana was still game for that. And she wouldn't mind seeing Japan again, either.

Grinning and reminding herself not to tilt her head or do anything that was going to result in a huge hunk of hair coming off her head where it wasn't supposed to, Kitty pointed out, "I think they just call that a trip."

She guessed maybe they were due for some time off, though. Or would be, if things went like they should tomorrow. Or today. Or whenever that was happening relative to when they were now. Not that everything would be suddenly fixed in that one day. It'd be a long time and a lot of work before that was true, she imagined, but it would be a little breathing room, maybe.

Breathing room, she could definitely use. They all could.

"Almost done; I just need to even out the sides - must've missed a spot, they're not quite even," she said by way of explanation and Kitty couldn't stop herself from trying to look around then, hair gap or no hair gap. What did she mean by 'not even' exactly? "Just spin a little to the right, huh? The light's better over here."

With a dramatic sigh, she spun to the right a little and gave Illyana a suspicious look. "You're doing that on purpose," she semi-accused, though she was kinda trying not to grin a little, too. "There better not be a mohawk happening on my head that you're trying to hide."

She didn't think there was, since she was pretty sure there was still too much hair for that, but just in case. Yana was hiding something, she could practically feel it.

Okay, not back in time, then. Given Kitty's recent misadventures with poorly timed rescues (and honestly, she really did want to know both how the other "her" had managed that, and how she'd managed to botch it up so badly), she couldn't say she was really surprised. Regardlessly, though, she wasn't adverse to a roadtrip to Japan, timed or otherwise.

Or...well, whatever you called a roadtrip where you bypassed the whole road concept, anyway.

Kitty grinned at that, of couse, and pointed out, "I think they just call that a trip."

That earned her former roommate a nose wrinkle, just on principle, but she didn't bother sparing the attention for a proper retort. Nope, hair to cut, and it was pretty easy to see that her friend wasn't exactly being lulled into a false sense of security by her observation that the sides weren't quite even. Which they weren't, but mostly, she wanted to get that last shoulder length layer evened out a little before Pryde pushed her out of the way to see what she was up to. Getting her to spin the chair a little was risky, but it was also the fastest way to finish it up.

Well, the second fastest, but she'd hold off on the "fastest" for the next step. She'd never been a fan of using magic to cut hair.

There came the suspicious look she'd been expecting, and she grinned unrepentently as Kitty accused, "You're doing that on purpose. There better not be a mohawk happening on my head that you're trying to hide."

"Oh, come on, I value my life," Illyana observed with a counter-grin, because yes, no matter how much her best friend tried to hide it, that grin was most definitely there. "I'm almost done, and then you can look." Just a few more clips, and then...she concentrated, knowing full well there was no way the younger girl would agree to this if she asked, but also no way she'd manage to get it all dried and straightened without her looking in the mirror. It was a totally safe spell, though - she'd used it hundreds of times - and honestly, it worked better than any straightening iron she'd ever owned. Just a few muttered words, and...

Not bad, if she said so herself. Definitely took Kitty out of the "Hey, I'm jailbait" age range without being drastic at all.

"There, take a look," she offered, spinning the chair back and then raising her hands in a gesture of surrender. "No extra charge for the quick dry service, though if you've got any more Nilla Wafers squirreled away somewhere I wouldn't say no to a box."

Actually...while she waited for Kitty's reaction, she took a second and dried her own hair. No reason to stall on it anymore - this way, they could move right on to the coloring.

Yana could wrinkle her nose all she wanted, it was still true. Kitty was pretty sure a road trip without the road was actually just a trip. Especially since teleport trip just sounded really odd.

Annnnd so did her hair? What exactly did her best friend mean there by 'not quite even'? How not even was it? Also, she' wasn't sure she was buying the turn this way, the lights better there thing, either. As far as she was concerned, the light was better over by the mirror, where she could see her hair and the unevenness or lack of hair in appropriate places or whatever was going on.

Her best friend was hiding something. Or trying to hide something, because she was definitely do that on purpose. She could tell.

The completely unrepentant grin Yana was shooting her was a pretty good clue, too. Arrrrgh! There better not be a mohawk on her head!

"Oh, come on, I value my life," Illyana observed with a counter-grin, and Kitty rolled her eyes and made a better effort to keep her own grin from totally breaking through. Even if she wasn't having much luck. "I'm almost done, and then you can look."

Okay, not even bothering not to grin this time as the brunette gave her friend a pointed look. Or tried to. It was really hard to look at someone pointedly when they were kinda behind you or off to the side and you were afraid to move your head. "You mean when it's too late to stop you?" she threw out in an effort to counter.

It was still Yana, she knew her, no matter how many years she'd been on Muir or in the Camp.

Wait, what was she doing? Or maybe more importantly saying? That sounded way too much like a spell and she definitely did not want a magical mohawk. At all.

"There, take a look," she offered, spinning the chair back and then raising her hands in a gesture of surrender just as Kitty was opening her mouth. "No extra charge for the quick dry service, though if you've got any more Nilla Wafers squirreled away somewhere I wouldn't say no to a box."

Turning curiously toward the mirror, Kitty's eyebrows went up and she reached up to finger the ends of her hair. Okay, that was definitely more than just a trip. Biting her lip uncertainly Kitty turned her head from side to side, taking a good look at it.

"That's more than just a trim," she pointed out, still not quite sure what to think but aiming a lopsided smile at Yana all the same. "And I'm starting to think you're obsessed with Nilla Wafers. If I'd known, I'd have brought a couple of cases."

Yeah, back to the hair and Kitty looked it over again, smile slowly evening out and spreading a little. It was definitely more than a trim, but it wasn't bad. Not bad at all.

"I think I like it," she added, smiling over at Yana before trying for something a little more suspicious, look-wise. "You didn't put some sort of spell on my hair, besides drying it, did you? Because if my hair turns into a pumpkin or something at midnight, we are having a really serious talk."

Yeah, sorta still grinning, darn it. That kinda ruined the whole effect.

Hair cut and dried, and now the only thing to worry about was her best friend's reaction. Because...okay, not exactly a trim, but c'mon. It was time for something a little different.

And it still wasn't drastic, so she hadn't lied. Much.

Kitty's eyebrows went up, and so did her fingers, playing with the ends of her hair as if to establish that no, it really wasn't there. The lip biting wasn't encouraging, but Yana was prepared to wait her out. After all, it really did look good on her.

"That's more than just a trim," she pointed out, still not quite sure what to think but aiming a lopsided smile at Yana all the same. "And I'm starting to think you're obsessed with Nilla Wafers. If I'd known, I'd have brought a couple of cases."

"Ask other me to send them?" she joked, then grinned mischievously. "And no, it's not exactly a trim. But it's also neither a mohawk nor drastic. Deal."

Kitty tuned back to the mirror, and her skeptical look gradually morphed it's way into a smile. "I think I like it," she decided finally, then smiled over at her for a moment before making every effort to look suspicious. "You didn't put some sort of spell on my hair, besides drying it, did you? Because if my hair turns into a pumpkin or something at midnight, we are having a really serious talk."

"If your hair turns into a pumpkin, you're probably going to have much bigger problems than finding me to chew me out," Illyana observed, then shook her head and grinned. "And no, I just dried it. The worst that'll happen is you might need to use a little extra conditioner the next couple of washes; sometimes it dries a little too well. I think it looks good, though," she said, cocking her head a little and eyeing it critically. "Should work well with the blue highlights, if you're still up for that?"

If not - well, that was okay too. So long as Kitty still helped her do hers. She hated doing the back herself.

Okay, that was not a trim. That was definitely way more than a trim.

It also wasn't a mohawk and there were no bald patches, so that was in the category of good at least. Not so good, Yana had apparently developed some crazed obsession with Nilla Wafers in her absence. Obviously, she should've brought at least a couple of cases of those back from the other universe Costco.

"Ask other me to send them?" she joked, then grinned mischievously. "And no, it's not exactly a trim. But it's also neither a mohawk nor drastic. Deal." Oh yeah, easy for her to say when it wasn't her hair. Also, they might have different definitions of drastic.

She made a futile attempt to glare at her best friend that came out more as a wryly amused smile. Yeah, okay, once she got over the initial shock, maybe it wasn't that bad. In fact, as she looked it over from various angles in the mirror, Kitty decided it wasn't really bad at all.

Different, definitely, but she was starting to kinda like it. So, okay, as long as Yana hadn't put some sort of weird spell on it, instead of just using that to dry it, she was good. If her hair turned to a pumpkin at midnight or something, though, not so much.

"If your hair turns into a pumpkin, you're probably going to have much bigger problems than finding me to chew me out," Illyana observed, which might be true, but she'd still be hunting her down. Yana should know that, too. Except she probably didn't, since she was shaking her head and grinning. "And no, I just dried it. The worst that'll happen is you might need to use a little extra conditioner the next couple of washes; sometimes it dries a little too well. I think it looks good, though," she said, cocking her head a little and eying it critically. "Should work well with the blue highlights, if you're still up for that?"

Taking another look in the mirror, to make sure she was still putting it in the category of liking, Kitty nodded slowly, then turned back to Yana with a smile. "Sure, why not?" she answered with a shrug. "Might as well go all out if we're going to do it."

And she could afford to say that, since she wasn't partially bald. Hopefully Bobby wouldn't be too freaked out by the new look.

[The End, and cont'd for Kitty at the Triskelion, I believe, and Yana at Fort Knox]
