Giving new meaning to "Freeze!" since 2007

A whole bunch of stuff that was more fun to deal with. He could drink to that without any qualms whatsoever. Or rather, he could once he had more wine in his glass. Refilling Kit's for good measure, he asked curiously just what kind of stuff she had in mind? As long as they were both apparently thinking of the future for the first time in years, getting some idea of what they might have to look forward to didn't sound half bad. Kitty smiled and took a drink as she considered that. "Like the stuff Reed wants to do. I really miss poking around in a lab. It felt good to do that again, and to actually come out with something useful that helped somebody else." Bobby smiled encouragingly, reaching over to give her hand a squeeze. She'd definitely done that - Veil had most definitely seemed thrilled by her new uniform and he lack of unintentional nudity. "Being...normal again," Kitty added, pausing to take another sip from her cup and smiling over at him. "Not that I was ever all that normal to start with, but you know. More normal than stuff has been for years. I miss that, too." He nodded, and took another drink from his glass. Normal. He wasn't entirely sure he'd recognize "normal" if he saw it, it'd been so long. Still, he was more than willing to give it a shot. He watched, though, as Kitty looked wistful and shrugged. "Being able to go out in public without having to worry about Sentinels. Or being attacked by soldiers. Heck, just being able to go get a burger and a coke and some fries without having to worry about getting shot at. It'll be nice to be a person again." He squeezed her hand again and nodded, smiling crookedly. He knew what she meant; he'd never really bought into it himself - or at least, not since the mob when he'd frozen Beasley that time. Then, he'd sort of doubted it himself, but now? While he wasn't fond of the idea that in the eyes of the public, they weren't people, he knew better. He wasn't always sure Kit did. "What about you," she asked curiously, meeting his eyes. "What kind of stuff for you?" "Me?" He paused, pretending to give it some serious consideration. "Welllll...I think I want my CPA license," he began seriously, then grinned. "Not sure I'll ever use it, but I want to have to fill out the damn paperwork and turn it in, and then have them lose it and tell me I have to resubmit and repay the fee I paid already. Just for the normal factor." Grinning broader, he added, "And then? I want them to build a new Dominos, just so I can call and give their manager all kinds of shit and demand my free pizza, because five years? Is definitely not inside their thirty minutes or less window for delivery." He wanted that pizza he'd ordered ten minutes before the Sentinel attack, damn it. Or any pizza, he amended mentally as he nodded with feigned seriousness and downed the rest of his glass. He'd missed out on the pizza the other night. Dominos sounded really good about now. |

God, so many things she was looking forward to if this all worked. Right now, they all still seemed a little like pipe dreams, and it was hard to even name them all. Some of them, though, yeah. She could definitely name some of them. The foundation that Reed wanted to start. That was one. This morning, in the lab with Nezh working on Veil's uniform, she'd realized just how much she'd missed that kinda thing. It had felt good. Better than fighting. She was so tired of fighting. She wanted to do things that did good some other, better way. If Bobby was taking them up on the offer for the FF, then they'd be in the same place, too, and that was a definite bonus. As much as she'd like to go back to Wakanda in some ways, she didn't think Bobby would be happy there. Too far away and too different from everything he knew. He smiled, though, and reached over to give her hand a squeeze and she smiled back. Mostly, she just looked forward to being normal again. Or what passed for it. More normal than this had all been the last five years. Looked forward to being able to go out in public without worrying about Sentinels, or soldiers. Just being able to go get a burger and coke without risking her life in the process. Being a person again. That's what she really looked forward to. Bobby nodded during all that rambling, taking another drink of his wine and squeezing her hand again. Maybe it was silly, but yeah. Those were some of the things she was really looking forward to and so she had to wonder what some of his were. She'd answered, so it was only fair for him to, too. "Me?" He paused, pretending to give it some serious consideration and she wrinkled her nose at him. "I don't see anybody else in here," Kitty pointed out with a serious nod of her own. Come on, he didn't think he wasn't gonna have to spill, too, did he? "Welllll...I think I want my CPA license," he began seriously, then grinned as she blinked at him. Okay. Definitely not what she'd have expected. Is definitely not inside their thirty minutes or less window for delivery." Laughing, Kitty rolled her eyes at him and took another sip from her cup, lifting an eyebrow at him. "That's cheating, and definitely not a real answer." And therefore didn't count. At all. He was gonna have to do better. "And now I want pizza," she told him with a mock forlorn sigh. "It was really evil to bring up pizza when I can't have any." Which he had to know. She'd just add that to the hamburger and coke she was talking about earlier. Pepperoni pizza with onions and mushrooms. She really, really wanted some of that. |

Kit had quite a list, and Bobby was relieved to hear that she really was looking forward to Reed's science think tank. He would have picked up and moved to Wakanda if she'd really wanted to, but...well, he had to admit he was just as glad not to. It was a nice place to visit, but screwed up as it was, the U.S. was home. The rest of her list related to things that had been put on hold for far too long, things he'd once taken for granted. Normal things, like burgers and fries and being able to go out in public without the threat of Sentinels hunting for them. The very right to exist, which had been questionable at best for years. The acknowledgement that they were people, which he'd never actually doubted, but he also knew had hit Kitty much harder. But then, he'd never lived through the Camps, either. She turned the question around on him, though, asking what he was looking forward to. Which, of course, needed to be preface with a clarification that she was asking him, as much to give him time to consider the question as anything. "I don't see anybody else in here," she pointed out, nodding seriously, so he gave it some thought. The easiest things to think of were the normal ones. He wanted to finish up his long-neglected and ultimately abandoned Accounting degree, and get his CPA license, though his lips twitched a little at Kit's doubtful look. Partially just for the dubious pleasure of dealing with all the stupid bureaucracy, because...well, because he could, he supposed. Because pass or fail the CPA exam, they'd still have to let him take it. Partially, he was willing to admit, just because his father would've liked him to finish college. He'd made a promise about that, once. He wanted to actually keep it, even if his dad wasn't around to know one way or the other. Beyond that? He wanted that pizza he'd ordered ten minutes before life had gone to hell. Or any pizza, though there'd be something extremely satisfying about forcing Domino's to deliver that one. Kitty laughed at that, and even if it was accompanied by a roll of her eyes, it was still good to hear. "That's cheating, and definitely not a real answer." she pointed out as she took another drink. Bobby just shrugged and grinned over at her. She hadn't insisted on serious answers, had she? She let out a disconsolate sigh, though, and continued with "And now I want pizza. It was really evil to bring up pizza when I can't have any." "You had pizza the other day," he pointed out, then grinned as he took another drink. "Though you could always wake Yana up and get her to make another run?" Because...yeah, actually, pizza did sound really good, and unlike some people, he hadn't gotten any for breakfast before heading off to Wakanda. Letting out a sigh (because really, he didn't figure the prospect of pizza was in his immediate future), he shrugged and leaned back on one hand. "Seriously, though - I don't know. The Fantastic Four thing sounds pretty good - I mean, someone has to keep Flamehead in line, and if I'm not doing it, it'll all fall on Sue. Sounds pretty unfair to her. But beyond that?" He shrugged again, fighting an urge to grin, and said, "I'm thinking, sometime after things settle down? Making things official doesn't sound like a bad plan, y'know? Try out the whole white picket fence and 2.5 kids and all." He waited a second for that to sink in, then casually added, "I dunno, you think Johnny will say yes? I mean, we've been together for years, it seems like the next logical step, right?" Grinning, he took another drink and waited for that to sink in as well. This should be fun. Even if she did kill him, it might actually be worth it. |

Oh no, uh-uh. That was cheating. Pizza and CPA insanity were not actual answers and were, in fact, an attempt to cheat. A failed attempt if she had any say in the matter. Especially now that he'd made her want pizza. She really missed Domino's and Pizza Hut. "You had pizza the other day," he pointed out as she wrinkled her nose at him. It had only been a little pizza, that didn't count. Bobby was grinning, though, as he took another drink from his cup. "Though you could always wake Yana up and get her to make another run?" For about half a second, that was actually tempting, but then she shook her head. "She'd probably kill me, or at least yell at me for waking her up this time of night for pizza." Or morning. It was probably technically morning, wasn't it? Bobby let out a sigh, possibly over the non-appearance of pizza now that he'd made them both want some. Then he shrugged and leaned back, bracing himself on one hand. Try out the whole white picket fence and 2.5 kids and all." Slowly, though she tried to stop it, her smile sort of faded away and her brows drew together. Was he-? There was an awkward, nervous feeling in the middle of her stomach as Kitty tried - really really tried, and fast - come up with something to say. Maybe stop him, because she loved him but she wasn't ready for that and it sounded like that might be what he was heading toward. But she didn't wanna hurt his feelings- "I-" Kitty started, had no idea what she was about to say and went back to scrambling for words. Usable words! She didn't find any, though, before Bobby added casually, "I dunno, you think Johnny will say yes? I mean, we've been together for years, it seems like the next logical step, right?" Then she was just kinda sitting there with her mouth open, and Bobby was grinning, and she blinked at him and - "Ack!" Kitty exclaimed, screwing her face up in an indignant mock scowl before taking a - fairly gentle - swat at him. Then she tried to glare at him, but didn't quite manage that. Instead, the glare sort of morphed to a narrow-eyed look and a grin she tried to suppress. "Well, he does seem to really like you," she agreed, making an attempt at a serious nod and still trying not to grin, "So I think he might. I'll throw the shower," the brunette offered, not able to do anything about the grin this time, or the mischievous glint in her eyes. "Do I get to bring a date?" Well, he'd started it, so it was only fair to join in, right? They'd make a lovely couple. |

Pizza did sound good, and unlike Kit, he hadn't gotten any the morning they'd gone to Wakanda, and there'd been an unfortunate shortage of pizza in the African nation. Still, there was a simple solution, even though he sort of doubted she'd pounce on it. She could always go wake up Illyana and talk her into another pizza run. For a moment, he could all but see the wheels spinning in her mind as she considered the idea, but she apparently thought better of it and shook her head. "She'd probably kill me, or at least yell at me for waking her up this time of night for pizza." Bobby hmmphed a little. "Well, it's not like she couldn't have some," he pointed out. Which, honestly, seemed more than fair to him, considering that it wasn't like he was asking her to pay or it. Still, it didn't sound as if pizza was forthcoming, so he turned his attention back to Kit's earlier question and the "cheating " answers he'd given. What was he looking forward to? The Fantastic Four was the easy answer, and was even true. Oh, he had a few reservations; they were awfully high profile, something he definitely wasn't used to. But Johnny was there, and they'd stuck through it together this far. It'd be weird for the guy not to be around now. Which gave him an idea... He felt a pang as he watched the smile fade from Kitty's face when he mentioned marriage, though not like he would have had it happened two years earlier. Much though he'd like to ask her a similar question sometime in the future, now wasn't the time. He just hoped that when he finally did, she'd look a whole lot happier about it. For right now, though? As a joke, her reaction was pretty much perfect. He and Johnny had been together a long time. It'd be the next logical step. Kitty's mouth fell open, and she stared at him for a long moment, blinking, before proclaiming, "Ack!" and swatting at his arm. "Hey, the wine!" he protested, making sure his didn't spill as he laughed, both at his own joke and at the scowl and glare she was trying (unsuccessfully) to shoot in his direction. Perfect execution, if he said so himself. Finally, she gave up on glaring and switched to a narrow eyed look he knew meant she was plotting evilness. "Well, he does seem to really like you," she agreed, making an attempt at a serious nod and still trying not to grin, "So I think he might. I'll throw the shower," she offered, now giving up and grinning. "Do I get to bring a date?" "Well, I was counting on you to be the maid of honor," he said, sighing dramatically as he took another sip from his glass, his eyes glinting mischievously. "But I suppose you could bring a date along. Did you have someone in mind? Because I'm pretty sure I saw Cain Marko eyeing you while we were on the dance floor." Or, well, past her, actually, as if he'd been looking for someone. But whatever, it'd been in the right general direction. |

Yeah, she wasn't sure even the offer of sharing the pizza she was waking Yana up in the middle of the night to go theoretically fetch for her would keep her best friend from killing her. Even pepperoni and mushrooms only went so far where warding off death from sleep interruption was concerned. Plus, that wasn't exactly a real answer and it was kind of cheating. Which she called him on. Only the answer she did get, well, it wasn't the one she exactly expected. Or was ready for, which Kitty knew she did a crappy job of hiding, even though she tried. It wasn't that she didn't love Bobby, because she did. But, well, she was still dealing with a lot. They both were. Even though she didn't want to hurt his feelings, that wasn't something she was ready for. Two years missed, she was still eighteen, not twenty and, well, yeah. It boiled down to being... Bobby proposing to Johnny? Oh man. Okay, that was just evil. Bobby was definitely evil. He'd always been a little evil, but apparently in the last couple of years, he'd added on some extra. So that required some blinking and staring and then some 'Ack'-ing and swatting. "Hey, the wine!" he protested, managing to save that but he was laughing now, which required some attempts at glaring that didn't quite come out as menacing as she'd meant them to. The scowl, either, so Kitty settled for narrowing her eyes at him. Okay, fine. If that's how he wanted it. Johnny did seem to like him a lot, so sure. He'd probably say yes. She'd even offer to throw the bridal shower, provided she got to bring a date to the wedding. By the end of that, she was grinning but she couldn't help that, either. Man, she was seriously gonna get him for that. "Well, I was counting on you to be the maid of honor," he said, sighing dramatically as he took another sip from his glass, his eyes glinting mischievously. "But I suppose you could bring a date along. Did you have someone in mind? Because I'm pretty sure I saw Cain Marko eying you while we were on the dance floor." It was a good thing she hadn't quite managed to get her cup to her lips again, or she'd have choked to death. See! Evil! "Ewwww, no! He's crazy and at least as old as the Professor." And running around with other crazy people with no pants, which she was already afraid was a sight she'd never get out of her head, no matter how much wine she had. "Why can't I be maid of honor and have a date?" she asked curiously, managing to take a drink from her cup without spewing it all over. "And if I'm the maid of honor, does that mean you're the bride? Because I'm not sure white's really your color." |

The whole glaring things was really intimidating. Really. Except, y'know, that it wasn't, because the look on her face... Definitely worth the swat, and likely would have been worth spilled wine as well, though he wasn't particularly keen on braving the halls again tonight to get another bottle. Fortunately, he managed to avoid that, and she gave up on narrow-eyed glaring and jumped into the spirit of things, asking whether or not she could bring a date to the wedding. Again fortunately, thanks to the Juggernaut's attempts to look through them on the dance floor, he even had a comeback for that. "Ewwww, no! He's crazy and at least as old as the Professor." she countered, and he laughed and took another sip from his cup. He couldn't argue either of those, which was why he'd suggested the Angry Guy (and honestly, had he picked that name himself? He'd always sort of wanted to ask that). "Why can't I be maid of honor and have a date?" she asked curiously, managing to take a drink from her cup without spewing it all over. "And if I'm the maid of honor, does that mean you're the bride? Because I'm not sure white's really your color." "Well, I was figuring you were going to have your hands full with maid of honor stuff, considering we're talking about me and Johnny planning a wedding. But hey, if you think you can handle it, feel free," he replied with a grin and a wave of his hand, then paused to consider the rest. After a moment, he wrinkled his nose and shook his head. "I'm not sure white's my color either," he admitted. "Though I look pretty stupid in a tux, too, so I'm pretty sure Johnny wouldn't agree on wearing the dress. Maybe I should just forget the whole thing for now? Wait a couple years and ask someone else?" He took a sip from his glass casually, watching her reaction. Because...well, she'd asked what he wanted from the future. And while now might not be a good time for either of them? Eventually, if they made it that far, he did want that. He was just kind of hoping she might, too. |

Uggh, that was just disturbing. There was no way she was taking Cain Marko anywhere as a date. Bobby could laugh if he wanted, but she bet he wouldn't be laughing if she'd told him he should date Juggernaut! Plus, it didn't really seem fair that she couldn't be maid of honor and bring a date, too. Just not that date. Kitty couldn't figure out any reason she couldn't do both. It also made her wonder about something else. If she was maid of honor, did that mean Bobby was the bride? Wasn't that usually how that worked? It seemed like it, but she was a little dubious. White wasn't really Bobby's color, not to mention all the lace and taffeta and who knows what else. Yeah, not really Bobby. Ali maybe, if it was all a really bright color. "Well, I was figuring you were going to have your hands full with maid of honor stuff, considering we're talking about me and Johnny planning a wedding. But hey, if you think you can handle it, feel free," he replied with a grin and a wave of his hand and she rolled her eyes. Even if he maybe had a point about him and Johnny and the probably disaster any wedding planning there would be. Maybe they could get Johnny to wear the dress? It might not even be the first time that'd happened. Then he was wrinkling his nose at her and shaking his head. "I'm not sure white's my color either," he admitted. "Though I look pretty stupid in a tux, too, so I'm pretty sure Johnny wouldn't agree on wearing the dress. Maybe I should just forget the whole thing for now? Wait a couple years and ask someone else?" That made her feel a little self-conscious again and Kitty shifted awkwardly, then tried to push that aside as she frowned thoughtfully. "Maybe," she agreed as she pondered that idea, then grinned a little. "I'm not sure you'd have any more luck with Rogue or Nemesis, though." Okay, not what he meant and she got that and the brunette's expression got a little more serious, and she felt a little uncomfortable again. Not that she didn't love Bobby, she really did and they'd been together for a long time and, well, she'd always figured that'd probably happen someday. Right now, though, she felt a little like she was smothering under all the other stuff that needed dealing with. Biting her lip, she peered over at him again for a second, then took another sip from her cup. "A couple of years, though, sounds like plenty of time for things to get back on their feet," she told him with a little bit of a smile, "So yeah, maybe try then?" |

He had to admit, there might be a few flaws in his plan for a big white wedding with Johnny. Even without factoring in Kitty's lack of a date (and the likelihood that she wouldn't have time to spend with one, considering that as maid of honor she'd be responsible for singlehandedly saving the wedding from whatever disaster resulted from him and Johnny having planned it) there was the very definite problem of him not really having either the figure or the coloring to make a decent bride. Or groom, for that matter, consider he looked like an idiot in a tux. He might be better off forgetting the whole thing, at least for now. Wait a couple of years, and ask someone else? He took a sip from his glass, fighting an urge to tell her that he'd been kidding as she shifted awkwardly, obviously uncomfortable. Shit. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything? Everything had been going really well since they'd gotten back from Times Square, barring the run-in with the psycho Snake. But she'd wanted a serious answer, and...well, that was part of his. Just maybe a part he shouldn't have mentioned, just now. After a moment, though, Kit stopped looking as if she'd been put on the spot, and frowned as if she were thinking something over. "Maybe," she agreed as she pondered that idea, then grinned a little. "I'm not sure you'd have any more luck with Rogue or Nemesis, though." "Mmm, good point," he acknowledged as he returned her grin with one that was only slightly forced, resolving to just let the subject drop. Before he could come up with something to change it to, though, her grin faded, and the overall feel of awkward returned full force as she took a sip from her cup. Maybe not just poor timing, then? Bobby's eyes dropped down to his own glass as he wondered just how to get out of this. A joke about Nemesis or Rogue, maybe, some comment about how Johnny'd be jealous? There had to be something, because honestly, if she just wasn't seeing that in their future at all... "A couple of years, though, sounds like plenty of time for things to get back on their feet," she said finally, and when he looked back up, it was to see her smiling just a little. "So yeah, maybe try then?" He smiled back, more than a little relieved, and nodded. A couple of years - yeah, he could do that. It wasn't quite the answer he'd hoped for two years earlier, but as she'd pointed out back in Wakanda, it was time to start acknowledging what was, not what might have been. This sounded like a pretty good place to start. Holding up his glass he smiled, reaching over to brush his fingers over her hand. "To getting back on our feet, then?" he suggested for their next toast. "And whatever comes after?" After all, it might not have been a yes, but it definitely wasn't a no, either. That, too, seemed like a good place to start. |

Well, yeah, sure. He could wait a couple of years and try again. But really, she wasn't sure Bobby would have any more luck then with Rogue or Nemesis if he did. Yeah, she knew what he was fishing at, but Kitty needed a second or two to get past the awkward feeling and, well, stuff to manage something to actually say. That worked pretty well for that. Mostly. "Mmm, good point," he acknowledged with a grin that looked mostly normal, but maybe wasn't quite totally normal. It was hard to tell, since it could just be her own awkward stuffing itself into the middle of everything. She loved him and it wasn't like she hadn't thought about that, too, now and then. Had kinda assumed it would come up eventually, if they both made it through all this. It was just that she hadn't been sure they'd ever make it through all this. And she hadn't expected it to be now, when...well, she was kind of a mess. Even more so than she'd been before, maybe. It wasn't something she was ready for, Kitty knew, as she stalled just a little more by pausing to take a sip from her glass. Not ready for it now, but she didn't want to hurt his feelings and she knew it probably would. Knew she was right when she looked up to see his eyes drop down to his glass. Maybe... Well, if he could wait a couple of years, give her, and him, and everything else a little time to get back on it's feet. That might be plenty of time. Maybe he could try then? Just...not now, when she felt like she was already smothering sometimes under all the stuff that needed dealing with. Hated it being like that. Hated being awkward and self-conscious and uncomfortable, but couldn't really do anything about it. She was still only eighteen. There hadn't been any two years passing for her. She just needed some time to catch up. It was a huge relief when he smiled back, looking relieved himself as he nodded. Maybe it wasn't how things might've worked if they'd both had those two years, but there wasn't anything at all they could do to change that. All they could do was go forward, since there wasn't any way to go back. Bobby held his glass up and she smiled back as his fingers brushed over hers. "To getting back on our feet, then?" he suggested for their next toast. "And whatever comes after?" Reaching over with her free hand, she slipped it into his and gave him a gentle squeeze as she nodded. "Yeah, I like the sound of that. That's a great toast." Tapping her cup lightly against his, she took another drink, then frowned down at it. "I think my cup has a hole in it. It's empty again." And she really didn't remember drinking all of it, but they still had at least part of the first bottle left and a whole other one. So, no big deal. There was still plenty. |

It wasn't what he'd imagined, two years ago. Not a proposal, not an acceptance. There was no ring, no excitement, nothing that he'd been hoping for then. Just a lot of awkwardness. A lot of wondering whether he'd said too much, whether he should have kept this to himself like he was so many other things he was afraid to talk about. And then she smiled, and agreed that two years from now? It might be something she'd want to hear him ask. No, it wasn't what he'd hoped for two years ago, maybe wasn't even the reaction he'd have preferred to have gotten now. But maybe it was just about right. It was a big step, and really, there wasn't any reason to rush. It wasn't as if either of them was going anywhere. And maybe, that's what he'd really needed to know, anyway. And so, a toast. To getting their acts together, and whatever might come after. She slipped her hand into his and gave it a squeeze, then nodded. "Yeah, I like the sound of that. That's a great toast." He smiled and clinked his glass against hers, then took a drink, laughing softly at the expression on her face as she frowned into her now empty cup. "I think my cup has a hole in it. It's empty again." Bobby raised his eyebrows, then made a show of looking around at the bed for evidence of spilled wine. "Mmmm, must be a wine-sucking black hole around, then," he observed, trying not to grin. "I've heard a lot about SHIELD engineering, but never that they'd developed that. We should probably test it out and see if we can figure out where, huh?" Reaching over for the bottle, he refilled her cup, then his own, and set the bottle back down on the nightstand. "So, Veil stopped by at the party to show off her new uniform," he said, smiling over at her. "You guys did a nice job. I should get you guys to look mine over; I'm never convinced that Nemesis didn't rig it to suddenly stop coming back with me." Not that it would be a crisis if it didn't, so long as he stayed in ice form. But regardless, it seemed like something the mad scientist would do. |

Two years. Yeah, that didn't sound so bad at all. Time to get past all this. Do some rebuilding. The world. Herself. That all sounded pretty good, actually. Maybe she hadn't really thought they'd ever see it. That they'd ever get this far. But it was a nice thing to think about. All of it. An actual future she could look forward to. So yeah, it was a good thing to toast to, too, and she gave Bobby's hand a squeeze, then bumped her cup lightly against his. And took a drink. Not a big one, though, because for some reason her cup had managed to get empty again. Hadn't he just filled them up? Maybe hers had a hole in it or something? Bobby cocked an eyebrow and looked around like he expected to find a wine spill somewhere and Kitty rolled her eyes at him playfully. "Mmmm, must be a wine-sucking black hole around, then," he observed, trying not to grin. "I've heard a lot about SHIELD engineering, but never that they'd developed that. We should probably test it out and see if we can figure out where, huh?" Kitty nodded solemnly, trying and probably failing to look serious. "Oh yeah. SHIELD engineered, wine stealing black holes. Those are terrible. We should definitely try to find it." Then she grinned and shook her head as he reached over for the wine bottle and refilled her cup and his. "You're silly, you know that?" She was pretty sure he did, but she felt the need to point it out all the same. Just in case. "So, Veil stopped by at the party to show off her new uniform," he said, smiling over at her as she took a sip from her cup and nodded. Yeah, she'd noticed that. Or that she'd stopped by with Julian and Brian to talk to him, anyway. "You guys did a nice job. I should get you guys to look mine over; I'm never convinced that Nemesis didn't rig it to suddenly stop coming back with me." Letting out a laugh that almost involved spewing the wine she was trying to swallow, Kitty grinned over at him. "It wouldn't surprise me, being Nemesis and all." He was kinda evil, no matter what side he happened to be working on. She'd always known that. Plus, you know, former Nazi and stuff. "We could definitely look at it, though, if you want. Working on hers was a lot of fun," Kitty added with a happy sigh and a smile. First time she'd got to really poke around in a lab and do anything useful in a while. "Nezh is really smart, and he knows Veil and her powers, so that helped a lot. And he'd already talked to Reed and Nemesis and Forge by the time I got there. I forgot how much fun it was just doing science stuff and not having to worry about anything else." And having a really good lab to work in. They'd done the best they could, or Nemesis had, but it was hard to have a good lab when you barely had any resources and kept changing headquarters at the last minute. |

Wine sucking black holes. Obviously, the only viable explanation, considering the definitive lack of wine stains on the bed and the emptiness of Kit's cup. He pointed that out, trying to look serious as he refilled her glass, then his own. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the speed at which they were reducing the level of the wine bottle. Nope. Black holes it was. "Oh yeah. SHIELD engineered, wine stealing black holes. Those are terrible. We should definitely try to find it." "Oh yeah, definitely," he agreed, the grin he'd been trying to hold back slipping through a little. "You never know with those. They might grow or something, and then where would we be?" Possibly, he mused, at the bottom of some wine filled hole, though he was pretty sure black holes didn't actually have bottoms. Kit was grinning, though, and shaking her head, which was nice to see and one more reason why falling into a black hole would be a bad plan. "You're silly, you know that?" "What, me?" he mock-protested, holding his hand to his chest as if struck through the heart. "Jeez. Offer up a perfectly good, scientific explanation for..." he paused, eyebrows furrowing, then shook his head. "I forget what I was offering it up for, but I'm sure it wasn't silly." He sniffed in her general direction, then grinned. Because yeah, okay. Silly. He was pretty sure she wouldn't have him any other way. On a more serious note, though, he mentioned that Veil had stopped over and shown off her new uniform. Which was pretty impressive, actually - it'd taken Nemesis way longer than that to come up with something that wouldn't disappear when he melted. While that might have partially been intentional on the crazy doctor's fault, she and Nezh had still done great work. He really should have them look his over; he still wasn't convinced that one of these days, he wasn't going to come back without it. Not a big deal, normally. But you never knew. Kitty let out a laugh that nearly resulted in the wine coming out as well, then grinned over at him. "It wouldn't surprise me, being Nemesis and all." He nodded, because - well, that summed it up, really. It was Nemesis, and he was, well, himself. "We could definitely look at it, though, if you want. Working on hers was a lot of fun," Kitty added with a happy sigh and a smile that was good to see. "Nezh is really smart, and he knows Veil and her powers, so that helped a lot. And he'd already talked to Reed and Nemesis and Forge by the time I got there. I forgot how much fun it was just doing science stuff and not having to worry about anything else." "You should have fun with Reed's think tank, then," he observed, stroking his fingers over the back of her hand once again, then cocked his head and smiled. "Y'know, he'd probably be the guy to talk about if you wanted to pick up some classes at ESU eventually, too? I mean, not that you wouldn't learn tons from Reed," probably more than she would in a classroom, actually, "but I know you mentioned once wanting to go back to university. No reason you couldn't, if you still do." Granted, she'd said she wanted to go back to the University in Wakanda, but that didn't mean it wasn't an option, here. Or there, for that matter, if she changed her mind later. He'd get used to the place. Just possibly not the swim gear. |

Bobby was silly. Very , very silly. "What, me?" he mock-protested, holding his hand to his chest as if struck through the heart. "Jeez. Offer up a perfectly good, scientific explanation for..." he paused, eyebrows furrowing, then shook his head. "I forget what I was offering it up for, but I'm sure it wasn't silly." Letting out a little snerk of laughter, she shook her head, trying to keep her expression mostly serious. "Wine eating black hole," she reminded him, then couldn't help but grin, "Not silly at all. Nope. Not even a little." He could sniff all he wanted, it was still silly, but the grin was nice. And she didn't mind silly. She kinda liked it, really. Then he was asking about Veil's new uniform and the stuff she and Nezh had done that morning. And if they might take a look at his uniform, in case Nemesis had done something to it so that one day it wouldn't follow him back when he melted. Which would be interesting, to say the least. Not that anybody would probably be able to tell, since he mostly stayed ice anyway. But, yeah. Nemesis. You never really knew. They could definitely take a look, though. Working on Veil's had been awesome and she couldn't help but smile at that, and sigh a little. It was definitely a happy smile. Nezhno was smart and awesome to work with and he'd practically done most of the work before she even got there. How had she forgot how much fun doing stuff like that could be. Especially getting to do it when she wasn't in a huge rush because they needed it yesterday and there wasn't anything more immediate to worry about. Just doing something because it would help someone else and because they wanted to. Maybe that sounded silly, and not very big picture-y, but she had a feeling Bobby would understand. "You should have fun with Reed's think tank, then," he observed, stroking his fingers over the back of her hand once again, then cocked his head and smiled as she shivered just a little. That tickled, but it was nice and she turned her hand over to curl around his. "Y'know, he'd probably be the guy to talk about if you wanted to pick up some classes at ESU eventually, too? I mean, not that you wouldn't learn tons from Reed," probably more than she would in a classroom, actually, "but I know you mentioned once wanting to go back to university. No reason you couldn't, if you still do." Considering that for a few seconds, she nodded, taking another sip from her newly refilled cup. "Yeah, I might think about that. It's not Wakanda," she allowed, but then what was? There wasn't anywhere aside from maybe MIT she could work at same level, "but it's a good school all the same. Maybe I could take a few classes here and there, anyway." And that would be fun, too. Like the best of both worlds if she could still work with Reed's foundation at the same time. "Maybe I'll mention it to him when I see him again." Scooting over closer, she grinned, "He'll probably tease T'Challa about it, though. Or, you know, whatever they do that's like teasing but isn't like anybody else does it." They were good friends and she knew T'Challa was as happy as anyone else to have Reed Richards back, but they had that weird, slightly competitive thing going. Because they were still guys, no matter how smart they were. "You can help me with my homework," she added with an impish grin. "That'll be fun, right?" |

So, maybe he was silly. That was okay - he'd always been silly, and she didn't seem any more upset about it now than she ever had. And, well, he sort of felt like being silly, which wasn't something he'd felt like doing very often for - well, for a long time, anyway. Maybe it was the wine. But he didn't think so. He could be serious, though. And when the conversation changed to the work she'd done on Veil's uniform with her new Wakandan friend, he had to wonder if she'd given any thought to picking up some classes at ESU once things settled down. If they - no, they were going to. She was right; this was going to be it this time, and thinking of the future wasn't an awful thing. Anyway, if she was interested, Reed was probably the guy to talk to about it. She seemed to think that over a little before answering, which was fair enough. "Yeah, I might think about that. It's not Wakanda," she pointed out, and he grinned as he took a drink from his glass, because yeah, he'd half figured she'd point that out, "but it's a good school all the same. Maybe I could take a few classes here and there, anyway." He nodded at that, because really, he couldn't think why not - it wasn't like Reed was likely to protest her furthering her education, and smiled as she scooted over closer. "He'll probably tease T'Challa about it, though. Or, you know, whatever they do that's like teasing but isn't like anybody else does it." That got a laugh, because while he'd never really witnessed it himself, he could picture it pretty well. Half teasing, half "I'm better than you are", genius scientist style. "They do that a lot?" he asked as he shifted a little, then reached over to brush his fingers over her lower back. And realized, very belatedly, that they were still wearing not only their clothes, but the stealth suits they'd put on before going off to Westchester. Hmm, they should do something about that, huh? He took a sip from his drink, just as Kitty looked over at him with a grin that was pure mischief and said, "You can help me with my homework. That'll be fun, right?" He nearly choked on his wine, barely managing to swallow before spraying it over the room. "Oh yeah," he managed, grinning as he wiped at his eyes. "That'd definitely be a good plan. Lemme know when you want a B- in Accounting, and I'm definitely your guy." He raised his eyebrows and pretended to look her over skeptically. "Unless when you say "help" you mean "let me use you as an experiment subject?" he added. "Because y'know, I want full disclosure in writing about the nature of the experiments before I agree to anything. Not that I'll understand it," he admitted, "but it's the principle of the thing." It seemed only fair. Especially since he really, really doubted she was planning on playing mad scientist with him, anyway. |
