I'm a veteran RPer (six years and counting as of 2012, broskis) so my rules about RPing might seem a little strict. They're this way, however, because I've seen a lot of problems go around if these rules aren't in place. That's why I stuck the rules in here with the RPing guide. So, the Rules: As stated in the other rules thread, no sexual content outside of the 'adult' section. I'm fairly certain most of us don't want to read some kinky sex scene in the non-adult section. It's just plain awkward. No godmodding. What's that, you ask? It's making your OC more powerful than all the others, or, in the extreme cases, making them unrealistically powerful. Godmodding means making your OC win a fight against another OC without letting the person in control of the other OC have a say. Godmodding also includes using your OC to negate things someone claims about their own. (Ex. someone claims their OC is good at fighting, but a godmodder will have their OC go to great lengths to prove they aren't.) No Mary Sues/Gary Stus. What are those, you ask? Read my little article on them and find out. I have links at the bottom for other sites to reference. As stated in the other rules thread, if someone says the content of the RP is making them uncomfortable, do your best to accommodate them. I'm fine with squicky gore and violence, so I won't make a rule about it, but if someone in an RP complains about it, then tone things down for them. Each RPer can have a total of three OCs in an RP. This does not mean they can only have three OCs total. There is a default limit of five people per RP. The creator of the RP can decide to allow more or less in, but unless they say as much assume only five people will be allowed in. If you're going to be absent for an extended period of time (over a week) let the others in the RP know. RA RP specific rules: Only applies if canon characters are going to be present in the RP If canon characters are present, only one person can control one. So if someone lays claim to Pilot, for example, and are given permission to use Pilot, then only they can use Pilot. The person controlling Pilot can't, however, also control ANNET or any other canon character. If you control a canon character, you can't have that canon character be in a relationship with or end up in a relationship with one of your OCs. No mobbing canon characters; treat them as you would OCs. In addition to the rule above, no fighting over relationships. Please. Spare us the fangirl drama. Universal Stating in your OC's bio that they are/were in a relationship with a canon character is an insta-Mary Sue/Gary Stu. Sorry. Stick to the canon as much as possible. Now, clearly, with the comic still being in its early stages of plot this will be tricky, but we've got to try. RPing Guide It's simple. Write in third person, and if the characters are split up into different areas, denote where they are with tildes (~). So, for example, let's say Mary-Anne and Jacob are in different spots. A post with them would look like this:
It doesn't matter if two different people are using Mary-Anne and Jacob, if any of the characters in the RP are in a different location, denote where they are. This is to help clear up confusion and keep everyone aware of where the OCs in a post are. |

Rules for Turn-Based RPs Turn-based posting in RPs is great for keeping people from falling behind, but that being said, there are some issues that can occur. As a result, there are a few rules specific to this. After four days of not posting, a person may be skipped over for that one turn. This number can, of course, be changed. In the end what is appropriate will depend on the average speed of each individual RP. One-on-one scenes are to be written out before hand. This is to ensure that if things are planned out, no one who isn't involved can ruin the plan by inserting their OC, and that it doesn't take a long time to get through a scene that would otherwise take a short amount of time to get through. Writing the scene out can be done through PMs or Instant Messengers, whichever is preferred, and then posted by the person who's turn to post comes up first. |
