"Good point," she agreed. One would have an easier time removing flies than ants, "Actually, both are repelled by water, but, again, if you don't like swimming, that's a possible sacrifice on your part." It wasn't her intention to sound so pessimistic most of the time. Varinka just felt safer looking at the world through a realistic lens. Dreams never lasted forever; eventually, the dreamers would have to wake up and she'd rather force herself awake than linger in apprehension, wondering when the fantasy would end.
Was that a shrug of agreement?
She turned her face away, pretending to focus on a cricket that had landed on a shrub branch. Cheerfully, It chirped, but the song was loud, being nearly directly next to her ear and all. A quick snort from the feline's wetsand colored nose sent the small insect leaping away. "Can't have everything," the tigon replied after a brief pause, still not looking at him, "You have talents and disadvantages. Let's leave it at that." Being this honest made her edgy. She wanted to be a good friend, but didn't like the thought of her truthfulness being taken out of context and chance being labeled as cruel or mean.
Saying that he had never thought about this before returned her attention on him instantly. Cutting her lilac eyes in fashion that said "Seriously?!", she waited for the leon to reword himself. When he did, her eyes softened to their normal look once more.
Not able to see the difficultly, Varinka sighed and rested her head on the ground. "Ironic, isn't it?" she thought out loud, "The imagination stops working when it's needed, but is raring to go any other time...it must suck to be you." Her mouth curled up in one corner, forming a smirk.
But...How am I supposed to teach myself to be royalty? No one around here is a king or queen, unless you’ve been keeping secrets from me, Viv.
Obviously not. Her existence had been a jumbled mess, a complete mystery in certain areas, but this didn't bother her anymore. The tigon formed her own purposes, not the other way around. "Look...I'm not going to be doing all of the work here, mister," the female huffed, chuckling lightly. She was usually the slower one, so it was strange on the other side of the bridge. "If there is no one here to study, what comes next?" She was beginning to wonder exactly how bad he wanted this. If it was this hard to come up with a plan of action, it wasn't as much as she had previously suspected.

- Actually, both are repelled by water, but, again, if you don't like swimming, that's a possible sacrifice on your part.
“Are you kidding? I love swimming!” Raziel said, noticing for not-the-first-time that their once-serious conversation had taken a quite less solemn turn. “It’s so much fun, and I am excellent at it--it was the only thing to do in the jungles when I was a cub!” He said, almost like he was trying to justify the reasons for his water-liking. “You should try it, Rink. I bet you’d love it.” He added, a bit of sarcasm creeping into the last part of his voice.
From what he knew, big cats didn’t go out of their way to get wet or damp or jump into water—he knew several lions that would pout and complain for days if even the slightest raincloud appeared overhead. They were almost unbearable when the rainy season came along. He didn’t take into account that Varinka was half-tiger, and tigers also loved to swim.
Can't have everything. You have talents and disadvantages. Let's leave it at that.
Varinka said, glancing away suspriciously. Judging by this, Raz assumed that Vivi was telling him the complete truth. Sometimes she got so antsy whenever she said something that honest. He assumed this must make her feel vulnerable, or she just might be afraid of making anyone mad with her responses. Lying was easy, after all. Telling the complete truth…now, that was true challenge…
“Who says I can’t have everything?” Raziel laughed, as joking as ususal. There was a bit of seriousness to this thought, though…who was to say that he couldn’t acive this, too, if he tried hard enough?
“And you know what one of those talents is?” The leon poked in, prodding Varinka with his paw in an effort to make her guess what he was thinking. “Go on, guess. You know you want to.” He prodded, determined this time.
The imagination stops working when it's needed, but is raring to go any other time...it must suck to be you
“Oh yes, it’s quite terrible. A curse, really.” Raziel sighed overly-dramatically, placing one of his paws on his forehead theatrically. “Thinking and thinking and never stopping. Of course, when I DO need it…my silly mind’s nowhere to be found.”
Look...I'm not going to be doing all of the work here, mister.
“What, wanting to take a break already, Viv?” The leon teased, laughing for a moment before returning to a more serious tone. “ You know, If we’re really going to do this, than I AM going to need your help. And that includes everything that’s going on right in there. No exceptions.” He pointed to the general area between Varinka’s eyes, part of him hoping that the tigon’s brains would be up there like his were. Otherwide, his last sentence would’ve been pointless and confusing.
If there is no one here to study, what comes next?
He listened to the tigon’s words, the gears in his mind already turning. One word of her sentence stuck out above the reast, repeating in his thoughts like a broken record.
Study. Study. Study?!
“That’s it!” Raziel practically roared. Judging by the excitement on his face, it was obvious that a lightbulb just went off somewhere.” Studying, like you said! There’s no kings or queens around here, obviously, but I know there’s royalty around these parts. It might take a few days or even a week to get to them, but time isn’t a problem. I’ll walk through the desert, if need be.” He broke off excitedly, imaging the two of them dramatically running into the swift desert sands. “Can you imagine that, though, ‘Rinka? Being able to study real kings and queens at work? We’d figure them out in no time!” He exclaimed, immensenly grateful for his friend’s suggestion. With them being able to analyze current leaders…they could potentially learn everything they would ever need to know. [/color]

Varinka shook her head, then nodded to correct her mistake. She had not meant ‘you’ as in him specifically not enjoying swimming. It was a general, hypothetical indication. “Oh I agree and do love it myself,” she said, enthusiastically, “Swimming is great. Don’t know why others have such a problem with it?“ All the felines she had met at the reserves and zoos didn’t like it. Then again, they didn’t like much of anything, and usually lied around, sad or sleeping.
Who says I can’t have everything?
Her lavendar eyes rolled. “No one. Why would you want everything anyways?” the tigon asked semi-concerned, turning this part of their discussion more serious, “Can’t really be sure that once you have everything that you’ll be happy and content with life. And then, if your not, that's not really having everything now, is it?” She wouldn't want it all, that was just not her priority. Having goals was one thing, but being greedy and going after what you want just because it's there was silly.
And you know what one of those talents is?
Oh good gosh…why had she taken it there? Did he want compliments or for her get hung up on choosing how to say it properly? Both, because that's how it would end. Varinka knew he had pluses, but didn't want him to get a big head about the ones she pointed out. Or shoot down anything she mentioned, saying that it wasn't a strength.
Go on, guess. You know you want to.
“Um…Acting?” was her immediate attempt, “Wait…no… having incredible modesty! That’s it, right?” She joked, thinking that was probably her own talent. Hopefully, he'd tell her on his own and stop putting her on the spot like this.
Tired from all this playing, Varinka sighed and yawned. She had been sitting up before, but, by now, was on the ground again, stomach lounging against the earth.
What, wanting to take a break already, Viv?
“It would be nice.”
You know, If we’re really going to do this, than I AM going to need your help. And that includes everything that’s going on right in there. No exceptions.
Her eyes crossed, focusing on the paw in front of her as it waved in and out of her blind spot. She snapped at the obstruction teasingly, not trying to do any damage. “Duuuuuuh,” she commented, putting emphasis on the ‘D’ and drawing out the word. She gently swatted at his side with her enormous paw. “I intend on helping you, but this is your quest, is it not? I shouldn’t have to come up with everything.”
That’s it!
She smiled.
Studying, like you said!
A nod. Finally. Did it really have to take this long?
There’s no kings or queens around here, obviously, but I know there’s royalty around these parts. It might take a few days or even a week to get to them, but time isn’t a problem. I’ll walk through the desert, if need be.
Another nod. Her tail began swaying excitedly, but her face showed signs of fatigue. It was late and they hadn’t slept. This mission, just the planning part, was already taking a lot out of her. She hoped, but doubted, the rest would be easier.
Can you imagine that, though, ‘Rinka? Being able to study real kings and queens at work? We’d figure them out in no time!
Of course she could imagine it, having been the one to guide Raz along, up until this point. “I wouldn’t say in no time at all,” she corrected, “But we’d definitely have useful information that could turn you into a great leader.” The length of time it would take would depend on the places and what he needed to learn vs. what he already knew.

Raziel deflated a little bit as Varinka revealed her love of swimming. She was quite eager about it too, with an obvious excitement in her voice. He never would have guessed by looking at her, especially since, as she said, so many others have a problem with it.
“Since when do you like to swim, Vivi? I didn’t realize you tigons were the swimmy-type as well!” He said, a perk in his voice. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d gone swimming, really. He must have been an adolescent, young adult maybe. It had been a while, to say the least.
Can’t really be sure that once you have everything that you’ll be happy and content with life. And then, if your not, that's not really having everything now, is it?
“Yeah, you’re right.” Raz said, his glorious vision once again knocked back into reality by Varinka. She was good at that, he noted. The tigon could definitely put things back into perspective, especially when he started to think big. “What fun would it be to have everything? Then there’d be nothing left to look forward to! No other plots to be planned!"
Wait…no… having incredible modesty! That’s it, right?
“Oh yes!” Raziel nodded jokingly, his hair bouncing up and down in front of his face. “My modesty is second-to-none.” He bragged, a contradiction in itself. “But no, really. I’ll have you know that I am an excellent diver. I can jump into the water— not a splash! It’s quite fun, really.” He added, briefly recalling all of the times he’d snuck up on someone by taking the water approach. “I’ll have to demonstrate for you sometime.”
“It would be nice.”
Raziel let out a half-laugh, figuring that Varinka would’ve said something like that. She was always so honest with her thoughts, at least around him. He liked this insight into her brain, espeically considering how differently she thought than him. It was nice to get a glimpse into a different mind than his own, trying to figure out how she worked.
He flinched a tiny bit as Varinka pawed at his side, his body wavering. With a giant paw like hers, even a gentle push could sometimes send Raziel tumbling onto his side. He sidesteped a little bit, regaining his balance with a small laugh.
“True.” He said with a nod. ‘It may be my quest, but you’re still coming with me. We're going to do this together.” The lion said with a firm confidence. He needed Varinka to help him on this. In fact, he doubted he could even get close without the tigon at his side.
Judging by the way her eyes drooped a little bit, he was beginning to guess that the tigon was getting as tired as he was. Now that he thought about it, night had snuck up on them. It felt like just a minute, though, that he’d been sitting up in the vines and staring into the jungle canopy.
I wouldn’t say in no time at all, but we’d definitely have useful information that could turn you into a great leader.
The lion nodded again, agreeing with what Varinka said. “I bet it’ll be a ton of fun, too!” He added with a smirk. “Sneaking into territories…spying on the royals…maybe even asking them a few questions, if we get the chance!” He said optimistically. “It’s not every day that this happens, after all. Heh. I bet they’ll never see it coming, too.” He finished, attempting to imagine to looks on the kings and queens’ faces once they found out that he would one day be a king.

Her eyes widened then slitted, a bit appalled at this thought of her not liking water. "Can't speak for all of my kind, but I assure you, Raz-dear," she insisted, placing a large striped paw to her chest, "I have ALWAYS loved water. It's the greatest thing next to snow."
About having it all, Varinka nodded in agreement with the conclusion they drew up. There would be nothing to look forward to. With having everything, the idea of planning would be extinct, too.
...But no, really. I’ll have you know that I am an excellent diver. I can jump into the water— not a splash! It’s quite fun, really. I’ll have to demonstrate for you sometime.
Diving? What an interesting skill. "Yes," she said, though absolutely impressed by this information was yawning through a smile and stretching out for a more comfortable resting position, "You will definitely have to show me that sometime." She wasn't against the usual belly flop and kitty paddle herself, but the higher drops were a pain on the stomach.
True. It may be my quest, but you’re still coming with me. We're going to do this together.
"Yes yes, my darling," the tigoness replied, rolling on her side and waving her paw at him, "I have your back. With you all the way and all that jazz." She smirked slyly, but her endurance was fading out toward the end of his comments.
The leon was very excited about their plans, which was good. Awesome really. It made her feel great to have pushed him into reaching out for his dreams rather than watch the opportunities pass by. She felt productive in her services as a friend. Grateful as Varinka was to be pals with him just the way he was now, it was and would be wonderful to assist him on this adventure, seeing him grow and reach his potential. She was looking forward to their journey, too. "Uh huh," was her last slurry response before she fell into a deep sleep, getting ready for the mission and preparing for the endless hours of training ahead of them. This may be her last chance for a full nights rest in awhile so she should enjoy it.
