"I don't know either to be honest, it was close, that's for sure." He said with a soft nod. He wasn't breathing harsh but he sure could feel his heart race. He liked that feeling, now that he thought about it. it almost made him feel free. Like he didn't have a care in the world, but he had to keep to the Pride, that was the only thing keeping him going back to the loner ways of life.

"There are a few ways to get up to the top, I know of one that is somewhat easy." Kofi said as he heard Funzi ask his question. He then turned back to Priderock, many lions that probably came to the giant birthmark of the savannah would have been intimidated by how large it was, in the distance it was just a scene that was too much to take in. The lions there, knew every piece of rock that was on it, so they could find easier ways to travel up it without injuring themselves. He began to climb up the first group of rocks seeing that they could hold himself, then looked back at Funzi again, "Just follow me," He said in an assuring voice as he watched his friend before turning back to find the next good group of rocks to climb on. He had done it so many times it was almost like reading the back of his paw.

With Kofi as his guide, Mwanafunzi started his ascent of Pride Rock. He saw the confidence Kofi had with his steps. That was to be expected, Mwanafunzi thought. The young lion lived there, after all, and it would be odd if he didn't know his way up.

"I must thank you for doing this," Mwanafunzi said when they reached the top of the horizontal jutting rock. If Mwanafunzi was right, it was at the tip of this rock where the leaders of the Pridelands spoke to the animals and presented their cubs. "This really means a lot to me." After a moment of gazing at the rock's tip, he looked around and saw the entrance to a cave. "What's it like living in the Pridelands, Kofi?" he said and turned back to face his guide. "I mean, of all the stories that I've heard, none have really said what it's like to live here."

The moment he finished talking, Mwanafunzi mentally cursed himself and his curiosity. He recalled Kofi's statements from just minutes before about being made fun of and his hesitation to talk about himself. However, the bout of fun and excitement had caused him to forget until his very question reminded him. "Um, you don't have to answer that." He paused, and then added, "Not if you don't want to, that is." He hoped he didn't just offend his new friend.

Ooc: That's alright I noticed that her name was taken out.

Bic: Kofi thought about it, remembering how he was taught as a cub, the ways of life before going into adult hood. They were still all with him, that was for sure. They were taught many things, such as the great kings living in the stars, as they watched down on them. Or even the great ceremonies that they performed when the heir was born. The Pridelanders were filled with tradition and that was a large piece of their lives. They were also told the basics, respecting the older lions, knowing their place, and offering a duty at all times when they could. "The lions here they teach us a lot, I guess to be a lion is the best way to put it. It's so hard to explain how it is that you'd have to live here in order to understand." Kofi explained as he watched his steps as he climbed. They were about half way now up the rocks. Even as a young adolescent he still was having a hard time figuring out what was true and not by his own decisions. But he was sure he'd figure it out.
He looked up from his thoughts to see how close they were too the top, the famous mark it had been for years. "We're about half way there now." He assured Funzi looking back at him to see how the other lion was doing.

Mwanafunzi looked around. Even only half way up, the view was amazing. It was exhilarating. He turned back to Kofi and thought of his words. "I believe I understood what you mean," Mwanafunzi said. When he thought about what Kofi said, it made perfect sense. The old taught the new the ways and traditions and passed on their knowledge in hopes that the new generation would use it well. In other words, they taught what it means to be a pridelander. For those born here, being a lion meant being a pridelander. You really would have to live there to understand all those aspects of life that define a pridelander.

"Back at home, our pride wasn't exactly a constant thing," Mwnafunzi began. He thought it would be good to give Kofi an idea of life where Mwnafunzi was from in exchange for what he told him. "Lions would come into the pride, lions would leave the pride, a few times some other animals seemed to join also. A better description would be to say we were a collection of rogues. So we could do what we want because no one really minded. Well, except our parents. But that's natural, of course. It didn't stop my brother and I from going on adventures like we heard the travelers tell." He paused for a bit. He then added, "You shouldn't believe every story you hear, though. You can end up looking like a fool hiding under a bush." He didn't add the part saying it could lead to killing your brother. They were almost to the top, and he didn't want to ruin the mood.

Kofi nodded as he was along the last groups of rocks that the two would have to climb. They were almost there, he could see the larger rock that was leaning out pointing towards the sky almost. "I understand, that makes a lot of sense as well. Though Prides can be different in their own ways, they don't have to be set in stone." He added after jumping up onto the large rock that extended forward. At last they were there, on one of he highest points within the Savanah. The sight was just breathtaking as always, being able to see the Majabalian pride out in the distance as well as the Outlands on the other side of the rock. Everything stood before them. "Well we're here." He added looking back at him.

This was it: the moment Mwanafunzi had been wishing for since he first heard the story of Pride Rock with his brother as a cub. Mwanafunzi climbed atop the summit and stared in amazement. He could see far away from up there; he could see as far as a day's journey even. It was more than he imagined it could be. It was more than just sight. He could feel the wind blow through his mane as the wind was strong up there. He felt it cool him, and it was so crisp he could practically taste it. He walked in small circles around the summit to take in every view, every color, every sensation. He saw the sun nearing the horizon.

"Kofi, this is..." Mwanafunzi stumbled with words in his excited wonderment. "It's...it's ...it's..." He was at a complete loss for words. He wanted to describe everything, and his racing mind couldn't find the right words. He stared out, his gaping mouth turned into a smile. His smile turned into a laugh. His laugh gave way to a small cry.

Mwanafunzi bowed his head and stared down at the rock beneath him, a few tears running down; a mixture of joy for experiencing such beauty and discovery, and sorrow for his brother who wanted to experience it even more than he did. "It's simply amazing," he finally managed to say in a subdued voice.

He looked back up to see the view and the setting sun. He wanted to stay until the stars came out. "My brother, he would have loved this, you know?" Mwanafunzi looked back at Kofi. "In fact, you remind me a lot of him. He was a lot like you." Mwanafunzi believed that this similarity was why he got along with Kofi so well. It was why he believed, for a moment, that his brother was indeed sharing this moment with him atop Pride Rock.

"That's strange uh? Either way I'm glad I got to enjoy this time with you. Normally like I said I kept to myself, but this time I opened up to someone. Probably because we shared similar things in our past and in our future." Kofi said with a smile as he saw Mwanafunzi's excitement and joy as he looked over the site of Priderock. It was the site that a numerous amount of animals have wanted to see, surely a young cub would witness it when they were born. But who really remembered that far back as an infant? Though this would be a moment that he and Mwanafunzi would not forget.
