It was a nice afternoon. The adolescent male looked towards the sun, estimating that there were enough daylight left for him to hunt some prey for his youngsters. Kuruka looked around the Pridelands, such lush greenery and abundance in everything that a pride needs. The male smirked a bit, remembering that he once belonged to such a place.

Kuruka looked behind him at Pride Rock, seeing that the King was still perched on the ledge. The adolescent had come to speak to him in the morning. As leader of his own band of lions, Kuruka had found it necessary to make his presence known to neighbouring prides and to keep them on friendly terms. His family consisted merely of cubs and adolescents, any attack on them would have been devastating. Kuruka continually kept contact with the Pridelanders and Majabalians to assure them that they were not a threat and certainly not rogues. Today was one such day. He had cautiously moved through the Prideland borders in plain sight, not giving the apperance that he was slinking through as a rogue might have done.

The talk had been successful. A casual walk and chat with the Prideland King. Kuruka respected him. He was wise and ruled with strength. Kuruka knew the King had a daughter, but had never seen her on his ventures. They must be filling her brain with useless concepts about royal responsibilities and the importance of leadership in these lands. They only turn out how they were taught he supposed.

The male walked on, wondering whether the King would mind if he hunted on his lands.

  • Aleyska hadn't even bothered to ask her parents' permission to take a walk out onto the lands. She'd long past that stage of constantly asking, constantly worrying about what they'd think of her questions. It was so much easier to just leave and explain later, or at least she thought.

Besides, if she really was going to be Queen of this land one day, she might as well know it inside and out. She'd been making circles around the land, starting off one day with a small area and gradually circling her way out, farther and farther. She would spend all day doing this, sprinting away from Pride Rock just to spend time with the vast land. There was so much to see...so much to notice, so much to love...it was hard to see how anyone could truly appreciate the full beauty of the land.

In fact, the princess paused right then. She sunk down into a sitting position, letting the gentle wind blow long strands of grass against her. She took in a deep breath, letting a genuine smile slip for once. It was nice to actually feel happy...not just putting on an act so that she'd look 'respectable' or whatever her parents called it. To her, it just sounded like a lie.

Her ears flicked to the side as she caught onto another rustling. The wind quickly accompanied it, sending her the scent of an unknown lion. Well, it smelled...she sniffed a little bit harder..it smelled vaguely familiar, but nothing Alyeska could put to a face. She turned her head around, finally catching a glimpse of the mystery lion.

"Hey there." She called in a friendly voice, noticing that the confident gray figure looked to be right about her age. "So where do you think you're going?" She continued to call his way, standing up to walk in his direction. [/color]

Kuruka was looking around for a nice rabbit, or warthog, when he heard a voice. Thinking that he was alone, he jumped a little. The male spun his head around, seeing a light coloured female lioness coming towards him. An adolescent, he corrected, recognising her youthful features as she drew nearer.

'Hey there,' he replied, frowning at her greeting. Already, he got the impression that she was nosy. Skip the small talk and go straight to the questions. 'I think I'm going that way,' he replied, not gesturing to anything. 'Where are you going?'

As she drew nearer to the stranger, she noticed just how...dark he was. She'd never seen a coat quite that dark of brown. The little Amina cub's was dark, but this lion's was even darker than that. To top it off, he had a tuft of medium gray mane. Well, it would be one day...for now it was just a bit of fluff.

"Ah. Deeper into the Pridelands you go." She said, slipping into step beside the new adolescent. Now they walked side by side, as Alyeska was fairly certain that he wouldn't try anything funny. Judging by the way he was walking earlier, he hadn't meant any harm. "You're quite brave there, for a stranger." She noted.

'And where am I going?" She echoed with a small laugh. "Well, it looks like I'm going 'that way' too. What a coincidence." The princess said, liking this new guy already.

Kuruka sniffed in distrust at the female, who now strode to walk beside him. He thought she was quite fearless to do something like that, considering he could be, you know, a vicious killer. She was probably a Pridelander too, judging by how comfortable she was in these grasslands.

'I'd prefer deeper away from the Pridelands,' he said, looking across the vast land and seeing the faint outline of the trees that was his forest. 'See here, 'that way' is quite far. I'm sure you aren't going to the 'that way' that I'm going,' he said, grinning.

"Oh!' Alyeska said, correcting herself. "So, it's away from the Pridelands you go. I can't blame you. I'm trying to get away from there myself." She said, a bounce in her step. She could easily see the faint outline of forest in the distance. Since the Pridelands were based on open lands, the forest had never appealed to them. That was one of the reasons it had laid unclaimed for so long. That, and there were just too many bugs in forests...eew.

"Well, 'that way' is quite far 'that way." She noted, also noticing that neither of them had stopped nor slowed down in their pace. "But," She paused, straightening herself in a self-confident sort of way. "Just how sure are you that I'm not going the way you are?" She asked, a smile in her voice. She'd never gone that far past the boundaries of the Pridelands before...in fact, the last time she had had been on accident. Not that she would let this guy know that, of course.

Kuruka smirked at the female. 'I am 100% sure you aren't going to where I am going,' he said. 'I'd bet you a rabbit if I catch one, that I will probably never see you again either, unless you are of course a Pridelander,' he said, testing her. 'In which case, I might see you again.' A lion in the Pridelands, would make her a Pridelander right?

'And why are you wanting to get away from here. This place is all a lion could ever want,' he said, a slight tinge of bitterness in his tone. 'A nice family, nice land, plenty of food.' He flicked his tail to rid of a fly on his back.

"And why are you so sure of yourself, there?" She said with a mischievous grin."For all you know, I could be a rouge." She said, with a slight tint of defiance in her voice. Just because she was in the Pridelands didn't mean that she was automatically a pridelander. Well, in this case she was by birth...but that was different.

"Oh, and why might that be?" Alyeska said with a small laugh. "Do you trespass in the Pridelands frequently? Or is this just your first time?"

A look of sadness briefly crossed Alyeska's face when he mentioned just how 'perfect' these lands were. He had a point, at least about the land and the food. "Yeah, well, let's just say that I'm not happy with how things are set up right now." She said, of course referring to the fact that her parents were the King and Queen, and that she would eternally be their princess, like it or not.

The male could see the line of boulders that marked the Prideland borders. It was not too close yet but he knew he would be home soon. Beyond the rocks were a small stretch of land and finally the beginning of the tall trees of the Tawi Forest.

'No, as a matter of fact, I do not trespass these lands frequently. If you say you are a rouge, which I highly doubt that you are, then you must be trespassing too.'

Kuruka blew his hair tuft out of his eyes. The wind in the plains really wasn't helping the already messy fur atop his head.

The male looked at the female curiously. She wasn't happy how things were? What did she mean? 'So...you do live here?' he asked, eyebrows raised. He noticed the sadness crossing her expression but chose not to comment on it. Chances were, she was a Pridelander spoilt to bits by her loving parents and now she's not getting something she really wanted. He's heard that young Prideland lions were sometimes like that.

Alyeska could also see the border approaching--the one she had not yet dared to cross. Then again, she was almost always with either her mother, father, or some other poor 'escort' that had the misfortune of having to follow her around. Most of them were fine with it, though, considering she was friends with most in her pride.

"Frequently being the key word there." She added on, taking a few steps ahead of Kuruka. "For all I know, you could tresspass, oh, occasionally. There is a difference there, you know."

She glanced back at the adolescent, just in time to see him struggle to move his hair tuft. "How do you even see out of that thing?" She said with a giggle, mimicking his previous attempt.

"And yes, I do live here--whether I like it or not." She said, glancing back over her shoulder. Pride Rock still glowed in the distance, beginning to grow fuzzy from the distance. "How about you? You're definitely not a Pridelander."

'Yes you're right. I do trespass here occassionally,' he agreed, amused. 'Trust me, this hair can get annoying. But you know, it adds to my good looks, so what can I say?' Kuruka added, smirking again. This female was entertaining, but he wished she would go back to Pride Rock soon so he could catch some food for his brood before he leaves these lands.

'And definitely no. I am no Pridelander and I'd be dead before I become one - no offence,' he said, stepping over a small thorn bush carefully. 'I live a free life. High society ain't for me, not that you'd understand,' he said, a condescending yet teasing tone in his voice. 'And don't tell me you do understand because one look at you and it's obvious you've lived a privileged life.' Has he said enough to get rid of her yet?

"Ah," Alyeska started, bouncing along to the side of the brown adolescent. "So you're a repeat offender. Why am I not surprised?" She laughed, looking over to see his smile through that gray tuft of hair. "It is a nice touch." She added with a shrug, not wanting to inflate his ego or anything. From the looks of it, he sure had enough confidence to go around.

"Well, geez. The Pridelands can't be all that bad if you're always stopping by." She said, with a slight, brief furrow of the eyebrows. The princess could definitely say that she hadn't heard anyone but an Outlander be so opposed to the pride. "And what wouldn't I understand?" She asked, a dare in her voice. She watched as Kuruka carefully stepped over the thorn bush. The princess just jumped over it, easily landing on the other side. "And who ever said that I've had, quote 'a privileged life'?"

Kuruka eyed the female with raised eyebrows at her words. 'So you want to say that you haven't lived a privileged life? I mean, I get it, living in a large pride with plenty of prey for everyone must be such a drag,' he said, smiling to take the sting out of the words.

He continued walking, smelling the faint whiff of the evening breeze. There was still lots of time to hunt though. The sun was gone but there was still some time before the light began to fade. Kuruka looked sideways at the Pridelander, then back to the boulders that marked the border, now barely fifty metres away. 'Don't you have some place to go, lady?'

"Oh yes." She agreed, jokingly. "It's just so sad to think that if I ever want another meal, I have to walk allll the way over to the grasslands. It's a tough life, but, you know, someone's gotta live it, right?" She said, nudging the lion just to make sure that he knew she was joking as well. She laughed at the other lion's raised eyebrows, though. They looked quite funny, as they were somewhat hidden by his hair.

"But no, now that I think about it, these lands are pretty nice. What do you have against them, anyways?" She asked with another smile, wondering just what could make him dislike this area so much.

"And my name's not just 'lady,' you know." Alyeska said. This was one thing she always strived to do whenever someone called her by another name. Princess. Heir. Future Queen. All of these were titles--flat, meaningless. Empty. None of them reflected her, or who she was. Just who she might become. "And If I did have something better to do, you can bet that I wouldn't be here!" She said in a teasing way, meaning the opposite. Unlike this lion, Alyeska was enjoying herself. It wasn't that often that she met someone new her age.

The male laughed lightly at her joke about the grasslands. 'That is indeed a tough life. You'll need servants for that kinda thing.' Kuruka blew his hair again as a breeze shifted his tuft so that it was sticking right into his left eye. 'I don't have anything against the land. You are absolutely right, the land is beautiful. But even more beautiful if it was free land. Know what I mean?' not really thinking that the female would know.

He gave her a sideway glance again as she nudged him, this time a bit uncertain. Kuruka looked at her blankly at her words about her name. He paused, then added 'So...are you going to tell me your name? Or just leave it at you're not called 'lady'?'
