Kuruka gave her a smile. 'Ok then, let's go,' he said, leading the way at an easy walk. 'A word of warning - ' the adolescent dropped his voice to a low whisper. He allowed a glint of steel enter his eyes. 'These trees are ancient. They are alive. The forest is alive. We are allowed to live here, because we do not disturb it.' The male continued to walk, though now he began to stalk forward curiously with his back slightly hunched, as if he was wary of the trees itself. 'I have heard stories, whispers of stories, of events that have occurred in these trees.' Kuruka dropped his head even lower and uttered the next words so soft that the female would have to lean in closer to hear him. 'The stories - we do not speak of it.' They walked on. 'If you hear anything,' he continued in a deadly whisper, 'if you see anything that shouldn't be there, do not, I repeat, do not acknowledge them. They call to us. But we do not call to them. Understand?' He paused. 'Remember - the forest is alive.' Kuruka's ears flattened as at that moment, a chilly breeze swept around them as if in response to his words. 'They know we are here...' the male looked at the trees frowning. ooc: :) |

"Okay." Alyeska agreed happily, closely following Kuruka. When he stopped, though, she dug her back legs into the ground in an attempt to stop herself from running into him. She also ducked down low, unsure what to expect. The lion must know the land much better than her, so she might as well follow his every. single. move. She squinted into the distance, a look of serious concentration on her face. "What is it?" She breathed, right before he started. "And what do you mean, they're alive?!" She stood up, eyes alert. After that, she realized she'd just spoken far too loud...maybe too loud, actually. "How can you live in it without disturbing?" Alyeska asked, although this time it was more of a whisper. "What if you, like, step on a plant?" She asked, a tint of concern in her voice. She followed suit with his stalk, though, and kept her belly low to the ground. This was one skill the princess knew how to do quite well, she must admit. "And what sort of events?" She asked, a daring tone to her voice. Her lips curled up into a slight smile, though. She loved to hear stories, and especially about places she'd never been through before.. " And I understand...but I betcha we're brave enough to handle them." The cold wind rushed toward them, and Alyeska pawed at her face in annoyance. A little bit of dirt had been blown into her eyes, much to her discontent. She glanced over at Kuruka, though, who had a lot more to worry about around the wind. She couldn't help but let out a small laugh. Him and his hair, and all. The lioness wondered if he could even see out of that tuft sometimes... "Then why don't we go and say hi?" She suggested, taking one hesitant step forward. |

Kuruka looked at her in amusement. He just told her the forest is alive and she wants to simply step forward and say hi? The male dropped his head further down. 'Shhh,' he whispered, 'It's not about stepping on a plant, or knocking a leaf...we can live there, as long as we leave it alone. Know what I mean?' The male slinked forward, keeping as much to the shadows as he could. 'It is too dangerous to mention the...events at such close quarters,' he said, his eyes taking in all the trees that faced them. Within the darkness of the trees, he thought he saw a movement. Kuruka smirked internally, his face forever assuming a serious facade. 'Insanity, disappearances and deaths,' he breathed. A wind blew through them again and this time he saw a branch flick back into position as if just seconds before, it had been forced down to the ground. Kuruka stiffened and stopped. 'The forest is not pleased that I have brought you here. I think.. I think we should leave now. I know you have come far but it is not too late for you to scurry back to your cozy home.' He emphasized the last part in a slightly accusing tone, daring her to admit her fear and return to the safety of the Pridelands. Kuruka raised his eyebrows, waiting for her response. sort of like this --> or

"Oh!" Alyeska said, perking up a little bit. She was quite glad that she didn't have to worry about stepping on all of the little debris that surely lurked as they drew nearer and nearer to the trees. "I know what you mean." She nodded, letting her paws drag a little bit more. Before, she'd been taking one careful step after another, as if the ground would eat up her paws if her foot landed in the wrong place. "Oooo." Alyeska whispered, a slight smile on her face. From what the lion said, this Tawi forest seemed like an excellent place to explore. Dark...mysterious..maybe even terrifying. It was.everything the Pridelands wasn't. "You'll have to save those for later." She said, and it was true. They had enough creepiness right here to go around. Might as well save the best for last, right? A twig snapped, falling to the ground right on the forest's edge. Alyeska jumped a little bit, her ears snapping back and then forward in the blink of an eye. "And why would I want to do that?" Alyeska asked with a smirk. Her back paws quivered slightly, moreso in excitement than in fear. She glanced over at Kuruka, who stared at her with his eyebrows way up on his face. She returned a smug look, letting one go a little higher than the other--as if she was daring him to back down. |

The adolescent noted the female's courage. For a Pridelander, she really wasn't that bad. He would have expected her to have her tail between her legs and running back home as fast as she could. Kuruka smiled smugly. 'Heh, as you wish, lady,' he said, slinking forward again. The male led them right to the edge now. He stopped by the first tree, examining the twig that he had saw move. He sniffed subtly at the air. A heavy scent of mud lingered but nothing else. Hmm, not bad. The cubs were learning. 'The ground was here before...,' he said trailing off, referring to the mud smell. He had no idea what the sentence he had just said meant. Kuruka entered the forest, ears flattened and tense, allowing the darkness of the trees engulf them both. |

Alyeska relaxed a little bit as the lion beside her did the same. At least now he knew that she meant business. There was no use trying to get her to turn back now--she was already way too far into this. She followed his lead, and slowed her pace a little bit as they got closer to the trees. Her head tilted upwards as she stared up into the branches...the endless, endless branches. The lioness had barely entered and she could already tell just how forested this area was... Kuruka broke the brief silence, though. She glanced over at him with a completely puzzled look. He was intently sniffing at the branches of the tree--as if he was searching for something. They way he did it, though, almost made him look like he was about to lick the bark. After what she'd seen today, she wouldn't put it past him. 'What?" She said, nose scrunching in confusion. "The ground...what?" She repeated, peering over his shoulder to get a better look at the tree. It didn't look like anything that could have been near ground. Not. At. All. This rogue must have just been crazy... |

Kuruka turned his head around. 'The ground was here. You don't know that saying?' The male looked back to the front rather quickly, afraid that he'd burst into laughter, which would destroy the whole atmosphere that he had created. The male stepped forward, twisting his body down to avoid a low hanging branch. 'Watch the tree here,' he whispered, eyes trained forward. To the left, he heard a silent rustle, Kuruka snapped his head towards it and thought he caught a blur of a shadow dart past in the darkness. 'Stay close,' he hushed, moving forward again. He wondered whether the lioness would wonder why he had made such a seemingly dangerous place his home. He fought back an overwhelming urge to laugh. A noise from the right and Kuruka's ears flattened. Who was circling them? Circling closer and closer to its two prey. |

"No... I haven't...What sort of silly expression is that, anyways?" Alyeska laughed before attempting to recreate a moment or so of Kuruka's seriousness. "The ground was here." She said, in her best man-voice. The princess curved her body downwards in a very catlike way to avoid the branch he had mentioned. It was quite low for a tree, she must admit. Most of the trees the lioness saw in the Pridelands went waay up high before spreading out their branches. When he said to stay close, though, Alyeska creeped closer to his side--but not after taking a moment. In her approach, she made sure to 'accidentially' send at least one pebble flying into the brush next to them with an easy pawflick. It didn't explain the other noises she was hearing, though. She'd just felt like adding more into the mystery...she was fairly sure that Kuruka would tell her if there was something wrong. At least tell her to run for it or something. It couldn't be too dangerous. |

Kuruka felt the lioness come closer. 'It's a er saying we have here in the Tawi forest. It's very popular,' he whispered. A branch flicked again in a direction from his right. He felt a chill creep down his spine. Geez, he can't believe he was getting spooked. Kuruka frowned, wondering who it was hiding in the shadows. The male crept over a small thorn bush carefully. They were taking it way too far. The pair were already in a part of a forest that hardly saw the bare sky. The darkness of the trees were unnerving. Kuruka straightened up, deciding he'd had enough. 'Who's there?' he boomed in a deep loud voice, ears pricked and generally feeling rather tense. |

"Oh. I bet you guys must use it all the time." Alyeska agreed softly, gesturing to the supposedly changing land. While it sure sounded cool, there was a part of her that couldn't help but add a hint of disbelief to her words. She couldn't know for sure until she heard someone in his pride say it themselves. Another branch flicked, crashing against the trunk of the tree. The lioness jumped a little bit, scooting closer to Kuruka's side. He wouldn't be scared...right? She glanced over at him, and her eyes widened a little. While he didn't seem scared, the lion was certainly giving off a different vibe. At Kuruka's loud voice, Alyeska crouched down slightly. If it was anyone sent to follow the princess, there was no way she was going to let them see her so easily...well, that was only if they hadn't been following her the entire time. If so,hiding wouldn't matter. |

Kuruka's eyes riveted around the trees. All but darkness. And silence now. It was so still. Too still. The male was no longer crouching. He stood tall, chest up to enlarge himself. Was his pride in danger? He stepped forward, ears trained for any hostile noise. Why was it so silent? Then, as if to prove Kuruka wrong, a gusty wind blew through the trees, bringing the branches and leaves suddenly to a lively dance. His ears heard the noise of the trees coming to life and he used this opportunity to walk forward a bit quicker. The wind would hide the step of his paws. Unfortunately, someone else was thinking exactly the same thing. With a roar of battle cry, a dark figure pranced from a high branch and leapt down, arms out and ready. Kuruka spun around, teeth bared, just in time to see a small figure land on the lioness' back. ooc: it's a cub, in case you were wondering. So it won't be too heavy xD |

Alyeska noticed right away just how tall Kuruka was standing. That wasn't a good sign. She knew from experience, and teachings, that if a lion was afraid and didn't want to show it, they stood tall and broad, as if they dared anything to come after them. One little thing, and he was likely to deflate just as easily. Another wind swept through the forest, blowing a few leaves into her eyes. She blinked, squeezing her eyes closed as she reached up a paw to push away the bothersome leaves. When she looked up, Kuruka was a little bit farther away than she remembered. The young lioness took a step forward, still wanting to keep close. Before she could, though, there was a noise, simultaneous with a thump on her back. Alyeska immediately screamed, an involuntary action. She whipped her head around, attempting to catch a glance at whatever or whoever was on her back. |
