As the sun began to set in the Pridelands, a distinct figure rested on a boulder in the grasslands. It has only been a handful of days since Vivu made his way to the Pridelands, and already his life had drastically changed. He had a brother in Firo, and had formed a triumvirate between Kofi and Kitara. Perching on a boulder, the buzzard lion wondered what would await him next.

It was then that he caught a distinct smell, one that seemed oddly familiar. It wasn't one from the Pridelands, that much he knew. The smell felt old, and it reminded him of his former status as the Griffon. A breeze scratched against the long gash that adorned Vivu's back. Subtly, the buzzard lion edged towards the end of the boulder, ready to feign retreat if the presence was a threat. Vivu didn't want to risk facing an animal without sizing it up first.

Redav scented... a rather birdish smell, that of carrion. buzzards? he lifted his dark gray nose to the sky, and followed it, spotting a lion in the distance, preched on a rock. he tilted his head, and looked harder, only one eye any use. he began to walk closer, the burns and scars on his dark gray fur obvious. his patchy, lighter gray mane moved in a slight breeze as he made his way toward the other, wary. "helloo?" he rasped, his voice quiet and rough like sandpaper.

Vivu turned his head towards the source of the voice, and the look in his eyes had to be seen to be believed. It was an analytical stare, one that no lion cub would know. The way Vivu stared at Redav's burns and scars made his eyes practically water with excitement. Vivu had seen many dead bodies in his tenure, he had killed more than his fair share of animals, but he had never seen anything quite like this. In Vivu's eyes, Redav looked like a corpse, a living corpse. In the back of his head, he wondered if Redav was a ghost, a wraith from the beyond to exact vengeance on him for his actions.

"You look like... the brother of sleep." he managed to utter with a thick raspy accent, more to himself than to the elder lion. Vivu turned to face the disfigured lion, his scar now out of his sight, "Who... are you?" he asked, a tenseness in his voice. What did Redav want with him?

Redav tilted his head to one side for a moment. "brother of sleep?" he asked, his raspy, hoarse vocie quiet."anyway... i am redav, i live here" he said, coming closer. this lion seemd, off somehow, his body language seemed more liek that of a buzzard than that of a feline. "and who might you be?" he asked, avidly curious. the 5 year old lion circled the other, though not threateningly, merely taking a good look. he sniffed him, yep bird smell allright.

Vivu was unsettled by Redav's movements, circling around him and sniffing him. The lanky cub couldn't shake the idea that he had stains of guilt on his fur. Vivu could see it in his eye, Redav knew what he smelled like. And in Vivu's mind, he was convinced that he knew who he truly was. It was Redav's damaged appearance that had rattled Vivu's normally calm temperament. As Vivu's eyes focused on Redav's many scars, he could tell that Redav was looking at his...

Now what would a young cub like him be doing with a gash like that on his back? Why would buzzards like Tai, Tumbusi, and Gushu be following him? Why the accent? Vivu's identity could not be any more transparent. The Pridelanders probably knew this, but they didn't seem to care. But secretly, Vivu wanted them to care, he wanted them to acknowledge this. But most importantly, he wanted them to forgive him. Despite everything he's learned, he can't shake the feeling that his parents wouldn't be proud of what he's done.

Redav was the tallest lion Vivu had ever seen, he towered over him as he observed him. It made him feel small, and as a result, it made him feel weak. As much as Vivu hated to admit it, he was a little afraid of Redav. Vivu's perception of him was that he was death, coming to have a word with him. After a seemingly long silence, Vivu finally spoke up "...Vivu..." at this point, he decided to finally let his secret go, "The Griffon of the Desert..." beginning to unravel his vulturous upbringing.

"ahh..." redav nodded, and sat in front of the cub. "well, pleased to meet you" he nodded slowly. honestly, he was asking questions about why the cub would have a scar along his back. however, he knew that the stories behind scars could be rather revealing, and decided not to probe. he sniffed vivu one final time, and sat back on his haunches, regarding vivu silently. He coughed once, "i assume you were raised by the birds yes?" he assumed, easily inferring vivu's heritage.

Vivu's eyes targeted Redav every time he sniffed him, feeling his personal space was being invaded. As Vivu gazed upon the elder lion, taking in all the burns and scars. These markings demanded Vivu's respect, clearly this lion had endured a lot of suffering. "Yes. My venue." he answered, realizing that he still carried the scent of a vulture. The scent of a vulture is almost synonymous with death.

Vivu's mind was brimming with potential outcomes of this encounter, some good and some bad. Deciding to waste no time on it, he asked, "So, what ha-peens now? You do not seem like an attack-er... too calm." observed the buzzard lion.

"hmm... no, im not an attacker, i'd rather negotiate rather than fight" he chuckled good heartedly. he sat back, stepping out of Vivu's personal space. "i sense.. vulture yes? interetsing family" he nodded, not seeming to really care. "what do you happen to be doing here?" redav asked, merely curious. he hadn't spoken to anyone in a while, and most of those he did talk to cringed and tried to get away after they saw his face. this kid however.. didn't seem so squeamish, and in truth he relished it. he got lonely.

Vivu had a befuddled look on his face. This was not what he was expecting in any scenario. Not only did Redav know of his vulture roots, but he didn't seem to care. Then again, Redav's experiences may have caused him to be more understanding.
"I... live here." Vivu stated, gauging Redav's height. The cub wondered whether or not he would be that tall when he grew up.

Redav's features didn't seem so intimidating to Vivu now. Now that he knew that Redav wasn't an apparition from the past out to get him, he seemed more relaxed. After having to mutilate corpses for he and the vultures to eat, Redav wasn't that bad in comparison. Though Vivu was mostly fascinated by the burn marks, which he had never seen anything quite like them before.

"ahh well... nice to meet your acquaintance, im pretty new here" redav said, his dry voice rough and slightly monotonous. he coughed twice, dryly, his back arching as he did so, and continued. "well now... wanna go do something?" he asked, his long bony, scarred tail flicking. "it's fairly quiet here now."

The rough nature of Redav's voice was starting to intrigue Vivu. It contrasted with the raspy breaths that served as Vivu's voice. "Is there... any place in parti-kular, Redav?" Vivu asked, trying out the older lion's name. Vivu didn't know anyone who's name began with an R, so in that aspect, this was a new experience for him. The buzzard lion was beginning to ease up to the older feline, trailing his scars all the way up to his face.

Vivu let out a drawn out hum, pondering his options. Eventually, he gave Redav a nod. "A grove?" he asked to himself, his accent thickening due to his uncertainty. The lanky cub couldn't help but appreciate that Redav didn't make fun the way he spoke. However, one thing was still bothering him...

"You know I am 'The Griffon of the Desert', yes?" he began, "Why do you res-pond the way you do?" the question of the year for Vivu. Surely he knew of the Griffon of the Desert, the monster of the Sahara that attacked unsuspecting travelers. The demon that devoured all that crossed him. The buzzard lion then wondered if his absence had been reported through the vulture network. Knowing his venue, probably not. The more starving vengeful animals searching for a mirage in the desert, the more food there would be for them.

"of course i know who you are" he smirked. "but.. if you were going to attack me, you would have done so already, now wouldn't you?" he chuckled dryly. "besides, what would you get by attacking a bag of bones as myself hm?" he asked rhetorically. he liked this kid. reminded him a little of himself when he was younger.

Vivu glanced towards the sky for a moment, taking in the comment. So it was as obvious as he thought. The cub couldn't find fault in Redav's logic, so he gave it a pass. This wasn't nearly as bad as Vivu had made it out to be in his mind. He was expecting rejection, judgmental stares, and other unwelcoming consequences. "Well then, shall we go?" he asked his new comrade.
