Jasiri had gone off to hunt anyways. The rest of the outlanders would just continue to argue, if he guessed right. That's what they always did, after all. Argue, claw each other, and then slink off until they felt like picking another fight. Still, though...there was something about the pride that the lion couldn't help but admire. While they fought some of the time, the rest was different. There was a bond between all of the pride's members, a common sense of survival they all shared.

Things weren't easy in this land, that was for sure. No one could survive here on their own, so they had to depend on each other, at some level. To live, they had to work together. To live together. To get along with each other, whether or not that included a fight every few hours. The pride's bond was stronger than anything you'd find elsewhere, that was for sure...

The lion blinked, then shook his blonde mane to free his thoughts. He'd been so caught up in loyalties and friendships that he'd missed a few gazelles walk by his hiding spot. He growled at himself, cursing his stupidity. How could he do that?! Shetani and the rest of them were depending on him for their next meal! He couldn't let her down. No.

He'd already been at this for at least an hour, and had only managed to catch a small baby that had wandered from the herd. Even then, he'd been chased off by a large swarm of vultures and a few cheeky jackals. By now, there was probably nothing left..

Jasiri glanced around to see if anyone had joined him on his hunt. That, or if anyone had seen him miss his opportunity.

Blackmane was behind Jasiri. he was rather tall, though not as tall as redav, He was thin and wiry, his hips easily recognizable, as were his ribs. his coat was a dark, dusky brown, with an ebony mane. His face showed he was obviously old, with slight bags under his eyes and prominent cheekbones. his chin jutted out in a sort of beard.the old males eyes were a bright swirling gold. he padded closer, seeign that the younger pridemate had missed several chances. "well now... daydreaming?" he asked, his voice low, slightly raspy, but not intimidating, merely curious. (imagine jeremy irons) "who might you be? im afraid we have not met yet... though that is not surprising." he commented, shrugging his thin shoulders a bit.

Jasiri's ears swiveled at the sudden voice. While he had already heard another walk up, he hadn't been expecting talking at all. He glanced over his shoulder, his blonde mane, falling down his shoulder. He glared at the lion, a little annoyed. If he'd just kept quiet maybe at least ONE of those animals would have wandered back. But, now that Blackmane had appeared and talked, all of his chances of dinner in this area were gone.

His tail flicked in annoyance as the elder lion approached. He didn't answer his first question, about his daydreaming. Obviously, if Jasiri had been paying attention, then he wouldn't have been 'daydreaming.' So why did the other lion even bother to ask?

The lion had no idea what Blackmane was talking about. Jasiri had been a part of the pride for months, and he claimed they hadn't met? He shot the old geezer a long glare. It figured, he guessed. All old lions lost their marbles anyways.

"Yes, we have." Jasiri grumbled, refusing to let too many words slip out of his mouth. And of course it was surprising! They did live in the same pride after all.

"Hmm.... must not remember." He said, thinking for a moment. "Catching a meal hmmm?" he said, sitting next to Jasiri. "I could help I suppose." He said, not looking at the other lion, his long bony tail flicking slowly.

"Was." He answered curtly to the lion's pointless question. Jasiri just didn't understand WHY the lion was asking him this, especially right after he'd just yelled at him for letting a few potential meals slip by. Was it not obvious enough that he was trying to hunt?

I could help, I suppose.

He looked away from the lion, until he sat down. Quickly, the lion stood up and began to walk in the other direction, not wanting to say anything to the old, and clearly forgetful lion.

"boy oh boy you are nice" blackmane retorted rather snipilly, rolling his golden eyes. he grumbled, and began walking after Jasiri. He began to hum, quietly as he followed Jasiri, limping slightly. "what do you plan on going after?" he asked in a whispered tone, quiet. He may be forgetful, but not stupid.

Shaya watched the two males from afar, her tail twitching to and fro. She was hungry, like she usually was, and was out looking for easy prey. Her search was, as usual, less than fruitful. There was no easy prey in the Outlands.

She stared at the black maned lion and wondered why such an old male was allowed to stay. Surely, with that limp of his, he was more of a burden than an asset. She flicked her tail to the side and stood up from where she'd been crouching, making herself visible to the others. She was a fair distance away, and downwind, but as luck would have it, the wind suddenly changed. She growled under her breath and began to lazily walk over to the two, her cover blown.

Jasiri gave nothing but a slight ear-flick in response to the male. It was so subtle, it could almost be seen as him attempting to flick off a termite or two. One of the few downsides to living here, he thought. Whenever one made its way into his fur, he quickly scratched them out. There was no way he would let his coat become so bug-infested like a few of the lions here.

He let his gaze drift back towards the lands, easily tuning out the rest of the old lion's words. He'd gotten used to that Right now, they happened be to be in area of sparse grass, and little cover. Although he hadn't seen her at first, Jasiri now saw Shaya remove herself from her hiding spot. H stared at her for a moment, wondering just why she'd move. A hot wind burst up, though, ruffling his yellow mane. Ah, so she wasn't just giving up.

He gave a sympathetic shrug in her direction as she drew nearer. He was having just about the same luck as her.

"Hmmmf?" Blackie vocalized, turning to see another. "Helloooo," he said cheerily, but quiet. His tummy rumbled, and he flicked his long bony tail. "Coming to hunt, hmm?" He asked. Yeah, he was kind of senile...but it worked. He chuckled, amused.

Shaya tilted her head away from the old male, as if the very sight of him was repulsive. "Why do you ask? So you can take most of what's caught for yourself?" she said lightly, her tone not quite matching the weight of her words. She flicked her ears and then turned to Jasiri. "I haven't started yet. Hopefully we'll have better luck as a team if...." she inclined her head towards Blackmane. "He doesn't scare everything off."

What Shaya said about Blackmane was most likely right. From what the lion had observed, he wasn't much of a team player. He was old, annoying, and useless to the pride. Jasiri was surprised that Shetani hadn't killed him off yet. He assumed that the queen must not see him as much of a threat and had allowed him to live in her initial takeover.

He glanced over at the lioness in silent agreement. He gave her a little nod, just to let her know that he agreed. Hunting together almost always worked better than solo, especially in this area. One wrong movement and the prey flies the other direction.

"Where to?" He asked, letting his stoic gaze scan the horizon. It seemed like they'd alrady chased off everything in this area.

Blackie sighed, his slightly silly demeanor vanishing like water. "I absolutely adore how you two think me useless" he sighed, rolling his golden eyes. "You know, I'm going to tag along whether you want me to or not. Oh, and for your information Shaya, it's NOT so I can steal a kill" he half growled, annoyed.
"C'mon you two, there's some antelope over there, over that ridge" he said, the wind keeping them hidden. The old male began to pad that way, limping slightly as he did so. He passed the two younger lions, thoroughly annoyed at their assumptions about his usefulness. His long tail swayed behind him as he walked, head down, shoulders shifting under his dark skin.

((Breaking the order to keep this thread alive))
  • "You're not useless." Jasiri said in his character quite voice. When he did speak, it might not be the loudest voice--but something about it commanded a bit of attention. In fact, in might have been the way the lion held himself--tall and straight, and rarely slouching down. If a lion wanted to instantly look lesser, all they had to do was crouch down--like this guy.

"I bet when you die, the vultures will love to pick your bones clean." He said, at first serious but letting a slight smile crack through. Jasiri might be colder sometimes, but even he wouldn't be that mean to an old guy like Blackmane.

But still...as far as hunting went, the lion was fairly useless. He could just tell by looking at him--the way his shoulders were so easily visible underneath his thin coat. It wasn't at all pretty to look at.

He didn't say anything at his other comment, though, about the antelope. For some reason, he didn't believe the old lion. This was the OUTLANDS. There were no antelope here...or, so the young lion thought.
