A long and calm week has passed since the little cub has reached the safety of Nekura Valley. His little body has already started to get back into the shape - the warm light was again present in his gaze, and his fur was no longer dirty and ragged. It was slightly brighter, and even if he was still very skinny, Daimu has got back to health. The only medicine he needed now was time and peace. There were wounds, however, which neither time nor peace could heal.

The sun slowly started to raise over the mountains, still covered in the shadowy mist of the night. The legacy it's left has already faded in the green eyes, now pointing at the horizon, drowning in the red flare of the dawn. "Thank you", he whispered, having felt the whiff of warmth, brought by the first wafts of wind. A short, restless sigh followed. The little tail surrounded his paws, letting him know the night has ended. He was safe from the nightmares, the evil spirits of the darkness... Of the latest past.

Deep in thought, he didn't even notice someone was approaching.

  • Morning. Kashee had always been much more attuned to the rising of the sun, and as a result was always awake before her twin. Every morning, she woke to the soft morning light and dragged herself out to observe the beautiful sunrise. With no huge mountains in sight to block the view, the sun's rays hit almost everything, and the uninterrupted sunrise extended across the red sky.

The cheetah yawned a bit, stretching out in the typical cat-stretch before wandering out into the midst of the valley. A sleepy fog entranced her thoughts, leading her to the stream. Maybe, if she took a good drink of water, the coldness of it would wake her up.

In her daze, she almost ran into the small cub in front of her. "Oh! So sorry!" She quickly apologized, jumping to the side and out of the way.

"So you must be the cub everyone's been talking about." She said softly, noticing that it was, in fact, a lion cub. That was a bit of a disappointment to her. Next time, any cub that wandered into the valley should be a cheetah cub. There were far too many lions, or partial lions, living here for her own comfort.

By the time the sun was starting to rise Sioux was already up, out of her den. It was the only time it seemed that she could get out and go gather things for her supplies. The leopardess was checking several plants that lead her to a nearby stream. The very things that the old shaman had taught her to look for, by colors, leaves and even the way they smelled were good indicators that they were the right plants that she needed. Her ears perked as she heard a nearby voice wondering who else could have been up this early.
Her motions however did not show any fear, mostly curiousity at this point. As her eyes took a closer look, adjusting to the fog that was settling in she could spot two other creatures. One of which she spotted as the young cub. She was relieved to see that he was doing better now, much better than the days earlier when he was first coming to the desert. Though she could hardly talk to the young cub, not that it had been easy her entire life, being a mute it was different. There were other ways of communication. She also noticed that the young cub was with an adult that she had seen a few times before, it was Kashee. At this point she assumed that the two were starting to make friends or getting to know each other. The young cub is doing better every day. I am relieved for that, if I had not come in time I wouldn't get there in time. She thought to herself.

Daimu hasn't spent this week entirely on returning to health, weight and fitness. He has always been very curious, his eyes - smart. The cub, even so young as that one knew something was terribly wrong. Never before has he felt that lonely, as he was here, in the Nekura Valley. Nobody kept him company, except of Soto, who was nowhere to be seen. He had literally noone to play with. Maybe that's why he was so reserved and cautious, when he glanced at the young cheetahess, smiling back at her for a short moment. "That's okay." He replied, as politely as he could. Daimu's got used to the sight of a cheetah, but, as it seems, it didn't work both ways. He didn't feel home in the Nekura, as if the Valley itself wanted him out. Ready to jump out of Kashee's way, he drew himself up, with a smile no longer on his face. The cub looked embarassed, as if he's done something wrong, and the cheetah was here to punish him. Even his ears shrinked back in shame. "Yeah... I guess so..." This time his reply was all void of self confidence.
He didn't notice the familiar face of Sioux, his saviour. Everyone here, in the Nekura Valley seemed so strange he didn't even know who to turn to. He was alone in the daylight. He was alone in the darkness of the night.

  • Kashee stared down at the cub, watching as he shrank away from her. The cheetah was instantly hit with a wave of guiltiness. Had she come off as too mean? Had her thoughts somehow manifested in her few words? This cub...it was like he read her mind and knew exactly what she was feeling.
"So, how are you doing now?" She tried, speaking almost as soft as the cub. She didn't want to startle him any more than he already was. Maybe matching the tone of the cub's voice would help?

"I've hardly seen you all week. Did Sioux finally let you out of her den?" She asked, sitting down beside the cub. Her eyes glanced around the softly lit valley, and finally fell upon the spotted form of Sioux. She quickly turned back to Daimu, though, as she didn't want him to run off and go back to the shaman just yet.

Sioux had heard the two as they tried to bring on a conversation with the younger cub. She also felt a bit bad for him seeing that he was not exactly welcomed in the group. Though her thoughts were brought back to her own work as she found a few of her plants that she needed. She carefully held them from the stem with her paw then carefully picked it up with her teeth. She had already formed a small pile of plants. Seeing that she was almost done with the gathering. She came back and dropped it back down to where the other plants she had gathered were.
But her thoughts once again went back to the younger cub and Kashee, wondering if there is anymore that she could do for him besides helping him recover from the starvation in the desert. 'Maybe time is only the thing that you need.' She thought to herself as she looked back at the others. Sometimes it's the answer to some cures.

Daimu was a very observant cub - he could guess and figure out a lot after the way the pride treated him. He has seen enough to understand, Nekurans tolerated him more, rather than wanted him here. It had nothing to do with Kashee's behaviour. Daimu was under pressure of his reputation. What has he done wrong? Why everyone seem to avoid contact with him, or just stare at him with contempt? He glanced at her, still looking very shy. "I'm fine..." It was more than clear he's lied about the state he was in. Not that he was dishonest, he just feared to say anything other than that. He was still too weak to leave Nekura Valley anyway. "She never forced me to stay, at least after two days... Now I'm just sitting here, under this tree."
The sad fact was, he has indeed spent all those hours here, alone. He was either crying, thinking or trying to sleep, aborting that only when he was hungry or thirsty. He didn't look happy at all. He was a lion. A cub. Another mouth to feed. He wasn't welcome here.
It was him feeling guilty.

  • Lions had always been the enemies of the cheetah. Forced to roam the land, one by one being picked off or run off the lands by the sheer power of numbers. The sheer power of the pack forced them to always keep on their toes and always be ready to run.

    But not here.

This was a haven, free of lions wanting to drive them out. It was a place where cheetahs could band together--yet still a few lions managed to creep in. Kashee couldn't help but feel for the lion cub, knowing that even she had problems seeing him the same way she saw a cheetah cub.

"Come on." She said softly, after the cub finished. "Why don't we take a walk?" Running would be preferred, obviously, but walking would also be fine. The cheetah knew that whenever she was feeling down, a solitary walk through the territory helped to clear her emotions.

"What do you say...Daimu?" She asked softly.

However, that wouldn't really work with the little cub - that was another fact more than sure. Daimu has had enough of solitude for ages. His little, crushed heart missed his family and friend so badly, it took him some time to finally wag his head. Cub's ears turned around slowly, but even that gesture didn't make him look happier or more self-confident. He still looked blue... and extremely lonely."Oh... Okay, madame." Daimu agreed politely, yet again unknowingly expressing his loneliness and timidity. He didn't know her name, but he was too shy to ask about it. A walk is still funnier than sitting here, though. Green eyes glanced sadly at the tree, as if he was leaving a good friend, never to come back. Having realised that, he's turned he's gaze like greased lightning, cutting the thought off.

  • "It's Kashee." The cheetah said at first, attempting to brighten her voice a little bit. If she couldn't look happy, then she guessed she should at least sound happy. "There's no need to call anyone madame here." She said with a smile on her muzzle. She wasn't that much older than the cub sitting beside her. They were still young, both of them.

"This way." The young cheetah said after a moment of hesitation. She wasn't used to leading the way, or telling someone where to go, or even to follow her. She was much more used to following her sister, Tashee, around everywhere.

They began to walk, headed away from the stream and away from that tree. She also glanced back at the tree, but even a glance at it filled her heart with sadness. There was too much pain there. It was best if they moved on to brighter days.

The cheetah and lion walked in silence for a moment or two, letting the warmth of the sun graze their pelts. The morning chill was beginning to fade away, and the desert heat was beginning to rise around them. She avoided going too close to the border, but before the cheetah realized it, they were closer to the sands.

"Did you know that I once crossed these dunes, too?" She said, pausing for a moment and glancing over the endless sand. Her front paw lifted up a little bit and she continued to look, farther and farther into the desert.

Daimu, having left much of his sorrow under the tree, started to behave a little bit happier, meeting every single rock, bush and dune with his curious gaze. The sight of Sioux brought a whiff of relief, making him smile at her, looking for the herbs. However, when Kashee's mentioned her visit in the sea of sand, his ears have retreated once more. "I've nearly died out there... If it weren't for Soto and Sioux. They saved me." He said calmly, revealing another sad bit of his past. Noone, except of him knew what he was through. These words has made him start to think about the last two weeks of his life. The first one was a true nightmare, while the second hasn't really brought any relief. He was safe, at least for this moment. "I don't want to go there again... But I'll have to, right?" He gazed at her sadly.

After gathering a few more plants she managed to carry them in her mouth. Though she looked back, noticing that Daimu and Kashee had disappeared. She looked around for them knowing that they couldn't have gone far, and then spotted the two ahead, assuming they were either going back to the dens or heading out for a walk. They seemed awefully close to the border though. However she figured that it was best to leave them alone for now, she had given Diamu a lot of attention in the past few weeks as she let him recover from the attacks from the desert. It looked like maybe he was starting to gain a friend.
But as she glanced down at the pile of herbs that she had gathered she realised she still needed a few. Instead of going back she decided to stay nearby the two incase they needed her, though she wouldn't barge in like any other adult would. She came towards the tree where Diamu had just sat underneath smelling the ground quietly to see if she could find the plants that she was looking for. It seemed like the rarest of ones were always the ones with the best source of remindies to use for medicine.

Ooc: Not entirely sure if Sioux should come over to the two, right now she's kind of letting them go on their own.

  • Kashee noticed the slight changes in Daimu's attitude. As they had walked along, he had started to grow more and more playful. He would stop to paw at a leaf, or sniff a bush or two.

And there she'd gone, crushing his slight happiness. THe cheetah felt like kicking herself. WHY did she have to mention his past? Why did she have to bring up her own? SHe should have known that it would only bring back bad memories. This is why she should let her sister do the talking. Tashee was so much better at these things than her.

I've nearly died out there... If it weren't for Soto and Sioux. They saved me.

"They did, didn't they?" Kashee said, turning her head to look down at the cub. She pawed at him gently, in a friendly way. "But look at you now. You're strong again. You're healthy again. And most of all, you're not dead." Life was a precious thing. So many times, it could have been taken away from her. So many times, it could have been taken away from this cub.

I don't want to go there again... But I'll have to, right? The cub squeaked at her, staring up with a heartbreaking gaze.

"No!" She said in a softer voice. "Why would we do that? You're a part of Nekura now, Daimu. We would never send you back out into the desert alone." She said reassuringly. Why would the cub ever think they would do that? Had she really come off as that mean?

However, Daimu was way too stubborn and smart to be convinced by words. His little head has turned away from her a little bit, as if he wanted to run away into the dunes. "I don't think so, Kashee..." He shared his observations through a short sigh. "I see the way they look at me... Same as the hyenas..." He whispered painfully. Maybe he was wrong, but this time he had strong reasons, which were not brought to him by Kashee. The pride itself has furnished him with those. It was the darkness, however, which has brought most of the bad thoughts. Nighmare after nightmare, every single one ended up with him being chased, hurt or killed. This was too much for his little heart to bear.

He has opened it for a short moment, just to get it all out. He wasn't strong enough to fight on and overcome those difficulties. He was only a cub. A child. And already he had to go through pain, death, starvation and loneliness. He has already fought for his life. "Nobody wants me here... And I don't know what I've done wrong... Why everyone hates me? I... I have bad dreams, too... they are worse. I never had those, until I got here... They..." At this point he has lowered his head and sat beside Kashee. His ears retreated back again. "I'm hopeless." A miserable smile lifted his muzzle.

She managed to catch a few things that the two had spoken of as she gathered the rest of her herbs pile. Her own past wasn't entirely interesting but some how she seemed to relate with her mute voice back to Diamu. Even coming up with a simple conversation was hard enough to explain to someone what she wanted them to gain out of it. It was difficult, but it seemed like the Neurkan group was starting to understand simple things that she would often repeat. Though it seemed, she was never able to find a mate, but instead focused on her job as a Shaman. If she were ever to have a cub, she wondered if the same thing were to happen with the cub, something she feared but also knew that she could help the cub over come it.
As she began to head back to the dens, she seemed to come closer in crossing paths with Diamu and Kashee nearby. She let out a muffled growl of acknowledgement, her eyes seemed to be focused on the two with a calm look within them. She seemed to understand the conversation, it was just seeming that it was bad to intrude on them.
