A group of lionesses were gathering at one of the rocks that was well known as a meeting spot before they would gather out to hunt. There, a creme lioness seemed to be pacing back and forth, waiting for the others to gather as well. As she looked back after waiting for a few moments for them to gather, she noticed that they were still missing a few. "We'll give them a few minutes before we head out again. And if they don't come we'll have to tell the king." That's if he'd listen to them. She had noticed that it was constantly more than once that several lionesses were absent on the hunts. Though she had given some of them sympathy if they had a good enough excuse, such as expecting a cub or being ill. Otherwise she had expected the lionesses to be ready for a hunt.
As she waited for the others to arrive she looked back seeing that the sun was beginning to rise. They were still on scheduale if the other lionesses were still coming. As long as the sun hadn't fully risen over the horizon they could still make it. It was all of a matter of timing it perfectly. Time was one key in a hunt, the other good elements invovled teamwork. But that was something that all the lionesses had practiced through out their years. "Just a few more minutes..." She felt herself mutter as she looked back at the sun, feeling the warmth of another savannah morning starting to rise.

  • Dawn.
Safia flipped over and onto her side with a slight huff, yawning briefly and returning her eyes to a closed position. Her ear flicked as she could still hear Enzi beside her, giving off a small, lion-like snore as he slept. After a moment or so, the queen sighed before stretching all four her limbs straight out in front of her. She easily rose to her feet, and exited the den with yet another yawn.

She paused at the entrance of the dens, sitting down to take a quick look at the kingdom--no, her kingdom. Even thinking about that still gave the lioness a bit of a chill. Was this really all half hers? Did she really have three cubs of her own to share it with? A smile parted the queen's lips as she returned to all fours and walked towards the only distinct noise she could pick up--the sounds of other lionesses.

She turned a corner around a few larger rocks, noticing right away that a few lionesses had gathered there. "Good morning." She said, walking up to them and sitting down by Airya's rock. "How is everyone this morning?" She said with a bit of cheer in her voice, looking at first the lionesses and then at Airya. Obviously, something was going on here, and she didn't really want to interrupt...but still. The queen couldn't help but be friendly sometimes. She did care about those in her pride.

Airya had looked back at Safia with hardly any emotion, she seemed to be more focused on the sun as it was rising. Her ears flicked as she heard her queen speak not entirely sure how to respond at first, she was still worried about the other lionesses who still hadn't arrived yet. However, she was debating whether or not to leave without them, they would catch up or not join in the hunt.
"Fine, just waiting for the other lionesses to catch up. We're going on a hunt soon, since the demand for meat has gone up again." Airya said as she spoke to Safia, she was still finding her voice calm. Perhaps it was too early to start a fight or an argument just yet. She was relieved for that, there was no need for a tension within the pride. Otherwise, it may fall a part and split. Then she couldn't believe the words that were coming out of her mouth, but since they were still low on members in the hunt she wondered if the queen was willing to come along. "Well, if you're not that buisy, I was wondering if you wanted to join us. The others must be still sleeping, or have other jobs to do." she offered.

  • Safia caught Airya's eyes in the brief moment the lead huntress glanced over at her. Soon enough, though, the cream lioness broke the gaze quickly and stared over at the sun. The queen's tail flicked to side. That was a bit odd. Usually, when she spoke to someone, they would give the lioness their full attention--only breaking away when he or she felt as if the conversation was done. This lioness, though, seemed a bit...preoccupied.

Safia wasn't quite sure what she was waiting for just yet--wait. There she went, finally speaking again.

"Oh, you're going hunting?" She said, perking up a little bit. "That's great. I bet Koa will be so excited to have a bite or two of whatever you guys bring back." So that might have been a bit of an exaggeration on her part. As far as she knew, Koa hadn't been excited about anything. But these things were never certain. He could surprise her one day, maybe, and finally show an emotion or two other than calmness.

Well, if you're not that buisy, I was wondering if you wanted to join us.

Safia's eyes flicked back to Airya's gaze. The queen stared at her face for a moment in an attempt to figure out if the huntress was serious or not. Surely, she knew that she never went out on hunts anymore? Not since she'd been in Majabali, at least. A few times she'd attempted, but with little luck. That was back when she was new to the pride, though, and barely knew the ins and outs of the lands.

"I..." She tried, stumbling over herself. She wanted to say that she couldn't hunt...but that would sound far too weak. Safia had to choose her words carefully. "I wasn't aware that hunting was a part of my job desciption." She tried, attempting to keep her voice as upbeat as possible.[/color]

"Not entitled?" Airya asked as she spoke back to Safia. She seemed a bit surprised now.
But as she recalled, not once had she seen Safia join a hunt that invovled almost all the other lionesses that could come. That was, Safia had never been around. Even as a cub she was always practicing her hunting techniques to perfect them, then slowly moved up to work with groups. As she thought about it, she never had interest on becoming a queen, and even if she had become a queen she would have partaken in one of the hunts in order to give back to the pride. "But a hunt helps give back to the pride, Safia. If you are successful in one you'll be rewarded with a meal that night, or even several nights." Airya said. Her eyes now were filled with slight confusion as she tried to think about it.
How did one lioness not know how to hunt? Was it that Safia had always been privileged more than she had been? Or was it something else that was way out of her league. She wasn't entirely sure of what the answer was, and doubted that Safia would answer that question infront of the other lionesses. If she really wanted to, she could have made this conversation a bit more private. "Well...how about observing a hunt...to see how we do one?" Airya asked as she tried to get Safia more invovled, but wondered if she could convince her at all.

  • "But I DO give back to my pride." The queen said defensively. Safia placed a paw on her chest, emphasizing herself. Yes, she did give back to her pride. Every single day, in fact. She might not know specifically how to run a pride (since that was more of Enzi's expertise), but she did know how to help. Or, at least she thought so.

"I give back every day." She said, adding on. "And I do everything that I can to help. Hunting just takes up time I could be using for other things." Safia noted, attempting to cover her own back a little bit. Thankfully, there weren't that many lionesses around. The queen wouldn't feel so bad now if she happened to mess up or phrase something strangely in front of them.

Well...how about observing a hunt...to see how we do one?

Airya said, staring down Safia. The queen felt as if the huntress thought she had no idea what hunting was. How they did it. Should she let it slip that she'd been hunting for years in the Pridelands? Or should she just play along, and let Airya pretend to 'teach' her how to hunt? She could pull a surprise, and easily bring down an antelope in front of her. But no. She wasn't a show-off, and she certainly didn't want to come off as dumb in front of the others.

"I've done more than my share of hunting back in the Pridelands. I'm pretty sure I know how these things work."
