The young lion cub was out alone in the forest ,she was used to it by now, however. That didn't change anything as she scrambled through the undergrowth of the jungle. It had grown so high it almost seemed like the sky was impossible to see. However, light could still be filtered down from upward and manage to keep the trees alive. Imani seemed to always be at awe when this happened. It was some sort of strange thing that couldn't be explained.
Besides all the magnificant things that happened in the forest, her favorite was coming to the river's edge. Several lions or animals she had never seen in the forest often came and gathered.
She was close this time, she knew she was by the sound of the rushing current the water normally had. However it wasn't completely that dangerous if you picked a calm area. The river was strange in a way, it would start of calm and nice, then rushing and arrogant like it wanted to pull you in. As she neared the river she looked around a bit causiously and curiously, knowing that she was still young she wasn't exactly the greatest of fighters.
Finally after finding a calm spot within the rapids she bent her head down to get a drink enjoying the cool refreshing taste.
Once she was done drinking, she looked around feeling a bit of wet water against her coat, not minding it all since at these times the forest was still warm. It felt cool against her coat, in fact. "I wonder if anyone else is out here today." She said to herself as she looked over, trying to see if anyone was here.

A young cheetah slicked through a lush green bush, emerging to see nothing more than green again. Vines, trees, more vines, more trees, and the green forest floor. He crouched very low, watching as a baboon slowly made its way towards an undisclosed location. As the baboon continued to move, the cheetah stalked him slowly, moving through the bushes and grass as he went, keeping himself hidden until the very final moment. He would attack soon, and hopefully have a nice fulfilling meal.

The baboon seemed to stop and turn around, as if he knew he was being followed. The cheetah lowered himself into the bushes, motionless, as the monkey eyed his surroundings. As he looked directly towards the cheetah, the feline decided it was better now than never. He launched out of the forest shrubbery, and lashed out at the ape only for him to leap around, jumping on tree trunks and sprinting through the vines and forest floors. The cheetah was beaten here; he couldn't move as swiftly though the terrain, and had to maneuver tactically to not lose his next meal.
As he finally saw a clearing ahead, the monkey turned around and faced him through the shrub, smiling and waving, before hopping out of sight. The cheetah snarled, and with one lashing claw chopped his way through the remaining branches and tangled vines, emerging with a deep growl, in a pose to strike, before catching sight of hi surroundings.

A flowing river that ran through the forest, it's beautiful blue waters reflecting the leafy overtop of the forest. The riverbanks were not empty as the cheetah had both hoped and expected. A few animals existed on the banks, from the humble ape to the many breeds of antelope that roamed Africa. He felt kind of disappointed, and was even more depressed when he spotted two jaguars sitting up in a tree overhead. Looked like this area was claimed.
The cheetah begins to walk down the river, following the flow of the waters. He eventually hits a small area of rapids as the water dips, and looks around. Silent, secluded, lonely. He could get some ripe food out here. The cheetah lies down in the grass, and waits. And waits. And waits. And falls asleep.

The cheetah was suddenly aroused out of his sleep when the sounds of lapping water resounded in his keen ears, causing him to leap out of the grass and dart forward, forgetting about the river a few feet ahead of him. He came to a skid by the side of the river, his nose touching the water gently. He growled, and looked up expecting to see something he could eat. Instead he saw a lion, and a cub at that. His expression turned from a look of violence to a look of regret. He hated dealing with lions, but cubs of any breed were a different matter. He composed himself, sitting up on the bank of the river, and gave the lion a look of suspicion.
"You drink like an aged elephant."

Terror and fear were the first two things that came to mind, she backed away into the forest foliage behind her, it still wasn't enough to hide her bright yellow colors along with her blue eyes. She didn't exactly have the greatest of camoflauge. In fact, she stuck out easily. As she looked back up at the cheetah who stopped in front of her. She stammered unhappy about what he had said to her.
"Well excuse me. You were the one who almost gave me a heart attack!" She replied back, now instead of fear she placed her paws firmly on the ground as if she were ready to stand her ground. She was still young, and this cheetah still towered over her like she was a small piece of prey.
That fear Imani once had was now replaced with annoyance towards the cheetah. He had gotten up out of no where, scared her to death. Only to tell her that she was a loud drinker? She could only think of one word to describe this, simply unbelieveable.
"And I thought cheetah's were the stealthy ones of the felines. That wasn't exactly what I call stealthy. I could have heard you all the way back at the desert." She added, wondering if the first statement she made wasn't good enough for him in combacks.

The cheetah frowned. He did not respond well to insults, and out of either poor luck or simple stupidity, this cub had made that mistake. He watched the little animal try to level herself up, placing her paws forward to seem a little more than she was. He would have loved too simply swat the cub away into the rapids, but he decided against it, realizing it was probably not the kindest way to treat such a young cub.
"If I were you, I'd have the brains to not insult me. Never threaten a foe that could knock your head off in one clean sweep."
He stood on all fours, and looked down the river. It didn't seem like there was any other way over, and all he could do was generally leap across. He could, quite easily, but he had no real reason too. She had insulted him, not threatened his life. And he knew to never eat Lions, it would end badly for both parties.

The cheetah decided it would be better to stay on his side, and kept a sharp eye on the small lion cub. Was this little feline really trying to level herself up to him? She was trying far too hard, and it made the cheetah scoff with arrogance. He was tempted to threaten the cub, but whatever chance there was of her running off to her parents seemed quite high.
The cheetah went silent for a second, trying to read the expressions on her delicate face, before eventually looking up at the treetops and speaking again. "What is your name, cub?" He wasn't really interested, but it would break the already shattered ice. He remembered how awkward it was to be a cub, and understood how weird it was to speak with larger creatures in the land. Of course, he did it without having some form of assumed protection nearby.

"My name?" Imani almost seemed almost confused at this point. First he wanted to attack him, then now he seemed almost calm and causious around her. Maybe he understood her position, but he was right. The wisdom he gave was a sure thing, he was much larger than she. Thus he would have had an easier attempt of harming her. Her stubborn side, however refused to disappear, incase he decided to try something else.
"It's Imani." She said simply and her blue eyes never looked away from Vinning. She felt it almost too hard to bring up the words to apologize. She was sure he had deserved the insult for calling her an elephant when she was drinking earlier. "I'm sorry for the insult, earlier. I don't usually snap at someone like it unless they mean it. But you are right, you could easily take me down." She said and felt her paws shuffle and her gaze fell down to them. She found her markings quiet odd. She was tan like the lions from pride rock. Yet her muzzle, paws, and tail were all black. Making an attempt to hide wasn't easy for her at any point.

The cheetah stared intently at the small cub. It had been far easier than he had first anticipated to discover her name. This small lion, named Imani, was quite interesting to the cheetah. She was clearly scared, and yet had venture out here all on her own. He made the assumption she had either lost her parents or was simply a rebellious little punk. In either case, the cheetah wanted to know more. He yawned, and slid his paws downwards, letting them rest in the waters while he rested his head on the rivers edge. The cheetah thought for a small moment of what to say, but before he was given any form of chance the cub spoke up again, this time knocking the cheetah off his feet, metaphorically.

She apologized. She said sorry for insulting him, something no other animal had ever done. Even stranger still was that of all the animals that had ever insulted him, she was one of few that needn't apologize; he knew she was right in this situation. But perhaps not saying that would keep his demeanor calm. As she finished speaking, the cheetah noticed something. She was shuffling back, as if she was the weaker one in this situation, which she indeed was. The cheetah stayed motionless as she cowered, before sighing loudly and speaking.
"Well, I suppose I can accept your apology. It's always smart to not antagonize bigger animals, trust me." He eyed her over once more, this time noticing her tail, which was a deep shadow black. It was only now, weirdly, that the cheetah noticed her markings. She was definitely a strange one, and he couldn't hold back any more.
"What are you doing out here?" He sounded arrogant and confused. And he was.

“Here?” She asked looking back at Vinning. Surprised that he had not made any attempt to harm him. Sure she was rebellious, but she only knew she gained that side from her mom. But she wasn’t surprised that Vinning had asked that. Other lions had often asked what happened to her mother, or even her father. The second one, even she didn’t have the answer too. She had not had contact with her mother for a long time after they escaped a terrible monster’s clutches. And she wasn’t about to go back there and find out what else they had instore.
So the other option she had in mind was crossing the Sahara desert. And she did exactly that. The humans would never be able to find her there, of course if they did she may have been driven to the point of exhaustion at that point and or almost close to her death. But she found the Tawi just in time, and recovered within the forest. At that point, she was desperate for any place to call home. And seeing that a lot of the lions and other feline like creatures were living there where about her age or just a bit older. She figured this was a better place to live than the one that she had been previously at.
“This is my home. I came to come get a drink. But the river’s side is one of my favorite spots. Because of all the animals that come out here that are normally hidden. And…yeah I’m a wandering cub if you haven’t noticed. I haven’t seen my mom for sometime.” She said finally confessing the truth to someone.

The cheetah was quite amused by the small lions comment. It seemed like this was some kind of sanctuary to her, the only safe place left to her. He hadn't really expected the note about her mother, in fact he was unsure how to react to such a statement. He stared directly into her eyes, and was glad there and then that he had not attacked the cub as he had wanted too. In fact, he felt kind of similar to the cub; they had both, in different senses, lost their parents. Perhaps he could learn to like this cub, if you could even call it that.
He saw it in her eyes that she had found it hard to say such things. He felt lucky and proud knowing she had been able to confess such a deep thing to him. The cheetah licked his lips pointlessly, before standing back up, and looking down at the cub, as if trying to impress or intimidate her. And then, with a push and a grunt, he leapt across the stream, only barely landing on the other side, scraping his back paws on the wet dirt that fell into the river shortly after. He chuckled, and looked back down at the cub, arching his neck down to reach her level. "That must be a hard thing to say out loud. I'm sure it'd hard to live without a parent, I would know. I was abandoned, I think." The cheetah looked down at his paw, and noticed a small scratch. He moved it to his snout and licked it for a second, before speaking to Imani again. "You probably get given advice a lot, but trust me, the best thing to do is try and not care for it. I did, and I'm no different to what I could've been other than lacking another weakness."

He stopped licking, and sat down next to Imani, still keeping his eyes on the small lion cub. "My names Vinnig." He didn't tend to hand out his name to animals, but she had been so open with him he felt it was only right.

"It is sometimes, though I try not to think about it a whole lot." Imani said as she looked up at Vinning, she was a bit more curious now, instead of being shy like earlier. She watched Vinning as she lept. He was impressive, that she had to admit. The female lioness was still small and she had a long way to go when it came to learning how to fight and hunt. Though she had no one to teach her how to properlly hunt, she sort of knew how to hunt small animals from what her mother had taught her. But that was it. She did not know how to take down larger prey like a zebra or a gazelle.
Imani had spotted the scratch on Vinning's leg, wondering how he had gotten it. Her eyes could not be taken off of it as she watched him as he cleaned it. She had gotten into danger but it never left her into wounds. She always seemed to have gotten out unscathed, or with her life that was.
"It's nice to meet you Vinning....How did you get that wound? If it is a bit much to me, you don't have too if you don't want too."

The cheetah continued to look at his paw, examining the cut as he continued to lick it. The wound itself was no more than an embarrassment, and he didn't exactly want to answer that tedious question, but something about this girl conflicted with him, and he let out a small huff as he lay his paw back down and began to speak. "This is a fresh wound, so not much to say really. I got it a few days ago, hunting for some food. I stumbled across a small antelope, the one with the white chevron between its eyes, ah Kudu I think they're called. Well, at first I thought it'd be a simple pounce-take down meal, but when I charged at the coward its mate showed his ugly head and charged me straight on. I gotta say, for a herbivore those things are pretty brutal. I was lucky to escape worth only this little scratch." Vinnig waved his paw in front of her face for a second, before moving it back to his face and staring at it. "Horn tip right through my skin... Jeez." And then, he proceeded to lick.

Vinnig really did not like wounds. Especially ones inflicted by would-be prey. He felt kind of foolish, but he hoped that telling the story to a child would have a different outcome than the few times he told tales of his wounds to older lions. Vinnig looked at his clean paw, and placed it into the running waters, to clean his fur. The blood had been cleaned away, but the saliva was still coating his paw. He looked over to the small cub, and decided it was better now than ever to ask her something that'd been in his mind. "Your markings. They're something I've never seen on any other lion. Are they genetic or your own special little trait?" Vinnig was actually quite interested in the markings, but his voice was so monotone one would think he was simply trying to spark a conversation.
