Go to the end if you want a quick, sappy confession. Otherwise, enjoy the long version. ~~~ Story time: After the Thanksgiving break, school became a living nightmare in which there was no return until winter break, but weeks away. So, with that in mind, I bared each day of school. That was, until one fateful day, I decided the fact made me invincible. With winter break at my side, anything was possible. Even basketball. Picture this - small, feisty redhead against peers nearly two heads higher than she. Her skill also greatly handicapped her. But she had winter break. So, begin unavoidable disaster. I was usually a great defensive man in sports like soccer or floor hockey, where the object of desire was considerably closer to the ground. Blindly, I thought I would be a great defensive man in basketball. You see? No logic. Consequently, I began my descent into pure, sports instinct. I was a mere pawn, shifting left and right, swatting at the ball when it came over my head. I thought I was good. Then, the best player of the opposing team had the ball, right in front of me. I rushed in flung madly into the air beside him and smashed my small hands into his cinderblock ones. I had disrupted the flight of the ball, still it landed into the possession of his teammate, but something was wrong. I landed on my feet and was ready to rush after the ball, that was until I could not feel my index finger. I did not look down, for fear of the worst, but I could examine through feeling. I could not move my finger half of its original range and when I caught a glimpse of it, it was bright, radish red. Even the guy I had hit, shook his hand with minor injury. My head filled with regret. The rest of the game, I played more useless than usual, and managed to injure another person with my now throbbing finger (though, he probably needed a good scratch). I confronted my friends with my monstrous appendage, now swollen twice its size, and politely asked to go to the nurse for ice. I sat through the rest of gym, watching the other practice. The next few days, I wore a splint, like a wimp, but it did make the pain ease. It earned sympathetic words, though, which were comforting for my lack of typing and video gaming comfort. I could write, which sucked, no missing school work for me. It was the worst injury: not enough brokenness to get out of work, but enough pain to add to frustration and discomfort. I did get half a day off, though, to make sure my finger, still nearly fully swollen, was not indeed broken. This lead into winter break. I no longer wore the splint, but my finger was swollen, and I still wrote and typed funny. My spirits were broken into the apathy of Christmas and my muse crushed under the Xbox (Skyrim is addicting) that was free thanks to my brother's computer gaming. Now, my knuckle is still (insert curse word) swollen, but I'm now able to type and my guilt finally urged me on. Also, I missed you guys, so I think I'll stick around this time, and not jam my finger again. It was a pretty lame injury. Thanks for reading. Catch you in the chat box. ~~~ TL;DR Version: As I was bear wrestling, I accidentally jammed my finger into its skull, causing many days of pain and misery. It kept me from wrestling, so the bears ate my computer. Now, I fixed it again, and I'll get back to work. Missed you all and I'll whip up some posts here in a bit. KTHXBAI |

You know, I thought you were legit bear wrestling. I thought that was pretty badass. Then I read the post. It sounds less badass. Not that I'm belittling your injury or anything. I know a thing or two about injuring myself in odd ways. Do get well, soon. Injured fingers are never fun. |

I have to agree with Skips - there is nothing enjoyable in having an annoying injury of any sort. As far as I can tell, everyone knows that bit and can relate, so I'm more than sure we will all wish your finger a speedy recovery. :) Do get well soon! PS. I loved the bear wrestling bit. :D Pretty convincing! |

Ahaha. I loved the long version. I know how you feel, as basketball is not my strong point, so I just...flail sometimes and hope that I get the ball xD It's great to see you back though, Blue! I hope all of the swelling and stuff goes away. |

I did a similar thing once some years ago, only football and I chipped away a piece of bone from my index finger. but I know firsthand how not fun it is to have a big swollen finger, still have to write in class, and wear a splint brace to make sure it heals correctly. only I hope it works out better for you, cause when I would take off the splint to play piano I would forget and out of habit crack my fingers......yeah not a good thing to do with a broke finger. so my finger can still acts up if it's under pressure from excessive writing, and I can do longer crack my knuckles on it due to how it healed. so I hope yours heals correctly and gets fully back to normal soon! I know it's no fun having it like that |
