(Before I do this, holy crud I missed this place. I've been away for so long. It was still V 3 when I was on. Missed you all. Now...to bring back my lioness and her cub. I will eventually have them join a pride, not sure which one yet.)

  • NAME: Baridi (Meaning "cold" in Swahili)
NICKNAME: 'Ridi (She hates this nickname, but responds to it anyway.)
    GENDER: Female
SPECIES: Katanga Lion (Light colored, thick manes, maned lionesses can be found, white lions can be found, slightly larger, heavier builds.)
    RANKING: None
AGE: Adult (Just a smidge past young adult.)

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A little larger than an average lioness, Baridi is nicely weighted and muscled for a rouge, keeping herself fit and surprisingly well fed. More surprising is that she is a white lioness, her snowy pelt sticking out like a sore thumb at times in the long, golden grasses of the savannah. Her fur is long and scruffy, more so on her forehead where a thick ruff of fur hangs down into her face, now long enough to hang past her chin, under this thick fur are two vibrant green eyes, the right one bearing a thick vertical scar running through it. Her back is marred by scratches from her shoulders to her mid-back, long and deep, like another lion had leaped onto her back and tried to hang on, only to slide off. Her hind legs also bear scars around the ankles, as if another lion had made an attempt to grab her and trip her. As for markings, her tail tip is pitch black, and her paws are a soft charcoal color. Brown oval markings are on the backs of her ears, identical to the black ones found on tawny lions. Her nose and tongue are a healthy, deep maroon color. The peculiar ruff of fur hanging from atop her head is actually part of a mane, caused by a larger than normal amount of male hormones in the lioness. While not enough to make her grow a full mane, it is enough to reduce her likelihood of bearing cubs by half.

(I didn't draw this, or take the original image, but I manipulated the photo to show Baridi's scars, markings, eye color, and hair ruff. I wish I knew the original photographer, but I made this image a while ago, and I'm not sure who's it is anymore. My apologies.)

  • PERSONALITY: Not much is directly known about Baridi. She is from a pride far away, near a mountain range near a flood plain. As such, she actually enjoys swimming, from time to time. Her fur is thicker, insulating her better from the cold, and she is bigger, to allow her to leap and climb rocks on the mountain sides. She walks with a distinct limp in her right hind leg, and this impedes her speed a little. However, she is an ambush hunter, and has adapted to grabbing the neck of her prey, and shaking it until it snaps or tears, so her decreased speed is not a problem to her hunting. She has a wary distaste for males, implying she has had her unpleasant run-ins with them, and she has a soft spot for cubs. In particular, she adopted a small tawny cub named Paka, who is Baridi's world. When times get tough, this lioness's mothering instinct will drive her to do anything for that cub, even risk her own life.

RELATIVES: Baridi can trace her family line back to her great grandmother, Hekima. A wise old lioness who passed away years ago, after being the live-in nanny to her birth-pride's cubs, including Baridi herself. Hekima and an unknown, deceased male produced Kiongozi, who mated with Nguvu to produce Mkuki, Bandia, and Motolulu. Mkuki, born sterile, has remained a bachelor, while his sisters carried the pride lineage. Bandia mated to Sayansi to produce Baridi's close cousins, whom she spent her childhood playing with, Tabasamu and Kupungua. Motolulu mated to three separate males. First, Giza, producing Baridi. Later to Nyoka to produce Tamu, now an adolescent. And, most recently, to Wavivu to produce Vidogo, who is still a cub in his own right. Separately, Baridi adopted Paka, a small, unrelated cub, in her travels.

HISTORY: Her birth pride hails from the Northern most part of the Okovango River Delta, it's territory encompassing the rocky outcropping near the mouth of the river delta, and a portion of the nearby flood plains. As previously stated, Hekima was the pride's nanny, so to speak. She raised Baridi and her cousins in the pride's lands while their parents were busy, and kept Giza, a violent rogue, and Baridi's father, from entering the pride's lands and attacking the cubs, including his own daughter. The old lioness saw promise in the young, scruffy cub, inspiring her to one day rule a pride like Baridi's grandmother, Kiongozi. Nguvu also to an interest in the cub, taking her on long walks and teaching her how to fight and swim, while Kiongozi herself taught her to hunt and how to roar, and keep a pride in line. Mkuki took a shine to her, and became her play mate, while Bandia and Sayansi kept to themselves and their cubs, separated from the pride by choice, not wanting to be seen as part of the hierarchy. Motolulu busied herself with hunting for the pride, and hunting down a mate for herself.

Shortly before Tamu's birth, Baridi, a young adult, was out with Hekima, checking in on a few offshoot prides and making sure everyone was alright, when the migrating herds spooked, running for them. In the din, the pair were separated, and Baridi ran among the herbivores, looking for her great-grandmother. She spotted a tiny cub, still covered in spots, in a ditch, and snatched the small lioness up, escaping the pounding hooves by climbing up a nearby outcropping of rock, and sliding into a large crack. The stampede went on for hours; zebra, buffalo, antelope, all racing by in a mass. When the stampede finally slowed to a halt, Baridi dragged her way out of the rock, and found Hekima laying in the dust.

When she arrived back home, Baridi was blamed for the accident. Kiongozi threw her out of the pride, never to return, scarring her face, and Motolulu clung to her daughter, her claws cutting the scars in Baridi's back and on her ankle's into existence. Baridi ran, taking Paka, the cub, with her. And she hasn't stopped running since. With no home to return to, and no power over anything, including her own destiny, the lioness has never been so afraid. She's now passed into being an adult, and Paka is now old enough to be comparable to Simba's age in the beginning of the first movie, and her cub spots have faded to nothing.

  • NAME/ALIAS: Kiradeki or Kira
    ROLEPLAY EXPERIENCE: Nine years!
HOW YOU FOUND US: I had been on Ulaya V. 3
    OTHER CHARRIES: None yet!
OTHER: I like Bananas, Bananas are good. Also, if anyone wants to play Paka, I'd love that. I usually play her myself, but then I don't get to have much mother-daughter interaction, because it's boring RPing with yourself, so....yeah.

Also, Baridi has a theme song now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PtWZTRIdtA...60&feature=plcp

    EXAMPLE ROLEPLAY POST:
    Quote:

The sound of churning hooves beating down on the dried land faded into the distance, taking the snorts and brays with it. In the crack, the tiny cub squirmed noiselessly, and Baridi ran her tongue over the small, tawny beast, trying to comfort her. At last the dust settled, and the large, snow and charcoal colored lioness squeezed her way out, emerald eyes blinking in the sudden change from dark to light. She stumbled a bit, before limping slowly toward a dark form in the dust, the cub clenched in her jaws gently. Her heart stopped of the briefest of seconds as agony registered on her. No....it can't be. Not her....anyone but her. Laying there, unmoving, was Baridi's great grandmother, Hekima. Her pristine whiskers bent and crooked, her pelt ragged, her form altered by the broken bones, and sullied by the spots of blood and gore that marked her painful demise. Baridi's ears drooped, and she sniffled, tears starting to mark her face. The cub squirmed in her jaws, crying out at the gruesome sight, bringing the white lioness back to reality. She couldn't stay any longer. Gathering herself, Baridi began to jauntily limp away as fast as she could, headed for the safety of home. Only, it proved to not be as safe as she had thought.

The towering presence of Kiongozi rolled with anger. The sand colored lioness's body quaking with rage and sadness at the loss of her mother. And for what reason? Because this wet-behind-the-ears lioness got separated, and, rather than looking for the esteemed elder, snatched up a rogue cub and saved herself? A roar tore from her lungs as Kiongozi smacked Baridi in the face, her claws out, tearing a bloody scar over her right eye. The younger lioness recoiled, stepping back, frightened for the first time of her own grandmother. "LEAVE!" Kiongozi bellowed. "Leave, and NEVER return!" A wail escaped the nearby Motolulu, who threw herself onto Baridi's back, digging her claws in to hold on when her daughter spooked and bolted. Just as she slipped off, the older white lioness grabbed her daughter's hind ankles, cutting in scars there too. It didn't take long for Baridi to break free, still clutching the small cub in her jaws, she ran, soon becoming just a white dot on the horizon, her blood marking the way in droplets.

She only stopped when she had been surrounded by unfamiliar land for the past few hours. At last she lay down beside a tiny stream, under a tree, and put the cub down. Baridi's sides heaved, and she shook in fear. She placed the cub down gently and watched for a moment as the little lion shivered. Baridi pulled her into her side, watching until the cub snuggled into her and relaxed. "W....What's your name?" Baridi asked, at last.

The cub's voice was soft, unsure. "I don't have one...I lost my Momma a few days ago,,,,she never came to come get me from the ditch she had me hide in when the big boy lion was chasing us."

Baridi wrinkled her nose, unable to avoid picturing the brutality the cub's mother must have faced with the rogue male, if he was anything like her own father. "Paka, then." She finally chose. "I'll be your Momma now, and I'll always come to get you." She promised, curling around the tiny spotted lion cub. Her cub, now.
