I haven't even seen this series. Please tell me I'm missing out. A friend I know really loves this anime other than Attack on Titan. |

This might not be the best topic to discuss it, but I can recommend the series if you like action-anime. It has some solid action and a decent enough story to keep tracking along. Some arcs are better than others, but overall I've found it an enjoyable ride between the two seasons.

I agree wholeheartedly. Though I actually enjoyed all the arcs, including the much-hated ALO arc. I think I finished the Phantom Bullet arc last night, I'll watch more tonight >_> |

If I were to make recommendation for SAO, I'd tell you to watch the first season and stop halfway through, when SAO arc ends. Unfortunately I don't enjoy any arcs after that; it's just not SAO anymore. As for SAO II episode 20, DAT ENDING! How can Kirito be so awesome in only few seconds, lol. I had read some spoilers about this arc before it started so looking forward to when secrets unfold. So far the flow of the plot is okay, a balanced real life and game life elements. |

I'm confused as to why so many people seem to hate the ALO arc, I thought it was a really good way of fleshing Kirito's character out, as well as teaching him a lesson or two about arrogance. Then again I tend to like things most people don't >.> I enjoyed the Endless Eight arc in Haruhi Suzumiya's second season, for example. |

What made me most disappointed was because I lose the tension of SAO. SAO's pilot episode was one of the best among others; it really set the mood right for life-changing days. The rest of SAO arc didn't really meet the expectation of the pilot. So there was less interest for me when he started ALO for the sake of saving Asuna only. There was an urgency but it was personal business. There were also that incest issue and adult-matter at the end, LOL. But no, those things didn't really matter. Ah, sorry for blurting out about the first season even though this should've been for episode 20. |

See, I liked how he dove right back into it to save Asuna, because it showed just how much he cares about her. With SAO, he had a pretty clear objective. Clear floors, don't die. But when he went into ALO, suddenly he wasn't quite as good. He had a clear objective (save Asuna) but the question was how. How does he get to the tree? How does he get to the top? Hell, how does flying work? XD And yet he was extremely headstrong and arrogant, which resulted in him being put firmly in his place. The incest stuff was quite tasteful, I thought. They'd been apart for a long time, and even before then hadn't exactly been close, and the potential loss of Sugu's "brother", along with her growing up during the event overall (she's 15 in the ALO arc, which would make her 12-13 when the initial SAO incident occurred). She came so close to losing Kazuto that it gave her a system shock into just how much she actually cared about him, and over time that matriculated into something she felt was a romantic love. That's my take on it, at least. Also yeah, Oberon was a creepy son of a bitch >_> |

That in itself is an interesting idea to dive on a new game after getting out of one, yes. At the time I watched ALO I was disappointed that SAO ended so fast and missed its setting. It was what this series was about. Not that the goal of saving Asuna is not a great cause because as you said he loved her to such extent, but my expectation was different. And because the main villain was simply disgusting. ![]() In a sense I enjoyed the Excalibur arc more than ALO. The goal was simple and it was about them as friends playing game together and having fun, and that really hit me as the audience. Nice point of view. It just didn't occur to me for siblings or cousins to feel so strong about one another. |
