Scooby Doo Film Franchise; Scooby Doo, Scooby Doo 2, and a new animated movie too.

The first two live action Scooby Doo movies are kind of a mixed bag, but ultimately they're a pretty big guilty pleasure. They also have SMG, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, Seth Green, and Alicia Silverstone who are all favorites of mine.

But this also happened today and I can't be more excited:

Quote:

Warner Bros. is gassing up the Mystery Machine, as the studio announced it will release a Scooby-Doo animated movie on Sept. 21, 2018.

Based on the beloved Hanna-Barbera franchise, the new Scooby-Doo feature will be a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation under the Warner Animation Group banner.

The film reunites Oscar-nominated producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle (American Hustle), who previously produced WB’s successful live-action features Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Joining them is BAFTA Award-winning producer Allison Abbate (The Iron Giant), who produced the Oscar-nominated features Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie.

Matt Lieberman wrote the film, which will be directed by Tony Cervone, who has history with Shaggy and the gang, having worked on “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.” Renowned animation icon Dan Povenmire (“Phineas and Ferb”) will also bring his creative sensibilities to the production as an executive producer.

The announcement was made jointly today by Warner Bros. executives Greg Silverman, Dan Fellman, Sue Kroll and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg.

In making the announcement, Silverman acknowledged, “Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters. As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in re-introducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”

Said Fellman, “It’s always a treat to see Scooby-Doo on the big screen and to share his larger-than-life adventures with audiences. As anticipation grows throughout production, the movie’s mid-September release date should start the fall season with a burst of fun.”

Added Kroll, “It’s wonderful to be working with this talented and inspired team of filmmakers. We couldn’t ask for better producers than Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Allison Abbate, who have such affection and respect for this property and know the Hanna-Barbera universe so well.”

Kwan Vandenberg further stated, “Scooby-Doo and his friends have the kind of universal appeal that reaches across cultures as well as generations. We expect this new take on the franchise to generate even more fans around the world.”

It's not a new live action adaption, but hoping it's at least better than the constant stream of direct to dvd fodder the animated films have been, and with some who had a part of Mystery Incorporated behind it? It has the makings of something good.

I enjoyed the second rather than the first. I thought the first was a bit rushed to be made.

See I like that the second is more like the cartoon, but I won't deny that I secretly enjoy the first for the meta and proding at the inner text of Scooby Doo it does. (Velma's sexuality, Shaggy being a stoner, all the stuff about Scrappy, etc)

SMG is good in everything.

Even this.

Though she's kind of the worst Daphne in the world when it comes to being...you know Daphne of the show. Lol

Seriously; they are nothing alike. I still loved her in them though. Best casting would HAVE to be Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, though. Perfect casting choice.

In all honesty, these are kinda weak objectively (and I definitely prefer the vastly creepier cartoon ones. Zombie Island anyone?), but I do have a soft spot for them

Well he really is Shaggy at this point, he plays him during the shows now.

What are the chances of the movie cast returning? I wonder if this will be set in the same universe.
I mean its a safe bet that Matthew will be Shaggy.

Well, I don't see why they couldn't since it's animated, but outside of maybe Lillard I can see them casting all new voices.
