Saw the movie Man from UNCLE on the Friday it opened, and was pleasantly surprised. I thought it might be one of those modern "upgrades" where they take an old plot concept and turn it into something more modern, or worse, take a serious show and turn it into a comedy. Neither happened. From the opening credits, Guy Ritche took us straight back to the Cold War 60's and from then on it was a fun ride. Spies, counter spies, and fun plot twists, Even the music, though new in most cases, had that 60's "feel" to it. The acting was superb, all the leads slipped nicely into their roles, and the chemistry was there. And although the plot was serious, there was humor. Not the slapstick, gross or "bathroom" humor, but the kind that grows out of situations. The movie ends with the good guys winning, of course, but it also opens the door for a sequel or two. And pay attention to the end credits. There's some new information along with who played whom. No little "extra scene" at the end, though. We stayed until the bitter end and the house lights came up. Fun movie . 4/5 stars. Would recommend. |

Does it feel at all like a Bond rip-off or anything of that sort? Because it did sort of have that vibe of being a Daniel Craig style Bond in the 60's. |

Not at all. Was more like the original series. Had some more humor in it, too. |
