This is where we can discuss the movies Peter Jackson made of the Middle-earth universe. Books are going to be discussed elsewhere, unless it's in reference to the movie. And Purists beware, I love both.

I've been wanting to rewatch the whole series, but like....so long.

And the Extended Editions are the best way to go. Try doing what I do. One a night. Doesn't have to even be in a row. :D

I love this series. They're worth the length, too.

Yes they are! I got the Extended Editions to solve a mystery I had with Fellowship of the Ring...

I don't think I've ever seen the extended edition of Return of the King.

Namely because theatrical already felt like an extended edition. Lol.

As much as it was filmed in my country - I'm not entirely a fan of either series. I find them too long and I lose concentration easily.

But R Rated. Wow. That 20 extra minutes must be brutal as hell.

I only knew about it originally because comingsoon.net actually mentioned it in the original post.

It literally says it once in the entire paragraph.

Hey! I resemble that remark! :D Seriously, I can understand how it can be hard to follow if you're not familiar with the story. I actually prefer the Extended Editions, because they include more of the story, which in turn makes more sense. I've heard about the R rating, but I'm trying to figure out how they could do it. I know Jackson's horror background, but I'm kind of hoping he doesn't go that route. Maybe it's more brutal than gory. We will see come November, because yes, I plan on getting it to complete my set.

Well I don't think brutal leads to an r rating.

I just can't see how it will get an r rating at all

Also, I am extremely disappointed in The Hobbit Extended.

Like, Fellowship had an extra half hour coming to a 3 hour and 48 minute movie.
The Two Towers: 3 hours and 56 minutes
Return of the King: 4 hours and 23 minutes long.

Huge extensions of what they were before. Regarded as many as the better editions.

Unexpected Journey:
Original: 2 hours and 40 minutes
Extended: 3 hours and one minute

Desolation of Smaug:
Original: 2 hours and 40 minutes
Extended: 3 hours and 6 minutes

Battle of Five Armies:
Original: 2 hours and 20 minutes
Extended: 2 hours and 40 minutes + R rating

Compared to what we got with the original...

I mean I know they took one movie and made it 3 but they just seem so disappointing in comparison. And I have heard from many that the originals are better as they extended don't add much to story.
