This is a real music video, but I think it qualifies. Ministry was nominated for a Grammy for this song, btw.

Lies Lies Lies

Ministry (2006)

Here are three of my favs. The first one isn't political but is a cover of an old (1960s) Doors songs, "Not To Touch The Earth," and operates as a lead-in to the second one which, although not specifically 9/11 related, is definitely political, as is the third. I contacted the guys who made them and this was the reply:

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your kind words. The Doors project was a series of 8 reworks that unfortunately got caught up in their legal battles with each other. So whilst we do have 8 finished songs, ( you can hear Riders at www.nolaaid.com ) it looks like the project will never get released formally.

Regarding WWNBS, ... To be honest, we just put these online to try and get a 60s spirit of rebellion going amongst our generation, we haven`t shown them or anything. I would be interested to hear your ideas. Paul [the DJ] is very laissez faire about everything, as with Nola Aid, which raised a considerable amount of money for Katrina victims, he didn`t do it for publicity, as such he tends to keep a low profile. The response to WWNBS however has been of such a huge magnitude that I feel if the right proposal comes along he will probably let it happen.

Todd Barton is an old friend of mine. We first met when I worked for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 1982. I don't see him very often, so we've never talked about 9/11. But knowing him as I do, it's likely that he knows.

He wrote 'September Eleventh: Trenody' on the first anniversary of the attacks. Just thought I would share it with you. Click the little green play button.

I was just turned on to this guy - I've seen some of his older things, which aren't nearly as good. He seems to be getting better at it. He creates these out of short segments from Japanese TV shows or commercials. Personally, I think he's brilliant.

Ahhh, you liked those?

:D

Here's a couple more ... the first one features Minomonta, a v-e-r-y famous and respected TV host here ... to see his head bobbing around like this is hilarious to me (not sure how well it translates...)

The slo-mo stuff toward the end as he's saying (essentially) "after a sh%t" cracks me up:

And this is the most bizzare ... here he uses a TV dramatization of a ramen chef flipping out from over-work and financial problems ... his screams become the melody (gets going after 2 mins):

Those Japanese cut ups reminded me of this:

Quite an interesting story behind this:

Many believe this phenomenon to be an example of viral marketing by the product's manufacturers, but the "hardcore remix" and subsequent video, both popular on the Internet, were created by JAKAZiD, an amused viewer, rather than a paid employee. JAKAZiD's remix was officially released by the dance music record label Nukleuz as a CD single, 12" record and digital download on January 22, 2007.

What I love about all of these, is that the music is ultimately dictated (/inspired) by the rythm/sound of a few spoken words. In the very first of these the rhythm of "tabete-morau" ... which just means "try it" (food) ... dictates the beat. The stupidity is what's so cool. In the second one, it's the tempo that "irasshai----!" (welcome) is spoken by the host and hostess. I remember from when I was learning music, that Bach's pieces (and all good music from then on) flowered from a single germ (I use the term NOT in the bacteria-sense of the word, but as in a "germ of truth"). The classic Bach piece (such as anything from the Well-Tempered Clavier) starts with the "GERM", stated simply. From then "the Germ" is restated in ever-more complicated and modified ways, sometimes complimented by an "anti-germ". There were even "canons", where the finished melody is pasted back on to the entire piece backwards - and it was a challenge to create a work that could be turned into a cannon where the backwards melody would compliment and harmonize with the main-melody throughout.

But hey, ultimately, music is MATH. :D :D :D And we all (should) know how beautiful math can be.

Back to topic (huh!?? What topic!!!????), any manufacturer should be pleased-as-punch to have their commercial picked out and made into one of these "re-vids" ...

Thankfully, those corporate types wouldn't have a clue how to do it - and even if they paid someone to try, it wouldn't turn out right ... people in this loop can smell a fake/rat a mile away. Unless the chosen rat-fink/video-maker had 'the sense' it would never be watched. That keeps me optimistic actually, that there are people out there who "get it" (even in Japan) - and the ones who don't "get it" never will, and the ones who do will never be fooled by those that don't. I truly believe in that, that's what keeps me going actually ....... then again, I'm an optimist at heart.
